I visited the Sunmerry Bakery in Atlantic Times Square. There's a good selection of different baked good here. Like many other bakeries, you grab a tray, a pair of tongs, and then some paper if you want. There's some breads that are unique to the chain and then a few that are dupes of breads from other bakeries as well. The front half is the bakery part, and then the registers in the back also is where the drinks are made. I ordered a boba milk tea with puff cream but it kind of tasted the same but the tea had a thicker consistency from the puff cream. Otherwise, I don't think I would have been able to tell any difference from standard milk tea drinks. There's tables set up on the side so you can sit down and enjoy your food and drinks. They also have a rewards program where you can get points to redeem $1.02 discount for every $36 you spend ($12 for every point, and then 3 points to redeem the discount). It's not great, but why not if you're buying items anyway. They have another stamp card program for the drink side of business. I walk by this place all the time when I'm going to 24 hour fitness. Decided to finally try and get a drink here. Thought it was interesting that some of these drinks come with Yakult. The place is well lit and spacious and there's a lot of food. It's pretty much a low key 85 degrees. My friend and I both got grapefruit with Yakult and it was tasty. Overall I like the vibe of this place. Service is friendly. Pastries look good as well, will have to try that next time. read more

This location is attached to the Sunmerry Bakery, which has a somewhat limited selection of Asian breads. But it is in the Atlantic complex, which has outdoor seating, so it's a convenient meet up location with friends when you want something light to eat or drink (there is also some seating inside as well, about 4 booths for 4 groups of 4-5 people). With all of the tea shops popping up, you'd think it'd be hard to find a "go-to" spot, but not for me. There's no one else that can do it better! At first, the sound of salted cheese in your green tea doesn't seem appealing. But put those negative connotations aside and be bold! Give it a try because you won't regret it, not one bit! The salted cheese can be compared to sea salt foam, similar to 85 Degrees Bakery Sea Salt Mountain Green Tea, but 1000x better. I always thought 85 Degrees' drinks contained too much ice and not enough Sea Salt, and that's when I found the perfect combinations at Sunmerry Bakery - perfect amount of ice, tea, and salted cheese!! I could go on and on about this drink, but that's not the only thing I come here for. Their breads are equally as delicious. Don't get me started about their egg tarts, pineapple cakes from Taiwan, and their Custard Danish Rolls!! Their Custard Danish Rolls are so addicting!! If I worked there, I would be so fat! They really stuff their breads with custard, and to top off the flaky pastry with an extra dose of sweetness are little crystals of sugar and powdered sugar! Amazingly delicious! And where else can you find pineapple cakes in California as good as the ones from Taiwan? Only here, so you'll know where I'll be! Another point to add to my list of reasons I rave about this bakery is their stamp card and point system. Membership is free. All you need is an email. Once you make your first purchase, there's a notification pop up on the screen asking if you want to be a member. Sign up, and you'll automatically be accumulating points for each purchase you make on your connected credit card. Super simple! Every $12 you spend is 1 point. Once you reach 3 points, you get $1.02 to use on your next purchase. With the amount of tea and bread I buy from Sunmerry, it's totally worth it. Probably one of my favorite new bakery that's equivalent to 85 Degrees. Sunmerry is from Taiwan and when I visited in the winter, I went to one so I was pretty excited that they opened one near me. It's near Daiso and OK Cafe so one day when I was at the Atlantic Times Square Plaza, I walked by it and was shocked that they opened one and there was a lot of people inside. The bread was fresh and tasted great the past couple times I been here. Some of the breads here look like 85 degree's bread such as the milk pudding one. My favorite is the pork sung bread from here and bolo bao. The bakery has Happy Lemon (which is also in Taiwan) and I haven't tried their drinks yet but in the future I will. There are plenty of parking because the structure is pretty big but on weekends, I'm pretty sure you'll probably take a while looking for parking. Lines can get pretty long the past couple times i've been here. I came on a Sunday 3pm and the line was LONG. I guess people really wanted their bread for the week. You can sign up for their rewards program where you just give them your email and for every $12 you spend, you receive 1 point and after earning 3 points, you get a reward. All in all, I'm definitely excited there's a Taiwanese bread shop that closer to me than 85 and i'll be back for more bread soon. read more

