Have come here a number of times and the food has been uniformly good. Last night, came with my partner and we each had an omelette. The server was friendly and efficient and the food came quickly. My spinach, feta and cremini mushroom omelette ($15.99) was really tasty - lots of the three named ingredients. The home fries with it were well prepared and the bagel was good. I probably should have subbed fresh fruit (upcharge) for the potatoes to limit the carbs, but I have no regrets. The sours were good. My partner got the California omelette ($15.99), which looked great and I was told was very good. Came with toast and fresh fruit cup. Yes, at the end of the meal there was nothing left but plates and silverware. It was good. I recommend the diner for food and service. I grew up in New Jersey and have been to many diners. The price point here seems high ($15.99 for an omelette?), but I recall the days of the burger deluxe for just a few bucks. Plus, the extensive menu here and entrees that are not typical for a diner and the high quality probably justifies at least some of the pricing. read more

I love a fun place to eat. You know what? Silver diner is not only fun...the food is on point. We took my aunt there before she returned home on one of her retirement road trips. Breakfast that Sunday was PACKED!! I don't mean regular busy, folks. I mean they musta been giving out free Jesus and Nike Air Jordan's kinda packed. This is a good thing. Busy restaurants don't serve stale food. Let me assure you - Silver Diner earns their frenetic pace. Service was friendly, prompt, and most critically - accurate. That is right. The down side of busy is that orders can become mismanaged. Thankfully, that was never the case for us. Every specialty request was handled correctly. This is impressive for any restaurant, let alone a diner. Food quality was again a standout. Orange juice was fresh, flavorful, and properly chilled. Pancakes were light, fluffy, redolent of yeast, and carrying that delightful crispy umami exterior from butter grilling on the plancha. Bacon and sausage were bursting with salty goodness to cut through rich syrup. All in all - the food was far better than I expected. We will 100% go back to Silver Diner. Such an extensive menu with breakfast to dinner options. I chose from their seasonal menu. The chipotle salmon and shrimp was especially delicious with a savory sauce in the vegetables of corn, tomato, and cabbage. The artichoke was a bit stringy and overcooked. 4 pieces of shrimp and a medium sized salmon piece. Good for value. Milkshake is huge--you can share 1 between 2 people and ask them to split it. Cheese fries were huge and greasy with the extra bacon and cheese, but the fries were still pretty crispy. The burger bun was a bit lacking, and it needs a bit more sauce. Onion rings had a crunchy exterior but the onion itself was a bit mushy. Pretty good food and this location and their bathroom is pretty clean. read more

That's a good place. But diner it is not. Burgers and milkshakes are served here. But every dish is served with a level pizzazz more typical for New American food restaurants. Portions are not the American Diner size. You'll get just enough food. But everything else is Diner: the interior / exterior, the waiters, the service, the price, ... It feels ... strange. I've been a server for 40 years at mostly chef driven and higher end restaurants and I don't enjoy writing reviews unless they're positive. This one isn't that. My Mother has been coming here for years for one thing only, that being, your liver and onions. The first one was dry, the second was so fibrous that it was inedible without my mother putting a pile of it on her salad plate which was still on the table after the entre was redelivered. How your chefs couldn't determine that by your cooks that the quality of the cut wasn't up to standards, is beyond my idea. It's easy to tell this before cooking My entre of fish and chips was super salty, I should have sent it back but being a server for all these years, I frown upon doing that, but wow. Service was, well, not the greatest. I had to ask to have my water glass refilled and emptied plates weren't cleared, even after my mother sent her entre back, two minutes two bites? Cut into it to see if it's to your liking? I asked Hanna what sort of cheese was on top of the scallop special, could be goat or feta, she didn't know. I had to get a bottle of ketchup off another table because ours was empty. That empty ketchup bottle sat on our table for the rest of our meal. What/s worse is that the table I took the ketchup bottle from was never replaced. Abbey was nice and yes, my mother did finish most of her entre and gave us 10% and two desserts. I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of everything she cut away. She's 91 and was hungry and didn't want to take the time for you all to get it right for a third time because she was hungry and would rather eat than wait for another entre and at her age, it's not worth the aggravation. It is what it is. Perhaps I'm biased after being a server for all these years, but I also understand attentive service. Empty water glasses and not being attentive, leaving empty ketchup bottles on a table, not replacing the one I had to get from another table, these things are unacceptable. Yes, we still tipped her 25%. In closing, a server is only as good as their last table. Something I've lived by for 40 years. Cut's of meat that are obviously not servable should be pulled due to quality, sent it back to your vendor for a credit. Cooks should and managers should taste product. Overly salted food is pretty obvious that recipes are not using prescribed recipes. Yes, we'll probably be back because my Mother still loves your liver and onions whether prepared to her liking or not no matter how specific she gets. Meanwhile, I'm still looking for a good dish there. I'm trying to find the sweet spot which Silver Diner shines, the dish, like my mother's, that she keeps coming back for no matter how bad it could be. Your service staff needs work because they're not aware of the obvious, empty water glasses and "why are there two ketchup bottles on the table?". Are they order takers only and if so, why doesn't a server know what type of cheese is served on top of your new scallops? I would have left this on your contact page but my mother has the check number. Maybe good for you to track down a complaint, but bad for a customer to write a realistic review. Unless my Mother finds another place to enjoy liver and onions , we'll be back and I'll continue to search for a menu option with classic sides that I'd might enjoy. Silver Diner follows the formula of New Age standard diners. They still have versions of a blue plate special, specials for early birds, retirees, etc. The food is acceptable and in some cases better than acceptable. Prices are relatively high, compared to diners in Howard County, but probably appropriately priced for the Rockville Pike. Service is good. Nothing exceptional, but not poor. It seems like the waitress we had had been working there for a while, and was a decent server. My daughters think the best thing at the diner are the shakes or malts. While expensive, it does make them happy. We will return for these and for other food. read more

