Great find on Haight street away from all the tourists. Nice atmosphere, great variety of food choices! We are a family of four and we all found something we liked on the menu. Food took awhile but not bad as it was packed! Rightfully so since the food was amazing! I definitely recommend if you want good food and away from the crazy tourist spots, this is your place! They have a lovey out door seating area. The places isn't that big. We got lucky and found a table. Would love to go back and try other things on their menu. The food here is pretty tasty. Everything has great flavor. I had the chicken pesto sandwich and really liked it. Their salads are good too. I'd recommend the pear salad. Fries are separate from the burger. I was disappointed with the fry portion. I ate them in probably two bites :( . They have wifi here. Nice spot. I've had luck with parking here. My friends and I ended up spending quite some time here during our walks of shame in the morning. It seems like almost every morning while we were in SF, we ended up here, hungover, half dead, in makeup from the night before, and in dire need of caffeine and a couple pastries. As far as the pastries go, i'd say 4.5 stars. As for the coffee, 3.5 stars. I have very high standards when it comes to coffee though, so 3.5 isn't actually half bad. Their pumpkin chocolate chip loaf was deeeelicious. Almost as good as the one I make. (almost.) And the raspberry crumble bar was pretty damn addicting. Service was iffy. One morning we got the nicest girl but the other mornings we got this chick who made it very clear that she was having a bad day...2 days in a row apparently. Amazing low-key place in the Lower Haight that I've been going to for over 15 years. Food is delicious, ample portions, clean and simple place with a very friendly waitstaff. Terrible customer service. Harassing barrister. I am a writer who likes to get a coffee and some snacks when I sit down at a place for a few hours. This employee began harassing me when she saw I had ordered only a coffee and a piece of cake. I asked her "Is this considered food so I sit down?" She answered yes. But when I was eating the food she had approved as "food," she returned to me, telling me I had to be "consuming food" to which I said "Is there a rule how fast should I be eating my food?" because I did have my slice of cake in front of me. Cute place, good coffee & lots of inside & outdoor seating. I spent most of New Years Day (morning) walking around Haight-Ashbury looking for a place to eat breakfast. Some diners I had been interested weren't open. However, this was on my list of places to try out based on Yelp reviews and luckily it was open New Years Day! I ordered a coffee with a 3 stack of Blueberry pancakes. The size of the pancakes were huge, but definitely not my favorite. They tasted bland with very few blueberries mixed in.... but I just added some butter & syrup and I was good to go. My friend ordered an omelette that was so tiny for the price we payed for it. But it was a "healthy" option so we gave it that, we needed to add salt to it for more flavor. The coffee was tasty. What I liked most about this place was the outdoor seating (even though it's a little cramped). We sat right at the edge that is right along the sidewalk so it was nice to see people walking their dogs or wearing their sunglasses... still hungover from the previous night, good for people watching. I'm a fan of the neighborhood it was located in so I give it a star for that. I arrived at about 9:30 am and it became busy shortly after our arrival. I've only tried this place once, but I would definitely come back. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, food was decent (might have to fix it up a bit) and the prices were reasonable. read more

Came back just for the bagels, which are delicious but also HUGEEE. Got two: one with hummus, avocado and veggies and the other with cream cheese, avocado, and veggies. Once again, HUGEEE. All the ingredients they use are fresh, the bagel is slightly toasted/crispy, and it's stacked. And it felt slightly healthy so I didn't feel too bad eating it. And I've always found their choice of music for a brunch spot confusing -- it's like super intense EDM/trap music which I really like but not usually my first choice at noon on a Sunday. read more

I come here at least two Sundays a month, maybe three. Perfect since its about 5 blocks from my place. My routine usually goes like this, grab my laptop (they have free wireless) or a book. Head down and order one of the egg specials. You can roll in here solo, with your significant other, family or friends. Its an all around people friendly joint. The staff is also very cordial and welcoming. It gets a bit crowded but don't fret I've never had a problem getting a seat. Not sure how I haven't reviewed the Grind before, seeing as how I grew up quite literally ACROSS THE STREET, but it's not like reviewing restaurants was the cool thing to do in middle school, so here we go. Better late than never. I'll always been happy eating at The Grind if its convenient, because the menu is big, the food is solid, and you'll rarely, if ever, leave disappointed. But even after all these years, its still far from being one of my "favorite places". I went with the Grind Combo (Pancakes, hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, bacon). It was definitely satisfying, as you get your money's worth, but it was far from life-changing. Hashbrowns are dope. Crunchy, crispy, tasty and delicious. Pancakes are good, although they're a little heavy (as opposed to being light & fluffy), especially once you throw syrup on them. In short breakfast was as breakfast always is here, good, but not the best. Definitely think you can do better with Kate Kitchen or Eddie's Cafe, nearby options which are both slightly better. If I could give 3.5 stars I would in a heartbeat, but as it is 3 stars will have to do. read more

