I wish the chocolate flavor was a bit stronger, but a nice hot chocolate if you really like sweet drinks. We're talking $4.75 for an ice coffee (yes, I wasn't paying attention until I ordered). I noticed little difference in taste from mass-market options. Ditto for the overpriced baked goods. It's a classic example of the "if it's more expensive, it must be better" fallacy that Louis Vutton has coasted on for years, hoodwinking almost-elite tryhards into spending thousands on a chessboard quilt pattern. There are better ways to spend all that surplus (ha, ha, right?!) than here, which could be an object lesson in how demand-side recessions happen. This is one of the best cold brews in town. It is up there with Gimme, and super strong, so bring a togo cup to carry the second half home. Unless you like to be buzzing! I also like the fact that when you order to stay, they have these really cute glasses to serve your coffee in. They say seven grams on the side. I know seven grams refers to the measure for 100mg caffeine in a standard double espresso, but it also reminds me of the excellent movie by Almodovar, 21 grams. I also also really like the interior of this place. Very clean, and feng shui of the layout is perfect. The coffee and the fresh vegan chocolate chip cookie are both insanely good. Beware - do NOT buy the smaller packaged cookies. They taste stale and there is a lot of deceptive air in how they are packaged. Two individual packs of 6 tiny cookie sealed in plastic and swollen with air. That air makes the package feel more substantial. But the biggest issue is the small ones do NOT taste good. Total waste of money. I asked an employee and he said if you microwave them they taste like the fresh ones. They do not. the cookies are then warm and still old tasting. My favorite coffee shop & bakery in the area. The staff / service is super friendly and really down to earth. The space is cozy and it is a really nice place to relax, to bring a book or laptop, or even to chill with a friend over coffee and/or baked goods. I discovered this place one day when my phone died in the middle of the cold and needed a charger. The staff took my phone in to charge while I ordered a chocolate almond croissant and a cup of latte. The latte was just right and was decorated with an artwork. The chocolate almond croissant was good. It has a decent amount of chocolate and the croissant was cut in half and spread with almond paste. The arugula, goat cheese and red pepper croissant was amazingly delicious and fresh. With staff who've trained under Éric Kayser, all of their pastries are baked from scratch throughout the day. You won't find almond croissants prepped in some warehouse deep in Flushing, Queens. Instead, expect artisan wonders created some 20 feet away from where you order your flat white or Americano. Of the pastries I've tried, the financier is an early favorite. The crispness on the outside protects an interior that's moist and subtly sweet. The hit of saccharine isn't a product of an overly sugary substance, but a naturally candied raspberry compote. Sweet enough to curb your cravings, but not so much that you experience a rush and accompanying blood sugar crash moments later. Other standouts are their selection of pound cakes, their Finnish style chocolate mokkapalat (brownie), and their savory puff pastry filled with a house made Parmesan + feta blend. I came in right after they opened, so not all of the pastries were out for display yet; however the scent of coffee beans started to spread. They play Crosby, Stills and Nash, George Harrison and Chante Moore They did have one Jack Johnson song which I can forgive them for and some "world sounds" songs. But the volume wasn't too much. The effect was calming. Coffee - they boast all the regular coffee house offerings like cappuccinos and lattes. But they also offer a flat whites. Oh and yes! Finally a place for people who care more about the flavor of a milk alternative, rather than soy's impact on estrogen levels. They should change the name of almond milk to "almond bum milk'. So gross. Anyway, they also have all the regular dairy and soy out for regular coffee. For sweeteners they have truvia stevia which is the one that tastes good instead of metallic, regular sugar and agave. Nibbles - they have amazing pastries. Cheese danish, croissant, cookies and an assortment of 'breads' - zucchini, blueberry, olive oil and pumpkin. You can buy the breads by the slice or loaf. And, unlike places that say they bake their goods fresh daily at 7 Grams the fantastic smell of real baking wafts through the space. Ok, what else do you need to know? I was looking for 2 things when I stumbled upon this place: a refuge from the sun and a good study place. I got both in this cute cafe! I luckily grabbed a table by the wall versus the window and quickly ordered a hot coffee (its never too hot for hot coffee). I am trying to drink my coffee black, so I did not put any sugar/creamer in it. The coffee was pretty good, not too strong and smelled great. I also liked their choice of dishes. To satisfy my sweet tooth, I also got a chocolate chip cookie that the waitress warmed up for me upon my request. It was a decent size cookie and very good. Chewy, melted chocolate with a slight cinnamon taste... would get it again. For the coffee and the cookie, my total was $7, which I guess is about average. Overall, very cute cafe that is quiet enough to do work without headphones. It is in a great area of the city, but that also means it is a little small. The wifi was solid. Seating is a long wooden bench and stools. I would think sitting on a backless stool would be uncomfortable after a long study session, so not sure why they chose this style of seating. But I did appreciate the sufficient lighting, because a lot of cafes have poor lighting making it hard to do work. Location: chelsea has been the hotspot for all those great coffee shop startups. Seven Grams Caffe is one of them. It is on the 7th Ave, and close to Whole foods. Store: the place itself is really nice, spacious(compared other coffee shops in NYC), and clean. They have almost 10 tables for you to stay here for a little bit long. When you stepped into the coffee shop, you will be attracted to all those great bakeries. But sometimes, when it is later in the afternoon, like me who stopped by around 3pm, there's not much choices left. At least, those beautiful croissants are all gone. Coffee: A coffee a day keeps a doctor away. Sorry for twisting all those health campaign ads. I had red eye because I just wanna try their roasted beans. Well, it is okay, not too spicy, too sour, too bitter. It is average though. But the price is insane. 4 dollars for a red eye, OMG, crazy babe.
