The fresh spring rolls come cut into thirds which was an interesting touch. I didn't love that their spring roll has some crunchy component in it. I absolutely love this place. came here with a friend after a long day at work and this meal was exactly what I needed. The restaurant is warm and cozy, with plenty of tables and seating. We got seated right away, and the interior aesthetic is simple + minimalistic. The menu isn't excessively long and prices were very reasonable. The staff were very kind and sweet, and our food came ridiculously fast, within 5-10 minutes. we ordered the chicken pho, combination pho, and spring rolls as an appetizer: - pho: HUGE portion size, there was no skimping out on the noodles or the meat. the noodles were on the thinner side but so soft they melted in your mouth. The meat was thinly sliced and not chewy at all. Broth was warm and rich, and the pho came with plenty of bean sprouts, basil and green onions, which I love. - spring rolls: 2 very incredibly large spring rolls that are sliced into 6 pieces total. There was a lot of filling but that definitely made it harder to pick up and easier to spill out. I really want to like Tanglad since it's so convenient in the Castro, but on both our visits, the food has been so disappointing. Our first visit, we tried the pho and the broth was lukewarm, thin, and salty. Beef was overcooked and dry. Our recent visit, we tried the vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls, and the meat was again dry (how is your pork dry?), and the 3 rolls were little stumpy nubs of chewiness. The nuoc mam was watery, and uf, it just didn't work at all. The garlic noodles lacked any garlic flavor and seemed to immediately disappear into a lake of oil. Normally it's an oily dish, to be fair, but there's usually a flavor payoff. Instead, it tasted like a poor rendition of chow mein. The grilled chicken we got with the garlic noodles were...dry (there's a theme here), and the skin of the chicken had already waved goodbye and stayed behind on the grill. Don't be tempted by Tanglad's convenience, and head into the Mission to Thanh Tam II. It's worth the walk! read more

There is an indoor seating with open windows to see people walking by. The servers we had were really nice. The tables were really clean, but there are a few flies hovering around the food. The exterior seating has an elegant plant display on the wall. It brings out the rainforest vibe. The food I had ordered was bun rieu. I think a lot of their menu items are less than $18.00 which is surprising considering that San Francisco is an expensive city. The food was quite affordable and the portions were huge. I did not finish the bun rieu but it was delicious, although I thought it was odd that they included some giant shrimps in the dish. One of the most beloved Asian food in the Castro, focus heavily on Vietnamese food. You really have to try out their Pho, great portion, generous with protein. BUT my highly recommended dish is def the garlic noodle, you can pick different protein. It was just so heavenly garlicky enough that might still able to go on a date with tha breath. Joke aside, try it, you will love it. The spring rolls and egg rolls are my fav apps here depend on the weather cause we know how SF is lol. For example, I'd eat at Kevin's Noodle House and order from Miss Saigon before ordering from Tanglad. Quality of the food and taste are not on par with the two aforementioned. I ordered on Uber Eats and noticed they had slightly smaller portions than Miss Saigon's uber eats. I visited Tanglad with a big group of friends and my dog. I was worried that we could not eat here with my dog, but thankfully, they had a covered patio area where my dog could join us. We got seated right away, with half of us inside and the other half out on the patio. The place had a nice casual vibe, but it smelled amazing and smoky. For my meal, I went with the Combo Plate with garlic noodles (a $2 addon), and it was delicious. The garlic noodles were hands down the best I've ever had--they had a lot of flavor by themselves, unlike other places where they just taste a little like garlic. The grilled pork chop was also excellent, with a perfect char and sauce flavor. The chicken wings were crispy and juicy, although I found they lacked flavor on their own and needed a dip in the fish sauce. The imperial roll was okay, it basically just a small egg roll with taro in it. I also tried some of my boyfriend's Combination banh mi--it was pretty good, with a really nice crusty bread. However, it was on the smaller side, and I wished there was more meat. Service-wise, it was decent--nothing special or bad about it. A solid Vietnamese restaurant that gives you few dish options but each option is stellar in its own ways. FOOD The dishes here are spectacular. My friends and I ordered 3 phos and 1 garlic noodle. The phos' broth is insanely good. It's just the right amount of saltiness and seasoning to make you want more but it doesn't make you dread for water as soon as you step out the door. All 3 phos has good amount of meat in it and what I liked mine (Bun Rieu) is that it had good amount of veggies in the soup as well. On top of that, since the Bun Rieu was tomato based, it did not taste acidic at all! Highly recommend if you are someone who gets acidic easily. We also ordered the Thai Iced Tea as well. It was sweetened to the right amount and doesn't make you feel like you're drinking corn syrup from the nozzle. SERVICE The service overall is pretty decent. The servers never check up on us during our meal. We had to wave them down to get some waters. On top of that, we ordered Vietnamese coffee that didn't come out until the end of our meal. We had to go to next door's coffee shop to get an actual coffee cup to take the coffee to go. ALL IN ALL, this is a solid Vietnamese food spot with great selections. Do make sure to ask for your drinks to be prepped well before your food arrives! We ordered the pork chop combination platter #33 combo rice platter, to go and the papaya and shrimp salad. When we got home the pork chop was burnt, the chicken wing was overcooked. This was not edible and I'm surprised they actually put it in the box. I called up Tanglad and they offered to refund but couldn't since we paid cash. They offered a new combination platter. We are only 5 min away but what if we weren't? This is absolutely not how to run a business. The papaya shrimp salad only had 3 small shrimps inside - that too was disappointing. Okay Parking, it's not ideal but I have always found a spot within a block or two of the strip. As for the space it's not overly crowded, but you can expect the dinning space to get busy given that it's a nice option for anyone that wants to dine after 8pm. As for my meal, I ordered to much food, but did enjoy a Grilled Lemongrass Beef Sandwich tonight that was tasty, and packed with meat and veg.
