I'm just a girl, standing in front of an app trying to order coffee. #1 placed order at 9:15 week day morning. Was told order would be ready by 9:45. Order not started by 9:55. Order will not be ready before I have to be back at work to open the store I work at at 10:00. Explained situation and was told I would be refunded. Weeks ago and still waiting for refund. #2 Ordered a large mint Mojito and added a tip. All I wanted when I picked up my coffee was a small cup to put my drink in so that the condensation wouldn't run down the side. The barista kept shouting at me that he would re pour my drink . I said not needed I just want a small cup. I paid eight dollars for a cup of coffee I just need a cup since you don't have cardboard sleeves. HE KEPT SHOUTING AT ME. I was polite and couldn't understand his rudeness. #3 Same thing happened again with the same barista. HE SHOUTED AT ME! I should have learned my lesson. #4 This morning, placed order at 9:05 am. Told order won't be ready till 9:55. I have to be back at work to open the store at 10:00. Cancelled order. To put this in perspective..... The last time I went to Zuni Cafe, we ordered drinks, appetizers and The Chicken ( you know the one ) Everything was on our table in 45 minutes on a Saturday night. Is it too much to ask that my coffee shouldn't take LONGER than a fine dining meal? I work in customer service, I'm polite and I tip well. I understand things happen but in the last few weeks I've been shouted at or my order needs to be cancelled because you need to order your coffee at least one hour ahead of time. Always a great experience at Philz. I love coming by every so often and treating myself to an ecstatic iced coffee, light cream. Soooo good and made just the way I like it each time. This location is a bit on the smaller size with limited seating. The layout makes it pretty confusing when you first arrive to order - there are several people standing in front of you near the counter but they're just there to pick up, not order. So you end up with a bunch of people asking the same question ("are you in line?") or accidentally cutting in front of one another - a little bit of organized chaos here. read more

I might travel back to San Francisco just to get an iced mint mojito at Philz.... but that'd be ridiculous right?! Haha... might do it anyway or try to recreate this myself. I was super skeptical at first, especially because I DO NOT like mint flavored things and usually refuse to eat them, but when in Rome, do as the Romans do I suppose. BEST SUGGESTION I got on the trip. The shop has an awesome atmosphere, great baristas, and it was efficient to order and pay. Overall really positive experience outside of the coffee being great. Reasonably priced as well for how much, the taste, and quality of the coffee I was getting. I got coffee twice during this trip for myself and friends and it was a definite favorite. Also ordered a buttered croissant and it was tasty-- just not sure if it was worth $3+, but since I wanted the coffee I figured it was a good add. Hope to return to Philz! read more

I know Philz Coffee because it's my sister's favorite coffee shop. So happened, my hubby and I came here while waiting for Yelp event. Both of us are first time. My hubby ordered Mint Mojito which I have no clue what's about the drink. I sip the drink, my first impression was is this coffee because I might worry it will get me awake. It really taste like coffee. Actually, it taste good after I drink it more. The drink might have too much of ice. The coffee shop was clean and the staffs are friendly. A eulogy for Philz Burlingame. Friends, family, children of God, we are gathered here in the cemetery of once great coffee to mourn our belovéd Philz. Many of us had come to love Philz for what it was: clown-coffee. Crazy experiments in flavor that were hit-and-miss. And often miss. Despite killing off delicious roasts like Ether, we stuck with Philz. We found new ways to love their roasts by embracing Ambrosia. And who among us hasn't formulated a portmanteau while mixing blends? Silken Splendor and New Manhattan? A Silken Manhattan. Likewise, Jacob's Harmonic or Philtered Alarm. Good fun, but you feel like a tool ordering like that. Alas, Philz brought back Ether, but it's too late. My last visit to Philz (at Burlingame) will be my last earnest visit to Philz. The coffee was just... not bad... but mediocre. Nothing more than Starbucks with a cool haircut, even if the haircut is dated and reminds you of your high school sweetheart. Also, the server got my order wrong (again) and it took an unreasonable amount of time. Two stars and a rose. Farewell, sweet child. Go softly into that dim light. read more

I don't know how this got to be a 4-star. This is the first time I've been here and it's like a pit stop. It's busy, the line is to the way outside the door, and there's only one barista at the most working behind the counter and one the delicatessen. I'm being generous with two stars, actually. They're cold brew coffee is one of the best around. My coworker told me about this place and when I was in the area I couldn't help and stop by and grab a cup of coffee. I love philz coffee but I will pass on this location and either go to San Mateo or westborough instead. The order app timing is always off also. Always end up waiting way longer. Oh and if they forget something in your order, you have to wait forever to even get that food item because their busy socializing with one another or they decide to fulfill other orders first. Ugh. Not sure how I should review, honesty to me would lead me and my review on a path of dissatisfaction and unpleased with service. However, I would rather leave a neutral review as oppose to some jaded opinions due to my past being mixed intimately with Starbucks. So, here goes.... upon walking into a clean and tidy coffee shop, familiar smells leaving one's trained senses left with the aromatic soothing fragrance of coffee beans and teas. Silly of me to think a coffee shop is capable of just give me to shots of espresso with a dry foam of almond milk. "They don't do that here," was the retort to my innocent inquiry, however he well understanding as he was direct. And politely explained the customs at this coffee shop named, "Philz Coffee." We have coffee and teas and we can top or cool off these options with undreamed milk. My disappointment was plain spoken on my face cause I recognized the facial reaction of someone that feels like they lost a customer. Not to make a trip into their fine establishment for not reason, I decided on a tea. . Yerba Mate with enough almond milk to give a temper warmth to my first sip. Whoa! The mint leaf gives the subtle tea flavor a delicious palette buttery blast feel with a lingering refreshing after taste. Definitely deliciously subtle satisfied newcomer, is I. Great new coffee place in the area. The lines can get long. You wait and when it's your turn, you talk to your barista so they hear exactly what you want. Everytime they have my drink ready, they always ask that I try it before I leave in the event I want something changed. I've had their coffees and teas. The star is the coffee. The mint mojito iced coffees amazing. Smooth. Creamy. Minty. I wonder if I could get it hot. The menu has the coffee split into dark, medium, and light roast and it describes the flavor of each. Sooo good was also smooth and tasty. Had the green tea, chamomile, and fresh chai. The chai had the most flavor. The green tea I enjoyed the most. They also have pastries and snacks. I've noticed that they're sometimes inconsistent with the oat milk/honey ratio for their Honey Haze. Not that they've ever made a particularly bad batch, but the taste is different at times and it's a little strange. But it's a Philz and you still can't really go wrong. read more