The boba is fine, it just adds a unique texture and makes for a pretty picture. As a single item, it tastes good and is worth the money. But I still prefer egg tarts from Jim's bakery and I would buy those time and time again. The boba egg tarts here are good but not great. Garlic bread: its bad. Maybe I got a bad batch, but it just felt like you are eating some very oily bread, that was kind of soggy, with SO MUCH garlic cream in the middle. Sunmerry Bakery usually has a great assortment of pastries ranging from taro bread, pork sung bread, BBQ pork bolo, ube bread, green tea croissant, etc. The options are endless! They also have a great selection of cakes as well. We stopped by this location to try the Boba Egg Tart since only select locations carried it. I really like salted cheese foam in my tea drinks and I think Happy Lemon has the best. At other places, the cheese foam is bland and given in a small quantity; at Happy Lemon, it's rich and they give a good amount (around a 1" layer). If you've never had cheese foam, I recommend that you try it here. I think it balances floral teas well, like jasmine green tea. The salted cheese taste combined with the floral tea is absolutely delicious. Happy Lemon also runs promos all of the time. I often get emails for 10% off, but they also have bogo deals every once in a while. They also have special drinks for different times of the year. For the summer, they're offering different strawberry drinks; I ordered the strawberry green tea with salted cheese and it was so good! It had a lot of strawberry chunks, which I liked, and the green tea was very floral. Since this is a combined Sunmerry Bakery + Happy Lemon, I think it's only fair if I reviewed Sunmerry Bakery as well. The breads and pastries at Sunmerry are good, but nothing special in my opinion. Sometimes I've had a pastry that I thought was just ok, like this time I purchased a black sesame mochi pastry with barely any filling inside, so I guess that's why I'm reluctant to give this overall restaurant 5 stars. read more

So to start off we drove from Sacramento literally for this place alone I raved about the pudding brioche and brought my friend to try this there was only six available and when I asked Stephanie about there possibly being more the back I received a blatant and short "no." When I asked if there was more in the middle of being made again I was met with the same response and did ask if there was a chance to possibly making more and AGAIN the blatant "no we don't make more." And walked away. Now I have had YEARS of experience in the food and customer service industry as a worker and manager. Let me explain I would absolutely NEVER allow an employee to talk to someone the way I was spoken to. It was rude and unprofessional at best. And this was my friend's first experience here. She is a baker in the town she lives in and could not fathom her employees having such a short and annoyed tones with customers. Please to anyone that "manages" this establishment please reiterate a some sort of standard of customer service before allowing the doors to open in the morning. If zero stars was a possibility I would do this due to the lack of what they perceive to be customer service alone. Will be looking at the one in temple. Overall I think their pastries and breads are really delicious! My parents love the brioche bread and I'm a fan of the green tea croissant and taro buns. I've tried their jasmine tea with salty cheese foam and it is also a winner in my eyes. Too indulgent for everyday but it makes for a great treat. They recently launched a new item: boba egg tarts! The crust is flakey while the egg custard is earl grey flavored. The tart is then topped with delicious goey boba pearls and a wafer stick. As much as I love coming here, I have to give the boba egg tarts three stars. The boba itself is full of flavor with a nice chewy texture. However the egg custard didn't live up to expectation. The early grey flavor was really subtle and the consistency wasn't as soft as I would have liked. The outer crust was delectable as usual, although the bottom was a soggy. At $6.50 for two tarts, I found it to be a bit pricey for what was offered. That said, it's definitely worth trying for yourself! read more

