Had my fix of Mapo Tofu Ramen at Sumo Ramen. First time at this location. It's located in the Market City Shopping center lower level. Between L & L and Mezzo. Parking was a breeze. Service was friendly. Although behind the counter chat levels were a bit high at times from the workers. We were seated at a table for two. I did notice that there was a table which could accommodate a party of six. My Ramen was not overly hot. Good taste and served piping hot.The silky tofu used broke apart while eating. This left a lot of Tofu bits in the broth when I finished eating. Enjoy

Today I got to try the Spicy Seafood Ramen Combo and was very tasty. Also, the service was friendly and helpful.

Decided to come here since the one at Kamehameha Shopping Center closed. This place is next to Ben Franklin and L&L, back side of Market City Mall, across of Kaimuki High School. Small space inside, 3 tables that seats 2 and 2 bigger tables in the back, that can probably seat 6-8 people. My husband and I always get the same items, curry udon and gyoza. Pretty much tastes the same as the one at Kamehameha Shopping center, the only difference is their curry udon did have small bits of garlic in the soup, which we didn't like. But overall, the curry udon and gyoza were good, along with the service. There is a restroom, but it's upstairs and you need a code. Amole parking, but if you the area, it can get pretty packed.

My husband wanted to eat ramen for lunch so decided to go to this place at the market city market place by Ben Franklin and Mezzo downstairs from Donut king and foodland. They open at 11am walked in and the server sat us right away notice alot of takeout out orders on the table. I didn't want to eat curry rice like I always ordered so went with shrimp tempura udon. The broth was light and just right. The tempura was pre- fab so I decided to put in the broth to soften it up. Came out pretty good. The udon noodles was chewy but that's udon noodles always. My husband went with he's favorite mabo tofu ramen. He said was good and looks plentiful I told him. Ask if they have a restroom but the server said sorry have to go upstairs in the hallway. I told myself not for me. I'll wait. All in all it was ok.

Haven't been to a Sumo Ramen restaurant in ages since they don't have one in Aiea or Pearl City. Always liked their menu ... We walked in and were greeted right away. I like that ! Many selections on the menu .. took us awhile to finally order. There's something for everyone.. whether you like ramen. ... udon ... crispy noodle ... curry ... spicy or not .. seafood or just vegetables in your noodles . Finally decided on the Ramen combo .. which included bowl of shoyu ramen. ... delicious fried rice and four piece gyoza . My friend also ordered Unagi rice .. shoyu ramen & gyoza combo . It was nice that we could eat and chat as it wasn't really busy on a Monday . Not a real big restaurant but nice and clean atmosphere to sit down with friends for lunch . And the service was very good as the owner came by often to check on us if everything was good or if we needed anything like more water etc. would definitely come back again for their ramen and specially the Fried rice.. It was simple but very satisfying and tasty .

    Mochiko Chicken Curry Combo

Sumo Ramen & Curry is located on the ground level of Market City Shopping Center between L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and Fujioka's Wine Times. You can dine in or get take out. I recommend calling in your take out order. It's been a long time since I ate here but one night I was craving curry but was super tired to drive far. My first choice to order take out from was unavailable. I called multiple times but the line was always busy. Hunger set in so I decided to go to Sumo Ramen & Curry. It didn't take me long to decide. I wanted curry so I immediately looked at the Curry Rice menu section. Since I couldn't remember much about my last dining experience here, I felt that ordering from the Curry Combo section was safest since it offered variety just in case I didn't like what I ordered. I decided to order their Mochiko Chicken Curry Combo. Called it in and they told me it'll be ready in 10 minutes. When I arrived about 10 minutes later, I was surprised by how busy they were. The table in front and counter was filled with take out orders. They also had a ton of people dining in. My order was ready so I paid and left. Their Mochiko Chicken Curry Combo comes with Mochiko Chicken Curry over rice, Gyoza and a bowl of Ramen/Saimin. It reminded me more of Saimin than Ramen. The portion was adequate and I was full. For some reason, I feel like this was the exact same order I ate the last time I came here lol. It was something quick and easy but I'm happy to see how busy they are. Much continued success for them!

Had lunch today at Sumo Ramen & Curry located on the backside of Mccully shopping center . Next door to L&L and Ben Franklin. I ordered their ramen , fried rice , Gyoza combo. I added deep fried Oyster for appetizers. Service was fast and friendly the Deep fried oyster was nice and hot and fresh . The won ton ramen was also very good with Gyoza can't go wrong along with fried rice . It was perfect I left with a full stomach and like us locals call it "Kanak Attack" Support local

I haven't had their ramen in a long time. Usually I don't trust places like this for ramen. It has to be a legit ramen spot. However, I will vouch for their mochiko chicken and curry with white rice $12.50. The curry from here is always on point. The yellow curry is thick and flavorful. The mochiko chicken has a slight crisp. There's a hint of sweetness to it from the batter. It's one of the best mochiko chickens that I've had. They also give a lot of chicken and white rice. The plate was filled and heavy. It would have lasted me three meals.

