I was looking for a place to grab lunch and saw on Yelp Shogun has good lunch specials. Their site advertised 3 rolls for $13.95, score! I ordered the Tampa, Mexican and Shrimp tempura to go. Customer service was great. Speed of service was great. The price was actually a $1 more than what was listed online, but no big deal. Inflation is literally everywhere these days. Might be helpful to update the website though. Anyway, unfortunately once I dug into my lunch I found the sushi to be bland. There was nothing special about the rolls, they all fell short on flavor. The salad also had a neon color to it. Maybe it was because I got the inner bitter heart pieces? I don't know. I'm glad I tried this place, but I won't be visiting again anytime soon. read more

We ordered sushi delivery. I will tell you it arrived very quickly. 10 Minutes before the time given... which was amazing! We ordered Florida roll, Shrimp temp roll, Mount Fuji roll, avocado roll, Chicken temp roll, yaki udon noodles, All of the sushi was very good. The avocado roll had a huge piece of avocado in each roll! The yaki noodles were huge and flavorful. We added chicken to the noodles and they had some veggies in it as well. We received an extra miso soup... not sure if that is normal but it was a nice bonus! They included chopsticks and little cups of soy sauce. We really enjoyed the sushi and so glad I found a place that had a delivery service! read more

A nice lunch experience today with Shogun! I ordered delivery through DoorDash and it was dropped off in a very short amount of time. I ordered the California Roll and Shrimp Tempura roll, which are my go-to rolls for sushi, especially delivery. I was a little disappointed that upon ordering I could not specify no shrimp tail, so I had to man-handle the tempura roll to remove the tail. Everything tasted fresh and wonderful with the perfect proportions in each roll. While I initially thought that I would end up needing more soy sauce, it ended up being the perfect amount! With how close this location is to me, I could definitely see myself ordering from here in the future, especially when I'm running behind on lunch and need something healthy and fast! read more

The Philadelphia roll was very good. The specialty rolls were not. Lonely angel roll is supposed to include fried asparagus but the asparagus was raw. The dancing tuna was not so good, like using cheap tuna or a previously frozen tuna. I do not recommend for dinner in. Better for take out or delivery if you can find an special order. read more

Just like to agree with the rest of Yelper. 4 stars. It is good to have their weekday specials. It is $3.95 a roll. The special is about six pieces per roll. They also has the weekend special for 50% off on the second roll. The week end special are specialty roll. The decorations of the restaurant is contemporary. I would give them a good effort for the bathroom details. During the lunch time, not too many people. We order the spicy tuna, spicy yellow tails, spicy scallops, Tampa roll, eel avocado, and the Boston roll. The food is good. The spicy scallops has the most tasty flavor. Food is fresh. It take 15 minutes for six roll to make. The important is the rice. They do have the right ideal about the rice seasoning. It right amount of rice. Close out is good. read more

The food was good but I'm hesitant to come back due to the awful service I experienced. Came here on a sunday night, there were about two tables seated down in the restaurant. I should've turned around when someone who was waiting for their to go order canceled and said they were leaving and the hostess said "ok bye". My friend and I were seated and the same host/waitress mentioned that they were backed up due to having one chef and it would be at least 30 minutes to receive the food (that was fine and understandable). 10 minutes later, I tried to get her attention to put our order in before more to go orders came in or others ordered and she said that we couldn't order AT ALL for another 30 minutes... I've worked in restaurants and this made absolutely no sense... when you can just order and wait your turn.... After waiting another 10 minutes debating if we should stay or go we got up to pay for our soda and then she said we could order our appetizer if we wanted. Everything was so confusing and complicated so we just stayed but never again. read more

Veggie tempura appetizer: there were a total of six pieces of veg: 2 sweet potato, 2 squash, 2 small broccoli pieces; all soft. Insufficient & tasteless dipping sauce. Nigiri sushi: tuna, yellowtail, salmon, toro tuna. They were fresh & tender. However although the menu listed uni, they had none. To be honest, on the numerous occasions that we have eaten here, they NEVER have uni, despite it always being listed on the board. Mackerel sashimi: 3 small slices. Ok. Shogun Roll: if there was softshell crab in the middle, it was very soft & not crispy at all. Missing the "fresh mango". Rainbow Naruto: bore little resemblance to the description. One of the ingredients was white fish that probably was escolar which I personally hate & would never order because it upsets my stomach. (Both our stomachs were a little upset later that evening.) It was supposed to be tuna, salmon, & yellowtail wrapped in cucumber with avocado & tobiko. There was the aforementioned escolar, salmon, tuna & avocado. That's all. Just a note: escolar IS NOT "white tuna" and should never be described as such on any menu. "White tuna" is albacore tuna. I don't know if the ownership had changed or they were having a bad night, but the food definitely was not up to the standards that we expected from this restaurant. read more

