This review is a combination of our experiences from Rickshaws to Sushi One. We tried it off of a whim one day when Hiroba (now moved to Sparks and not as strong as before) was packed. Off the bat we were seated quickly and I felt the rolls came out in a timely manner despite the amount of people there. After going a dozen more times as it became Sushi One the visits were consistently really good (rolls are a little sauce heavy which I enjoy) with only a few "ok" times. Our last visit was good, we were the first in at 11am and were seated quickly. We could tell they just opened and were still prepping as even the wait staff took a bit to get drinks. But, the food was on point and rich in flavor. There was a little delay in rolls coming but once it started it was great. This has become our go to spot for sushi and we live in Spanish Springs and drive in. Yes there are closer places but not as good as here. read more

Just wanted to provide an update. The sushi chefs are really good and are now making the sushi consistently amongst each chef. The service has always been great and the food is fresh. They don't have as much selections compared to other sushi spots in town. For us, that doesn't matter. We love certain rolls and that's what matters. This is definitely our go to spot in Reno. They seem to be fully staffed and the food comes out quickly. I definitely recommend this place. You should try them out!! read more

Went in on a whim for lunch, honestly just figured we would grab a couple of hand rolls since we were in a crunch for time. It was a great surprise that there were lunch specials. 1 long roll, 1 order of nigiri, a 2 piece appetizer and a cup of miso soup. 10.95 or 12.95 depending on what long roll you ordered. The deal got even better with the option of adding a second roll for 3 extra bucks. For me personally the 1 long roll is plenty. Our wait staff was very courteous and kind. Gave them another chance and I can say I won't be back anymore. The young Filipino kid who wear skinny jeans gave us a bad vibe. When bringing our sushi to our table, he just rudely dropped it on our table and walked off without telling us which is which, my wife and I looked at each other like, WTF!. My wife and I paid very close attention to him and saw how nicely he treated a Caucasian family and a couple. We figure he only did that because he might get a good tip from them but that's very typical of Filipinos kissing A$$ to Caucasian. FYI, treat every customer the same and don't discriminate. The asian man was very nice and seated us right away, bringing the water to us very quickly. The lovely Asian lady is quick taking our order sheet. The mussels was not fresh and was old getting rotten. There was a stanky taste when chewing on it and was very rubbery. The sushi chef is not devoted or dedicated to making the sushi correctly. The first time I order the salmon skin salad was DELICIOUS and crispy with a little drizzle of sauce on it. When I ordered it again is was different and was all mixed together making the salmon skin not crispy and gross, some salmon skin was not fried correctly making it just slimy, gelatinous and soggy. GROSS!!! The sushi was poorly made by a horrible chef. Fish would not stay on the sushi when trying to dip in the soy sauce, the nigiri all had different size rice, more rice then fish ratio. One of the roll was supposed to come with tempura shrimp inside but this A-HOLE decided to put calamari instead and act like I wouldn't find out. Price gone up with horrible sushi chef that can care less on how they make the sushi for the customer. Sorry but not sorry! read more

Our chef was pretty quiet and not very talkative and we were the only people in there. Their variety of rolls are pretty good but the cuts and presentation of the rolls were mediocre. Service was very good so I'll give them that. We also got to enjoy free sake so that was also a plus. Just not as good as our normal sushi spot. read more

I haven't been here since it was rickshaw and a friend highly recommended it. I'm so glad I went! This place is right by Olive Garden. Walking in the place it felt a little cramped and the table they sat us at felt super tiny but i didn't care I was hungry. The decorations were very festive and warm and that made me feel at home. Dinner was only 23.95 for AYCE & the menu was pretty big but I quickly knew what I wanted. Anything with salmon and cream cheese I'm sold and they had a lot of items with those ingredients both cooked and raw. I was surprised at how quickly the food came out! I wasn't even finished with the appetizers (yakiton, tempura jalapeños, muscles and calamari) and they had the sushi rolls coming out. It's very rare when a sushi place can keep up with my orders and they were right on top of it! I tried all different kids is rolls and I was impressed by all, which is also very rare. Overall this place was quick had good food good service and had a good ambiance. I will definitely be back and hope if you haven't gone, you will soon. read more

Exceptionally mediocre. We saw their $19.95 special and thought it would be a good way to full the sushi craving without two AYCE lunches. Sure there is quantity in this deal but the quality is far from being present. Frankly, we have had grocery store sushi that was better. Call me old fashioned, but Sake (salmon) is not supposed to have bones in it. Not only was there a bone in the Sake nigiri, but also in the Salmon Blossom. Unacceptable. Another thing that turned me off and will eliminate any chance of returning was the sign in the restaurant "Only two Nigiri with AYCE". I am sorry, but for the most part we do not order a lot of rolls when we go out and order primarily nigiri, many times 12-15 orders (split between two) of Sake, Hamachi and Unagi. read more

