    French onion soup
    Jeff L.

As good as it's always been! We were in Manhattan Beach for the holiday firework show on the pier and came here after. We've been coming here for many years and the food here is consistently great! - and they are open till midnight if you are in the area and hungry late night. I got the Braised Pot Roast Dip (upgraded to a melt which adds melted provolone cheese - $19.95) which is their delicious pot roast with caramelized onion jam, horseradish mayo & au jus on a French roll. For my side (and I always recommend this at the Kettle) I get the French onion soup. The French onion here is to die for and is honestly dream worthy! The braised pot roast dip was also incredible as usual. Glad we chose to come here tonight!

    Quiet and comfortable waiting area

Sunday lunch yesterday lacked the excellence of past visits. I can excuse the long wait for service once we were seated. The waitress seemed to have a scowl or attitude that was not welcoming. But then she might have been really tired or busy. I ordered the Patty melt which came with a choice of soup, salad, etc. I chose the French Onion soup. I've had it there many times in the past. And I asked for it (cup) to be upgraded to a bowl. When it came it looked good ... until I peered under the block of cheese and realized the "soup" was 99% broth with a few onions and a tiny piece of bread. It was ridiculous. The waiter could have given me a straw rather than a soup spoon. The Patty Melt also tasted great but had really poor presentation. It looked really unappetizing. Maybe I'm just being picky but it looked like meat in burned rye bread. But like I said it tasted very good. We were seated in a booth by the entrance door. Customers crowded in the area draping their arms down the inside of the booth hitting my guest in the head several times. I had to ask the cashier to please not permit crowding inside the entrance as there's a waiting area outside. No one asked how I liked my meal so I didn't say anything about the soup - which was a big time waste. Next time I'm there if a similar situation happens (if I order French Onion soup) I will complain.

Absolutely must try! I sat outside to the cool breeze and view of the ocean. Enjoyed a mimosa, coffee and also a blackened salmon sandwich, all were excellent! And to top it off the service was 10/10. This will be a new go to spot!

Back in the 90s and 2000s, I'd find myself here after bar hopping / clubbing on many late evenings enjoying a good meal. Really happy The Kettle is still open as many long time establishments in the area have closed down. This time, I brought my wife and kids here and as usual, the food did not disappoint. Our hostess was very patient and attentive. Kids were overwhelmed with all the choices to eat and they couldn't decide right away. Once they picked, the food came out rather quickly and it was more than enough to satisfy that they boxed up their leftovers. Everyone loved the vibe of the restaurant - warm and cozy.

Food This place is a local classic and a favorite of many people, and I got a classic country fried steak which is my usual go to brunch order. The actual food itself is a classic type of food, nothing trendy or over the top but you get what you order, which to be honest, isn't a bad thing and I like how their simple their food is. The actual steak wasn't bad, good texture on it crunch on the outside but still kinda tender steak that was cooked well, comes with well seasoned potatoes and eggs. The rest of my party got a burrito and some pancakes and there were pretty good as well and I would say reliable flavors that you know. My order came with a choice of pastry as well and I got a coffee and for me this was the higlight. Warm, fluffy, flavorful, everything that you'd want in a pastry accompanied by steak and eggs, definitely worth coming back to for the coffee cake alone Service/Ambiance For a sunday brunch, our party of 4 was seated pretty much right away but even if you had to wait, the front entrance had complimentary coffee and bread as well. The staff was nice and I liked the overall vibe of the restaurant. Service was relatively quick as well.

Great food, service and ambiance I order the Blackened Chicken Rigatoni It was so delicious and perfectly seasoned. I was craving their Cajun Jambalaya (which I ordered and loved, 20 years ago). The Blackened Chicken Rigatoni did not disappoint, in fact, it is my new favorite. Sane great food and service, 20 years later.

We had breakfast on a Tuesday morning. Parking: There is parking at the Metlox Parking lot. http://metloxmb.com/ You can park for 3 hours at $2.50 hour or you can park at the lower level for up to 10 hours at the same rate. There is also street parking (max 2 hours). Food: We ordered Eggs Benedict 10/10, Pot Roast Benedict 9/10, Country Fried Steak 10/10. I ordered the bran muffin 10/10. The coffee was very good too. Ambiance: They have indoor/outdoor seating. They have booths and tables. They have a long bar area with stools to sit on. Service; It was prompt. You can eat here and walk two blocks to the pier. It is a very good location. I would return.

