While visiting Hyannis for work, I chose this restaurant because of the great Yelp reviews and Rachel Ray's visit. i'm so glad that I did. It is housed in the perfect New England style tavern, and the food matched the aesthetic for excellence. I'm always hungry for Clam Chowder when I come to Cape Cod, and this restaurant won the award for best clam chowder on the Cape. It was creamy and contained large chunks of clam. I chose the Jack Daniels cedar planked grilled salmon, and my friend had the tortilla crusted haddock. Both exceeded our expectations and left us very satisfied. Our waiter was a young guy, very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. He made the experience even better and was extremely patient given that we arrived just before closing time. I should preface this (mostly) glowing review by saying my husband and I got to go here on a very rare date night, so I was very excited to be out sans little person to begin with. We sat at the bar which was an even bigger treat, as we don't get to do that much nowadays. The bar staff was comprised of 2 very friendly and seasoned female bartenders who make us feel very welcome. Immediately loved the feel of the place, lots of old charm and an overall relaxing vibe. I chose the Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc, which is now my absolute white. The beer, wine, and cocktail offerings were stellar. Not one part of the food disappointed. We had the tuna appetizer which was some of the most vibrant red tuna I have seen in a long while. We then shared the beet goat cheese salad - absolutely fantastic. I ordered the lobster bisque as my entree. I do not ever want to know the calorie count for that concocotion, but it was worth every spoonful! My husband has the fra diavlo and it was hands-down the best one either of us have ever tasted. It actually had a flavorful spicy kick, not just crushed red pepper flakes in marinara. Loaded with seafood. A real gem. I debated about sharing the one demerit for Roadhouse, as it was surprising and hopefully just a momentary lapse in judgement on the part of the manager. A gentleman, who we could only deduce had some sort of managerial role came and sat at the end of the bar as everyone was finishing up (it was nearly 11:30 or so). To our surprise, he put his feet UP ON THE BAR. I am by no means a stiff or a stickler for ettiquette, but this left a bad taste in my mouth after such a wonderful evening. It just felt wrong in many ways, for sanitary reasons as well as respect for the bar itself, patrons, and bartenders. If you want to do that after everyone has gone fine. As a former bartender/waitress, I know the feeling of wanting to put your feet up and have a drink at the end of a long shift, but please wait until your patrons (who spent a decent amount of money all night!) have gone home. Despite the ending, we will definitely return next time in Hyannis and highly recommend this place overall! read more

We come yearly around this time of year. Had four diners tonight. Two filets, 1 sirloin, and 1 fra Diavlo. Filets looked ok, until a bug was found in one. That was returned and taken off the check but not offered a new dish. Sirloin was sent back as was over cooked. This was redone but came out so slowly all other meals were finished. The sauce then was bland. No consistency. I stopped eating the Diavlo as I was disgusted with the service and food results. Service was very slow ( 2 hours without apps or dessert). Waitress apologized that this season was the worst in her 10 years as the cook staff was entirely new. The manager took two meals off and gave us coupons to the black cat ( other restaurant they own). During the meal we overheard both tables near us send back their oysters (smelled bad) and the other table said the service was the worst they've ever had there. Sounds like this is not a good time to be going here with the new staff. It was a Thursday so expect that this is going to be the norm until they work the kinks. Again we go here yearly so this isn't what we expect for what you have to pay. read more

