Stopped here for dinner the other week and I'm kind of surprised with all of these raving reviews that the food wasn't better. None of my food was bad, but it was nothing special. It was all extremely bland. The ribs didn't really taste like anything without the sauce. Even my asparagus didn't have any flavor. My experience as it unfolded: Drove through a sketchy (okay, scary) neighborhood to arrive. Worried about my parked car throughout the "meal." Waitress pleasant and efficient. Iceberg wedge with blue cheese really good (spouse liked hers, also). Daughter ate all of her order, mushrooms, some sort of tomato dish and bacon-wrapped filet mignon, complaining only the meat was too rare even for filet. Spouse liked the ribs, found the smothered chicken middling at best. I experienced perhaps the worst NY steak ever served. Ordered it medium, got it all but alive and kicking. Seemingly more gristle than meat, also. The broccoli was right out of the garden. I mean, right out of the garden. Tough and uncooked. Waitress/Mgr took half off my meal tab for my steak (after viewing what waitress termed "evidence," namely the horrible entree). We went to dinner last night from out of town... Rube River wasn't what it used to be! First. the coconut shrimp appetizer was well overdone & too brown! Our salads were served with with entre! Waited way too long & ate the bread (decent) while we waited. Did get a cocktail tho. Steak Oscar was decent (5) but cold & only 1 asparagus. . Rib steak came in 3 pieces of steak, not a whole one & was soooo salty it was inedible. The cook dropped the seasoning way too much!! Salad was good, but dressing dumped in center. We have eaten here before (awesome but years ago) & waitress probably new. We noticed other tables being served promptly. It's been so long since we had a GREAT meal out!! Probably had the worst dinner here tonight. I ordered the 12 oz NY steak medium rare. It came out as a 1/2 in thick steak medium well. Of course with a steak that small it's probably hard to not over cook. My husband had the garlic pepper ribeye. I've never seen a ribeye that looked like that. Just ugly and the flavor was not good. The mashed potatoes and gravy were horrid not sure how to describe the taste of the gravy. Last we had the bread pudding, save your money. We were staying at the Peppermill and called for a Saturday night reservation, but they were completely booked for the night. But they were still doing takeout orders, so we did that. Hubby got the filet, oscar style, with the mashed potatoes and gravy, and broccoli. All tasted great, but they did forget to make the filet Oscar style. Bummer. I had the jumbo prawns, jacketed baked potato and a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and the prawns were huge! Also came with bread and butter. I love this place and go here every time I stay at Peppermill (it's right across the street). Another tip, go to Costco in Reno before hand and get the gift cards to save some money. read more

Dollar for dollar this is one of the best steakhouse I've found. While you can pay a lot more at the fancy steakhouses, Ruby River is every bit as good and the prices are very reasonable. We had dinner for 2 (both had 7 oz filet), soft drinks and dessert for a little over $50. The steaks were tender enough to cut with your fork. The sour dough bread was awesome. If you are hungry and want a great steak and don't want to spend a lot come to Ruby River. I'll be back for sure. read more

We have been here 3 times at various times in the year. Each and every time the Food was great, the service was Amazing, and the wait was short. They always bring enough bread, refill drinks, and our food is always delicious. Great value for the price as well. Margaritas great value for the price as well so good! We had the New York Steak, Garlic Sirloin, Ruby sirloin, and ribs. Steak cooked exactly how we like it. Our last server Cesar C. was wonderful. My husband loves the jacket yam, I love the jacket baked potato, my daughter love the garlic mash potatoes as sides. And the Margaritas are to Die For! read more

