Dang the hype is so real! Pizza was delicious and authentic - truly flashed me back to my trip to Naples 15 years ago lol. Through my previous experience at the downtown location of Song'E Napule, their pizza already ranked as my absolute favorite in NYC. I'm so happy to say that my visit to their new UWS location reaffirmed that! They specialize in Neapolitan-style pizzas that have the most heavenly, pillowy crust. I enjoyed both a white sauce (4 Formaggi) and 2 red sauce offerings (Diavola and Bufalina), as well as an amazing zucchini pasta that was perfectly al dente. I think the bread and appetizers we got (calamari and burrata) were good, but nothing special -- or at least they were overshadowed by the fabulous pizza & pasta. This location definitely has more of an elevated vibe in terms of the interior and the service, compared with the chaotic, lively and no-frills atmosphere of the downtown location. Both are great but this was a lot more peaceful and a typical "nice dinner" vibe. It also has more space, and it was not difficult at all to reserve a table for 4 on a Saturday night. Great Food. They were still a little confused about seating us initially . When we arrived, there was a ton of seats (but i guess people had reserved) and they were planning to sit us at the bar. Then they told us someone else was sitting there but then we ended up sitting their anyway. Bar tender served us along with another server. Everyone was friendly. Song E napule was one of my favorite neopolitan pizza spots, but last Saturday visit was disappointing. We ordered a salad as appetizer which arrived few minutes after ordering and was delicious. Then after like 20 minutes we got curious to our pizzas, we saw 3 other tables that came in after us getting their pizza before us, but I was thinking, maybe they did not get appetizers, so fair enough they get their pizza first, we also asked the waiter and he said our pizza oven is small but don't worry it's coming. Another 15 minutes pass (so now 35 minutes have passed) and the table next to us arrived after us and received their appetizers and pizza's already! We get the waiter again, asking for an update and I see him going to the pass where the manager is, and I can see the conversation happening and it really looked like a, a s*@t we forgot firing the main course/pizza, and I see the pizza people moving fast. As I could see all the interactions, and it really looked like they forgot, we finally got our pizza after 50 minutes, and every neopolitan pizza fan knows it takes only like 2 minutes to cook, so something definitely went wrong. When we got the pizza, there was no apology, as we we're eating the server passed by, we were hoping for a check in, but no it was an upsel to see if we wanted more wine. The manager knew what was happening and never touched our table, terrible service, very disappointing. Pizza was delicous, but service was so bad, don't think I will ever return, unless service gets a good improvement. Food 5 star, service tonight 1 star. read more