Food was great, live the mustard sauce! Also appreciate the hours for this location was able to wind down with friends after a night out. Our server Taylor was an absolute gem! We felt very taken care off with food and customer service. Too bad he'd be moving but just wanted to share my experience w him as our server. Was absolutely fantastic and friendly! Will def be back at kettle

Locally world famous (for a good reason), this establishment is not only a family run local fave, it's a SoCal icon. Ever since 1973, their motto's been, "love all people and cook 'em tasty food." Yep, it was all very tasty, and so I'm giving back some of that love in this review. ** PARKING ** About a year ago, I got a ticket for not having a front license plate on my car (it was reduced to $10 with proof of front plates at MB City Hall). Without this twist of parking ticket fate, we wouldn't have stumbled upon The Kettle. Incidentally, parking is ample in this area, but it's manly metered/ticketed garages. Just keep in mind, that on Tuesdays, the streets are more packed with Farmer's Market vendors. ** SERVICE ** Service was casual & friendly yet attentive. And the food came out faster than it took us to decide what to order. My indecision was in check that morning so our server lucked out. The menu offers so many great options like guava juice (or apple, or OJ, or tomato, or cranberry) to "The Breakfast Club" meals. And if you get a sandwich or burger, I highly recommend trying their homemade soup. ** FRENCH MARKET ONION SOUP ** Let comfort feed your soul with a bowl of their soup. One of their most popular items on the menu, it's topped with a thick layer of parmesan garlic toast and melted mozzarella & Swiss cheese. A side of it was enough for me, but for major cheesemongers, I suggest a full bowl. It came with their honey bran muffin, which was also filling & tasty. Everything here is made from scratch. From what I sampled, it also tastes like grandma's cooking...well, someone's grandma's cooking. Or baking. Those "house made" muffins (in your choice of honey bran, carrot raisin, blueberry crumb, orange zest, coffee cake, or banana nut) smell heavenly. And they're served warm (if you ask) with every salad, omelette, and dinner entrée. ** POT ROAST BENEDICT ** Apparently, the other menu item that they're well known for is the Pot Roast. Since it was still technically breakfast time, I chose the poached eggs over slowly braised pot roast, on top of parmesan garlic French bread. The orange cilantro hollandaise was a nice balance to my meat + potatoes spread. There's also several options for Cage-Free Eggs & Omelettes for breakfasts and real stick-to-your-ribs choices for supper. The apps, classic salads, juicy burgers, and greasy spoon sandwiches looked good at neighboring tables. For night owls and bioluminescence chasers, The Kettle is open all night long on Fridays & Saturdays. So you can have breakfast for supper and banana nut pancakes for a midnight snack. The vibe is comfy, casual, and welcoming, starting at the front entrance. ** UNDER 9 & OVER 90 ** Saw this on the menu and loved the humor. I wonder if your mental age counts ;)

Late night dinner and a friend told us to come to the Kettle . . We were seated outside which was nice to see the night life! We had the crab sandwich, French dip and salmon sandwich! Food was delicious and came out fast! Service is super friendly!

Nice view inside the Kettle section.

Came here on a Saturday evening that was rather chilly outside. My guess opted for the sinful garlic fries, while I wanted to heat up from within. I opted for the barbecue pulled chicken which comes with a side of the tortilla chicken and I opted for the big bowl. For the money you're going to spend, you simply cannot beat the level of service quality of the product, and overall ambiance. Anita J was our customer service all-star, and boy was she a delight to deal with. What a great treat right before christmas.

Two of us got seated right away on an early Saturday afternoon. We sat on the patio and it was great to feel the fresh air and people watch. Service was great and the food came out so quick! We ordered the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, and banana pancakes. The portions were great and the taste was fresh and flavorful. There's paid parking all around the restaurant so you won't have a problem finding parking.

Every round that hit the table was a "pass it around, everybody try this" moment. The kind of happy hour where you're not just snacking -- you're accidentally having a full-on dinner because you can't stop ordering "one more thing." Food: Legit. Everything we tried was solid, but the wings were the standout for me -- the kind you keep reaching for even when you tell yourself you're good. Great flavor, cooked right, and they held their own against any wing spot that claims they're "known for wings." Whatever they're doing back there, keep doing that. Service / experience: This is where they really won. Trent was our guy tonight and I can't say enough about him. Manager supreme is the right title -- he wasn't just checking boxes, he was running the whole experience. He served, suggested, kept the pacing perfect, and made it feel effortless while still being locked in the entire time. You can tell when someone actually cares that your night is going well, and Trent is that dude. Major asset to this business and the kind of manager that turns first-time visits into "we're coming back next week." Atmosphere was exactly what you want for Manhattan Beach happy hour: lively, comfortable, easy to settle in, and perfect for a group. We came to try the menu and ended up staying for the vibe. Only complaint -- and it's not even on them, it's on the "beach cities trying to save the world one soggy sip at a time" vibe -- the paper straws. I swear those things last 11 minutes before they turn into a wet napkin. Let me live, Rockerfellas Bottom line: If you want a happy hour that actually delivers, Rockerfellas is it. GIve me a break. JUST SAY that The Rockefeller isn't dog-friendly and be done with it, ok? By the way, this incident WAS on Mother's Day 2026, so the staff was particularly overwhelmed. . . so there's that timing. On a previous time my husband and I had brunch here about 4-5 months ago, we DID take our little doggie without any issue. So the staff either has to get their stories straight for next time or just say that The Rockefeller IS dog-friendly, BUT ONLY for a two- or one-person party. Other than that, The Rockefeller's Chilaquiles are phenomenal. It was flavorful and filling. Also, the Bacon & Eggs (two eggs, any style) -- which I had my eggs over-easy -- were outstanding. Bottom-line: Don't bring your dog. It's just too complicated for The Rockefeller to handle. Leave your dog at home.

