Arrived and went in. There was only one guy in front of us waiting for a table. There was an empty table outside and several inside, all of them clean. They took our name (party of two) and told us a ten yo fifteen minute wait. After about five minutes they put the single guy ahead of us at a table. In the next ten minutes several more couples arrived and put their name in now being quoted a twenty five minute wait. Then one of the couples who came in after us went outside and sat at the one open outdoor tables. So now the hostess would have to kick them off the table for us to sit at what was an open table. The alternative was us waiting fir one of the occupied tables outside to open up. By now waiting area is full of people, no room for any sort of "social distancing ". At this point, fifteen minutes into waiting, only the one single guy has been seated. Still open clean tables inside. The hostess taking names but not seating anyone. WE WALKED OUT AND LEFT. This was a meal that had some hits and some misses. Went this morning, there was a 5 minute wait. My date and I got into a booth that was raised. I'm a tall guy, so I really had to hunch over to enjoy my food. Server was great...attentive and knowledgeable. The facility could be cleaner. Old splattered stains all over the partition. There is a difference between old and clean, and old and dirty. My meal the #23, was a bacon, ham and sausage omelette with two types of cheese. By itself, it is a 4 star omelette. Great portion and tasty, and my requested side of salsa took it to a better place. The home fries on the side were a little under done. The biscuits and gravy I got on the side were below average. Today was by far the worst experience I had with this establishment. I have been going here for over 10 years and I have seen the change in staffing and I am highly disappointed that they have strayed away for that nice homely feel. Today Jackson wearing the white shirt was very crude and passive aggressive and that is no way to treat a paying customer or anyone for that matter. He is a horrible representation of what is a great place normally. I get it that it is busy but in no way should you cut people off when talking or dismiss something a customer is asking for. All because I asked for utensils with my to go order. Also I waited 10 minutes on the phone but I was driving over and then when I ordered that gentleman was sweet but then they forgot about me and I asked Matt to check in my order and he went and got. He was nice and professional. Hot links were different today and of pork when I know they used different ones which were beef. Either way it was undercooked and gritty. All Jackson had to say was oh well it's the same meat we have been using for 35 years. I left my name and number for the manager to call me and we shall see the outcome. Decided to go out and see the older side of Elk Grove as I've just driven through there. Found this little gem of a comfort food. Me and the wife were greeted and the friendly smile made me feel right at home. Melanie made sure we didn't wait too long when we needed those extra napkins(I'm messy) or more water. I rarely wait an hour to be seated at a restaurant. But everyone kept telling me that this restaurant was great for breakfast...so I waited. Worth the wait after enjoying my breakfast. Ordered biscuits and gravy with grits and the French toast. I am very picky with my biscuits and gravy. But they got the combo just right of a fluffy inside and crisp outside. And the gravy was amazing! Home run on biscuits and gravy, and definitely big enough to share. Same hearty portion for my French toast, and definitely from scratch. Good solid cup of coffee to go with it. I've been back since that first visit, and have enjoyed the country fried steak and eggs Benedict. The good: the food is delicious. The chicken some sausage is very tasty, the grits are light and creamy, and the biscuits are the fluffiest I've ever had. The not so good: the servers are very friendly but not attentive. I asked each of the hosts for water. They both said, "sure, I'll be right back." I never got a glass of water. By the time my food arrived, the sausages were no longer hot. The waitress never came to the table except to take my order, deliver my food, and deliver the check. My husband and I love this place! I actually wrote a review for this restaurant for my college composition class! The food is outstanding! You'll never go home hungry. When I am feeling something savory, I enjoy the chili con carne (This is a HUGE omelette with a mound of chili and cheese within and on top of the omelette). When I am feeling for something sweet, my go to is the Apple Pie pancakes. These pancakes were beautiful and buttery brown and were topped with apple pie filling along with whipped cream and a little bit of cinnamon. The service is always good and there is something about their coffee that seems to tie it all together. I definitely recommend coming here! Be sure to show up early on a weekend or make a reservation as they do get busy. read more

I ate at the Elk Grove location for the first Time, my friend was with me. My food was decent but my friend's not so much. He didn't have much food, he requested shrimp on his grits that looked uncooked and the grits were filled with a pool of butter that had to be drained into another bowl. I felt bad given that I suggested this place due to my experience with the S. Sac location. I think we will go to that location instead on the next visit if we do back. read more

I have been going to this place for over 20 years. My parents took me as a kid and since I recently moved back to the area, I had to stop in. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is always welcoming and they have great breakfasts. My favorite is their chicken fried steak with eggs and potatoes. The portion is huge and filling. My boyfriend and I likes coming here for breakfast. He usually gets the eggs Benedict and I really enjoy the country fried steak and eggs. The fried potatoes are delicious. However, do not come here if you're short on time! Really really slow service. I been here at least three times and were seated right away yet all of which we had to wait at least 10-15 minutes for our server to get to our table. Really?!?! What's the point of seating people down at a table if we have to wait that long for someone to even get our drinks. My suggestion is to hire more people or better servers. read more

I took my elderly mother here for breakfast after a long morning at Kaiser. We were both starving and it was a busy Thursday morning. I have been here in the past and it's okay food but greasy-spoon breakfast isn't too hard to mess up. We never even ordered. When we arrived and stood at the register it took a couple of minutes for the hostess to come up. While we were waiting a customer who needed to pay her check stood behind us. When the hostess finally came to the register she asked if we'd mind if we allowed her to help the customer trying to pay her check first. We said okay, not a problem. After, the hostess said she needed to clear a table before she could seat us. There were at least two empty tables I could see but we again agreed. I had my mother sit while we waited and I observed the hostess clear a table while also managing the phone. When she came back to the register my mom stood up assuming she was ready but the hostess continued to count out menus at the counter without saying anything to us. My mom couldn't help herself and asked, a bit annoyed, if she was ready. The hostess replied condescendingly that she was the only one there and they were really busy and then asked my mother if SHE was ready to be seated while looking quite put out. Obviously irritated she sat us and took a few more minutes to come back and offer us coffee to which we responded by leaving. Seriously. The food is not worth that disrespectful BS. This is the second time I've had a crap experience there... to be fair, it wasn't the staff that confused me as "the help" the first time but after this I don't think I need to surround myself in that kind of environment. read more

We ended up leaving money and a full plate of food and went to grab breakfast somewhere else. The staff didn't acknowledge us after being sat.