This Italian restaurant is at the top of my list for some great pastas and pizzas! I've never had Naples style food so I didn't know what to expect, but after one visit, I'm completely hooked and recommend this place to all of my friends. I've been here multiple times now after trying out various pizzas (Diavola is the best) including the pastas! I was totally surprised by the Calzone Classico which was nothing like I've ever had as far as a calzone goes and will definitely keep that on my rotation of foods to have over and over again. For many many years, critics penning positive reviews of Upper West Side restaurants would always preface their positivity by stipulating that the UWS was, generally speaking, a dining wasteland. There was some truth to the observation, but it became less accurate and more lazy with each passing year. And as time went by, the observation also seemed to betray a certain insecurity, as if critics feared losing their street cred if they praised a UWS restaurant without tacking on a condescending disclaimer about the neighborhood's food scene. Anyway, the wasteland pejorative is rarely seen anymore, and it really would be a cringe thing to say nowadays, because the UWS of 2023 is practically overflowing with excellent eats. Some of those eats are available at entirely new, real-deal destinations, such as the Times' newly crowned best restaurant in all of NYC, Tatiana at Lincoln Center. But some of them are also available at offshoots of restaurants that started in other parts of NYC, did well and decided to open their second (or third, or fourth) location in a neighborhood that, according to critics, desperately needed more quality comestibles. During the past 10-15 years, the UWS has welcomed carbon copies of countless respected restaurants, including Legend, Crave Fishbar, Grain House, Han Dynasty, Vin Sur Vingt, Joe's Steam Rice Roll, Orwashers, The Smith, Vanessa's Dumplings, Mimi Cheng's, William Greenberg, La Pecora Bianca, Chama Mama, RedFarm, Jin Ramen, Jing Fong, Motorino, Tacombi, Le Botaniste and Felice. Song'E Napule, which got its start in the West Village, is one of the latest entrants into this category, giving UWSers a new option for Neapolitan pizza (one can never have too many such options, imo). It's been an immediate hit -- don't assume you'll be able to walk in without a wait at prime time -- and the small, boisterous space boasts a super-fun vibe. Decor is quite modern, except for the wood-burning oven, a real beauty covered in colorful ceramic tiles. The libations list is compact and interesting (don't miss the cocktails with Blue Curacao that call to mind the coast of Capri), and it offers refreshingly reasonable prices -- you can get a quality glass of Falanghina for $14, and a stiff drink for a dollar or two more. Pies are properly charred and exceptionally rich, thanks to generous toppings (including a hearty fried eggplant) and a signature swirl of cheese fondue that often adorns the pizzas. Wonderful dining experience! The hostess/manager (Margarita?) was fabulous! Even though we arrived early and they didn't have a table yet available, she did her best to accommodate us and we were seated earlier than expected. The service was attentive efficient and quick. We loved the food: Broccolini was the best we've had. Hubs had Cotto E funghi pizza and LOVED it. Son had the Diavolo pizza and LOVED it. Positives: My calamarata pasta special, the pulled beef with bolognese sauce, was absolutely incredible. The serving size was perfect, as it was extremely filling. If you want a perfect red sauce, this is it folks. The table bread with the house EVOO was also delicious. My wife and I shared a textbook perfect Caesar salad. The staff was very nice and appreciative of our patronage. Ambiance was typical NYC cafe with their decorations. Negatives: For a place where 1/4 of the menu is dedicated to the brick oven pizza, the pizza was pretty lacking. My wife got a vegetable pizza and the crust was slightly undercooked. The vegetables had been roasted beforehand, but their moisture still seeped through, making the pizza crust soggy and gross. Also, although the staff was very friendly, they were pretty inattentive, even though we were the only ones there for awhile (we got there right when they opened). It took forever to order our entrees. Finally, we couldn't drink before our evening began, so we ordered soft drinks, which were served by the can and $6 each. So pasta, a salad, a soggy veggie pizza and two Cokes will set you back $110. read more

First-ever visit was for $15 lunch "specials" - which usually implies a good value. But a $15 fried calamari serving was a stingy portion of calamari with maybe 10 small pieces supplemented by a few broken potato chips and a little bit of greens. Without the complementary bread, my partner would have been left completely hungry. An undercooked lunch-size pizza had to be redone because the ingredients were swimming on top of the bread base and even the second time around it was impossible to keep the sauce and cheese from slipping off the slice. I know Neapolitan pizza is a different animal than traditional NY pizza, but this seemed an awkward facsimile of the real deal. Maybe the pasta or sandwich deals would have made for better choices. The kicker was a 12-ounce can of Diet Coke brought to the table for a shocking five bucks. Yikes! read more

The Pizza Parmagiana was a little more redeeming but was also super soggy. The balance of cheese / sauce / toppings was off. It was overwhelmingly cheese. The caprese was the saddest caprese I've ever had. Flavorless tomatoes (not even salted enough) with a flavorless ball of mozzarella, with little to no balsamic. The broccoli rabe was fine, but that's a side... so it brings up the score by 1 star. For the price, no thank you. I will not be ordering delivery again. Maybe dining in is another story. I'd recommend delivery from Bosino's for anything gourmet and whatever you can get delivered downtown from the staples: Joe's, Grimaldi's, or Rubirosa. Even Patsy's! read more

Excellent service while seated at the bar for dinner since we walked in at 7pm on a Saturday without a reservation. It was very entertaining to watch the efficiency in which the pizzas were being made and baked in the wood burning oven. The lighting was darker and the seating was intimate but casual. Sharing a Caesar Salad with bread on the house and the Cotto E Funghi Pizza between 2 people was perfect for a light dinner since we planned to have gelato for dessert at Amorino Gelato just down the street. The house bread (ciabatta?) had an interesting outer shine (instead of a dusty flour) and had nice holes though-out the bread which helped trap the flavorful olive oil that was served with the bread. The Caesar Salad was perfectly dressed and not too garlicky. The greens were crunchy and the parmesan cheese was flavorful without being salty. The crust on the pizza was the highlight. I thought the prosciutto tasted more like ham than the more cured versions that I'm used to. I would have liked more basil and the red sauce was good but I felt it needed more zing. read more

