I actually like their food but I really don't like the way they operate. I get emails about special deals all the time but when you go in they find creative ways to not honor them. For instance I just went in at 3pm for their buy one get one free fruit tea. They said they ran out of green tea? Huh? And then when I asked for black tea instead they said they ran out of black tea? Yet they were still making milk tea drinks? Clearly they just didn't want to honor the deal and were still happy to take customers money that foolishly went thinking the deal was on. Oh yum, much tastier than 85 degrees, the bread is much more flavorful - will have to try the cakes, though! I bought mostly sweet and savory buns and had I had more time in town would have tried more things. I wonder how their cake compares to Tous Les Jours, which I do think is the best so far for Asian bakery chains (not Paris Baguette and def not 85). Hope they make their way more towards the east coast soon! read more

I will officially never come back. This is the second time they've forgotten to add boba to my drink. When you pay extra for something and you don't get it, it's disappointing to say the least. It takes forever for them to make your drinks too. Something's always wrong when I order drinks from here. I have been here twice and have tried majority of their breads. I am a fan! My favorite is the black sesame mochi, black sesame filled bread and the milk pudding bread. I finally had a chance to try this bakery and came back the next day with my mom to try it again because it was so good! It was pretty empty around mid-morning and we were able to browse their selections before making our choices without having to wait in line. I also tried their dalgona coffee and vietnamese iced coffee (not pictured) and they were both tasty and strong. The workers were very friendly and the drinks came out quickly. I was most surprised that 4 pastries and a coffee only cost $12 with tip. I'll be coming back to try their other baked goods soon! read more

I came to Sunmerry on Friday to get those cream-filled donuts they always had! I am so bummed they replaced it with Mochi Donuts! I don't like mochi donuts, it never satisfies me. I wished they still offered the original donuts they had because that was the one thing that stood out that I would always be excited to get! Because of that, there is no reason for me to come back. I might as well go to 85C across the way to Target with more selection. At least 85 C doesn't pull away my favorites. Until those cream donuts come back, I am not coming back! Everything else I can get at 85 C...The cakes are just average I tried a few of them before they are either dry or have no real flavor. Again 85 C tastes better and I don't go to 85 C as much as I used to. Please bring those creamed donuts back! I think it's a mistake to force customers to only have a choice of mochi donuts. Why would I drive all the way to get mochi donuts at Sunmerry when I can go elsewhere to specialize it on Convoy? At least give us an option between both donuts. Came here twice during their soft opening with my husband. We were hoping that this location would have the Mochi donuts but we didn't see any. We both ended up signing up for the rewards on different visits for the free Hokkaido cake. I also bought strawberry cream cake, cream brioche donut, and the hubby got the ham and cheese pastry. My first visit I came for the Japanese cheesecake and taro smoothie. My favorite has to be the Hokkaido cake. I LOVE the cream filling inside and even though it's in a sponge cake, which I hate, I actually liked it in this. Mine was mostly filled with that heavenly cream. It was cool, light and lightly sweetened which I love about Asian bakeries that don't overdo it on the sweetness. I had originally bought the cream brioche donut for myself but my husband ended up eating it. He said it was okay but he's not very descriptive or discerning with food. The strawberry cream cake was nice and light also. The whipped cream inside was also light and sweet. It was filled with a strawberry jam plus fresh berries that my toddler ate whom the cake was mainly for. The Japanese cheesecake was delightful, too. Nicely airy and fluffy yet surprisingly crumbly like a dry cake. It was moist and not dry. A different experience for me but pleasant. The taro smoothie was nice but wouldn't rival other places that also use taro powder mix. Price wise, it's similar to 85°C Bakery but with their soft opening, we were able to take advantage of the 10% discount. It's also smaller inside than its rival bakery, so with a crowd the space would be tight. We went in the earlier morning with only a few people inside. I'll have to come back to try the cakes and the cream brioche donut myself. read more

Located at the newer shopping center directly across the street from target and their competitor 85 we were excited to check out this new bakery and boba spot! The pastries were good very- similar to 85. Pricing was fair. I loved their boba drinks! The menu is a bit more innovative they had black sesame drink which I will try next time! I opted for the strawberry matcha with boba. It came with crushed iced my favorite and bits of berries so so good! Boba was cooked with a nice chewy punch! My kids loved it too! I actually found this place after checking out bafang dumpling. Located in the same building at the opposite corner. Private parking lot. You get a tray and tongs and serve yourself. There's a bunch of wrapped up bake goods, desserts, and cakes. They also have beverages(forgot to take menu photo). I liked the bbq bolo. Japanese cheese cake was ok. Not that sweet but I think thats the way it's supposed to be and tasted a little dry. Will have to come back and try the other foods. read more

