My friend got the Croissant Scramble with brisket. The presentation of the croissants when brought to the table blew me away. It was wrapped up in the cutest paper with the ends twisted. The topic of conversation was how good the croissants were. Before we left, we ordered some delicious cookies. The chocolate chips were yummy. So I went the following day and grabbed some pastries! One in particular was the Pecan Bar. The following week, another friend and I stopped in for the Chicken Pesto Omelet. I like that the fire-roasted bell peppers and onions are cooked, if that's the right word. But l have to tell you, the Mexican Hot Chocolate drink brings on the flavor, as does the ice-cold Mocha. As a substitute, they offered me a pre-made cake from their display case and assured me it was chocolate like I originally ordered, just with a chocolate mousse filling. They refunded me $15 to account for the difference, and I felt pressured to accept since I needed something for the dinner that night. Unfortunately, the situation got worse from there. When we cut into the cake, it turned out to be confetti--not chocolate. Then, when we tried to eat it, it was clearly stale, dry, and inedible. No one touched it after the first bites. It completely missed the mark for what was supposed to be a special moment. What's especially frustrating is that I ordered from them last year for the same occasion, and everything went perfectly--that's why I trusted them again. This time, however, it was a complete letdown from start to finish. When I called the next day to request a refund, I asked to speak with a manager but was told that wasn't possible. Instead, I was told I would only be offered a partial refund because I accepted the replacement cake. I understand that mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and quality here was really disappointing--especially for something as important as a birthday celebration.

My go-to is the Haraz Latte. Iced. While this could never be my every day coffee, it is something I really enjoy and treat myself to when I'm able to go to a Haraz. As someone who doesn't proclaim to like cheesecake, their Biscoff cheesecake is the exception. Maybe it's a blessing that one isn't close by and I can only indulge every now and then. If you want a break from your regular coffee, give Haraz a shot. Especially when the summer heat kicks in - the iced coffee + cardamom is pretty great. A taro egg ball thing -- not fans. A gelatinous rice blob inside a bamboo leaf (believe it's called Zongzi) -- also didn't work for us. Finally, the beef puff (which seemed like a safe bet) fell short of expectations. It's my fault -- I ignored that part that said "beef floss." It had a stringy/processed texture that I just didn't like. I just wasn't a fan of the flavors/textures -- but obviously that's subjective. I did enjoy the garlic bread we also thankfully bought -- it was soft and flavorful. If you're not familiar with the foods, I'd recommend making sure you get a few "safe" items like the cream bread or garlic bread. The food court is in Pflugerville just off of Pecan Street to the west of the big curve at Windermere where Pecan Street goes from Southeast to Northeast. There are a ton of amazing restaurants on both sides of Pecan Street near Spring Hill Drive. The food court on the South Side is especially good both for the trucks themselves and for the brick and mortar establishments near them. Look for a faded sign saying Pflugerville Plaza - and a convenience store that is ratty even by convenience store standards. Across the court from Cosi Churreria is a brick and mortar Nigerian restaurant with cardboard signs saying HELP WANTED. They warn you not to come in unless you are willing to wait thirty minutes for your food. The Nigerians are not exactly knocking themselves out to win your business. First appearances would suggest you have come to a terrible place. First appearances are totally wrong. All of the other trucks and establishments off the parking lot look fantastic. The two I have eaten at were either grand slam home runs or multi-base hits. * * * Cosi Churreria was the grand slam home run. Like many other churros places, Cosi Churreria is pink, pink, pink and pink. They have a nice outdoor courtyard with fake grass in front of food truck where you can sit at tables and eat your desserts. There are outdoor toys for the children to play with. The afternoon I was there, an aunt or mother of the baker was sitting outside babysitting the baker's kids while Mama cooked. It was the commuter hour on a weekday and there was no one there. (I suspect the bakery and the food court as a whole get much more action on weekends.) There were all sorts of intriguing churro options on the menu. However, they also do pancakes. I went with pancakes with fresh strawberries and dulce de leche. OH MY GOD ! ! ! ! ! ! ! The pancakes are tiny itsy bitsy pancakes - Orthodox buttermilk pancakes but smaller than even silver dollar pancakes. I have no idea where they get their strawberries - but the strawberries are sensational. It is zero surprise when a churro place has good dulce de leche. That said - their dulce de leche is all star material. I was living in a happy world. They offer a good espresso to go with the baked desserts. Little kids have non-caffeinated drink-treats they can have instead. * * * If I was a little kid, I would wash the dishes every day for a week if Mommy and Daddy would take me here. I am an adult so I can come here any time I want. The desserts are totally totally worth it. I still have to wash the dishes at home.