    Chicken katsu with sauce container

First time ordering chicken katsu to go here. First, they give a decent amount of katsu. But the amount of sauce is ridiculously small. It's maybe a 2oz cup that's maybe 3/4 full. Just enough to dip one end of each katsu stick with a slight coating. That wouldn't be so bad if the katsu were actually seasoned but it's kinda bland so you NEED the sauce. I'm really disappointed. It'll be my first and last visit.

    wonton ramen- thumbs up

Stopped here for lunch because was shopping next door at Ben Franklin. Such a big and diverse menu but just ordered the won ton ramen. Service was quick and friendly. The noodles were nice and chewy and the broth not too salty. The wontons could have used more meat in them but was okay. I saw the server walk by with the seafood crispy noodles and looked amazing. Prices are very reasonable. I will definitely return.

We came here with my parents a few weekends ago after a bon dance. It was my first time in a long time. My parents love it here at Sumo Ramen. And I can see why. The meals are pretty cheap and you get a lot of food when you order combination meals. Five out of six of us ordered combination meals. The combination meals came with ramen, fried rice, and gyoza and it was around $15! What a steal. I once went to a ramen place where just the ramen was $25. The service was right on and they came quickly to take our order and fill our waters. I ordered the won ton ramen combination. I thought the ramen was okay. I've had better tasting won ton and ramen at other places. But I liked the fried rice that came with the combination. They make the rice with peas and carrots but since my dad is a regular, he ordered it without peas and carrots. I followed his lead and did the same. I just don't think peas and carrots belong in fried rice. The rice was good. I think it was the best part of the combination meal. If you're in the neighborhood go and check out Sumo Ramen. You will be able to stretch your dollar since it's so affordable.

We ordered a chicken katsu curry, crab croquette curry, curry udon, and matcha latte. Food came quite quickly. The chicken katsu was really crispy yet tender, my crab croquette was also very crispy outside but creamy inside. The curry is a tad more intense than the other Japanese curries I've had, and the meat looks ground instead of cubed/shredded. The rice is light and fluffy! Perfect for mixing with the curry. The matcha latte was ok. At least it wasn't cloyingly sweet. At first glance the portions don't look big but it was an appropriate size for a person with normal appetite! Given that we had a late breakfast, we were full. Service was prompt and friendly. There were only three working that day; two were in the kitchen and one was serving, bussing, and cashing people out. It's a little cafe, very homey/mom-and-pop. They also sell tshirts! I didn't look very closely but I saw a Crayon Shinchan one. We parked on the street coz it was free and there were plenty open stalls at the time. I want to try their curry pan next! They had a deal for like $3-4 more to get both pork and chicken, I should've done that. The curry is pretty dark in color but deep in flavor. I told them it was for dine-in but they still put it into a takeout container, which I wasn't a fan of bc it takes away the crispiness of the tonkatsu. I definitely wish they put more curry bc it was the star of the show. The Mac salad was so bland though and tasted like empty air, definitely wouldn't order again. Growing up surrounded by all these familiarity and not the localized version of Japanese cuisine this was quite comforting and know why this place has been around while others surrounding this Moili'ili area came and gone. Hana no Sato is a cozy spot right on S King Street just before the Elementary School which is close to a busy traffic area but with lots of street metered parking it's very accessible. Dining area is quite small with many filled with regulars I understand you're able to make reservations to secure a spot is nice and great when it's important. Came here to have dinner with Terry who already has been here a few times is nice knowing that she has an idea what I'd like and gosh she sure didn't disappoint at all. Though they do have teishoku menu items many are ala carte style which is nice and shareable though I must warn you that it's quite a generous portion and the service is really fast so I'd suggest to order a few and add on as you go. We did start with Agedashi Tofu (yummy and perfect!), Chicken Karaage (Crispy and flavorful) came with a small salad, Fried Salmon (Probably my favorite) cooked crispy and seasoned to perfection, Small Sashimi Platter (Fresh and beautiful) and a couple of small sushi rolls (natto and ume cucumber). There was nothing that I didn't like all was done perfectly and fast not overly seasoned but just the right amount of flavor making it a very happy and joyful foodie experience at a place that's just simply cozy is a unique find and see why it's a favorite spot for her that we just can't gatekeep so that everyone can support this wonderful local small biz as well.
