This is a great casual breakfast and lunch spot with an extensive menu of real food, beverages, and pastries. I swung by on a Wednesday at noon and found it to be a terrific spot for a quiet, relaxing break. It's a big space, not crowded at all when I visited, so I had plenty of seating options. They keep the front entirely open so you get lots of fresh air and sunlight even all the way in the back of the cafe. There are also some tables outside on the sidewalk. I'm not sure if they have outlets indoors, but I could see myself getting some work done here too. In addition to the items listed on the menu, they have a bunch of different unique pastries for sale, all individually Saran wrapped, which I like because it keeps the items fresh and sanitary, plus you can take them on the go if you're in a rush. I chose the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cake ($4.50 total), which was a huge square slice. It was so good! I prefer this much more over Starbucks's pumpkin cream cheese muffin. Complimentary water is located in the back. Bus your own table when you're done. There's one bathroom (unisex) available.

I had high hopes for this place. However: The scrambled eggs with American cheese looked like literal garbage. It had the cheese ON TOP of the eggs. The toast was not "toasted", it was just 2 slices of bread with no butter or jam. The pancakes had maple syrup that seemed to have a main base of water. What a disaster of a food establishment.

i ordered takeout from here and got the chicken salad bagel. they did get my order wrong and the menu says it came with sprouts but it didn't. however, i really like the concept of this bagel and it tasted pretty good. the price point was also very fair. i would definitely try something else here!

This is the spicy "chorizo " burrito.

I ordered a chorizo burrito which was rice & jalapeños only. The almost croissant was stale & the paroski was dry. Very disappointed.

People of the Lower Haight, how lucky you are to have The Grind. The place is huge, there's even seating outside, hugging the building, no parklet needed. I know The Grind has been on Haight forever, interior harkens back to the 70s, meaning a funky vibe. Cash machine safely inside. Six large menu boards high on the wall. Coffees, smoothies, bagels, salads, omelets, house favs, pancakes, French toast, avocado toast, Belgian waffles, burgers, sandwiches, chili, pastries. For those staring at their laptops, even if you're milking a coffee, you're not contributing to their operating expenses, but there's plenty of seating. I've taken many salads to go, always generous & delicious. 9:30 on Thursday: Friendliest counter woman ever. She made sure I was comfortable with the ingredients, chatted a bit, clearly loved by the many regulars. About the Avocado Toast. Generous avocado mash, could have been given another day to ripen. Giant bread slice, toasted, can cut in 2, with everything seasoning, & pinch of chili flakes. (More please) Perfectly fried egg to order. Side of 4 strips thick & chewy bacon. Mighty Leaf tea. No regrets. Support Local!

My new fave Cafe ! The food here has been amazing the past 2 times I've been here. I would say the food is a 4/5. The service is amazing I would give that a 5/5 easy. All the food is fresh and made upon order. The atmosphere is peaceful but can be busy depending on when you come. Next time I will get grilled chicken instead of crispy chicken. I also had the Lox scramble which was good especially if you like soft cooked salmon. Please try, don't know how this place only has 3.5 star rating.

Probably my favorite brunch space in all of sf! With the food tasting incredible and such a large menu, it always will be my go-to brunch space to take friends and family.

Chicken Fried Steak with hash brown and eggs

Only tried this place via delivery so far. I think most of us like a chicken fried steak once in a while. By the way, if by the chance you don't know this. Chicken Fried Steak doesn't have any chicken, it's thin cut of beef steak marinated in buttermilk, breaded and fried. It's called that because it's prepared like southern fried chicken. This is essentially a Southern dish with either a white or dark gravy on top. I thought they serve pretty good CFS dish here, so this is a good find.

    Cheese Omelette
    Brittany H.

I ordered delivery so I can't speak on the ambiance. I ordered cheese omelette because Uber eats didn't have the options I wanted to pick. The chicken sausage is really good. Home fries was good too. Omelette was basic but good. My only issue is that this was a delivery order to a hotel and they didn't give me any utensils and no condiments so my bread was dry with no butter or jelly. That should be included.

Not too sweet with a strong tea flavor, while still very creamy. I would try some of their signature drinks next time. Of the food options I tried, I liked the popcorn chicken the most. The chicken pieces were seasoned well and very juicy. I found the crispy rice cakes super addicting. The Seoul sausage pepper croissant had a lot going on, while also not having too much flavor at the same time. There was cheese, sausage, sauce, and pastry and my brain had a hard time figuring out what to focus on. Another reviewer mentioned that the gochujang caramel cookie mostly tasted like a sugar cookie and I would have to agree. I was hoping it would have a punchier spiciness to it! The cookie had a nice and chewy texture though.

Whether you are in the mood for a katsu sando, curry over rice, ochazuke with their matcha twist, or something sweet like the matcha cream pie, it is hard to go wrong here. All of the savory dishes I have tried have been great, but the fish katsu sando is one of my absolute favorites. The huge fish fillets are perfectly fried and flaky, tucked inside pillowy shokupan and topped with tangy yuzu shio koji sauce, tomato spread, and fresh crunchy cabbage. Every component works together beautifully, with richness, brightness, and texture all in balance. The pork katsu curry over rice is another standout. The katsu comes sliced into thick pieces that are still juicy inside, and it is fried expertly so the breading stays attached as you eat it. The curry has a really balanced flavor, even if I would not mind a little more spice, while the pickled radishes provide a nice contrast. I always add an onsen egg (for an additional $2) because breaking the runny yolk and mixing it into the curry adds another layer of velvety richness and creaminess. You can also tell they use high-quality matcha in their drinks, so the beverage menu is really more about choosing what fits your mood that day vs avoiding any bad options. Stonemill Matcha is a great option for a grabbing a drink on the go, a full blown sit down meal, a quick dessert stop or all of the above!
