Decent açaí bowl, fantastic jams! I worked for a few hours while munching on my bowl. Bananas were wildly overripe and strawberries were translucent, like they were quite old and had been in the cooler for awhile. But the rest of the bowl tasted good. I got the Treehugger without honey because they're typically sweet enough for me with the fruit on top. I believe it was about $8, so on par with other places. I'd go back and give it another whirl, if even just for the chill atmosphere. read more

Amazing find just behind the Mission Beach boardwalk... I've never had an açai bowl before, so very happy that this was my first. I ordered a small tree hugger bowl with granola on the side and it was so smooth, refreshing, and bursting with toppings. I'm glad I didn't order the large because even the small was so dense with the way they pack on the bananas, berries, and sauces. My partner ordered a PB colada smoothie, which contains protein powder presumably, and I was in love with how dense and rich it tasted... definitely can be a meal. Didn't really taste like a pina colada, but very strong PB flavour and had the consistency of cookie dough. The savoury meals were ok too- I ordered the Power Bowl which comes with turkey (processed), egg whites, beans, brown rice, and spinach. First of all I ordered the Himalayan açaí bowl which was pretty darn good but the only sad thing was my bananas didn't taste so fresh they were super over ripe and mushy ): other than that everything else was fresh. Oh and also there like 3 huge chunks of ice, which isn't a bad thing I just thought it was awkward because the açaí was smooth and then out of no where there were huge chunks of frozen ice at the very bottom. The drink was açaí berry smoothie and that one was super duper duper bomb. Not so thick and no too watery! The consistency was perfect and refreshing since it's like 90 degrees out today. Solid açaí bowls!! I got the Hawaiian bowl with no bananas and it was exactly what I was craving. The fruits are very fresh, the honey gives it a nice sweetness, and the granola is my favorite because of the texture difference. I was a little sad that the açaí part was more liquidy than I would have liked, but it was a pretty warm day. The service is very chill and the environment is inviting. Came by for breakfast one morning while visiting San Diego. I went with the Aloha bowl (I think). It was pretty delicious, plenty of fruit but the acai was a little lacking in flavour for me. I like that it's so close to the beach so you can just stroll out and sit by the water to eat your bowl. I want to come back and try some other bowls. Visited during a walk on pacific beach. Very cute little spot with island vibes. I ordered the protein colada smoothie which i recommend. The staff do need to be aware of their own menu. Some items have the same name on both the açaí bowl and smoothie sides of the menu. My sister ordered of of these items and wasn't asked to clarify which item she wanted (bowl or smoothie). 50/50 chance and they made the wrong order. All was well when they refunded for the mix up. Rum Jungle has some of the BEST acai bowls! I highly recommend this place if you're specifically looking for an acai bowl! The people who work here are all super nice and their store has amazing customer service. They're personable and very accommodating. For example, if you don't like something in your bowl, you can always ask to substitute it out and they're always more than happy to. Their acai bowls are delicious and pack so much flavor. They have a huge menu with various flavors, fruit options, and toppings. Himalayan Bowl is my favorite - the Goji berries mixed with honey is soooo delicious! I have also tried their smoothies but I don't recommend as much as their acai bowls. I got their Tree Hugger smoothie and asked for extra ginger, which they were more than happy to add for me. However, they ran out of apple juice or one of their base juice components and asked if they could substitute more banana to the drink, as it would taste very similar. I agreed, never having tried the drink before. Unfortunately, it was way too thick and didn't have a smoothie consistency. It tasted like a banana shake with a slight ginger flavor which was not very good. However, I give them props for trying to make it work. I let them know my concern and they happily brought it back and tried to make it less thick. It helped but it still wasn't to my liking so I don't personally recommend their smoothies. Who knows - their other smoothies can be delicious! Just be wary to substitutions if you like your smoothies a certain way. This is my new favorite açaí bowl place! They have so many options