It's pretty mediocre. It's a pizza restaurant trying to masquerade as an Italian joint. Pizza looks to be good (didn't get one), and should be the only thing you order. The burrata was excellent and a salad from a neighbor looked positive. The non-pizza entrees should be avoided if you have any taste buds. Bland and uninspired. A fried chicken cutlet that has no sauce or pasta under it. A branzino hidden by tomatoes and olives to not let any fish flavor through. A hint of salt to open up the dishes would've been helpful. The staff were okay, about average. My two stars is due to the idea the restaurant perpetuates that they are Italian and not just pizza. Spend your time elsewhere unless you want a slice. read more

I came here for my birthday dinner with my parents and fiancé. The God of Naples really made his presence, with the Maradona mural taking up a wall. Small and colorful, the restaurant had both an elegant and playful mood. For apps, we ordered the burrata and calamari. The burrata was pretty buttery and smooth, with a sweet milky taste. The calamari was delicious except for the potato chips that tasted too bitter and burnt. I wasn't crazy about the sauce either. For dinner, my fiancé ordered the margherita pizza. My parents both got the pasta Nero with clams. I went with the veal Ravi with pappardelle pasta. The entries were all delicious but nothing new to write home. The pizza tasted like any pizza in NY, the Nero pasta was too fishy, and my ragu had more meat than pasta (making it a soupy pasta ). I wasn't crazy about the pizza, but I think they do better with it than their pastas. My friends from Italy love it, which says alot! My favorite spot in the city. I think this is the closest thing to authentic Italian, particularly from Napoli, that you will find in the city. It's incredibly good food. The environment is great, fun, not too loud. The pizzas are great - thin crust, fresh ingredients. Eggplant parm is very good, the sauce is great. All their pasta is fresh. "4 minus" It's possible our expectations were too high, or maybe we were just seduced by their great looking menu. We went for pizza (their claim to fame) but were unable to resist appetizers (insalata di polpo, carpaccio di bresaola) and mains (special gnocchi and branzino all'acqua pazza). Our server was attentive and gracious, in addition to being the genuine article - from Naples. As Italy fans, as well as soccer fans, we enjoyed the decor, although there wasn't much to absorb noise so it did get loud. Our meal was good. Not life-altering or worthy of exclamation points, just good. We lingered over our wine and dessert, it was a Saturday and although the environment was energetic, we didn't feel rushed. $215 for two of us, including tip. I've never struggled so much to write an honest review. On the one hand, the pizza is delicious, thin crust and flavorful. On the other hand, the minute we ordered, we were informed we only have one and a half hours and it put a really negative spin on the rest of our experience. Our friends felt under pressure and kept checking their watch, we felt that we were not welcomed. It really felt off. The appetizers were kind if blah. We shared the burrata, the caprese salad with mozarella, and the tuna salad. They were all kind similar, one note, and very under seasoned, I've asked for salt and balsamic vinegar and by the time it came, we were half way done. The tuna tasted like it was from a can. That's just gross. I like the velvet chairs and some of the art but really didn't have that amazing experience I'd crave and want to come back for. We wanted to try this place for a while and overall, it didn't deliver. Pecora Bianca is a better alternative for this neighborhood. read more

First , the space is very friendly , spacious and with good acoustics (not like many NYC terrible noise makers) The start of the fried (light) calamari is a must , generous dish , done right and I will suggest to dip it in the olive oil . This was 10/10 for me! We got the calamari, the Nerano pasta, Diavola pizza, Pomodori pizza, and tiramisu. Everything was amazing! Our server Antonio was very helpful and had great recommendations. We also all got a spritz and they were perfectly balanced. The bread was delicious too! The tiramisu was also light and not too sweet. The food here is incredible! Our party of 7 dined here on a Monday night, and it was a full house. We were quickly seated and given service. The complimentary bread basket they brought out was so delicious. Our party ordered calamari and meatballs to start. I loved how the calamari came with fried veggies and potatoes, which was a nice complement. The meatballs were juicy, tender and flavorful. For the mains, we ordered a variety of the pizzas and pastas. The dough is so good! It is fluffy and has such a nice chewy texture! The truffle pizza is a must! And the traditional calzone was also a favorite! I've only had the American style calzones, which I find too bready and drenched in sauce. But this Napoli style calzone was much lighter and had a good balance of sauce cheese and other ingredients. They also have an off menu cacio e pepe gnocchi! The gnocchi is stuffed with cheese and they were so soft and pillowy! This is the best gnocchi I have ever had. I highly recommend! We ended the meal with an assortment of desserts. All the desserts were light and not too sweet. The lemon cake is from Napoli, so you must try it. The panna cotta and tiramisu were also so light and delicious.