Two stars is for the people and service only. I've always gotten good service here and the people are very friendly. The food is pretty lacking though. The beef that Ruby River uses is at the very best a low-grade Choice, and more than likely is only Select. Steaks are on the tough side with a lot of gristle. Prime Rib as well is stringy even though it's slow cooked, a sure sign of a less than Choice grade of beef. The jacketed baked potato is an interesting idea. The potatoes are pre-baked and then cooled, and then dipped in a batter. They are more than likely refrigerated so that the coating will stick, and then before serving are deep fried. Problem is that the interior of the potato only cooks to lukewarm before potato will start to burn, so it gets pulled out without being piping hot all the way through. Meh. Again, people are nice but the beef quality is lacking. That's no good for a steakhouse. read more

Dude... I never give 1 star. Honestly.. I'm lucky to be alive. Me and 7 of my friends went in Tuesday and every single one of us have food poisoning. The waitress was freaking amazing but the rest of the experience was awful. First, my food was made wrong. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. I got skirt steak well done. Same with my husband. My friends ordered some kind of surf and turf, I know they were out of king crab so not sure what they ate... the only friend that didn't get sick had some pasta dish with no meat. I didn't eat more than 2 bites so I'm not as sick as everyone else, my one friend has been vomiting profusely since Tuesday, the other two since yesterday, and 3 of us mild vomiting and diarrhea for the last 3 days. I tried to call but got voicemail and I just really am so freaked out by this whole ordeal. The cooking staff needs to be immediately retrained on how to safely handle food. Especially seafood. The waitress was so nice through the whole thing and I feel terrible that she might catch the blame but this was awful. I've had to miss 2 days of work because of this. read more

To begin with, the service was good. The wait staff was cordial and polite. Ordering and time to wait for the food to be brought to the table was adequate. The appetizers and bread were also good, although the "Browning onion" was smaller than usual. The entrees are why the rating is so low. We ordered a ribeye and a prime rib dinner. Both were cooked correctly at medium rare, but the flavor was off and both were extremely tough for being considered prime, tender and flavorful cuts. The ribeye was very peppery or had an abundance of whatever seasoning they applied. The prime rib was way too tough and not flavorful. The food is so good! We had two ribeyes with garlic butter. 12 oz steaks. I would have got the fillet mignon but it was only 7oz. Really good and flavorful. If you want your ribeye medium probably should order medium well. I swear my medium was rare. I really didn't want to buy my fiancée sent me food back because it wasn't fully cooked and I'm not sure it made a difference. Sweet potato loaded was tasty not enough topping for the size of the sweet potato. Stir it up before you dig in. The loaded potato was good but could also use more toppings for the size of the potato. You get two sides with your steak so we also got salad. Wedge salad 10/10 more than enough toppings. Caesar salad was decent. More than enough food we never make it to dessert but one day. Onion soup is not worth ordering wish I hadn't. Service was great, server was very attentive in the beginning but didn't clear our dinner plates. Don't get me started on that bread!!! Freshly baked yummy goodness with soft whipped butter. Went for dinner tonight my wife just got out of hospital after a week in there I wanted to take her somewhere nice anyway everything was going good until the meal our fillets were tasty as well as my potato about the third bite a long hair was in the potato it was gross as I pulled it out of my mouth the bartender could see it so our Waitress came over took plate manager came out said it was a bright red hair my wife has red hair he blamed her the hair I seen was not red he covered my meal but he was very snobby about it I was enjoying our time until he blamed my wife turned and walked away we paid our bill tipped our waitress and left and will never go back we have had several anniversaries and birthdays there. Without slamming Ruby River too hard, I will keep it short and simple. Came here for a date night with the hopes of a good steak and left with a feeling of waisted time and money. Service was good. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Drinks: Strong but with flat soda Food: Peanuts 7 out of 10 are rotten. yuk - My date got filet mignon. One bite and immediately we knew that meat shouldn't have that flavor. It tasted un-natural and definitely not worth the $. He was hungry and never a picky eater and he chose not to eat another bite. - I got the halibut with a baked potato and asparagus. The fish was over cooked but edible, so we nibbled on it. The potato was good (hard to mess that up). The asparagus was raw, so I did not eat those and we left half of the fish untouched. The manager and waiter both came by right after the food was delivered and the reality of having to send our food back hadn't yet set in, so when asked if the food was ok, we said yes. After a few minutes, we let the waiter know that the steak was unacceptable. Our waiter took that dinner off the bill and simply apologized for my asparagus being undercooked as they all sat there untouched. I didn't want to ask for anything else, but when a waiter clears the table of food where both plates are mostly untouched, that should be a red flag to perhaps offer additional discount or coupon...something. Cost: 1 beer, 1 cocktail and 1 dinner still cost $60. Sorry folks, but I would consider other steakhouse next time. read more

