Stay away from this place during Dinner time. These guys are severely understaffed to keep up with their doordash, Uber eats, regular takeouts and phone orders. There's only one cashier lady who takes orders and bags takeout (also very rude) and 2 or 3 cooks making the food. I usually pick up here for myself and never really had any problems but I've noticed how busy it's been and customers are upset with how long it takes and having the wrong orders. Tonight, my family and I ordered takeout.. ALL THREE of our orders were wrong and we waited 25 mins. We ordered two dishes with no green onion and no beef which is not too much to ask for I would think. Both came with green onion and Beef. I ordered a Chicken Katsu curry combo, Shit you not.. i got a Chicken Katsu RAMEN combo... TOTALLY DIFFERENT (look at their menu to see what I mean) but other than that, stay away. I believe I have only sat in to eat once, but I have ordered take out more than a handful of times. I highly recommend ordering takeout because the service is prompt and easy. You place a call, they get the order ready and they are on time. Compared to other places I order takeout and when I arrive for pick I still need to wait... Sumo Ramen though is perfect for those are on a tight schedule and on the go! I typically order catering items (since my job involves me to order food for 20-30 people usually). I have tried ramen once when I sat in but it was a while ago that I cannot recall what I had.. For catering items though; I recommend the Mochiko Chicken & Gyoza platter. Both are favorites for the group that I help feed. Portion sizes are perfect. The prices have gone up from the first time, but that is understandable given cost of living and the demand, so I don't mind. This was the worst bowl of ramen I have ever had. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. There was a star next to it on the menu, signifying that it was a recommended dish. The only resemblance to a bowl of tonkotsu ramen was the color of the broth - milky. The broth was salty, but lacked any kind of flavor. The noodles were mushy, over-cooked. The half boiled egg was salty, if that's even possible. The outside of the egg had the slightest tinge of tan to it, making me think that it had been marinated in a shoyu sauce, but all I tasted was salt. It was unpalatable. I should have known not to expect much, when the waitress, who delivered the bowl of ramen, called it tonkatsu. Throughout our meal,, one male employee, who was behind the counter, was speaking to another employee, who was standing 10 feet away. They were speaking Cantonese, shouting at each other. So, coupled with the noise of dishes being washed, it was very unpleasant and noisy. The restaurant had a funky smell. We decided to go to Sumo Ramen as it was a cold and windy night. When we walked in, the place was fairly clean and the staff friendly. We got seated quickly. As we walked by other patrons, the food seemed promising. I ordered the beef stew combo which came with ramen and gyoza. It was soso. The ramen was like saimin noodles and the condiments were mediocre. Maddy had chicken katsu which was ok..The katsu sauce was drab. Darcie had the fried rice combo and it too was blah. From the outside, it looks like a takeout joint, but there is seating available and they will bring you your order after you placing it and it is properly served in dishes. While you can sit in the tiny galley-style restaurant, think narrow and long, I prefer take-out to avoid the smell of curry in my hair and on my clothes. Sorry, it's that keen sense of smell curse...or blessing. The curry is Japanese-style, salty and rich with a golden caramel color. Have it over rice or in ramen or udon with your choices of meat -- shrimp tempura, mochiko chicken, chicken katsu, oyster, spam katsu, beef stew, gyoza, spicy chicken wings, croquette and shabu beef. I am writing this review just minutes after making a pig of myself from the stuff that I ordered for lunch. Food was delivered in 15 minutes (Thanks Uber Eats, perfect words for what I had just done) and in my takeout bag was an order of cold soba, cold udon, shrimp tempura and gyoza! This is not your typical boil your dried soba sticks and serve fare. The soba and udon were chewy and had the best texture and thickness. I'm usually not an udon fan (I ordered a side of udon by mistake), I'll eat it, but don't ask me to jump for joy afterwards, but Sumo's stuff is by far the best udon I've ever had without stepping on Japan soil or opening a container of the stuff and adding hot water. The soba left me speechless. I'm a soba hound and can eat it all day. I wanna go live there at Sumo Ramen now! lol The shrimp tempura was still warm and light and not at all greasy. I was ready to burst into tears of joy. OMG, the gyoza! Chopped filling with the perfect zing of ginger in chewy gyoza wrap. Damn, it was all too, too good. I'm a fan, Sumo's! Went here one night after my daughters dance rehearsal. I'm not sure either of the king girls said one word to us the entire time. We walked in and I told her 4. I'm usually torn between two combos, the seafood ramen and the mochikio chicken curry combo. The seafood ramen combo consists of seafood ramen, fried rice, and 4 pieces of gyoza. The seafood ramen broth has a very strong garlic taste and it is filled to the rim with noodles, vegetables, and shrimp. The other combo I like is the mochiko chicken curry combo. This consists of shoyu ramen, mochiko chicken curry, and 4 pieces of gyoza. I like how the mochiko chicken isn't dry and the curry tastes sweet. Service here is great. The workers usually do a great job with taking your order right away and refilling your glass. One thing I didn't like is how squished it can be depending on where you're sitting. The udon was the same, however the noodles were all stuck together and were difficult to eat. The mochiko chicken was bland. Most people say things taste like chicken if they can't decide what something tastes like, well this chicken tasted like nothing. Just a greasy afterthought in my opinion. If looking for a curry ramen place, go to other places. Their organization is very dissatisfactory. Their food is not bad but this is the 3rd time going there and they mess up my order. They need to get their act together and stop making mistakes on orders. Good right? WTF!?! WTF!?! WTF!?! WTF!?! WTF!?! WTF!?! HALF THE BOWL WAS BEAN SPROUTS!!! And the pork slice (note the singularity) was like beef jerky! The only thing I tasted in the broth was ginger. I might have thought dish water but I didn't taste any Dawn. And there was a kamaboko slice?!? Excuse me but I ordered a RAMEN, not saimin. Who the hell puts BEAN SPROUTS in TONKATSU RAMEN!?!??!?
