I'm sorry I can only give it five stars. Would give more if it was possible. My son and I have an ongoing contest where the best cheesesteak in L.A is. He told me about Sonny's a few weeks ago and I was in that general area yesterday and went and had their Wagyu cheesesteak. It was spectacular. And what made it so great is that they took the peppers and chopped it up with the beef and the cheese in a fantastic sesame bun. Each bite was better than the next, and I was in a sad when I finished it. Clearly so full I couldn't have another bite but each taste was so great. I couldn't get over it. I've had Sonny's pizzas several times and I try to keep an open mind every time but I just can't get behind it. This is a very traditional east coast pizza which is not what I'm used to. It's a crispy thin crust, so if that's your style, you will love this. I do like adding burrata for extra flavor but $5 is a bit expensive. That being said my bf loves it and continues to order it saying it's authentic to the east coast (where he's from), so I know it has a fan base for a lot of people but if you like a healthy amount of sauce, cheese and toppings this may not be the place for you. read more

I've been seeing Sonny's all over my FYP on TikTok, everyone claiming it's the best pizza in L.A. right now, and honestly I think it's worth all the hype it's getting. As soon as you go to their website to place an order, you know you're getting a freshly made pizza. You can do ASAP or a time slot to pick up. My fiancée and I showed up before they opened. And we were able to place an order 10 minutes before 12 p.m. Took about 15-20 minutes for our pie to be ready for pick-up. We went with their pepperoni pizza topped with fresh ricotta. I really wanted to try the pepperoni with jalapeños, but we weren't sure how spicy it would be. So we went with the safe route. I would like to point out, pizza is definitely on the expensive side. $50 is kinda crazy for a pizza, but I will say this... As soon as you open the HUGE pizza box, you forget about the price. BIG pizza, thin crust, crispy all around, sauce and mozzarella melded together to perfection. As soon as you take a bite, the crunch and crispiness is pure heaven. Great texture, crunch all around. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients. The sauce had a very sweet taste to it. Overall, very good. Looked like a NY pizza, tasted like a NY pizza. Which I personally really liked. Ricotta definitely added an extra hint of creaminess to the pizza. It's a must-try. A big plus: NO heartburn. A++ (a lot of the pizzas I've ever had in my lifetime always give me heartburn). When I picked up the pizza, the ambiance felt very vibey, but since it was only pick-up, I can't really say much more. I really hope Sonny's will implement single slices at one point. We ordered for pick up later in the day. Parking was a little difficult even just to pick it up, but emergency lights came in handy. It was an okay pizza, my boyfriend loved the flavor but I felt it was a little lacking. The composition of the layers (dough, cheese, pizza) was great but the pepps and jalapeños didn't have enough of a salty kick. Personally, I live far so the drive and cost isn't worth it to me. However, now that I won't be returning, I'll offer an honest assessment of the pizza and my experience. After leaving my initial review, the restaurant reached out. They asked to see pictures, which I did not include in my initial review in the spirit of being charitable. I've included a photo with this update. After this, they said they'd like to make it up with a new pizza pie. Great! But then... Then I reached out to arrange for said pie at 6pm on Friday. This is the time and day that I had made my original order. This is the message I received back: "Hi, it's hard for us to do it during peak hours on Friday - Sunday since we have customers usually waiting past their pick up times due to the high demand. We have no problem getting you that pie tomorrow for lunch or before 5pm if that works. Hope you understand." Are these "peak hours" to blame for the bad pizza I paid over 45 dollars for the week prior (after tax and tip)? And since when does making it right come with strings attached? "We can make good on the bad pizza you got from us, as long as it's during a time when people don't ordinarily buy a pizza." I'm confused. Here's the real deal, then: On a good day this pizza is no better than any other spot in a 5 mile radius. But many of those other places aren't charging nearly as much as this spot -- which admits that it can't meet the demand that it itself controls through their online ordering system! On a bad day, like the day I got my order, this pizza is overpriced garbage. That slice in the photo I included? A piece of Stoffer's French Bread Pizza that spent too long in the toaster oven would be tastier -- and cost less than half the price. So save yourself the trouble. Pizza was delicious! Let me cut to the chase we kept it simple with the pepperoni and jalapeños. Right amount of cheese, right amount of sauce. The bread was cooked to perfection and the flavor was damn delicious. Reminded me of Pie trap pizza on Arrow but better! Price was reasonable but I'd say 2 big backs can easily kill one of these together. We shared as 3 and manage to kill one easily. My bro got the extra cheese dip and said it tasted better. I didn't want to chance it as we were a long way from home. People here were very friendly as we got here 6 minutes before closing time and they still attended us. Giving this 3 stars because I cannot justify $40 for a pepperoni pizza. Especially as an Italian lol. I was excited to try this place because of all the hype it's been getting recently. We ordered online with a set pick up time for 6:30pm. It wasn't ready when we got there, we waited another 30 minutes for the pizza which was disappointing. At that point we decided we would eat inside and we sat at the bar top and watched all of the pizzas being made which was nice. It's a very cold and sterile small shop that's not really comfortable. After deciding the pepperoni pizza was pretty plain and that we were eating there we went and told the cashier to add burrata and hot honey to the pizza since it wasn't ready yet. The burrata came on the side which was disappointing, sounds like this is normal after reading some reviews. The price to add those two things was another $10. I really can't believe we paid nearly $50 for a pizza..... it was good but is it the best in LA as people are claiming? I don't think so. read more