My review is strictly based on my experience ordering lunch to go. I was in the area and in need of lunch so searched Yelp and found this place. Average of 4 stars...it must be good, but I have to unfortunately disagree. I ordered a lunch special, which included 1 appetizer (I chose the mussels), 1 long roll (snow mountain), 1 order nigiri (salmon) and miso soup. The mussels were so over cooked and rubbery I could hardly eat it. The snow mountain roll was just ok...a little bland, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a dip in soy sauce. The salmon nigiri tasted fresh, but again bland without soy sauce. The miso soup was nice and hot and tasty. The service when calling in my order and picking up my order was good. I used to come here, but service is snail speed, and you don't get all your rolls you order. Quality went downhill, fish is not fresh but smells very fishy(old fish), and Horrible owner is looking down on people just because he has an establishment and thinks he is better, such an incompetent person. The owner couldn't handle a 1 star review on Google and replied backed rudely and disrespectful. Those types of owners are the ones that people shouldn't support his establishment. Sushi one's sushi is not bad great serving for this economy and price but here's my biggest issue. I went with a party of 3, 2 all you can eat and 1 a la carte, this person got a la carte since they weren't feeling that well. Anyways, the whole time the whole staff was literally watching us all service to make sure we don't share, at one point the person with a la carte grabbed some ginger from our plate and some immediately came and scolded us for sharing even though we were waiting for an order. We were watched and I get it the idea but it was so uncomfortable that I don't think I can ever go again. Please let us eat in peace, while it could've been a good experience that really ruined for us it was just plain uncomfortable and awkward. Do better read more

I went there many times since the take over by the new owner and this is my first review for this place SUSHI ONE is the best for me and my wife so far. It is a nice little place and the employees are very nice and professional, especially Jay the sushi chef. We love to sit at the bar and we never had to order anything Jay always surprise us with some new menu unless we want some for the menu. I have tried many of the sushi restaurants in the reno area and this one was recommended to me by someone whose opinion I really trust. As a gluten free chef, sushi is one of my go-tos and while I usually can't put away enough to justify buying all you can eat, I look for the basics: fresh, expertly cut fish; good texture and seasoning on the rice; selection of gluten free rolls (no krab, tempura or dark prepared sauces) and the chef's ability to prepare an excellent sashimi plate. Ok... maybe not so basic, but gluten free soy sauce is a standard these days, as well. The reason this place didn't get a better review from me is that I was so strongly encouraged to order the all you can eat, that I felt uncomfortable. The rolls the chef made my gluten eating friend looked amazing! Over the top, really. The sashimi was well prepared (nice thin slices) and the customized roll I ordered was ok... definitely not great, though. I didn't feel well accommodated for and sushi is one of my favorite things because of how accessible it can be: made to order. All in all it was a decent place, I liked the decor but the chef's customer service wasn't good enough for me to accurately review the food. Something of a let down. read more

Went here tonight hoping for a good meal. Unfortunately it took an hour to receive our food and once we did, my husband had an allergic reaction. We specified that he was allergic to shellfish and we were very careful with what we ordered. We always are mindful when we eat sushi and he's never had an issue. This time it was not the case. We specifically asked if the dumplings had shellfish and the server said she was sure they did not and they only had imitation crab. We explained this to one of the gentleman that was serving and he charged us extra for the food we didn't eat. My husband even apologized to them for having to leave as he's having trouble breathing due to his allergic reaction!!! Not only did he get sick and was not able to eat anything else because he did now know what was causing the reaction, we ended up having to pay extra. HE WAS STILL HUNGRY BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO BREATH!!! It was myself, him and our daughter and we spent about $135 on food he got sick from and we couldn't even finish eating because he was getting such a bad reaction we had to leave immediately. Very poor service on their behalf and I'm so overly frustrated because he is still coping with the side effects of his reaction to the food. We specifically asked what was in certain items to be cautious. This is not ok. We should report this. We should not have had to pay extra for him to get sick! This is not OK!! Please note that I am usually prone to good reviews only, I usually don't say anything if I can't say something nice about a place. This cannot go unsaid. My husband was sick for days afterwards. Small sushi restaurant with some really good rolls. If you are a big muscles fan then this place is also good for you because they have some great ones. Nigiri is pretty average with the salmon and unagi being above average for sure. However, big bummer that the unagi is limited, smaller appetizer list, no mochi, and lots of rice on their nigiri. Looks like they took over two spots. We sat at the bar which is always great when you have your chef. The spot was a little strange as I had a pole/building support next to me. If you are not planning on being social that might be the ideal spot for you. Food Drinks - Just water unless you count the quall egg shooter that we used to finish out the lunch. Lunch - Staying with a Reno tradition an All You Can Eat sushi place. So two the rolls that stuck out to me was the first one and a chef special. The Sushi One had a nice little heat to it. I can see the heat level varying with the use of jalapenos. I also liked what the chef made for us, it was buffalo chicken style roll, really tasty. You need to check out the picture on that one. Sushi pier was close that day so my wife's friend decided to try out this one since it was 4th of July after all. I saw the menu and the prices for all you can eat sushi was not too bad $17.95 for lunch and you get the whole menu. The crystal shrimp they had a lot on the menu and decided to try it and it was pretty good. They have a lot of selection of the rolls as well and interesting names like the Pokemon roll, the Disney roll and Donald Duck Roll. The rolls were just okay. Dessert you get a choice of a Sundae for Vanilla or Green tea. The food comes out in a decent amount of time. Now for the all you can eat sushi would I come back here again, maybe and that is because I may want to give it another chance as I had a buffet the day before. read more

