Dishes we tried included the mochiko chicken ramen which included big pieces of chicken, curry ramen, thick and tasty curry soup and fried rice combo with veggie ramen and gyoza plus a side of gyoza which the family enjoyed. My husband and I came here because I saw a special featuring this restaurant on cheap eats. It took about 15 minutes for our food to come out. We were the only ones in the restaurant when entering at the time so I would've thought that we would've been served before the people that came after us. I had the mapo tofu ramen ($11.95) and my husband had the Shabu Shabu curry udon. For $15.95, my husband said he would have thought that he would've been more filled; he filled up on the rest of my mapo tofu ramen. Alas, I was disappointed with the mapo tofu as it tasted more like hot and sour soup. The noodles texture was good though. It was hot when served and the server came to refill our water. The decor of the restaurant has much to be desired. We sat along a long skinny walkway. So, don't come here if you want ambiance. The good thing is that they have a very large menu selection. Interesting little shop on the backside of Market City Shopping Center, you look at the store front looks like only a counter to order, walk in and go to the back of the restaurant. There are about 10 tables. You choose your seat and they will bring your a menu. The menu is really large and might take a while to make a selection. The food is good and portions quite large. Let me start off my saying.. pre covid they were awesome!!!! They aren't bad. But during COVID, they've made their dishes different and not up to the standard that they once had before. I love to order their Won ton ramen. I've ordered it numerous times throughout the years. But recently, they've been getting sloppy and stingy. They just seem to throw in a whole bunch of bean sprouts (like ALOT!) and then throw in a bunch of won ton wrappers without the meat. They do make proper won tons too. But it's deceiving if you've nearly got the same amount of bean sprouts and won ton wrappers than actual ramen noodles. I've posted a pic in hopes to explain it better. It's just a bunch of won ton all slapped together without the meat. This is one of the few places in Honolulu that serve ramen combos. The prices are good for the amount of food served. My BF and I agreed that my seafood ramen was very tasty while his shoyu ramen was okay. The gyoza is pretty good. The fried rice lacks flavor but is nice and fluffy. In the third grade, I think I went to sumo ramen at least once a week. Even now, although I've tried more sophisticated and upscale ramen, even two michelin starred places, I find myself craving sumo ramen's food once in a while. I usually get their shoyu ramen and put rayu in it. It's definitely not the most complex or high-quality ramen, and it's marginally better than some of the frozen noodles you can get at nijiya down the street, but it's a good portion size and it's a comforting flavor. I think the real stars of sumo ramen, however, are their side dishes. The fried rice is solid, especially since I no longer refuse to eat peas and carrots, and their gyoza is terrific. They are juicy and a little oily (in a good way) with a strong peppery and garlicky flavor. I could easily eat twenty. Their combos are pretty cheap and takeout is speedy. This place is my go to when I'm craving crispy noodles. But tonight my daughter wanted to share with me and she didn't want that. So we opted for their pork and vegetable fried noodles. It was okay. The food reminds me of childhood and just tastes like home. Like, it's not objectively the best ramen or curry I've ever had, but the flavors are so comforting that I want to go back and eat at Sumo Ramen and Curry when it's raining or if I feel sad or if I need a pick me up. I was craving ramen and Sumo was close by, so we decided to give it a try. It completely hit the spot! The flavors remind me of a local mom and pop type shop and you can taste that this place has been around for years. The flavors were nostalgic and I truly could not have asked for more. This is not a fancy ramen shop but is fantastic in its own right. The prices here are also amazing. For $11.50, I got the mochiko chicken curry combo, which came with gyoza and saimin. I got two full meals out of it! They also have mini plates at around $5.50 and their other ramen dishes are about $8.50. You cannot beat those prices. The saimin was fantastic and the meat they add was the perfect addition. It tasted smoked but had a really good depth of flavor that added to an otherwise standard saimin. The gyoza was crispy and delicious: everything I could have wanted. The curry was also good, a little on the sweet side, and went well with the mochiko chicken. The chicken itself was probably my least favorite part, just because it was a little drier and less crispy than I would have liked. But I still happily consumed it all. For a place that has ramen in