I chose this place simply because I drove by and saw the valet outside and asked him if their steaks were any good. Based on Jared's ( no relationship to subway or jewelry store, that I know of) recommendation I chose the Roadhouse Cafe. I do not drink alcohol, but my lush of wife tells me that the house signature cocktails were delicious and refreshing. Our waitress Kathy and the entire crew couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating and pleasant. The appetizers that we had were the chicken quesadillas, they were incredible, that's all I can say about them. They are a meal themselves. A little bit about the atmosphere, before we get to the main course. It's dark, slightly dated but has a cozy feel to it. However, I keep good company and my beautiful wife was a good enough of a distraction and watching her consume her booze allowed my mind to wonder as to where our evening escapades may lead. The main course was NY sirloin, potatoes and asparagus were perfect, I could go on but I won't. Just go there and enjoy the experience, trust me. I can't tell you about dessert because my intoxicated wife started to get all horny and we had to leave. If I were to tell you about dessert I would have to refer to another website. This place was great. The very nice hostess greeted us like we were family and engaged both my young sons. The waiter, Ralph was equally great. My wife has a food allergy and he was extremely patient and knowledgeable about the menu. Not to mention he does celebrity impression. Ask him to to do Mohamed Ali and Al Pacino. Here's the TOC for my review: reservation/hostess, service, food, ambiance, overall Reservation/hostess: Made a reservation for 8:30, arrived at 8:15, got seated at 8:50p despite seeing open tables from the time we got there till the time we got seated. Obviously that wasn't great but we sat at the bar and had a few drinks from the nice bartenders. The hostess seemed scared to talk to us. The manager (main hostess? no idea....but she seemed in charge) treated us like we weren't classy enough to be there. Maybe because we're under 45 and I wasn't wearing a classy sweater and boat shoes. Service: AWESOME waitress! She was nice, attentive, funny, and just generally seemed to be a good person....of which I always like to deal with. She made up for any coldness we felt from the manager/head-hostess lady-woman-person. Food: We started with cups of Clam Chowdah.....HOLY SHNIKES!! It was delicious!!! For the entrees, I had lobster and my date had a salmon dish (I think). The lobster was solid, reasonably priced ($38 for 1.5 lbs), and came with mashed potatoes. You can't really mess up lobster so I got nothing to say about that, the potatoes were meh.... My date's dish was tasty, large portions, and very solid. Ambiance: It was chill....felt very old cape (even though I know nothing about the cape)....nothing amazing or terrible. Overall: The food was good, the service was okay (waitress=amazing, hostess=lackluster, waiting for open table despite there clearly being open tables and having made a reservation=pretty awful), ambiance was chill. Hence my 3/5 stars. Seems to be one of the nicer places you can go in that area and it was worth it to get some nice seafood and enjoy my experience on the cape. read more

Spectacular. My boyfriend and I came out to Hyannis for a one night getaway after the hectic holidays. We drove around Main Street Hyannis to see which eateries were open and decided on Roadhouse when we saw "fireside dining". It was busy but not packed, which was a welcome surprise. The ambiance inside is lovely, with twinkly white lights, dark furniture, big windows and decorated mantels above the fireplace. Our server Amy was terrific- attentive, friendly, quick, but didn't intrude too much on our romantic dinner for two. She even double checked to make sure they were still serving what I ordered (shepards pie) before she put the ticket in. We ate here only 2 days before the restaurant closed for the winter season, but they still had a large selection and weren't out of anything. My boyfriend had a large Caesar salad with grilled chicken that he described as "melt in your mouth"... He was very satisfied. I had Shephard's Pie off the comfort foods menu. Whipped red potatoes were the perfect complement to the corn and beef. It was delicious and enough to take some home. We had such a good experience here and would absolutely come back. read more

One good thing about the off season on the Cape is a chance to get a great deal during Restaurant Week. I used this as a chance to check out the Roadhouse, a place I've been wanting to try for quite a while. After eating there, i am kicking myself for not going years ago, it was great. The place has a nice atmosphere. It's like being in someones house, a variety of different rooms, beamed ceilings, a couple of fireplaces, and a piano in one room. The menu is huge and includes seafood, steak, pasta, and a great appetizer selection. The servers were on their game, friendly, prompt, generally made it a very enjoyable experience. For entrees, we had the veal Parmesan which you could cut with a fork it was so tender. We also had the chicken homard, chicken stuffed with lobster and cheese. Again, it was tremendous. They have an appetizer on the menu called the Roadhouse Antipasto Tower. It has everything from stuffed mushrooms to clams casino to scallops wrapped in bacon. I didn't get it on this visit, but I will be going back to climb that tower. read more

Started with the "Award Winning" Clam Chowder. The waitress warned us that it was thinner than most and I should have changed it. It wasn't bad, just less flavor and far less stuff in it than expected. Got the fajita pizza (way too spicy) and chicken parm (Average at best) as entrees. That's it and 2 drinks total, bill was $60...not worth it. The decor was all over the place going from fancy to old-fashion to sports bar but not warm and welcoming. We've been dining at the Roadhouse since the early 80s. We had a so-so meal there in July 2013 but decided to give it another try this weekend. We made a reservation for 6:30 pm on Fri July 3rd. You'd think that 4th of July weekend the place would be packed but it was anything but. The restaurant wasn't even half full. When we asked for a both in the bar (3 f the 4 were open) they accomodated us but told us we'd need to wrap things up for an incoming 8 pm reservation. Fine - but there were still 2 additional booths available when we left at 8 pm. Positive: The hosts were very nice. Our server Jenna was wonderful! Super friendly. The bussers were always checking in/refilling waters, etc. Negative: The food was not at all what I remember. We started with the shrimp cocktail and the fried oysters. The shrimp cocktail was good. Shrimp were fresh. But the oysters were terrible. 1) They were luke warm and 2) the bellies were so big they were inedible. The fried oysters at the Roadhouse's sister restaurant (The Black Cat) are 100 times better. For entrees we had the fra diavlo ($34) and roasted day boat schrod ($21). The fra diavlo was dry (barely any sauce) and for the $$ did not include a lot of seafood. The schrod was also dry and tasteless. It was as if it was completely unseasoned. We didn't stay for dessert and will not be returning any time soon. read more

