After traveling for 12 hours, I stopped in Savannah and was told by a friend to try Sam Snead's Tavern. I could not get a reservation so I ordered a rib eye dinner to be delivered to my hotel. This was an expected mediocre fair hardly worth the effort. The restaurant is decorated better than the food they serve. I ordered a chicken dish that was clearly previously a frozen patty that the cook didn't even bother to flatten out - just a thick chicken patty served on top of mashed potatoes with a thick mushroom gravy. I ordered a side of sautéed spinach that was way over embellished with garlic. I thought I was eating a dish of garlic with a little spinach thrown in. The worst part was the waiter that began serving us. He had shoulder length hair just hanging down using his ears as barrettes. Disgusting!! My wife and I come here all the time when driving down i-95. Atmosphere is great, and food is better. Great place to eat near the Savannah Airport. We were there about 10 days ago when a loud bunch of Northerners were acting like a couple of goofs loudly in front of the whole bar. Our bartender Felicia couldn't have handled it better. When our pager went off the girl took us to a table that only set 3. We had 7. We told her it wasn't Gonna work that we have 7. The two girls just continued to answer phones & not even acknowledge we were there after that. She could of let us know what was going on. We got the cheap steak dinner; $19. It was seasoned nicely and cooked right and not too much fat on it. Taste was average; juicy, not tough (cooked medium) and relatively easy to cut. The sides we had were decent. The IPA they had on tape was ok, certainly inferior to west coast IPA's but will do. The wine list was fairly extensive with a range of low to higher end products. So I am in Savannah GA and went to this restaurant b/c it was right in front of my hotel. When I walked in it smelled good kinda like Houston's so I was like this should be good. When the cake came out I was a lil confused b/c you only get one and if can in an entrée size plate but only took up not it) even a 1/4 of the plate.. The size of plate you would have thought was gonna be huge, but no bigger than my fist which is small. The Crab cake was decent.. Nothing special.. I have had better but it was lump with a crispy breading which was lil too crispy for me for a Crab cake. Moving on... I was gonna order the flounder for dinner but waiter suggested the special which was a halibut dish. So I went with that instead. It was a good choice I assume since this is my first time there. The halibut came with rice and asparagus and a mushroom sauce. It was tasty. I didn't eat it all b/c I had that Crab cake and also I had a bowl of cream of potato soup which came with my friend's dinner and they didn't want it.. So I ate it.. (I'm greedy sometimes.. Lol) anyway all in all it was decent nothing to rave about.. Oh wait I did also order the mango cheesecake.. The way it was described you'd thought it would have had mango in it but instead it was infused with mango flavor.. I got it b/c it sounded good and Daniel (the waiter), said it was a personal favorite. Well I ate it once I got back to my hotel.. And let me tell you it was NOTHING to rate about.. For all the good comments about the dirty martini, we ordered Bombay Sapphire with blue cheese olives. The olives were great, probably hand stuffed. The martinis however tasted like cold water. Jaime checked with the bartender and brought us back 2 more, but the bartender must have been ticked off as these contained no olives! BAD response! Jaime's suggestions for the sword fish steak and the chicken Marsala were spot on! We enjoyed the chocolate lava cake with ice cream and raspberry immensely. I'd give this experience more stars but it doesn't deserve it. I was in here with my parents last night who come here all the time. I have a feeling it will be the last. The portions have shrunk and food was delivered to our table cold and waaaay too salty. When we brought these complaints up to the manager and told her of the cold food she had the audacity to dispute us. After pulling teeth to get something taken off the bill we found out from the waiter the management had shifted about three months ago. All in all avoid this place if you can. The wait staff was very pleasant but it's unfortunate they have to work under a moronic manager who is clearly out of touch with customers' needs. Apparently the customer is not always right but this manager is. These new owners are obviously trying to pinch pennies and do not care about the diner's experience. Functionally the same chain-restuarnt feel of an Applebees/Outback/Cheddars/Chilis/TGIFFridays I would almost give it a 3.5 stars for the server, Bridgette, who was engaging and perceptive that we were three thirsty dudes on the start of long business week and in need of libations. Our server, a perky Jersey-girl-moved-down-south, was helpful in explaining the menu and accommodating our requests. After the requisite opening cocktail, we were ready to get down to the meat of the matter (pun-intended) so we both ordered ribeye steaks, with house salads to start and loaded baked potatoes to accompany, Part of the reason for the "average" review is that my steak was overcooked (not medium-rare as requested) and it was much fattier than my co-workers. I didn't complain to Bridgette, as it was ok enough to eat and not bother her. Overall, I think this is the best place in the airport hotel area. Overpriced, mediocre food. I actually ate here twice - the first night I was too tired to venture far from my hotel. Had the seafood pasta with shrimp and lobster - it was actually loaded with seafood, but the pasta and sauce were nothing special. The dish didn't come with bread or salad, so I paid extra for a small salad. The next night my flight was cancelled and lo and behold, the only place to accept the airline meal vouchers was Sam Snead's. This time I tried the chicken quesadilla and another side salad. The quesadilla had no flavor at all - just tomatoes chicken and cheese. Very bland. Caesar salad was decent. Again, overpriced, though. If given the choice, I probably wouldn't eat here again, although it is the only place in walking distance of about 4 airport hotels, so it is convenient if you happen to be staying at one and don't have a car. read more

I opted for the Reuben and it was pretty decent. I asked for lean corned beef and got it, although I must say they kind of skimped on the quantity. Met up with a coworker for dinner. We were staying at one of the 4 gajillion hotels across the street. Seriously, is there any other place in America where nobody lives but there are enough hotel rooms for the entire Olympic Games? Anyhoo, we made it to the restaurant (another side story: we drove because there is a large ditch with water separating the plethora of hotels from the main road. I swear it took us an hour to cross the street in the car. What is with this place?). We went in and wanted to sit at the bar area but all of the stools were taken. Most were taken by people, but some were holding the prized Gucci and Fendi purses of some people. We chose one of the booths and had a seat. The waiter came over pretty quickly and brought us menus. I ordered an IPA and it was down my throat lickety split. I also ordered a cobb salad and it was wonderful. Perfect topping to lettuce ratio, which is key to every cobb salad. A few dishes and sandwiches in the 12-20 range. That being said the food, service and atmosphere were excellent and worthy of the price range. I would recommend this place.
