I've been to The Marshal a few times for its farm-to-table goodness at dinner. The rustic interior is casually hip. Recently we came for Sunday brunch. Both of us had the Smoked Chicken and Hudson Valley Duck Bacon Hash with topped with poached eggs. Mine came with Esposito Bros pork sausage while Jonathan K. selected Berkshire bacon. Each serving came in its own little cast iron skillet and was so delicious! Everything is fresh and made from scratch. We gobbled our food pretty quickly. I was surprised that the Bloody Mary wasn't all that special, just ok and with less "fixings" than I would've expected, just an olive and a lemon slice. Service was friendly. We'll definitely be back again. The Marshal is usually fully booked so open an account at reserve.com (too bad that's the only way) and snag a spot. read more

This place was great! I really wish I could give it 4.5 stars, it really deserves that extra half a star. I went here a few weeks ago for dinner and it was great! We started off the burrata appetizer, which it is hard to go wrong with burrata. It came with a few different dips, balsamic and pesto which complemented the burrata perfectly. For the main course I ordered the scallops which couldn't have been prepared better! They were tender and soft, not over or underdone. the sauce they were in pulled the dish together really nicely. The staff were engaging and gave the restaurant and overall positive vibe! I have been here 3 times so far for pizza & salad & it's been great every time! Yesterday I had the traditional margarita pizza with the beet salad & deviled eggs that I shared with 2 friends. Everything was delicious, especially the deviled eggs. They look like they have bacon bits on them but really it's carrot chips along with a tasty, fresh green sauce. Just finished dinner here with my wife and we were absolutely thrilled with the food, service, and overall ambience. It's a cute small restaurant with a really intimate vibe, perfect for date night. We started off with the sweet potato and kale au gratin and the wood fire wings, both of which were fantastic. For our mains we had the braised lamb shank and the wood fired meatloaf. We thoroughly enjoyed both. The owner treated us to a delicious dessert of a home made fudge topped with vanilla ice cream, honeycomb, and fresh locally sourced honey. It was delicious. Overall a fantastic dining experience and as we live in the area we'll definitely be making this one of our regular dinner spots from now on. They advertise "farm to table" and I found that very accurate in the tomatoes used, very flavorful, not like your typical supermarket tomato! Also had the Roasted Brussels Sprout Salad, very good, but if your not an anchovy fan, you might consider staying away, very fishy, no mention of it on the menu, but many traditional Caesar dressings have anchovy. Seated us about 10 minutes before closing so that was nice, and no pressure to eat and get out. Other members in the family had the Margarita Pizza and found that excellent too. I will concede that the space is way small and the tables are too cramped for all the dishes you probably will want to order. If the weather is warm, you may want to consider a table outside. Luckily, we avoided the crowd by having an early dinner this past Saturday after a matinee b'way show. We did a little summer into autumn meal when we noticed the burrata on the menu, which was perfect with the brick oven loaf to sop all the flavors. We had a Sauvignon Blanc and the White Mule, an excellent ginger cocktail. For the autumn part of the meal we decided to share our main meal ordering the lamb shank on a bed of puree parsnip & turnip. A side of green beans with "farm"esan cheese and the mushrooms. We were on the fence about ordering the polenta because the table was so small and concerned about all the plates fitting - we were right it would have been too tight. The Syrah went well with this.. since we had some Syrah left over our waitress, Sarah recommended the chocolate fudge, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb for dessert.. a great way to go. Service was very friendly with many of the staff making conversation and asking how we enjoyed our meal - they are obviously excited and proud of the food/drinks they are putting out in their little space. We ended up at The Marshal yesterday after finding that Gotham West Market was opening late because it was New Year's Day. We ordered a wood-fired Margherita pizza and in about 10 minutes, a somewhat funny-looking pie turned up at our table. (See attached picture.) What we could not have predicted based on its appearance was how delicious the pizza would be. While the slices were a bit 'slidey' (not sure that I would opt for delivery) the crust, olive oil, tomato sauce, cheese and basil used made for the most amazing pie. I went with two other friends for brunch. One friend got the frittata that came with a side salad. My other friend got the sunny side eggs with polenta. She also ordered the biscuits that came with different jams and a bacon butter. I got the breakfast short rib hash with two poached eggs and a side of bacon. Nothing honestly stood out about our meals except the bacon. The bacon was so thick and delicious, but everything else was just basic breakfast food. Our service was just okay. Nothing extraordinary or friendly about our waitress. My friend and I went there for having a dinner night out. Place is little small! Even the place is small, they organize very well. As a starter we got some tomato meatballs which it was Meh! I believe that they should cook more. Mac and cheese was so giant and it was great. As a entree's I am really big fan of sea food and I had sea bass. Omg it was so delicious. This is likely to be a long review, and perhaps come in installments. We visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening