This place has substantially decreased in qualitybsince i was last here. The eggs in the chorizo were rubbery and not cooked in well. The beans were canned refried and crusty around the edges, they were gross. My eggs Benedict wasn't bad but the potato's weren't home fries they were deep fried and wierd. I wouldn't expecty home fries to be dunked in a deep fryer. The best thing about the coffee cup was the coffee. Huge disappointment. We won't be back, you should stay away. And then on top of that we had to pay 2.00 for their ATM cause they don't take credit cards. This is 2022, there is no reason not to make it easy for your customers to pay. read more

Felt the need to yelp The Coffee Cup Cafe ASAP, because both Angela Y. and Davin B. did so immediately after we all got back! And for good reason. Our group of paddlers came here by recommendation of Davin B., as MVP's (across the street!) was closed for Easter Sunday. All of us walked in hungry and tired and were quickly seated. The tables were fully stocked with all of the condiments you could possibly need for a fantastic brunch - a variety of jam packets, honey, salsas, ketchup - the works. I had the Turkey Sausage scrambler, which came with a side of buttered toast (wheat, thanks) and potatoes. IT WAS DELICIOUS. With some ketchup, pepper, and salsa verde on top, I was good to go. The portions here are definitely generous, as I left extremely content, if not overstuffed. I had a taste of a friend's buttermilk pancakes with some boysenberry sauce - so good! FYI, if you want to try them out you can buy the pancakes as singles ($2), short stacks ($3.50), or full stacks ($5). I don't know why I'm bothering to write a review. This place has obviously established it's excellent food, service, and environment. I compare this place with The Pot Holder cafe which is also located in long beach. I would say that the coffee at the pot holder is better, but the service and food at the Coffee Cup is exceptional. This place is super busy even on a weekday morning. Luckily my group of three was seated right as we walked in the door. There's a lovely hustle and bustle about this restaurant which I really like. It feels like a true breakfast diner. I ordered Juan's favorite. Or someone's favorite. I forget. The one with veggie chorizo and mushroom. What I liked about this omelette is that the egg part wasn't super thick and overwhelming. Sometimes people put way too much egg and that's literally all you taste despite the variety of ingredients. My friend got the huevos rancheros and added chorizo. He was so in love. He finished almost all of it and was so happy. My other friend got a spinach omelette and ate a significant portion of that as well. Service was alright. Definitely a busy morning. We had to wait a bit for our check but we didn't mind too much. Good breakfast, good service and a nice place for Sunday breakfast. Be prepared to: wait for a table (20 mins+ on weekend mornings) and look for parking. But have a cup of Joe while you wait. but if you ride your motorcycle, you can pretty much park it right in the front in between cars, or ride your bicycle there. They have a bike parking area in the front also. The hostess was very nice, they sat our party of 2 at the counter and she offered to place our helmets and motorcycle gear in the office to free up space for us and for the other customers. Good and friendly wait staff, I had the apple sausage with eggs, good! Coffee good! Corned beef hash good! They only serve breakfast and lunch on their menu too. CASH ONLY though. Awesome little coffee shop in downtown long beach. I've heard a lot of this breakfast place but never managed to try it out until now. I arrived on Sunday around 11, and had only at 25 minute wait for a table for 3. Our host was very friendly and server/busboy as well. We were immediately given iced water and menus. The menu selection was large, catering all your breakfast needs. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and have us tips on what to order. I ordered the Cajun scramble which was cooked to perfection and very well flavored. Both of my friend liked their dishes as well. Today I once again experienced a very silly thing at this restaurant. This is by no means a reflection on the staff of servers who wait on me when I go here. All the servers are very good to me. But unfortunately they have to live by the rules that management puts thru. Here is my issue I love to order flour tortillas GRILLED with my meal. To me it's not a big complicated request. I personally don't like the flour tortilla heated or whatever they do when they don't grill it. It appears raw to me. I order two items when I go here, potato scramble or the Huevos rancheros. The latter used to come with the Oder but management/owners in their wisdom decided to start charging for the flour tortilla. $1.00. I didn't like that but fine I got over that. Today the restaurant was pretty busy. I get it special orders take time. I get it. But how long does it take to grill a flour tortilla? Especially when it's an ExTRA charge!!!!! Once again, to me, it's a silly management rule that looses regular customers like me! Especially when you consider that my meal tab comes out to $16.00(including). There are several other restaurants I frequent and I order the same and they are much less. That's my two cents for the day. read more

I came here with my best friend, after picking her up from the airport. The smell of the coffee in the restaurant was just so nice! The atmosphere for some reason reminded us of Central Perk from Friends, everyone was really friendly and we were seated without having to wait too long. We both got a cup of coffee (1 regular and 1 hazelnut) and shared a HUGE egg scramble, toast, and a large pancake. I love coffee, and the coffee here was brewed beautifully, I didn't need to add any creamer. And my bestfriend who is an occasional coffee drinker, thought it was one of the best she ever had too! A friend recommended The Coffee Cup. We waited for about 5 minutes and then we were seated inside.The woman who took us to our table was very nice. However our server Amber was very rude. Since it's our 1st time we asked if we could separate the check since we brought 2 families. Very rudely she answers no. I can understand answering no but the manner in which she spoke was very rude where the whole table could sense her attitude. We continue to order our food and my mother