I have been a fan of Sunmerry bakery since I discover it in Irvine. I'm so happy that they opened two in the 626 area. I dropped by on a Monday and it was pretty empty. It located in the Atlantic Times Square plaza. It is still new so everything was nice and clean. Plenty of parking cause of the plaza lot but it does get busy. I decided to pick up two rainbow roll for my sis in law, pork sung bun for the hubby and a black tea with salted cheese for myself. My sis in law liked the rainbow roll, the hubby loved his pork sung bun cause it was so buttery and I really enjoyed my drink. I love the salted cheese which is cream cheese. I would come back for this drink more often. It was delicious. I haven't tried any of the cakes from this locations but if it comes from the same place as the other locations, it is really good. Their cakes are not too sweet and had just the right amount of fluff. They also have taro milk cake which is so good. The only sad note is that you can't buy a whole rainbow roll, you're only able to buy it by the slice. I wish in the future, we will be able to cause it easier to share with a group. Sunmerry serve cakes in slices and whole cakes. They all look really pretty. These cakes are a huge plus on my in-law side since they prefer not an overly sweet cake. I said more sugar the better but I love my sugar. They also serve lots of bread, which kind of reminds me of 85 degree bread, very similar. Also, they have a great list of drinks to try from milk tea to slushy to latte. Overall, great bakery to be added to the area. read more

The bakery in front also was eye catching with so many desserts that looked worth trying. The cashier had no idea what he was talking about. I overheard a conversation where a customer was asking what "fromage" was. The cashier raised an eyebrow and asked if he meant frappe. I jumped in and answered that customers question. I ended up getting the boba milk tea with puff cream. Wasn't thrilled. But wasn't too disappointed. It was just like regular boba tea but the milk was a bit more creamy. Their boba was odd in size as well. It wasn't the normal bobas, but it also wasn't the mini either. Guess they have an in between size?? Not too sure. The barista checked and, guess what, they didn't even start making our order. So she said, "we will call your number when it's ready". No apology, nothing! I have not gone to this exact location since I'm waiting for one to open closer to me! I did try the chocolate souffle or sponge cake, the mango Cronut, the berry cream filled bread and the powdered milk bread that looks like six mini buns stuck together. All very delicious! I gotta say the powdered milk buns were my absolute favorite. Dense but soft, just enough milk powder and I think I detected some salt in our too. Looks simple but very delicious! Unfortunately I had a horrible experience here. The cake they sell is NOT FRESH and staff are poorly trained to handle the situation. I got the last taro cake on 12/24 and brought it straight home (10mins away). Tried it 12/25 morning and the taro filling had gone spoiled. The cake was sour and disgusting . BUTT the expiration date is 12/26!!!!! This place is for HAPPY LEMONS ONLY. No sour assholes allowed! So shut the fuck up about how they ran out of Oolong tea. This is a side effect of not having a popular business and the rest of the universe revolve around you. Shit runs out sometimes. The staff here is full of sweethearts! One cashier in particular is just the cutest, most precious cherub I've ever seen in my life, with a great attitude to boot. All staff members seem to have cemented this perfect Customer Service face that is both professional and welcoming, which is an enviable skill. I come here often, and lose my stamp card frequently. Thankfully I have my membership to fall back on for perks LOL. I love the salted cheese foam, which is light and sweet and gives me problems if I don't take Lactaid pills. But that doesn't stop lactose intolerant people at all. Not with that taste! The coffee brioche, regular brioche, and croissants are very shareable and perfect with coffee or tea from any place. The WiFi here is strong, their random YouTube playlists play a wide variety of tracks I enjoy, and there are outlets! I wish I could live here. Overall, every aspect of the store comes together beautifully and keeps me looking forward to return trips. Please take all of my money. Finally decided to update my review from the disastrous previous visits. Happy to report that no flies were on site, and the display cases were mostly fully stocked. As I was browsing, a new batch of ube bread came out as well. Service is good. Everyone kept busy. When I was in line to pay at the register, the lady in front of me was taking her time looking at the refrigerated display case despite already having her other items rung up. Instead of rushing that customer or making me wait, the worker simply started up the other register and rung me up. I appreciated that because I know that (in general) workers can get in trouble for accessing a register that isn't assigned to them. As for the actual pastries, they feel and taste different from other chains. I enjoy whatever it is they're doing, but it's definitely a matter of personal taste. read more