Very impressed with the food and the service we received from Alex was perfect and amazing. We made reservations here for dinner before heading back home after spending a couple days in Reno and it definitely was the best way to close out our trip. Hubby and I had gift certificates here and needed a date night. With neither of us eating steak, we werent sure what to expect. We decided on appetizers and drinks. If you didnt know already, Im a plant based eater who has a weakness for chicken wings. When I saw chicken wings on the menu, it was an easy choice. We also ordered the browning onion. It was really busy there on a Thursday evening at 7 p.m. We received our wine and gin and tonic just moments before the wings. Our waiter was efficient, he seemed a bit preoccupied, not overly friendly. It worked out for us because I hate being interrupted while I am deep in convo on date night. We received complimentary bread and butter with the wings as well. Wings were perfectly cooked. Browning onion was good, but a regrettable decision. Just not our thing and ended up barely eaten for $8. The wings came with big, thick cut carrots that must have been fresh. They were so yummy. We were so impressed with the wings and carrots we ordered a 2nd round. Ruby River is dimly lit, kinda loud, and busy. I ordered a rib-eye (which came highly recommended), and the wife ordered filet mignon. They both arrived EXACTLY how we ordered them...nice and pink. And both were quite flavorful, again, kudos. A couple of members of the party had b-days...they did a GREAT job of suitably embarrassing said members, post dinner. The bad: the steaks, while flavorful, were tough. I cook a LOT of rib-eyes and filets, and I've never seen them this tough before. the sides. the wife ordered steamed veggies (in a steak joint...seriously?), and thought they were a little limp. I ordered a baked potato (they charge extra for bacon and cheese...this little detail was never mentioned until I saw it on the bill), and it was "ok"...certainly nothing to write home about. I also ordered garlic mashed (hey, I can't help it...I see the word garlic, I order)...and they, in a word, sucked. Gave them to the wife, she took one bite and shoved it away (and she likes garlic almost as much as I do). Just lumpy, with BARELY a hint of garlic. the ugly: the only draft beer choices are miller and bud? For real? Wonderful contrast to the casino dining options that are overpriced and too gaudy looking- Warm, casual but well finished decor is reinforced by the staffs welcoming attitude, and their attention to your dining experience. Our waiter was Aidan, and from the start, it was clear that he wanted to provide us with anything he could do to allow us to fully enjoy our meal out. All the food was delicious, (we both had the prime rib), and one minor issue that came up was quickly discussed and resolved with Sergio, the manager. We have visited Ruby River many times in the past, but it's been awhile that we dined there due to the pandemic. Tonight was very disappointing, and we will not be back anytime soon. My grilled tiger prawns were overcooked (they used to be really good); my nephew's steak was overcooked (he had asked for medium rare). Additionally, I had ordered a full-rack of baby back ribs to take home for my husband. He told me that there was something wrong with the ribs --- they tasted like they were old! Ok. It took us a while to comeback here because of work. My husband and I decided to come eat our favorite ribeye. We got here at 6:50pm, we ordered around 7:05 pm. The food came to our table, first mistake: I ordered my steak medium rare and got it well done. I ask the waitress to change it, he did very politely. However I ended up eating around 7:45pm. or so. By then I lost my appetite and took it to go. my point here is i should have a discount or at least compensated for the chefs mistake .