about a month ago (around June 1) and it made for a very memorable event - and definitely not good. The concept is farm to table, rustic setting and the reviews looked great and so we decided to give them a try for an early dinner (before a show). First the good part - our waitress was amazingly good! The OK - it is a pretty new restaurant and so the NYC sanitary rating was "unrated". As it turned out they got their rating the following Monday and it is a "B" (download the ABCeats app) with 23 violation points and 3 critical violations which makes my experience even more scary. The bad: I cut into my chicken and not only was it undercooked and bloody but blood oozed out of the chicken! I was so appalled that I took it back, told them that I was not going to eat it. A few minutes later we get a visit from the manager who started telling us that she went to culinary school (so did my wife by the way) and that it was perfectly fine to eat it that way and that it was "more juicy" that way. She also told me exactly which farm this chicken came from - as if it was "sashimi grade chicken" or something! She came back a few minutes later with a literature article she had just printed out about bloody chicken written by some one with a Ph.D. (To impress me I guess, but I have a Ph.D. - so not overly impressed). Amazing! I am a total fan! Thank you for the wonderful manager that helped me keep my husband's surprise birthday party still a surprise! I managed to mess up the surprise by booking the reservation for 7:30 and everyone arrived at 7:15. My husband was to arrive at 7:30pm. So the manager earnestly plotted with me to keep everything hush hush. The food was outstanding. I got so many compliments for picking such a wonderful place. (Thanks! Its almost feels as good as if I cooked it myself... Ha!) We were stuffed to the brim with glorious roasted peaches, squash, cauliflower with cheese, bacon wrapped corn and the most delectable mac and cheese. The cauliflower was meaty and perfectly complemented with New York cheddar. The Mac and Cheese had crunchy crust; the corkscrew pasta absorbed much of the gooey Pennsylvania swiss cheese and Berkshire bacon bits. Perfect. (My friend caters, she's well traveled and has amazing taste in food. She is a tough cookie to please and she said this was the best mac and cheese she had ever had. My husband and I were like 'Whoa, this is high praise'). Everyone had a wonderful time and were not left for want. The service was superb. I know its annoying and douchy to ask the waitress to take pictures of your party when its a busy Saturday night but I asked anyways (I asked that she take pictures when she had more time). And the waitress was amazing (no rolling of eyes or sighs) and took several photos. The manager seated me and husband in the middle of the tables, while our friends hid around the corner, waiting for the tables to clear out. Thank you again for the amazing service! Irish whiskey was sadly poor quality - it felt mostly like a shot of whiskey with very little coffee or cream. Mac n cheese was nothing special - cheese was light and nice around the macaroni. Mac was perfect texture - soft to chew. I think they could do a few things to make their mac n cheese standout amongst the many options: spice it up, some herbs, toast the cheese at the top etc? Pizza - way too much cheese on each one. Made the pizza soggy and overshadowed the veggies and meat. They need to reduce the cheese on at least a few options. Perhaps make one of them spicy? Pepper flakes on Preserved Fig, Pancetta, and Blue Cheese Pizza made it way better than any of the other choices we had. read more

While I found the pizza from here pretty good, the very very long wait for delivery was not so good. Ordered from here twice and both times were among the longest waits for food delivery I have experienced. That means the pizza was only just a bit warm when it arrived. You can still order a full dinner at the bar and it looked more spacious than the regular dining tables. I ordered off the farm list and had a mushroom dish, polenta and arugula salad. My favorite was the mushroom dish because I love me some mushrooms! The arugula salad was your typical arugula with shredded cheese. The yelp reviews and pictures are not dependable because their menu is completely based on what's in season. I like the chicken with goat cheese, but the Brussels sprout salad In a light Caesar dressing stood out! The food in general wasn't prepared in a out of this world unique and creative way, but the quality of the food was the star of the show and spoke for itself. Happened upon this place after seeing a show in the area and so glad we did! The service was top notch and the food was delicious. The owner took great care of us and was very accommodating. We sat outside but were assured they had a ramp if we did want to eat indoors. And since we were outside, they brought us blankets, which was such a nice touch. I had the heirloom caprese pizza which was fantastic. The cold tomatoes and balsamic were lovely juxtaposed with the hot fresh pizza. This is a really small place and the food was very good. Glad we made reservations. They got us out in time for our 7pm show. The burrata was excellent. Very fresh and had a great flavor. We loved the stuffed chicken. The mussels were under cooked so we didn't eat them. The kitchen uses a wood pizza style fire oven so I figured they rushed the mussels to keep us on time. The tables like inside are cramped. They are sort of a cross between a picnic table and a school chair. The two top we sat at was definitely a tight fight though I am Over 6 feet. Their wine and alcohol list like there food is local. I think all of them were from New York. Service was okay though not great as waited awhile to order wine once finished and then oddly brought Rose instead of Chardonnay.