Most Philz I've been to are great, but this one has a ridiculously rude employee. Liz is the worst, she is entitled, rude, poor customer service, poor communication. Doesn't greet you, or say "I'll be right with you." Just completely ignores you and carry's on chatting with her co-workers while you're standing there waiting to order. She even glanced over at me at one point with some side eye, just to initiate more casual conversation with her co-workers while I stood there for 5 mins. She was not making coffee, or cleaning. Just leaning on the counter and chatting. This is not the first time she has been rude to me, as I've been to this location a dozen or more times. She always seems to have some sort of attitude. Some people just have dull personalities, but she seems intent on projecting her negative attitude onto the customer. It's a coffee shop, which requires a minimal amount of interaction to begin with. Philz do yourself a favor and get rid of this employee, her energy and attitude is not doing your business any favors. If I could give a half of a star I would. read more

She assured me that if I didnt like it or if I needed something added etc she wld w no hesitation. So E and I both ordered a small Iced Mint Mojito. Told her extra sweet and less minty for me and less sweet and reg mint for him. We we t and paid and about 3 minutes later she called us over and told us to try it. E instantly loved his. I needed some tweaking. Asked her to make it sweeter and less mint. She removed the mint and added whatever to make it sweeter. PERFECT. Thx Tess. Yeah ok I think I just found my new favorite coffee place. Like here I was, happy to throw my money at Starbucks or Peets and call it good coffee. Haha to my old me! Yes I've seen the store when it first opened in Burlingame Ave and I thought, ok another coffee shop. But thanks to a co-worker of mine, I discovered Philz Coffee. My first order was their ever popular Iced Mint Mojito and it was yummy, sweet, fresh, with that minty flavor I love. OMG where have I been all this time? Apparently living under a rock. I've tried most of everything by now and I haven't found a single one I didn't like. I like how they break down the coffee blends and describe the flavor notes. So when I just want a little coffee taste, I'll get a medium blend with chocolate-y note like Philtered Soul or Julie's Ultimate, but when I really want to wake up, I'll get the darker blend like the nutty Jacob's Wonderbar. Or if I just want to have a little sweet pick me up, I'll get one of their featured creations like the Honey Haze or Iced Mint Mojito. Oh and if you order their coffee on DoorDash, they'll have it delivered w/ all the coffee cups nicely packed on a tray (sometimes even by a Dasher on a bike) and not a single drop spilled. I look at my phone and realize pickup time is 7:45 am. I had never heard of Philz Coffee before I came to the Bay Area for a very specialized medical procedure. I happened in on my way to pick up some prep materials for my surgery, and had a Tesora Mocha. Wow! Rich, herby, and wonderful! I went back later in the afternoon for another, and managed to make it back a couple of weeks later before my flight home. I have sat here to do work for many hours at a time on multiple occasions. Of all the places on Burlingame ave, this is one of the best study/work spots. Only complaint is that it's always so cold in there. The workers are very friendly, the iced mocha tesoro is amazing, the bathroom is clean, and the wifi always works. Totally understandable if the structure may not exactly be your thing but you order first with a barista that calls you over and really nicely helps you decide on what you want (a really good variety of strong to mild blends that can usually go hot/cold for about $3-5). The tesora to the mint mojito are my two favorites to go to depending on my mood. There are even some tasty/sweet/savory treats waiting for you as well up front. Let's say you're a Philz veteran. This location keeps the brand going strong with a chill group of baristas ready to make the order you want; the pretty solid prices for the great-tasting coffee varieties and enough room to usually study/chat/read. Perhaps the only major knock which isn't the fault of the restaurant is just the parking in this area. It's a pain no doubt about it but just be patient with street parking or look for one of the bigger parking lots and walk over. read more

I have no idea why I keep reviewing Philz Coffee locations. It's not like these reviews are going to deter others from visiting or remind me which ones to avoid... they're all pretty fantastic. The Burlingame Philz is no exception. It's a little more cramped than some of the other ones, but I appreciate how much seating they created. There's always a clearly-indicated line to order coffee, but the walkway to pay AND find a seat is all the same, so you'll get a little intimate with other patrons. It's a cozy place though, and customer service is fantastic. After all, Philz hires baristas to match their culture. I got my standard small Tesora (Philz way) as well as a bagel. So delicious, fresh, and filling. It was the perfect breakfast to help me through the first few hours of working remotely. I was waiting around Burlingame for my puppy to finish his surgery, so this was my chance to get as much stuff done as possible. Great location, and perfect if you also want to get lunch or do shopping nearby. The only downside is needing to pay for parking and feed the meter every few hours. It's not too expensive though, so just remember to bring coins. read more

The baristas were not engaging and generally looked miserable. My single coffee took 20 min instead of the usual 5-7. And I left wishing I'd gone somewhere else.
