Stopped in for the first time in many years, and it did not disappoint. I actually really enjoyed that they moved over to a self-ordering system by table QR code, as the more casual process is appealing to me. The food came out fast, and was extremely flavorful. You can really tell just by the way the chefs inside are tossing around their sizzling woks that they know what they're doing, and that you're going to get an authentically delicious meal. I'd say that it's actually one of my favorite pad see ews in the city, and I've had a lot of pad see ew. To make it all better, they're very accommodating of food allergies, and I've never had an issue as a celiac who avoids gluten. Their bakery indoors also has some of the best gluten free and allergy accommodating desserts in the city as well. read more

Rice balls had great crunch and just enough flavor! Loved the dipping sauce with came with. We also had the coconut shrimp fritters. Delicious! Beware the dipping sauce it comes with, it's pretty spicy! But we loved it. I had the green curry fried rice. I added chicken and a scrambled egg to it. It was definitely a good choice and not too much spice. We also tried the spicy basil fried rice and added the pork belly. The pork belly was perfectly crunchy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. We would have liked it to be a bit more spicy. I'm not sure how I feel about the "order online" structure they have. We needed water, silverware, napkins and even just to tell someone about our food would have been nice. The food is so so good here! The only thing that stops me from giving it 5 stars is that it leans a little on the expensive side (compared to other casual Thai places) and it's sort of a self service place (you put your order online and someone brings it out to you later). The place is also packed, which is a good sign for sure. But the slight con with this is that sometimes service can be slow... but for the food it's worth it. I ended up here based on a recommendation from a friend, did not disappoint. I ended up ordering something away from my comfort zone, I'd usually go for a pad Thai or pad see ew, but I went ahead and ordered the red curry and the coconut soup. Very delicious, good portion. The soup I was not such a big fan of, wouldn't get it again. Will definitely be back to try my favorites at this spot. I definitely love the counter service they've got going on, there's a self-serving station so you can help yourself to sauces and waters. You can either go ahead and order at the counter, or take a seat at one of the tables and order from the sticker they have on the tabletop. Thai fresh lacks authenticity, flavor and service. Austin has much better options elsewhere. We had the coconut soup, drunken noodles with chicken and pad see ew with pork belly. The coconut soup and drunken noodles were passable but expensive compared to what you can get elsewhere. It was the pad see ew that was that was bland and oddly sweet (honey? sugar?) and the pork belly was dry. Pad see ew should be a bit sour, and also salty but neither of those flavors were evident - it was just oily and sickly sweet and not really edible. I mentioned this to the server as I had assumed a mistake was made. It happens. No attempt was made to bring the dish back to check or to check that there wasn't a mistake made. He went to the front after I explained the issue and came back showing me his cell phone without even bothering to taste the dish that it is what it should be. He proceeded to show me some random pdf somewhere a description that it can be a bit sweet from the dark soy. Again not evident in our dish. The total for meal came to over 60 without drinks but tip was required to even place the order. We left hungry. Disappointing and not worth the time let alone the cost. While it's busier and a bit more expensive, Elizabeth Street Cafe is pretty close tastes better with better value / ambiance. read more

Really bummed with Thai Fresh. Years ago, this was an affordable local restaurant. But I just visited recently to get their coconut milk based ice cream, which is tasty. However, I never would have thought that two scoops on a waffle cone would cost more than $15! And I understand that they include the "tip" automatically in their pricing structure now, but to also ask for another tip on their payment tablet, well that's just something else. I get it though, as a small business owner myself in the food and beverage industry, I understand all about pricing, and this is why I'm leaving this review. ORIGINAL: I'm very disappointed. I have always loved Thai Fresh but I hadn't been there in a while until this weekend. We were there for dinner. We ordered two dishes - chicken & rice and a yellow curry (don't recall the name). Nothing else. No drinks. No appetizers. No desserts. We were charged $65 which, even with 15% built-in gratuity, sounds excessive. The food was okay but definitely not $65 worth. It appears we were overcharged but it didn't register at the moment since we were so distracted talking. UPDATE: I stopped by today to ask that they verify why we were charged $65. Unfortunately, I didn't have the credit card with me since my partner paid. He will call to get it addressed. But I want to give a shout out to CARINA who was super sweet and helpful in trying to resolve the issue. Based on my interaction with her and the plate that I ordered and took home (which was excellent), I increased my rating from 2 stars to 3. Super spacious restaurant, probably the size of two restaurants. Despite that, their parking lot is extremely small. You may have to park on the street near residential. The service is minimal since you order via QR code on the table. They don't serve you or provide you with water. I ordered the pad see ew, which is my go-to for trying a new thai place. The food came out very quickly but I was unimpressed by the flavor and the amount of veggies in it. It was just okay and I probably wouldn't go back. I ordered takeout and picked it up at the restaurant. The restaurant was large with many indoor tables and an amazing patio. Plus they offer coffee/bakery on one half for the store. It's fallen off. I started going to Thai Fresh pretty frequently back in 2019. Moved away for a bit and came back to Austin a month ago. Went to Thai Fresh on Saturday and the quality of their food has crashed & burned. Pad-See-Ew was flavorless. The Yellow Curry was also lacking. The dessert? Don't even bother. The "tres leches" is what they called it, was not tres leches and whatever it was, had clearly been sitting in the fridge for several days. Got some Tom Kha soup here yesterday and forgot that most Thai places have soups that already come with protein. One of the best things about Thai fresh is you can choose with the soup if you want any protein or not. I recently have decided to eat less meat and didn't realize it would be difficult to find somewhere without chicken! Food: 4/5 I think Thai fresh makes some slapping food, the only problem is I am always left wanting more. I got take out and it was hot and ready when it said it would be. I was disappointed that you are not able to order a 16pz of the soup. I didn't have any leftovers )): really hope they expand the sizing, 12pz = 1 serving for me. I judge Thai food by two things. 1. Pad Thai and 2. Massaman Curry. 1. Some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had. Amazing noodles, fresh, great sauce and tried it with Pork Belly and it was so good. 2. The curry was also perfectly flavored with an awesome portion. Sometimes it's too spicy or flavorless but they nailed it. The ambiance is calm and casual, great for families, it's a place you could eat lunch or dinner everyday, if it wasn't so far for me to drive. They also have a coffeeshop and pastries for breakfast. My kids love all kinds of non-spicy curries so they loved this pineapple curry-flavored fried rice. This was ordered through delivery, it came in warm but was still delicious, wasn't soggy, and that extra kick of curry made this dish rememberable. For the price, we thought the portion was right, it was definitely packed and fed my two kids and me with no problem. Enough protein (we chose beef), just the right amount of pineapple to share, wasn't too salty for our family. Will order again and try something new next time. read more

