Great place for drinks and apps. We were impressed by the service and felt the ambiance was just perfect for a good night out. We went for happy hour and tried out the burger duo, tater tots, bacon wrapped shrimp and crab hush puppies, literally everything was delicious and tasted how it should. For drinks we alternated between the mezcal mule(not on HH), mojito, beer and sparkling wine. They certainly had enough alcohol in them because we had a nice buzz. Our server was so sweet as well. This place is in city center so parking was somewhat a hassle. I think this is a generally good casual eatery, but overall a but pricey for the quality and quantity of the food. The daily tots were good, but nothing special and the ingredients were generic and just on top, so really no craft or reason to be $9. The crab hush puppies were not bad. Soft in the middle and slightly sweet, but didn't have a lot of flavor. I liked the honey chicken. It was super wet and drippy. It was a little weird that they didn't give us plates. The fish and chips were good to me. I thought the battering was well done and I like fries that are limp instead of crunchy. The shrimp and grits were pretty good. I think the shrimp was a little heavy on their herbs. There were little chunks of cauliflower that interrupt the grit consistency. I did not get the fried egg I ordered. The burger was good, a little sweet from the sauce. The service was a little spotty, but it was more from a waiter that seemed overworked rather than bad service. I think he did a good job given his circumstances. I think that the happy hour looks appealing, but don't think I'd come again for dinner. read more

Went for their brunch on a Saturday around 1:00 PM Parking: You will probably have to park inside the garage and walk to the restaurant. There is very limited parking in front of their establishment so don't even bother and just go inside the garage and walk over. Drinks: the drinks were pretty okay. They have dollar mimosas for brunch but they def had more orange juice than champagne lol They also had a 30 dollar "carafe" of Aperol Spritz but the carafe was a small pitcher so I did not think it was worth it. Food: the brunch food was so disappointing. There's just no other way to put it. The quality and quantity did not justify the price. See my pictures attached. Each plate was 9-15 dollars and look at the sad portions. When people go to brunch they are hungry as they're going to eat breakfast/lunch. The tator tots were "shareable" but really felt like a snack for one person (which by the way, those were probably the only thing that were great). Overall disappointed in the food area and would not recommended anyone to come here for brunch food. Service: amazing service! the waiter was super attentive and made sure we were good with drinks at all times. Atmosphere: it was clear that their brunch is targeted for older clientele and not really for the yuppies. Overall: If you're going for brunch and y'all are hungry this is not the place. Had brunch here with my hubby. I ordered their daily tots (which is on the all day menu) and to my surprise, it was superb! The topping was especially made for brunch with jalapeño gravy, bacon, cheese, and a soft fried egg. It was the best served hot and fresh. Service was also great. They have one dollar mimosas. This time I finally had enough with myself... they finally deserve a review because yesterday's experience was too good. We came in for brunch and were seated well away from any other party ... social distance, ya'know?! That alone was two points for me. Quality has definitely taken a hit since the pandemic passed. They used to have the best happy hour in town. It's like they lost the plot. They used to have maybe 15 drinks on the happy hour, now they have maybe 4 drinks on the happy hour to choose from (which includes a tiki punch that is really off brand for this place). They use to have sliders, meatballs, grilled cheese, daily tater tots, all on the happy hour. A couple months ago I went they reduced the happy hour to 3 food items. Then I went today and they removed all food from the happy hour. We were served by someone named Gabby who honestly wasn't that nice. She forgot our appetizers with no apology. This is the second time I had her with two different people and both parties found her unpleasant. It's unfortunate to witness the decline of a favorite restaurant. I am certain the 4 star review score is testament on how the establishment was previously run. I give it a year before the yelp review reflects the changes to the restaurant. read more