The bread is a cross between 85c and Paris bakery. It's good, but the customer service sucks. I came across a smart mouth cashier. The place is small. I ordered boba tea. My first time there so I asked where to pick up the drinks. Cashier rolled his eyes and said "like any coffee shop" and pointed to his right. Bad attitude. I wanted to slap him. I spent $25 there and had to hear his rude comment. Why? Because I'm a little brown on the outside? Was I not welcomed? I've been waiting for Sunmerry Bakery to open since they first announced it and am so glad that it opened. I came here around 4 pm on a Saturday and there were a decent amount of people inside browsing. They were also handing out samples of their strawberry chiffon cake. We ended up getting two creme brulee cream puffs, which were $3 each. Since they had a soft opening, everything was 10% off and we even got a free Hokkaido Chiffon Cream cake. The creme brulee cream puffs were good. I liked the crackly brulee top that it had and the cream inside was semi-frozen, like ice cream. I'll definitely be back to try their other pastries like their brioche donut, matcha croissant, and conchas! TLDR: new Asian bakery with yummy offerings! read more

First time here last evening (7pmish) Spent $65. Items are more expensive then 85*. Almost all the shelves cleared but alot in the fridge (center consoles). Much smaller then the other bakeries. Zero seating inside. I asked the cashier if they had anymore of a certain item but she cut me off before I finished talking. She rang up my items put the receipt on the box and walked away. Great little bakery with an excellent selection of pastries. It's a familiar format with grabbing your own tray and tongs to pick your favorites; the hard part is stopping yourself from getting everything! The bakery is very popular, haven't seen it without a line on the weekend. They have it nicely organized though and moves the crowd through pretty smoothly. Only challenge is that if you've missed something going back is not a great option... so if you think you like it, just grab. Don't worry you won't be disappointed. The pastries are all excellent. Soft, flaky, and tasty! The mark of their excellence though is the white bread... I know it's white bread how great can it be? Well it's the subtle excellence that they put in to the bread that makes it stand out... They also have a great selection of cakes, that are fluffy and delicious. They're a bit of a premium, but worth it for that special occasion. My recommendation grab some of that white bread and make yourself a フルーツサンド (Japanese Fruit Sandwich). Bolo pork bun had absolutely no pork in it.. which is fine.. maybe they put the wrong bun in the wrong place.. but the bun itself is totally lacking. Absolutely no flavor, the crunchy topping was minimal and soft. The buns with movhi in it tasted like raw filling. Onion bun was flat. Asked for a hot coffee and asked if there was cream and sugar and the barista had to add it but didn't bother to ask how much. Now I'm stuck with a 7/11 tasting coffee that a 7 year old Bobby would have made with 25 packets of sugar. Many places have BBQ pork buns...all vying for top bun. Sunmerry's BBQ pork bun is called a BBQ pork bolo. It's very good. It has some sweetness, and the bread is very soft. I'm marking points off for how it deflates though and becomes squished. It became almost flat when I cut it into fourths to split! I would still return for this bun though. read more

Came to visit here on a Saturday. Unfortunately, I had to experience the long line getting inside the bakery. About 15 minutes before I got to the main entrance and another 15 minutes to pay my baked goods I bought. When I came inside, I didn't see much bread selections compare to 85 degree bakery. During my visit, it was all different croissants and some frozen bread, cakes and milk tea on tbeir menu. The store is a bit small and that's why it can get crowded when it is busy. There are only 2 cashier counter to cater for so many customers and that's the reason why it can get packed and slow the process of paying. The brown sugar boba was super tasty and right taste. The croissants were really delicious and fresh. It is still soft after 3 days. Also, I tried their best seller Hokkaido cake pops, super like it due to its creamy filling, soft bread and amazingly delish. Overall, happy with the freshness and quality of the bread even though it was a bit pricey from 85 degree bakery. I live in Chula Vista. It's a bit drive to get there. However, if you are near the area, it's a must try. Hoping we can get the same bakery in the Chula Vista area. read more

Outstanding Bakery my niece took me a while I had visit her from Tennessee enjoyed their pastries and their Boba milk

I'm obsessed with their green onion bread. I could literally come here every day just for that. It's perfectly soft, sweet, and salty. My only wish would be for each bread to have a little more green onion because the center is the best part with all of the green onions and the outside you only get one green onion here and there. It's still very good, but I usually alternate bites between the inside and outside to make sure it feels balanced while eating. Their pork sung bread is also one of my favorites. They don't skimp on the pork floss like 85C where most of the bread is mayo, so it feels like you're really biting into a layer of pork floss. I found the black sesame filled donut to be too heavy. The bolo and ube concha were alright. I wouldn't get them again. The ham and egg bread was interesting, but the ham was too thick in my opinion. This bread is better reheated at home as opposed to on the go. The chicken and cheddar bread is kind of like the Costco chicken bake, but I wish they cooked it longer so the cheese could melt more inside the bread. Again, this bread was better reheated instead of eaten on the spot. Their sea salt green tea is very good. The tea flavor is strong and refreshing. There's been a line the past couple of times I've come, but it moves pretty quickly. They're currently having their soft opening, so everything is 10% off which is nice, but things also sell out mid-day as a result. There's plenty of parking because this store is in a huge plaza. Also there are some outdoor tables nearby if you want to eat there. read more