They used to be meticulous about clean ingredients not covered with salt, but it's been off the last few times we went there. Our experience here was one of complete satisfaction. Having little to no experience with Thai food myself, I was a bit apprehensive. We had the Pork Larb Lettuce Wrap and Pad Thai. My date's salad and wrap were delicious. It was the first time I had ever tried this entree. Thumbs up! My Pad Thai was ordered with shrimp, and I chose to add pineapple and mushrooms. It was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The service was great and the food was better! If you find yourself in Austin, Thai Fresh is a great option! I had higher hopes for Thai Fresh as it seemed to be one of the larger Thai restaurants in the area and hoped it would live up to it's name of fresh, quality Thai food. The seating areas are not so nice - indoors is split into two sections and is not so pleasant. Outdoors is just a few picnic tables that seem old and in need of replacement. You order from the QR code at your table - and the menu has very, very many options. We ordered a fried rice dish, a coconut soup, and a papaya salad with shrimp. I was disappointed in the papaya salad that I was hoping might be a bit tastier. When we went in to look at their bakery at 8:59 p.m., we were told they were closed. Service, overall, was not so kind - and there seemed to be some confusion as to which tables dishes should be delivered. I've been a Thai Fresh customer for several years, but I don't know that I will return after my experience tonight. I placed an order at 7:29pm. I went to check on it around 8. The line was so long that it took until 8:22 for them to tell me they lost our order in their system but that they could have it ready around 8:50 or they could refund me. Waiting almost an hour and a half for food is insane. And they didn't do anything to make it right. They wouldn't expedite it, didn't offer a free dessert or drink or anything. It made me feel like they don't value my time. Very disappointing from a restaurant I liked. Thai Fresh has great pastries, but it's not worth having to wait for 80 minutes to get your Thai food. If you're in the area, Pan 888 has much better customer service and is significantly cheaper for the portion served. I'll also be trying Super Thai on South Lamar. read more

This place used to have really good food, but unfortunately they fell off. Last time I was here I got the ol reliable Pad Thai (no thai place can mess that up right?) and it was soggy and oily mess. Guys you don't have to drown the thing in sauce, I can assure you sometimes less is more. But really, I was curious on why the food hasn't been hitting the same lately so I talked to one of the servers and they informed me that changed management, especially in the kitchen. Which would make sense because they DO have an open kitchen and I no longer see the same old familiar faces. If Thai Fresh could get their management situation in order, redemption is not not off the table. Came here with a friend for a semi-late (12:30pm) lunch on a weekday and there was plenty of seating in both the restaurant as well as the Cafe / bakery that's connected next door. There is a parking lot in front of the building, but there are not very many spots as there was no room here even though I figure the total inside capacity was at only 30%. There is street parking available within a block so overall not too bad in terms of accessibility. The restaurant has a eclectic buildout in rugged hole-in-the-wall kind of way. It's sufficiently comfortable and honestly feels a little like Thailand by not being a pristinely maintained and modern buildout. The fish sauce smell was a bit strong when we were there but can't hold that against them. The food was good, I'd say ~3.5 stars on average. We ordered the Pad Thai (4 stars), Glass Noodles (3 stars), and the Larb Nang Gai Todd (4 stars). Flavors were balanced and tasty with some more memorable than others but overall would not register on my "must have again" list. The biggest knock here was the service and customer experience. The restaurant is all self-service and they adopt a Toast tab for minimal contact ordering. No issues against these setups and I appreciate the convenience but as a customer, you're also stuck in the awkward situation of tipping upfront for effectively no service. I already have a strong opinion against how wild tipping culture has gotten in the U.S. (just bake it into the price of the food so there's no subjective awkwardness!) and setups like these create for an awful experience when things go wrong. The person "helping" us was perfectly nice, but forgot every simple request we asked of her (can we get an extra plate?). Our collective tip on a lunch was probably $10 and the guilt of not tipping despite the fact that we ended up self-serving for everything is never fun. Overall worth a visit as the food is pretty good but the dine-in experience was not particularly great.