Went yesterday and got a "reservation" for a spinach pie for 145pm. I got there about 10 minutes early and they mentioned it would be more like 2pm. Luckily there was a coffee shop a few doors down to kill time and get caffeinated. Eventually it was around 2pm and I got my pie. I grabbed a slice and no flop. It was fairly rigid and the crust had a nice texture and crisp. The flavor was good and they didnt overwhelm the white pizza with garlic. Some leaves of fresh basil was a nice plus to put on slices. This pizza was easily good for 2 people maybe 3. The folks at the table next to me wanted to try a slice and offered me a slice of the pepperoni-jalapeno-and burrata with some hot honey. I have to say I was impressed, since Im not a pepperoni fan. The pepperoni was of high quality and not overpowering. Great crisp on it. The jalapenos gave nice kick and really balanced it. The tomato sauce was really good but a little overshadowed by the toppings. I would have to order a tomato pie next time to see how that really holds up. My friend showed up about 10 minutes I got my pie to help me eat it and took the left over slices back to his place. I think the place is really nice and simple inside but could use a few more seats and coat hangers. The pie was 43 dollars after taxes, so its not cheap. I do think its worth it for the quality and is a place worthy of visiting occasionally and out of your way(considering I live in Noho, took the train and bike to it). I think this may be the best NY pie in LA, and even taking that from Appollonias down the road in Mid Wilshire. I think that you can "reserve" your pie and not wait in long lines and not have to pay cash makes this alone above Appollonias. I will likely have a new review of them since the D line should open in Labrea and Wilshire a block away from them sometime hopefully in the spring. Is this THE BEST pizza in LA? Not sure but certainly a top 5, maybe top 3. The quality is there, but Id like to see more different toppings, and they need to make sure they maintain the quality they have now. They are open 1pm to sellout(Which could be 3pm-6pm) Wed-Sunday. I highly recommend you order an earlier pie from 11am when the website opens the days they are open. read more

I recently left LA after visiting for a few days, and while I was there I ended up going to Sonny's twice in three days. That probably tells you everything you need to know. I grew up in New Jersey, and even though I don't live there anymore, I'm still very serious about pizza. Sonny's really impressed me. The owners are originally from New Jersey too, and you can tell they know exactly what they're doing. From the tomato cans and Italian sodas to the music playing inside, the whole place feels like a real New Jersey pizza spot. You can tell this place was built by people who care about bringing the best of pizza culture to LA. Across my two visits I tried the pepperoni jalapeño pizza, a plain pizza, and the vodka pizza. All three were great. The pepperoni jalapeño with Mike's Hot Honey was sensational. I also added burrata to the plain pizza and it was honestly 11/10. The crust had the perfect level of crunchiness while still being soft inside, exactly how it should be. The staff were also very nice. I had a great chat with one of the guys working there, which just added to the whole neighborhood pizza spot feeling. One of the best pizzas I've had in a looooong time. I've already told a few friends in LA they need to check it out, and if I lived in LA it would definitely be my go-to pizza spot. read more

It's not very cheesy - so the main star is the crust and light sauce. The price is thus unjustifiable to me. $40+ for a regular pizza - and comes down to really good dough/crust - I feel like economically I know better spots that you can taste the cheese and all ingredients. As a guy who grew up in New Jersey and New York I am somewhat of a pizza expert and I can say with full confidence this place is as legit as it gets and on par with the best pizza shops in Jersey and New York (the best pizza in the world of course). The style of pizza is the classic New York/Jersey type of pizza - thin, crunchy outside but amazing chew to it at the same time. When you get that combo as right as these guys do it's a science that needs to be studied because so many try to replicate that crunchy outside layer that has zero flop yet maintains a level of chewiness that you can only dream of. This place perfects executes on that perfectly. The cheese, sauce and dough is all top notch. It doesn't have any extra grease which is part of the reason there is zero flop with it. The sauce is the perfect combo of salty, tangy (but not too tangy) and a touch of sweetness (I hate when it's too sweet, these guys got the sauce recipe perfected). The cheese is so, so tasty and holds together so well, nice and tight. I've been here twice in the last month and tried the pepperoni and jalapeño - they top their pizzas with the perfect amount of toppings you'd want. And I love that they throw a side of fresh basil next to the pie so you can rip it up yourself and sprinkle it on how you want. That really brings the experience to another level. I have used the word "perfect" a lot in this review and that is very intentional because this is in fact a perfect pizza. Any LA transplant or someone who has never had pizza in their life that has given less than a 5 star rating to this god-givenly talented pizza shop simply has no idea what they are taking the time to write a review about.....this is nothing short of a perfect pizza pie, period. read more
