It Was Better When They Used to Care.... It has been 6+ months since Souvla opened in the Marina and I can see the quality slipping on all fronts, but most of all, the food. I ordered the Lamb gyro, which was dry and completely vapid of flavor due to the completely overcooked lamb, lack of harissa yogurt sauce and bland pita. I have had so much better in the past, but the past two visits have been pretty much the same. My girlfriend also complained that the sweet potato was completely undercooked and the salad was also very dry...she had to get two orders of dressing in order to try and remedy the situation. The french fries were once again cold...this has happened many times. Additionally, when a server brings you fries, you would expect them to bring ketchup or some type of dipping sauce...especially when you are paying $5 for what is a medium-sized order of fries. Finally, the white wine at $12 a glass is worse than the $3 buck Chuck at Trader Joes....overly sweet and no balance. I don't expect much at that price, but you expect something palatable. All in all, I would expect more from a San Francisco-based chain restaurant and with all of the options in the neighborhood, I am no longer going to risk going back to Souvla for yet again another sub-par meal. When I was inside, I saw a cockroach crawling along the wall. I can't even imagine what happens in the kitchen if a cockroach crawls around guests. I wouldn't be surprised if the kitchen is completely unsanitary. I have not seen such an irresponsible business conduct for a long time. read more

Things tasted pretty "fake." Ordered the avgolemono soup and side chicken and the soft serve with olive oil. The meat itself is delicious, but the soup was not a pleasant experience. It'll do in a pinch. Soft serve was unimpressive. read more

NOMZZZZ I LOVE IT HERE!!!! I am so happy that SF finally has a really quality, fast-casual Greek spot. Their gyros are so delicious and taste quite authentic. I would definitely recommend getting the lamb! I would also definitely recommend getting one of the salads. I was hesitant at first because sometimes salads can be disappointing. But the lamb salad was HUGE and TASTY. I ended up going back for the salad a few days later because it was just that good. If you want to elevate your experience even further, I would recommend getting a side of their Greek fries (and put them in the salad. Mind blown, I know). Souvla has a really good business going and I am so happy that there is one a few blocks away from me. read more

i 10/10 highly recommend this place! souvla was on my list of places to eat when visiting san francisco and i'm so glad i got to try it. you order at the counter and get a number to take to a table, but this is a popular spot and there's not a lot of tables so expect some wait to find seating! i ordered the lamb gyro wrap which was bigger than i had expected but also so, so delicious :) my friend and i both thought we weren't going to be able to finish our wraps but we each ended up eating the whole thing. it was that good! the wrap has the right amount of flavor with lots of meat and the pita itself is nice and chewy - not too soft or hard. i read some reviews that the chestnut st. location isn't as good as the other locations, and i can't really compare because i haven't been to any of the others, but i thought the food tasted amazing! read more

Fast, easy, delicious! I eat here pretty often and it's an easy healthy choice in the neighborhood. The frozen yogurt is very good, and worth stopping by for on its own. I have a tip - go earlier in the day for chicken sandwich. When I've eaten here at lunch time, or before 4, it's been better than when I've gone later. I have officially eaten here enough to notice that their chicken is much saltier later in the day. It probably has to do with how they prepare it. It also seems juicier later too. Maybe the juice from the cooking process soaks in more? Some people might really like that though. I know broth is a thing. Another tip - side of sweet potato is so delicious! Going down hill? Souvla used to be one of my favorite restaurants and I always orders the Veggie salad with chicken add on which was fantastic. But the last couple times the chicken has been dry and the salad overly salted. I feel terrible giving only 3 stars but honesty must prevail. Oh Souvla, how I love thee, let me count the ways. If you've read my reviews for the other locations you'll understand why I'm such a fan of this place. Perfection in a concept, great service and quality eats make this an easy 5 star experience every time. My go to order is the chicken salad Greek style because who the heck doesn't want fries on their salad!? It's delicious and you can taste the quality of produce and proteins. I love the shaved fennel and bits of citrus in this salad because they brighten up the overall experience. Do yourself a favor and TREAT YOSELF a frozen Greek yogurt and take it to go. I'm going to be brutally honest here. I come here exclusively for the Greek frozen yogurt. That's it. I literally have never ordered anything else from this restaurant except the various Greek frozen yogurt flavors. They are divine. I like Baclava the most. The wildflower honey is good, but it's cheaper to buy it plain and just take it home with you and add your own honey (which also prevents the honey from freezing and getting firm on the walk home). The servers are really fast and polite. There's a doggy bowl of water right out front. The establishment is great all things considered. But if you're looking for a review of the food, I unfortunately can't help you. But if you're looking for a review of the Greek frozen yogurt. My husband and I were walking around in the Marina and decided to try this place out. And boy am I glad that we did. We shared a lamb salad and a chicken wrap. You could tell that all of the ingredients were fresh and sourced locally. This is some of the best Mediterranean food that I have been able to find in the Bay. This place is super popular so beware during peak hours. However I LOVE their Greek yogurt ice cream more than anything with honey and baklava on top. I went through a phase where I would get it multiple times a week. But, they also have a really awesome Greek vegetarian salad with potatoes as the meat replacement. The lamb leg gyro was pretty average- mildly seasoned meat with very little sauce, untoasted pita, and sparse vegetables thrown on top. The Baklava Greek Yogurt ice cream was essentially a soft-serve with a bitter greek yogurt aftertaste and some smushed baklava on the side. It's just not worth a $20 meal or more than 3 stars. High quality ingredients and good cooking = popular. They could use some portion control. Picks: Snake River Farms Pork Shoulder Salad ($13) was huge, almost too big. So excited that they opened after 4 month. I placed an order through their new app and it said a 30minute wait time, As soon As I got the "your order is ready" text i walked out to pick up, only to find a line of over 50 ppl waiting for their pickup order as well. I couldn't believe this to I went to the window and there was only one person attending the line and yes these were all people who placed orders online. This line barely moved I waited in line in the cold for 20 minutes and gave up. By the time I would have gotten to the front of the line my meal would have been cold. My peanut allergy prevented me from getting the Baklava Crumbles on my yogurt, but based on the reactions of my two friends I feel like that flavor is definitely the one worth getting. I ordered the Cretan Wildflower Honey, which was their greek yogurt with a fresh honey drizzle on top. I wish they added the toppings in layers, because once I ate the honey layer off the top, there was only plain greek yogurt at the bottom. Best salad in the marina! I love Veggie salad with kale only, add chicken, olive oil Dressing, and sub harissa yogurt dressing. It's pricy but big enough for 2 meals for me. Make sure you go to the Hayes Valley location. This place doesn't live up to the name. I'm a big fan of Souvla, but at this location the pita is dry and stale, the pork is too salty and has hard bits, and the Greek yogurt had a clump of baklava in it so hard I couldn't eat it. So, still love Souvla, but I advise you skip the Marina location. Clearly not as good as expected. read more

I'm sorry to say that Souvla has not made a very good comeback after being closed for almost four months during the pandemic. I was really excited to try their lamb pita sandwich again and my all time favorite the Avgolemono soup! I was disappointed for two reasons: the shoddy, poor quality of the lamb pita and they have increased their prices by $1... including an extra charge for eating utensils! The lamb pita sandwich is now $15! It was cold and thrown together in the takeout box with absolutely NO harissa-spiked yoghurt and a very stingy sprinkling of olive oil and feta cheese.