It kind of feels like you walked into an old ski lounge back when madonna was rocking. Food was given in large portions but generally kind of bland. Got the chicken parm and was less than impressed. Drinks were ehhh, with a kind of crappy selection of beer. It seemed crazy packed so maybe im missing something? For whatever reason, my boyfriend and I hadn't yet tried Roadhouse Cafe in our 3 prior trips to Hyannis. This year, we decided we would give it a go, and we were not disappointed. We arrived at 9:30 and were seated in the bistro section out back. We had made reservations, but it wasn't necessary -- there were only 3 tables occupied. There was a live pianist, and the piano was set up so you could sit at it and eat off of it (love that!). Ambiance was classy but true to its cape surroundings: upscale with lots of wood, dim lighting, and candlelight, but with paper tablecloths (lobster-fest style). Service was good - I ordered a mojito, but the waitress informed me they had no fresh mint, and offered me a glass of sangria instead. Great recommendation - it was delicious. I got a caesar salad and blackened fish tacos, and my boyfriend got chicken parm. My salad was great BUT - it was brought out literally INSTANTLY, and the plate was cold. If that doesn't say, "this has been sitting in the fridge", I don't know what does. Regardless, the lettuce was crisp, the dressing was tasty, and we cleaned the plate. My fish tacos were actually *seared* tuna, not blackened, and I just wasn't in the mood for seared fish, so I sent them back. The waitress was VERY gracious about the whole thing, and I got a cup of clam chowder instead, which was excellent. Cost-wise, I was surprised by how affordable the whole meal was, given that it seems to be one of the higher-end restaurants in Hyannis. Fish entrees were in the mid-20's, better steak was in the 30's-range, and there were other pasta dishes, etc. that were less than 20. That's a typical night out around Boston, and not a bank-breaker as I had anticipated. I loved the whole experience as well as the dishes we ordered, and I will definitely be back again! read more

We tried fish tacos and two chicken entrees chicken bruschetta and chicken saltimbocca, all the items were delicious! My daughter selected this for her birthday dinner, and we were not disappointed! She needs the gluten-free menu, and judges this one of the best. Her steak was perfect. I'm a meat loaf fan, and the recipe and presentation here was superior to most. I esp. appreciated that everything was NOT all piled together, but nicely arranged. Our other entrees were equally well prepared and the service was excellent. With toddle in tow, this still proved to be a great evening. The word that comes to mind when I think of our experience here is BLAH! Nothing about this place stood out at all. It is incredibly dark inside to the point where I could barely see the menu with the light from my phone. Good thing it's dark because it's really ugly inside. Not only is it dark and poorly decorated, it's also incredibly crowded. We came over 4th of July weekend and this place was packed. We were seated by the women's bathroom so there was constantly a line of women patiently awaiting to use it. There was also a large group of people sitting right next to us and they were beyond annoying! We were really looking forward to trying this place because of the Yelp reviews but we found the food to be average and nothing special. I went this evening for dinner-with my wife while we were in town. I asked for a McCallan 18, I was told by the waitress(no fault of hers) that it was taking awhile because the bartender had to get a bottle out of the basement. My wife's cocktail came and then my scotch arrives, I have been drinking McCallan for many years and knew instantly I was not drinking McCallan 18 I called the manager out on it and he said I will find out, he took my drink and came back with a fresh one. His words to me were your right she gave you McCallan 12 single barrel. At $35 a glass you would think the bartender would know better or she thought I would not know the difference well she was wrong . Had dinner in the Tavern, turned out to be a great spot on a cold and quiet night for the mid-winter Cape. Spent some time with a roaring fire and cozy seats, a great hostess, and a very nice bowl of the Codfish chowder. Large pieces of soft local Cod in a creamy, unthickened broth. Warm and rich buttery flavor, with the spice of fresh cracked black pepper. Simple but effective. read more

