Hands down one of my favorite sushi spots! Food is so fresh and the service is so friendly and are super attentive. My favorite roll is the White Roll. It's lightly deep fried and has I believe a spicy crab with two types of sauce and a pile of spicy tuna in the middle of the plate. It's absolutely HEAVEN! It's a pretty casual sushi place. Went back this evening to meet 4 classmates I haven't seen since 1983. Two girls wanted nothing to od with the sushi and ordered the chicken teriyaki plates. Both agreed it was just 'meh'. So, I'd suggest stepping it up in that department. However, I tried the S.O.F. & the Refreshing roll....I must say, I am in love. Both completely different rolls. The Refreshing is just that. I tasted fresh lemon and the spicy warmth of jalapeño and what I believe to be ponzu. Excellent! And the S.O.F. is just a mess of creamy something with smelt and avocado which means its yum. It was soooo sinful. I'd order both again. Friday, the place is hopping. You will wait but the sushi is worth it. It got a little loud so I wouldn't suggest it for a date unless it was a 3rd date and you planned talking less & cuddling more. read more

HELLO KITTY hand roll - Tuna, salmon, crab meat, avocado, and shrimp tempura hand roll in a rice paper wrap. When I saw the pics on Yelp it looked amazing, but was worried it would just look cool and not taste that great. but this is a must try for all fish lovers!!!! Soooo good! Checked out Sushi on Fire on a Thursday night. Great location in Belmont Shores right on the corner of a street with a lot of cute shops and restaurants. My friend and I were promptly seated, but had we been a party of 4 or larger we would have had a small wait. We tried the spicy edamame as an appetizer, which was DELICIOUSSSSS. It's not all that spicy, more salty, but they sort of sear them and it gives it a great flavor. I'll be honest, there were a bunch of things that sounded delicious, but the menu left wayyy too many rolls to choose from. It was like a Cheesecake Factory menu without the ads. And when you take a closer look at the differences between some of the rolls, it's only a minor difference (ex: one had masago on top, the other did not). I would have appreciated if the menu was whittled down a little more for my simple, yet neurotic mind. Opted for Ken's Special which was BOMB, and a few simpler rolls (Rainbow Roll, etc.). The fish was fresh and tasty. Service was awesome, the food was served promptly and our glasses were always refilled without us asking. We also found street parking pretty easily. Been going to sushi on fire for over 10 years and always loved it. My last two visits were disappointing. The quality has dropped and we didn't even finish our meal. As my wife an I are happy they are open covid it is no longer an excuse for bad service or less then acceptable food. We will be back with hopes they read this and bring their game back. This place is fantastic! So great that we came TWICE during our week long vacation to Long Beach. Located in the Belmont area, this place is packed but in a good way. We had the Scorpion, Sexy Roll, Hello Kitty Hand Roll, Animal Style roll, and Buzzy and ALL of them were fresh and tasty. I can see how people like the environment but I don't understand the huge raves about the food. I went there on a Wednesday afternoon and had the salmon sushi, scallop sushi, oysters, and a Philadelphia roll. Basically, since I was trying this place for the first time, I wanted to order the same fish & rolls that I've ordered at other places so I could compare fairly. The rice was undercooked and required excessive chewing, the scallops were served with so much salt on top it was overbearing, the oysters were good but the spice overshadowed the sea salt flavor so that was a bit disappointing, and the Phili roll and salmon were tasteless. Ultimately the fish was tasteless and the rice wasn't well prepared. I won't be back, Sushi Ai is a much better spot. read more

Yessss!! This place is amazing! I've never seen so many varieties at a sushi place. After finding this place based on Yelp reviews, of course we had to try the refreshing roll. Really fresh, full of fish. Amazing. I think next time we'll order it without the sesame oil on top, that really overpowered the other flavors. We also tried the lobster roll, rainbow roll and philadelphia roll. Standard prices $10-$12 for everyday type rolls. $14-$15 for super fancy rolls. Only criticism I have - the waiting staff was pretty slow. We didnt come on a super busy night so not sure what the deal was. My lobster roll didnt come out until after we were done with all the other rolls! I'm aware this is a specialty roll and takes time to cook etc, but I would rather wait for all of them to come then to eat, wait, and eat again. We will most likely come here again! read more

However when the bill came, the waitress gave us a choice of given her 18%, 20% (default) or 22% tip while staring me down as I made the choice. Usually love this place and was a regular for takeout during the pandemic but last night we ordered our usual sashimi assortment for takeout. The fish was 100% old. Amazing sauce and topped with fresh lemon slices and jalapeños. Toro- Usually buttery and melt in your mouth Skip on the teriyaki and calamari here, I stick to ordering sushi only here and haven't liked anything cooked or fried. 4 stars because the sashimi plates are inconsistent based on what sushi chef is working and what time of day you visit. Seems like every time the plate looks different, last time we had no avocado on the plate and the previous time we did. Otherwise, my top choice for sushi on 2nd street. read more

I'm not big on eating raw fish (I'll usually stick to sushi with shrimp); however, they have a roll called the Refreshing Roll, which is exactly what it sounds like....refreshing! This roll has three types of raw fish and a sliver of lemon and jalapeño on the top. There was about a twenty minute wait last night for a group of three which is fine. When we were seated the waiter just told us where to go, didn't walk us over...a little odd. Took awhile for them to bring menus. Drinks came out fast but then they didn't come back to take our order for a long time. We ordered the Philadelphia roll (basically flavorless). Skip this item. The 911 roll (this one was pretty good. Has a little bit of chili oil. And good amount of fish.) the galaxy roll. (It's a baked roll...took a long time to receive it. After we are most of the other rolls). The refreshing roll was the best! (It has cilantro, jalapeños, and a citrusy kick to it). The service was just all over the place. We ordered another galaxy roll. After waiting about 15 minutes we asked them to just pack it to go and give us the check. Had to flag another person down because they didn't bring the check. Then had to check up on the roll for the second time and then finally they gave it to us. For the price and the small location, the bad service, I would much rather go to ten other sushi places. read more