its name, it sure wasn't very good. We ordered the shoyu ramen combo and miso ramen combo. Mine had bean sprouts that tasted like old water and the broth was obviously not prepared for hours like higher quality/authentic Japanese places do. The broth did taste like miso but it didn't have any complex flavors like a good ramen broth should. It came with one piece of charsiu which was average quality, some green onion, and a slice of naruto. Doesn't include egg like many places do. All the waiters speak Cantonese and mandarin very loudly and kind of ruins the ambiance since the kitchen is exposed and the entire dining area can hear every word. Each time I've come here, I mostly do take out (as I haven't had a chance to dine inside yet). What can I say about this place? Well, the food is good........but not outstanding. I noticed the curry they serve here, does not have a lot of "shredded" beef inside, like Curry House. Also the color of their curry is much lighter than Curry House. For tonight's dinner, I ordered the Spicy Chicken Wings with curry. When I was placing my order, I asked the girl if they had brown rice? Sure enough, this place serves brown rice, and the best thing about that is, they didn't charge me extra! (NICE!) When I got my plate.........another thing I liked was that they separated the curry from the rice, & my entree. When I got to gubbin', I was hoping my Spicy Chicken Wings was gonna be crispy, but when I got home to eat it, as I opened up the Styrofoam box to eat my chicken, the wings were soggy. :( Now I'm not sure if it was suppose to be like that, or since they serve up the food hot, when I got home (I live close by), the steam in the box made the chicken soggy? It was absolutely terrible eating there, the whole place was a mess and did not smell nice, their bathroom was outside of the building up some stairs and in a room with a number padlock, like that is sketchy AF and the owner tried taking my son there ALONE at night! I ordered the tan tan chicken katsu ramen and the chicken was raw in the middle, I sent it back and they didn't even replace or cook the chicken more because it was still fleshy pink in the middle, not to mention the soup itself tasted like a sweaty wet dog and I found a hair with my noodles, my family didn't enjoy their meals either. That's not even the last of it because when we paid for our food we left a 2$ tip for this almost 180$ Dinner and as we were leaving the owner stopped us and tried to have us raise the tip, this woman was trying to say it was the law to pay at least 15% tip and was trying to convince us with other customers receipts, which showed the other customers had paid 20% or higher in tips, she was completely unbelievable and when we continued to refused she started to yell at us to raise the tip and even called us 'Fucking Americans' as we just left the joint. It was absolutely unprofessional and unethical of her to do such a thing. Never going back there again and I hope she realizes that that kind of behavior can potentially put her out of business for good. read more

Upon arriving they had a table blocking entry but ample room to reach in to pay and grab your food. Arriving home opened a container to a healthy portion of crispy mochiko chicken. They pack the curry separate to prevent it from getting soggy. Yup it was just as I remember. Curry little on the sweeter side and matched well with the chicken. Was 9.95 including tax. Give the fried rice a try and you won't be disappointed. PROS: perfect portions, savory grindz, and decent price ($10.99 tax included for a combo). This is the place I head to when I want a ramen set for less than $15. It is not fancy or one of those ramen bistros, but Sumo Ramen & Curry offers cheap, hot, and filling food. Usually, I get food from here when I work those late nights and I want a steaming bowl of noodles after sitting in my cubicle, wrapped in my warm jacket and wearing my Uggs to keep my feet warm. I normally phone in my order when I leave work so that my order is ready for pick up as soon as I get there. I usually order the mochiko chicken ramen set, which includes shoyu ramen, 4 pieces of gyoza, and fried rice. The ramen comes with bean sprouts and char siu. The broth is light and salty. The gyoza is the standard type of gyoza you can find at any ramen shop (cooked in the usual style with one side being pan-fried). The fried rice is surprisingly light. It could use a little more seasoning, but it is not too oily with a good ratio of rice to the other components (which include pieces of char siu, fish cake, peas, carrots, and egg). There is so much food with this ramen set that I always have leftovers. As it is take out, they package the various items separately in four containers. There is one container with the fried rice and mochiko chicken, another container has the gyoza with ponzu sauce, the third container has the ramen noodles and toppings, and the last container has the broth. read more