asked what kind of sides come with the dish and again very rudely she speaks to her as if my mother were incompetent. We continued to brush off her attitude and finished ordering. Once our food arrived our order was messed up. The food was OK the pancakes had so much cinnamon that they were spicy. I asked for ketchup and ranch for my side of sweet potatoes. The other waiters and waitresses were very nice and kind to us. However every time Amber came to our table she seemed very rude. Once we had received our food we were given the check. Once we finished eating I reviewed the check. Our total came out to $96 plus. All of us at the table were a little surprised because we had estimated that the total would be around $80. I am visually impared and so I cannot read this woman's writing on the check so I kindly go over to the counter and ask the man if he could read the check to me because I can't see. He very politely reads it for me and I have a question regarding the price of an item which is marked incorrectly. He doesn't have the answer so he nicely asks Amber if she can help me. So I explain myself again saying that I can't see very well and if she can please read the items on the check for me. Very quickly she reads the items but she doesn't tell me the prices on the check since that was my question. For some reason she seemed very bothered that I asked her this question. I tell her if there's a piece of paper where I can write out the items on the check because it wasn't adding up correctly. She sighs very loudly and seems like she doesn't want to help me. I was being as polite as I can but for some reason she was very very rude. So not only were certain items marked incorrectly on the check but I was charged for ketchup and ranch. So I kindly ask her why I was charged for ketchup and ranch. She very rudely said it's a dollar. I ask her but on the menu it doesn't say that again. Again it was my 1st time here. She seemed very rushed and she wanted to quickly locate it on the menu. She couldn't find it on the menu so she goes to the back and pulls out a menu that's on a piece of paper with plastic on it. She said "right here it States that it's a dollar." I very politely tell her that I was not given that menu with different priced items. Then very rudely she says "nothing's for free." I was shocked at that response. And so I asked her "ok, so how much is water." I told her I had never been there so I assume ketchup is free since it's not on the menu same as water. For some reason she really wanted to argue and win a non existence argument. I was not there to argue. All I wanted was for someone to read the check to me because I'm visually impaired. After I finished paying the correct amount my mother asked who's the manager so we can have someone to speak with. It turns out Amber is the manager. I'm sorry but I cannot be more disappointed with Amber's customer service. I would really like to speak with the owner regarding Amber's handling of today's situation because this was unacceptable for someone who is not only disabled but a paying customer. I've had this place bookmarked for 2 years and now I can finally write a review on it! The wait is definitely long, but that is expected since this place is busy! Excellent service though! The waiters kept refilling our coffees, teas, and water! All the dishes tasted great and huge portions too! The apple smoked sausage scramble was okay; I wish they added more veggies. The Mr. W's scramble was delicious! It had everything in it. There's also a combo where you can order french toast and choose from sides of fruit, sausage, bacon, toast all for $6! The service is definitely quick and not a lot of waiting. Which is always a plus in my book. The menu had a good array of choices, but definitely more focused on breakfast. The prices were low and I was able to get a breakfast combo for 6:50. The only think pricey was the drinks. I bought coffee and it was almost three dollars. With the combo I got French toast, eggs and sausage. It was a good amount for the price. The French toast was good. In fact the aroma of the cinnamon before I ate excited me. I was pleased with the meal. You can get free refills in coffee and the waiter came often so I never had to call him for a refill. Overall I was pleased with the place. I am so sad to be reporting this but the coffee cup cafe is not the the same one I have been going to for the past 12 years. First, no more coffee being served as you wait for your table. Second, only one piece of toast with my breakfast, it's always been two pieces. Even when Yo get an English muffin they only serve one piece. The portions are noticeably smaller while the prices went up. The only good thing about my visit is there were not a lot of people there at 10:30 am on a Saturday morning so I was seated the quickest I have ever been seated there in the MANY times I have eaten there. After an unsuccessful first attempt to dine here last summer, my family and I were finally able to eat brunch at the world famous Coffee Cup Cafe. If you come here on the weekend, be prepared for a long wait as the restaurant is fairly small and people usually come in groups of four or more. We waited outside for about half an hour until our party was called. We had time to browse the menu while waiting and I knew I had to order Hank's Chicken Chile Verde Omelette simply because it's easily the most pictured menu item here on Yelp. It was a lot spicier than I had anticipated, but it was so good. The eggs were crispy around the edges and the Jack and cheddar cheeses weren't overwhelming. The potatoes served with the omelette could use some seasoning. I would definitely recommend this dish, especially if you love spicy foods. There's also a variety of salsas and hot sauces at your table if you're into that. The rest of my family also enjoyed their meal, however there must've been a bit of miscommunication between our server and the kitchen. My cousin ordered David's Scrambler with no ham, but instead she received ham and no sausage. Not too big of a deal as she still enjoyed her food. Since this place can get extremely busy, the noise level inside is just very loud. There's no other way to describe it. Our server even needed us to repeat ourselves a few times. Overall, a good local spot to come for breakfast eats. Do bring cash because they do not accept plastic! There's an ATM conveniently located towards the back of the restaurant.
