I am always amazed at the different taste combinations , tonight I had the cauliflower , the squash , sliders and the el Pastore pizza and for dessert we had the peanut butter and jelly soft serve . Every thing was delicious the cauliflower and squash had interesting taste profiles , we wanted to order second portions . I have never had the pastore pizza but it was the best pizza offered , sorry that i have not tried it before . The garlic bread is life-changing. If we had stopped there, this would have been an easy 6 star review. Pizza was good - classic New York was excellent, the Stranger was...ok, so averages out to good. They did seem on the smaller size for the price point. If you have two people to take along with you, two pizzas would probably be perfect. Otherwise, a salad, the garlic bread, and a pizza and you could be good. This was really excellent. We came with a group of four and got the meatball sliders and beet salad to start, followed by four pies: pepperoni, old town, nellie, and stranger. I'd have a very hard time not getting the meatball sliders and the nellie again -- of all the pies, the nellie (with SO many shallots) was our favorite and the most unique. Had the Danny Boy ($24 Square pizza- dan dan chicken, vodka sauce, spicy sesame, cilantro, scallion) and the pepperoni ($24) with free hot honey on the side (that's not on the menu so you must ask for it). The Danny boy is Sicilian, so it had a crisp, fairly dry and airy thick crust. The first bite was flavorful, but I didn't like the overwhelming amount or taste of the sesame sauce. 5/10. Stopped in this week and was blown away! Potato Chip Salad - so fun and tasty! It has vinegar which I am not normally a fan of but it wasn't drenched in it. Flatiron Spritz Mocktail - Interesting taste. Not too sweet. Has rosemary which makes for a tasty cocktail. Classic NY Pie - Classic and perfect. Ploughman - So goooooood. A great mix of flavors. The pizza comes out perfectly hot but not scorching and you can dig in right away. Banana Soft Serve with peanut butter dip and babka crumble - Delicious! An amazing end to an overall fantastic meal. Service was spot on and attentive. PS: Took some pizza home and it reheats perfectly in the oven at 375 degrees. I am going back in two weeks to try another type of pie! read more

Feel kind of bad not giving more stars, but writing this review is just a place holder until I can come back and re-judge this place. The reason I need to come back, is that I feel like the experience I had taking out and eating 1 hour later might have taken at toll on my pizza. I reserved a time slot on Tock to come pick up my pies, and came at the allotted time. You inform the person inside Breads, and they tell you usually to wait 15minutes. They do give you some cheesy breadsticks to munch on as you wait outside (these were actually surprisingly super good). I got the cheese and the everything, and took it home. By the time I ate and shared with my friend, it was about an hour later. The flavor was actually quite good...but the crust really wasn't doing it for me. The texture seemed off, and a bit too tough, but I have a feeling it's because I didn't eat it right away. I'll eventually give this place one more shot, but I think your best bet is just to eat it right away at the outside table at Breads once you get your pie. read more

3.5 for the food, 5 for service / ambiance. We had a great server, who answered all of our questions and offered great recommendations, and checked in with us with the right frequency. My friend has a dairy sensitivity, which they were great about accomodating. The restaurant has a retro/glam diner kind of look, which is bright and fun. The Triple Lux cocktail was a perfect aperitivo cocktail with a balance of sweet, bitter and citrus. We were most excited to try the potato chip salad, but actually found it to be underwhelming. The vinegar delivers a bold punch and the texture of the chips gives a nice crunch, but it otherwise felt unsubstantial. The pizza was very good. Loved the crust, which was crisp and had a super satisfying chew. The Nellie was garlicky, sweet and tangy, and the Oddfather had some nice umami from the eggplant. Would order both of these again. Overall, I would come back if I am in the neighborhood, but might not make a special trip. read more

Wylie Dufresne is back, now making pizza, and still with his very good scrambled eggs. The eggs are in his excellent Calzone, the must try item so far from this new business located within Bread Bakery. You need to pre-order in advance from Tock for a time slot from 5-8pm, Tuesdays-Thursdays. Time slots sold out pretty quickly, and are currently on a waitlist, so add your name for a chance to try this calzone, as well as a menu of delicious thin-crust pizzas. The Classic was great, as was the Everything ($19). Hopefully this sticks around for awhile, I'd be back once more time slots open up to try some of the other pies. read more

Excellently crispy cooked pizza dough with interesting and delicious topping combinations. I got the Ploughman and horseradish on it was perfect! Brussel sprout special could have been slightly more roasted to give the charred flavor but I appreciated that it was not mostly burnt. Drinks were good but not necessarily memorable. Got reservations for 5:30 on Wed. Restaurant was very busy. Interior is nice and service was very good. Had chickpea fries for a starter with stretch sauce. Outside of fries looks very brown but taste is not burnt and fries were warm all the way thru. Shared pepperoni pizza. I liked it alot but my husband likes alittle more sauce on his pizza. Also tried Clay Pigeon and Hotel New Yorker cocktail - both were very good but I particularly liked the Hotel New Yorker. Had special chocolate soft serve with chocolate syrup and cookie crumbles for dessert. Very chocolately. Overall, great meal. read more

My girlfriend and I were recommended to come here. We are from Philly and have tried all the great places in Philly and NYC. Everything here was amazing! We started out with a Caesar salad and the cucumbers. Both were unique and delicious. We ordered two pizzas, one plain as the girlfriend is vegetarian and a cuban with half of the meat on one side, so she can try it. Wow!! Be both loved the pizzas. We shared everything including two glasses of wine and two glasses of draft beer. The place was clean and the service was terrific. We will return. This place was pretty solid! We walked in right at the opening and got seats at the bar fairly easily. The decor and layout was super cool and had a retro vibe to it, with a really interesting take on a few classics. We got the potato chip salad to start which was a very strange but somewhat addicting salad - forewarning that the chips essentially are the salt/vinegar seasoning for the salad so be prepared. We also got the shallots 3 way pizza and zucchini pizza to share, both of which were delicious and very different from normal pizza flavors. The crust was also well formed and the slices held up to the flop test which was a plus. To finish we got the mini cookies for dessert which were tasty but were a super small portion for $8. I've always been a fan of Wylie Defresne. So my foodie pals and I decided to pop in here "just for drinks" because undoubtably there will be interesting cocktails. And there were indeed. We opted for a Thyme's Square basically vodka martini with thyme, bay leaf and marjoram infused...delicious. As we sat and chatted we saw chef Defesne throwing dough in the back. Always a good sign when you catch the actual creator of a place there working the kitchen. He came out and having met him before we all had a nice chat with him and shared some rare chartreuse that one of us had brought along. As he appreciated the lovely beverage, he brought us out some pizza to enjoy while we finished our cocktails...well let me tell you, this place lives up to it's premise of NY PIZZA. They deliver a perfect slice with crunchy light crust and the right tomato and cheese pull. And that single slice immediately put me in the frame of mind to come back to eat a lot more of the menu. It's a fun spot with an enticing menu. Looking forward to another trip! read more