Still one of my favorite diners I've eaten at (and at this location). They're known for their milkshakes (aka my famous chunky monkey), but I've been trying to eat healthier lately and I was happy to see they had a lower calorie section in their menu. Service was average. We went on Easter Day, so it was quite busy, but we did have to wave down our waiter a few times. It was pretty busy with people coming right after church. I am a long time visitor to Silver Diner. I attended the opening week in Rockville (blue plate specials) many years ago. The restaurant generally has been fantastic. Today was a disappointment... I called in "Takeout " and arrived for pickup. SD was not busy at all. I saw an order slapped on the counter far away from the takeout counter...so I waited as many employees walked right by it. Finally after 15 minutes, I asked about my order. An employee finally grabbed a bag and handed it to me... He then followed me outside to make sure this order was mine... This is my first time coming to Silver Diner Rockville Maryland. Let me say, that this experience did not disappoint me at all. I was greeted right away and all the associates were super nice and had the greatest hospitality I've ever seen. The food was so fresh and delicious that my mouth was watering before it came to me. Even the ice tea was perfectly done. The facade of the building was amazing as it had the regular outside look like the other locations but what's cool is that there's a modern building attached to the back of it. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and similar to the other locations. It also gave off a warm feeling when I entered the restaurant. This experience was fantastic and all the associates did a great job so I give Silver Diner Rockville 7/5 stars. The best grade you can get. I will return to Silver Diner here and I recommend coming here for all meals. It's totally worth it. Directions: If you're taking the Metro, take the Red line towards Shady Grove and get off at Twinbrook Station. Exit to the right after fare control and it's a less then 10 minute walk to the restaurant. Just get to Rockville Pike and follow it down the block to the left. I had a wonderful experience at this Silver Diner (I didn't realize that it was a chain in the area). Although I stopped by during the Saturday morning breakfast rush, I (as a single diner) was seated at the counter pretty fast. Just note: if you are dining with a medium-large party (4+ folks), it might take some time to get a table during busy hours. I'm not sure if the restaurant accepts reservations because most of the diners were waiting in a long line for their tables. Although the line was quite long (at least 10 parties), it did move quickly. For my meal, I went with the Lumberjack Breakfast, which included two pancakes, home fries, two meats, and two eggs. I thought this was a great deal for $15. I really did not have any complaints about my food, and the portion size was very generous for the price. In true diner fashion, Silver Diner has an EXTENSIVE menu so I think everyone will find something that they will enjoy. In terms of service, I think that I benefited from sitting at the counter because I did not have make any extreme signals for someone to assist me. While I would not go out of my way to dine here, this place definitely will go on the list for a quick bite if I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Jan 8, 2026. This isn't the Silver Diner I used to enjoy One.. the plates are too small. Two. The chicken sausage tastes dry, no savory flavor. Chicken breakfast patties could be an option. I shared with the waitress I wanted my cheddar cheese blended in with the eggs, which costed an extra $1.49. I received bland yellow looking eggs with the cheese just sitting in the eggs as opposed to blended in.( definitely a difference in color & taste than farm raised eggs bright orange eggs) eggs has no taste. The pancakes are smaller and dry tasting. They used to big & a nice golden brown, edges soft. Not these. . Not pleased. It's probably management & who is being placedvin the kitchen to cook. It's my favorite restaurant. It's not fancy but the menu is varied and flexible for a range of different dietary needs. Service is speedy and portions are large. Came here on a Saturday while visiting family in the area and was were looking for a brunch spot. I had remembered the Silver Diner from my childhood but sadly that Silver Diner is gone and what remains is a confused restaurant that can't decide if it wants to be a diner or a fancy, trendy, health food restaurant. The line moved quickly and the service was good. My wife ordered the Quinoa pancakes that came with Agave nectar but they were just average. My daughter got the pancakes with bacon and eggs and liked them. You can't get any waffle, pancake or french toast alone, they all come with eggs and meat. The syrup is just pancake syrup unless you pay an upcharge for genuine maple syrup. I ordered the acai icelandic parfait with fruit and granola. The food is all fine but gone are the days of simple diner food. Instead you get lots of 'farm fresh' marketing and some celebrity chef that I've never heard of. If agave nectar and exotic brunch is your jam then check it out. We wouldn't go back in the future. read more

This location was somewhat disappointing. On my recent visit I came here with a friend. The restaurant wasn't that busy. After we got our shakes and our orders, that was basically it. Our server really never got back to check on us. I wish he had because our food was mid. Had our server checked on us, maybe it could have been rectified. However, I did see him and other servers on their phones. Like seriously?! I understand maybe checking texts that could be from home, but this was not the case. Both were like scrolling and surfing the web, etc, for about 5 minutes. Management is nearby not saying anything. I mentioned to my server about our meals. He did offer if inwqnr wanted something else to which I declined, because I didn't wanna wait any more. Most restaurants don't let their staff be on the phones like that, but to me , I blame poor mgmt. I had used a gift card here, and now I'm having issues with the balance leftover. At 11pm the place was lively and the staff was moving efficiently to get everyone what they needed. Our server Steven was kind and checked on us consistently.