These plants appeared to have union representation. They're everywhere. Hanging from things. Growing out of things. Quietly observing your meal. The whole place feels like someone built a really nice restaurant and then let nature move in as a long term tenant. The room hums. Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just enough. Glasses clink. People lean into conversations. Servers weave through the room carrying plates that look heavy enough to alter their center of gravity. Nobody seems rushed. Everybody seems busy. It's a difficult balance. The biscuits arrived first. Now, I'd heard about the biscuits. People talk about these biscuits the way fishermen talk about the one that got away. Slightly dramatic. A little emotional. Hard to verify. Turns out the stories were true. Warm bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter. I took one bite and immediately understood why people order a second round. The outside has just enough structure to remind you it's baked. The inside is soft enough to make you wonder whether butter has secretly become a building material. We ordered another. Not because we needed another. Because apparently that's what happens here. The creamy polenta showed up next and felt like the culinary equivalent of a weighted blanket. Comforting. Smooth. Relaxed. The sort of dish that encourages you to slow down and stop checking your phone. The duck was one of my favorites. Lightly fried with crisp skin and tender meat, resting on white Italian beans and rosemary. It felt like something a French chef would cook after spending a weekend in the countryside and becoming briefly inspired by fresh air. At some point you stop evaluating food and simply nod in agreement with it. This was one of those moments. Dessert was equally dangerous. The olive oil cake arrived with strawberries and disappeared much faster than logic suggested it should. The cheesecake somehow managed to be rich and light at the same time, which feels like it should violate a law of physics somewhere. Service deserves its own mention. The whole team operates like a group project where everyone actually did their part. Plates appeared when they should. Water glasses mysteriously refilled themselves. Questions were answered without anyone making you feel like you should already know the answer. The chef's French influence shows up everywhere, but not in a showy way. Nothing feels complicated for the sake of being complicated. Everything feels like somebody spent a lot of time thinking about it so you wouldn't have to. By the end of the meal, I realized Manhattan Beach Post had done something difficult. It felt special without feeling serious. You can dress up. You can come casually. You can celebrate something important or absolutely nothing at all. Just order the biscuits. The plants already know you're going to.

Stopped by BrewCo Manhattan Beach for their lunch special and had a really nice experience overall…read more We ordered the chicken pot pie, roasted cauliflower, and the Smash Burger Americana with onion rings. The roasted cauliflower was hands down the best part of the meal. It was seasoned so well and honestly addictive. I could not get enough of it. The chicken pot pie came out piping hot and was really good, super comforting and flavorful. My only small wish is that it had pastry on the bottom too, since it would have soaked up all the juices. The burger was fine but nothing special. I think it could have used some lettuce and tomato to help tie everything together. The onion rings were solid. Service was good and it was not too crowded for lunch, which made it a relaxed and enjoyable place to sit and eat.

Father's Day Brunch. Excellent experience. Special two course meal with special menu offerings…read more Seriously, one course is more than enough, we had two plus appetizers! But no worries, we love leftovers! Food is always so creative and wonderful.at Tin Roof. Although we no longer live in Manhattan, still one if our favorite restaurants. Food and service are stellar! We started with cocktails, and of course prepared by our favorite bartender / cocktail specialist extraordinaire, Clark. Off Your Head (Bloody Mary) and Ophella's White Sangria. Both were very tasty! Tin Roof has an excellent cocktail program as does their Simmzy's locations. We started out with Brussel Sprouts. Definitely a hit with the whole table. Tin Roof definitely has the best around, flavorful with a nice crunch, never soggy! We all ordered a variery of starters for our first course. Several had Ceasar Salads. Several had the Watermelon and Feta Salad. One had the Bloddy Mary Deviled Eggs, and another had the Fig; Pistashio, and Cottage Cheese Toast. Everyone loved what they ordered. We were full before our next courses arrived! Our server was Malcolm. He was very attentive even though it was an extremely busy afternoon since it was Father's Day. He was very helpful explaining some of the options only offered on today's menu. They offered a Bistro Burger (five out of six of us ordered!) and I wanted to know how different this burger was from their Simmzy's Burger (my personal favorite). He was spot on, explained it was smokey in flavor and quite different with the pretzel bun. It was so.good, served with fries (best shoestring fries!), onion rings, and piled so high you had to use a fork and knife to eat it! We left beyond full! Definitely we will be back soon!