Almost to the point where I'm arguing about my missing bagel and cream cheese! The restaurant took No responsibility Even if it was Not Their mistake (according to the rude staff member). There was another person who must've overheard the poor customer service and they took over the call. Still, blaming me for my order. She then wanted me to read her my receipt and I told her that I only had the visa slip charge and not an itemized one. this is a great start to a fun filled trek down to HA district and if you're really feeling full you can trek all the way to golden gate park and only stop for a bite on your way back home.. I went here on two separate occasions and had breakfast and then had a lunch item. First time was lunch. I ate in their tiny dining area inside. I got a cheeseburger asked for it t medium well although when it came out it was pretty red. Ate it anyway. The bun grilled was nice and this was a big ass burger took half of it home.. Also got a smoothie. For $4 though I would not get it again. It was tiny and not very exciting. ( I got pineapple coconut). The next time I went I ordered breakfast w/ a friend. We sat outside in their cute little dining set up. He got the southwestern omelet as well as a side of corned beef hash which I do not like but he loooooved it and said it was homemade. I got a the lower haight omelet with hashbroowns which I asked if they could burn a tiny bit and they said yes. Food came quickly & was tasty. The portions were large (as seen in pictures) I also got a coconut macaroon to go and it was so big it was heavy like a baseball and half dipped in chocolate. I ate breakfast here on 1/19 morning. The server/cashier in brown sweatshirt and baseball cap (older white woman) was so extremely cold with me. She helped me customize my order - with her help, I got a two egg omelette with literally two types of veggies, no cheese or whatsoever for almost $16!! I was shocked, and upset that I came here to pay that much for a tasteless omelette plus COLD service. She cane from my behind and literally threw the plate in front me as if she was mad at me. I felt so wrong paying to be treated like that. Before leaving, I realized that she was very charming with everyone else. The only thing that could have upset her about me was that I was the only brown person, everyone else was white. Could this have been racism in San Francisco!? Yaaasss. I guess three visits makes me both a local and a regular. I would argue that a true Sunday requires three key ingredients: cheap mimosas, delicious brunch foods (though I could eat brunch daily), and happy people. The grind has the perfect trifecta. A plate of almost anything tends to come in at around $11 and the mimosas are about a fiver. I've had the scramble a few times and it's huge, at least, by my standards. The Benedict was grand, although my memory for how good is poor. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it. I have decided next time that I'll pass on the homefries, since I just can't ever get through all that food. If you're a hungry one, know that you'll be fed. And fed. The inside-outside seating is a good vantage point for looking at cute neighbourhood dogs (and their owners, I guess) and I've seen plenty of cool characters walking by. One guy was in full clown shoes, which was a delight. Another guy was sat eating brunch accompanied by his pet iguana. I desperately wanted to pet it, but I did not. Solid local spot for a no-frills breakfast or lunch. Over the years it's become a standby, with good food and large portions. My favorite breakfast is the Grind scram--but there are options fitting for any mood. I highly recommend the hash browns as a side. For lunch, the burgers and sandwiches are pretty good. We like to order the veggie sandwich and add turkey--it becomes a fully loaded turkey sandwich and includes sprouts (my fav!). On weekends when the wait can be a bit longer, you can call to order ahead and take your food to-go. Giving it a 4/5 stars because there are off days where the service is frustratingly slow or makes mistakes. Staff is usually nice and friendly. read more

I ordered a vanilla cappuccino, a soy cafe ole and a gluten free chai cookie. My hubby and I agreed that it was just down right bitter and gross tasting and the customer service wasn't even noticeable. Overall Grind is not a place I would come to again because the coffee tasted horrible and the lack of enthusiasm is not something I see myself entertaining.