and the food is soooo good! On top of the açaí bowls, they also offer smoothies, wraps, sandwiches, and breakfast bowls. I ordered the aloha açaí bowl, which is served in a pineapple and is topped with mango, pineapple, granola and coconut. I shared it with my husband, but it was so good that I think I'll make him get his own next time. We also shared a chipotle chicken wrap, which was very good and filling. My kids asked for 2 apples and the employees were very kind to accommodate them. I'm really looking forward to going back and trying a different wrap and another açaí bowl. I read a few good reviews and I love acai bowls so I gave this place a try. My boyfriend ordered the pictured salad called "south west chicken salad" it came with eggs instead and an unpleasant smelling mayo dressing. I ordered an acai bowl with no banana and no granola. When I asked if there was banana inside the bowl I was given, he said yes so i politely repeated my need to exclude banana and asked to have a bowl with no banana, as I'm allergic. The owner charged us again for it. When my boyfriend's salad came out he asked why there was cold egg instead of shredded chicken the owner told him it was chicken and to read the menu. The owner then grabbed the plate and squeezed the egg yelling something along the lines of "This is chicken.. Ok its egg whatever I'm not caring what you think" He also told my boyfriend that "he was cheap" by asking for a refund. The owner was one of the rudest a-holes I've ever come across. If you want a basic, runny, acai bowl packed with sugar, give your money to this jerk. If you want to be told "you're cheap" "I don't need your business" and "I don't want to give you money back but I will this time" then this place is perfect. I checked in and received a 10% discount, with that being said I ordered the "PB Acai" it was good but nothing different from what I've had in any other Acai bowls. I had a pretty ridiculous experience here - my sister and I tried to order vegetarian sandwiches. They were out of the first one I ordered, so I asked if they could customise a bagel sandwich for me. They said sure, so I asked for a bagel with mustard, cheddar cheese, and lettuce/tomato/onion. After a very long wait, they gave me a bagel with egg, some other kind of cheese, and nothing else. When I politely let them know the order had been mixed up, they seemed annoyed. Someone came out to tell me that vegetarians often eat eggs and that it's best to check if there is egg on a vegetarian sandwich...which made no sense since I'd done a custom order. Plus, as a vegetarian, I know what's typical. :P If things had ended there, I wouldn't be writing a review - but unfortunately it just got worse. The 3 employees kept conferring in the kitchen and then came out one at a time to ask for clarification on my order, at least 3 additional times. I kept repeating that I only wanted the items I'd stated (and I'd list them again), and it just seemed to baffle and annoy everyone for reasons I cannot imagine. The last time someone came out, she asked me if I wanted ham on the sandwich. It felt like I was in an SNL skit of a bad cafe experience. I finally got the corrected sandwich, but the cheddar I got was a tiny sprinkling of unmelted shredded cheddar...it was definitely not worth the time or money. My sister ordered a mediterranean wrap that came with a single black olive and, inexplicably, black beans not listed on the menu (and she didn't ask for any customization at all). In San Diego especially, there seems to be acai places everywhere and my friend recommended us to come here to Rum Jungle. There are a lot of options here, definitely more than more popular chains such as Nekter. I ordered the beach bowl which came with an acai base, topped with strawberries, mango, and peach. I have never had an acai bowl with peach and this was a nice twist on the traditional acai bowl. INSULTING SERVICE! Before I even paid and finalized my order I just wanted to upgrade my smoothie from a regular to a large and the cashier just scoffed and rolled her eyes at me. I don't need to see under the mask to know how unnecessarily annoyed she felt. Also, my friend and I ordered first when no one else was in the store yet, but ended up waiting at least 20 min for our order while watching 4-5 different groups that came after us get their orders. On top of that we had to remind the cook about our order and didn't get an apology, just a somber "we're working on it." It doesn't end there, once my smoothie was finished they just left it on the counter for at least 5 min with other people's orders and didn't let any customers know whose orders were whose and that they were ready.