Came for happy hour with a few coworkers. The place is superbly decorated and has great ambiance. Very cozy and comfortable. We were sat at a table and not given menus, there was just a QR code at one corner of the table. Not super convenient to have to reach over the whole table or stand up and walk around to get to the code. Drinks were pleasant but the server was super annoyed that one of us was not having alcohol (commented on it several times) and that we weren't ordering strictly off the happy hour menu. Went in for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu and was kinda disappointed! We dined on a Wednesday night and found the restaurant completely empty but blasting loud music, which created a really awkward environment. For appetizers, we had the crab hushpuppies and the kung pao lettuce wraps. The lettuce wraps were quite good, but the hushpuppies didn't really taste like much. The texture was nice, though. Our second course included the salmon and the beef tenderloin. The beef was cooked well, was super tender, and tasted nice. The salmon, however, came in 2 filet pieces. One filet was cooked through, the other was raw and cold on the inside. We had it sent back and kind of felt our server's tone shift. They didn't offer to have it remade or anything, or even apologize or offer any sort of service, but was nice enough to comp it without us asking. I work as a server, and any time a customer complains about their food being undercooked, even if it's not, but ESPECIALLY if it is, I apologize, offer alternate options, and get it comped off. Our server didn't really say anything and seemed irritated. For dessert, we had the brownie parfait and the cheesecake. They were pretty sweet but tasted fine. I had also ordered their shrimp avocado salad to go for someone, and they said it was a really small portion (for $17) and that the shrimp wasn't cooked well. I'm reading all the good reviews this place has, and I'm sad we didn't have a similar experience to the other patrons. Maybe it was an off night and we'd have a better experience if we came in a second time, but unfortunately, I'm not willing to take the risk. read more

You can get a feel of the classy ambience as soon as you step inside. We were greeted by the host who was very nice and said he would get a table for 8 set up as soon as possible. The wait was quick and we were seated at the high table with a nice view of the place. The menu offers appetizers, salads, and various choices of sandwiches. We went with the fish and chips, enchiladas, and grilled cheese sandwich with fries. The fish and chips was my favorite. The outside of the fried fish was fried just right with a nice crispy layer. The inside was soft and the fish just melts in your mouth. It also came with large side of fries that was crunchy and not too salty. The enchiladas were a good portion as an appetizer and nicely flavored. The grilled cheese sandwich was crunchy on the outside with a bit of spice because of the jalapeños between the melted cheese layer. You have an option of choosing fries or a salad as your side. My friend was celebrating her birthday here with a birthday brunch! I was excited to go as it as been on my list of brunches to try. The $1 mimosas were great! First off, thank you, Susan (General Manager), for taking care of us at dinner. Her staff, especially Hannah, our bartender/waitress, were all so amazing; they seem like such a fun bunch and we were so well taken care of! I was asked to come back to give the menu another chance - they definitely deserve the 4 stars. It's a really cool spot; once you walk through the door, the atmosphere is super laid back with a bit of class. We started the night with the Crab Hushpuppies. Although I wish there was more crab meat than the cornmeal, I am still a fan. The maple butter lathered on top of each bite will make you drool. The Grilled Shrimp and Arugula Salad was ok. I liked the combination of the grilled corn, grape tomato and honey lime vinaigrette; I get the concept of trying to make the cornbread crouton pop out with the salad but the cornbread crouton was a little disappointing. I think the salad would have been fine without it. The Bacon Burger, on the other hand, was DELICIOUS. We added a fried egg in the burger and so should you! Every bite was full of flavor and the bacon aioli was a great addition to the burger. The General Public, a place for lunch, laughter, and ultimate camaraderie between friends and family. Unfortunately, this was not the case. While being greeted by our waiter/host I couldn't help but notice the emptiness in the restaurant. This came to me by surprise as the national championship is it town this weekend. Although an empty restaurant, this still impacted our wait time as we had to wait to be seated. So far... not good. However, as an optimistic individual I believed that this place would surprise me and my experience would get better. After we ordered our food, thirty-five minutes into our lunch, I found this disappointing as I was awfully hungry heading into this establishment. An hour later the food arrived after consistent reassurance from the waiter as I often need to be reassured due to potential trust issues from by past. After much anticipation, my fish and chips arrived at the table. Quickly I noticed the ménage à trois of oil, fish, and tater tots. The oil was rivaling a jealous wife after a curious husband suggested they spice things up with the neighbor. Anywho, just a bad experience. Unless you have time, do not come here. Cheers! read more