When I left Reno 15 years ago there were multiple "All You Can Eat" sushi restaurants. Most are either gone or have changed hands, but a few remain. Sushi One is a new one and pretty well organized. Service was good. Of course the bar was closed, but there are several booths and tables and the place is kind of cheery (?). They also have AYCE, and I went over the lunch hour. For $20 you get several appetizer choices (as many as you want!), entrees (any kind of Sushi on the menu), plus a got a bowl of ice cream for desert. I tried numerous variations of sushi, and it was all pretty good. The fried (cooked) items were a bit greasy, and the sushi tasted pretty fresh, but it was just OK. It appears that Sushi One is part of chain, and that's reflected in their food a bit (if that makes sense). Of course you can order individual items too, but there was no one eating there that I observed that ordered off the menu. Is it worth stopping? Of course! All the sushi you can eat for $20? After a day of snowboarding, we were craving sushi. After reading reviews we decided to go with Sushi One. Originally I called in for a party of 10 and was told by a lady that I should come/ call after 7:30pm/8 since they were so busy. Walking in at 7pm, I asked for seats for 10 and the manager? Was able to accommodate seats for my party of 10 next to each other. This was confusing since the lady had told me something else but everything was smooth afterwards. Great service, kids meals were big in quantity and yummy. We decided to order the popular rolls and so glad we did. The Triple S roll was the hit of the night and I'm so glad I tried the quail egg shot...this got me hooked now. I was invited to Sushi One for lunch, very clean, welcoming decor, the staff was slow to respond which is why it got 4 out of 5 stars. I have been here now 3 times in the last couple weeks and experienced the same each visit with staff. The salmon Skin salad is very good, though I have had different variations each visit, the first time was the best of 3 visits. The menu has a lot of options and the sushi is fresh, very tasteful each time. The price for lunch is very fair, which is a plus. Was able to get in and out in a reasonable about on time, could be better with staff more attentive. I have encountered a hard situation knowing that the waiters take forever to bring us our food and didn't even know which roll was which. We didn't get all of our drinks and just forgot about us. They charged us extra for muscles and not really checking the bill knowing we were all you can eat. It was fixed but still lack of attention towards your customers is frustrating. This is my favorite Sushi Place in Reno NV! I'm originally from here and it's where I first tried Sushi! However when I first came it had different owners and was known as RICKSHAW. The sushi here is so fresh, and every roll has its own flavor! If you love Cream Cheese, try the Happy! If your a Fan of Spivey, you won't go wrong with the MACHO! Now, if your a first timer the sushi roll to try is " CRYSTAL SHRIMP, it's a simple roll that consists of Crystal Shrimp and cucumber! But is a mouthwatering burst of flavor! Service is fast and friendly. The Kids menu is well detailed as well. The atmosphere is small, romantic but can also be casual. Disappointed. Was our go to place but since they've reopened post COVID, we have had poor service. This all culminated in our most recent experience 3 weeks ago. We have been there at least 10 times in the past year. This was the first time that we were told some our our food was held to "not overwhelm you" or "you have too much." We are used to multiple waiters coming and going but a 30 ish male waiter decided to bring our slip back and tell us that he "held some things because you ordered a lot and you get charged for the things you don't eat " This was our second round and this is normally where we stop. But he made that decision that we didn't know what we were doing and clearly didn't have money to cover potential left over sushi. So then we sat. We sat for an additional 24 minutes since he forgot to put the order in. Then a female waiter who sees us there all the time asked if we were waiting for food. We said yes and she went to check and it showed as not in. So she submitted it. 8 minutes later a male waiter asked if we waiting and we said yes. Then he went to check. They figured out at minute 21 that the printer was broken for the sushi chefs. Pretty much the one waiter made a decision that was wrong and kept us at the restaurant an additional 35 minutes. He should have been counseling the table behind us who ordered tons of mussels and nigiri and left it on the table! I am still appalled at being treated like a child in a place that I frequent. It's sad because I'll miss the Mr. M roll but I refuse to have such poor service. The best part is he saw us sitting there and did everything to avoid us because he knew he was wrong. read more