This is our go to spot for sushi in the northdale - carrolwood area. Service here has always been good as everyone we come here were greeted by all the staff. Thanks love it here because they can watch the waterfall in the entrance and because it's low key. The have a cool omakase boat option that always comes with fresh fish and with so much selection. A great option especially with large groups. In the area you can't go wrong. Parking is never an issue since its located in the publix shopping plaza. There's closed on Mondays so just make sure to plan accordingly. read more

Best Sashimi I have had in Tampa, and really glad to find this place. Fish is fresh, firm and very delicious. Served in beautiful plate settings, and with plenty of wasabi and pickled ginger. The Tri-Color Sashimi plate (Maguro, Hamachi, and Sake) was a nice portion, almost too much! Had a serving of Toro also, since my girlfriend had never had it... and I wanted to see what the quality and portion was like. Shogun Sushi is the kind of place where soy sauce flows from olive oil bottles. It is a dark den in the middle of a strip mall that allows you to step inside and escape the perils of everyday life (not to mention the Florida heat). The atmosphere can quickly turn any lunch event, even one with your boss and co-workers, into a romantic experience (insert sexy jaguar growl here). Shogun's menu offers a number of vegan/vegetarian friendly options. We were pleased to see that one of those options is the peanut and avocado roll we have been desperately seeking in Tampa (we know exactly where to get it in Carlisle, Pennsylvania). As I've mentioned previously, the problem with most of the sushi places that offer the peanut and avocado roll in Tampa is that they don't use sweet peanuts. Would Shogun do the same? The restaurant had their sushi out quick, so we didn't have to sit and wonder for long. After bite one I exclaimed loudly to the empty restaurant "Sweet baby peanuts from outer space, Shogun Sushi does it right!". Sweet peanuts baby! That itself was enough for us to start planning our next visit. But the gustatory pleasures that Shogun fulfills didn't stop there. We continued rolling, this time with Shogun's version of a sweet potato roll. This roll was absolutely stunning. The sweet potato's flavor really came through, in large part because it was fresh out of the cooking device (oven? microwave? warming crystal from outer space? who knows...). The sweet potato's unique sweetness meshed well with the fried heat of the tempura and the saltiness of the soy sauce. Even more fabulous was that the sweet potato itself was actually hot when you bit into it. None of that lukewarm stuff that haunts other tempura sweet potato rolls. Shogun's booths are adjustable and can be moved closer or farther depending on your size or where you are in the meal. This was helpful up front as we were able to bring the booth closer so my two year old daughter could serve herself. It was helpful at the back end because we moved the booths farther away after we ordered a second sweet potato roll. We needed just a bit more room for our stomachs to expand. I hope to go back sometime during the week because Shogun runs a number of lunchtime specials that look like they are right up my alley. read more

They practically purée their fish and I'm guessing this batch sat in a fridge uncovered because it was like dust it was so dry. I actually couldn't eat it. Wow. That's bad. If it hadn't been a to go order I definitely would have taken it back but it wasn't worth the hassle. The rice was really gummy too. Not pleasant. Went on a Friday after thanksgiving and the special lunch menu was not in effect. Everything was fine, but nothing special that set it apart from any other sushi restaurant. The decor was soothing except the table we were seated at every time the door opened the sunlight would blast in someone's eyes! What really bothered me was a rainbow roll was ordered with seaweed wrap instead of the usual cucumber. What was brought out looked pathetic and nothing at all resembling the rainbow roll, neither esthetically nor with the amount and variety of fish . And there was an up charge of $2 .... My friend and I are sushi snobs. We love sushi and usually go to our usual places, soho sushi and origami.. However on this sushi date, we were in search for new sushi joint, and after our extensive research via Yelp, we agreed to try Shogun Sushi and that being said Thank you yelp! Shogun Sushi is located in the Northdale/Carrollwood area of Tampa, in a shopping complex with a publix and a Walmart. The parking lot can get cramped but once you find parking and try this place, you won't be disappointed! We were both starving when we go there so we decided to get the sushi pizza for our an app, you could get either spicy tuna or spicy salmon to go on top of the scallion pancake, we decided to go with the salmon....I could now say, I am still craving this. It was amazing. The salmon pieces were a perfect size, the scallion pancake was not greasy. We then ordered the sushi rolls and all were amazing We got the Twin Salmon (Spicy salmon inside topped with salmon, smoked salmon, avocado, ikura and mango sauce) and Shogun (Soft shell crab and fresh mango topped with eel, avocado, and eel plum sauce I ordered the Tiger Roll (Tuna, salmon, yellowtail and avocado wrapped in white marble seaweed). My friend also ordered the sashimi and I could honestly say I never had such fresh sashimi. The pieces were big and just amazing. I am so glad Yelp recommended this place! I have given this place a 5 star review several years ago but now the place is poorly managed. The food is still good but the service is terrible. They are understaffed and it takes forever to get anything. Not sure it's the staffs fault as there is one waitress working the entire restaurant.