Was completely unaware that Roadhouse existed, hidden behind Main Street. I've been to Columbo's a number of times, and I think Roadhouse nails it even better. A bit overwhelmed by the sheer size and depth of the menu (all printed in tiny, tiny slab serif font... sigh) I dove into the wine menu first. We chose an off the shelf beer and a glass of malbec that was lovely. Skipping apps, we both went for parmesean, myself the veal, and my date the chicken. The salad that appeared first was a great italian light dressing, not overdone. The parmeseans themselves were both fabulous, as was the pasta and sauce. This was really authentically great high end italian... the service was truly attentive (almost too much so, it was empty on a Wed. night). The seafood items on menu seemed great, and the specials needed their own page. I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

We are currently visiting Cape Cod for my husband's training course, but I tagged along since it fell on the dates of our anniversary. I searched Yelp for advice on some highly recommended places to eat and initially decided to try out another restaurant when I caught a glance of Roadhouse Cafe from the outside passing by. It looked elegant and romantic, so we decided to change plans after we confirmed on Yelp that it had good reviews. We didn't have reservations, arrived at 7pm, and were still seated at a nice table in the back room where they featured a live pianist. My first impression of the place was that it was much larger on the inside than it looked on the outside! The decor was classic, with dim lighting to set the mood. The wait staff was helpful and courteous, going as far as to recommend some places in the Cape that we needed to check out during our visit. I can also say that fellow diners at the restaurant were super nice and personable. A woman at the table next to us must have overheard us deciding on ordering the lobster bake (which she and the rest of her family had all just ordered and didn't finish), because she intervened and told us that she wanted us to order something else because she "didn't want us to waste our money." We took her advice and ordered instead some steak, boiled lobster tails, and a seafood casserole. All dishes were great. We would definitely dine here again and will recommend this restaurant to any of our friends that we know plan to visit Cape Cod in the future. read more

My husband and I and another couple had dinner at the Roadhouse last Saturday evening. We've all been many times. 2 of us ordered the diver scallops and found the sauce to be too sweet and overpowering and the scallops had no sear at all. The server brought another option. The other meals were very good. Bread, water was never replenished. The service was hectic. The server was almost sprinting from table to table. It did not make for a relaxing dinner. We ordered two desserts. After a long wait, we learned that the brownie sundae was not available. The cappuccino and Baileys I ordered arrived separately and by the time the Baileys arrived, the cappuccino was cold. The new manager, Ted, was stopping to check on diners at other tables and I called him over to ours. We told him about the service issues. He was very gracious and took care of everything. He's a great addition to the restaurant and left us wanting to return. If you haven't been here in a while, give it another try. read more

We were disappointed because our waitress that night was terrible. We didn't let that experience keep us from going back because we really like the ambiance and love the food. One of the best restaurants in Hyannis, Always the best service, we usually sit at the bar and Scott is one of the best bartenders and servers we have ever had take care of us. In the past we had young children and this is the place to go early (5:00pm) and have dinner, they cater to kids and special requests. We have been going for 27 plus years. Now our kids are grown and we enjoy sitting at the bar and having top notch service and wonderful a dinner! 5 stars always. read more

After the waitress takes you drink order- start the timer on you phone 33 min. this year 2019: 38 min. last year 2018. Food did not come out at the correct temperature, my swordfish was not a good cut, and my dinner came out before my salad. Not good management here. 1 bartender for everyone - the bar was full so she tended to them 1st. I went & asked if she had anyone else crossed trained to help her out-NO was the answer. My girls are not easily impressed and this restaurant has a eachother great atmosphere, very courteous ' professional staff. The boratta was excellent and Soo Fresh. Lobster, Chowder, steamers, Lobster Salad, Oysters, deserts on and on the experience goes. Service was perfect. There wasn't one thing that they fell short on. We would go go to this restaurant every night if we lived in the area. We Love in Westchester NY and frequently spend time in NYC. If you read any negative reviews? Tonight was the first time dining here. We were spoiled because this is a snowy weekend in March so it was fairly quiet and no need for reservations. My husband and our 2 boys had lobsters. I had scallops with kale and couscous and the chowder. Being big seafood lovers from RI, we can be a little picky with our seafood but everything was cooked perfectly. The chowder was delicious! The service was very good. Our waitress Kirsten (sorry if I spelled it wrong) was excellent as well. I really loved the atmosphere too. It reminded me of Woodstock Brewery in NH- really nice. We made a reservation for a Tuesday evening a 6pm. We arrived and the table for 2 they offered us had us closer to the people at the next table then we were to each other. It was uncomfortable for us and the people at the adjacent table. We went back and requested a better table which there were several empty tables. We were told that was all they had. We were there on time for our reservation and better tables were available??? Not sure what they were thinking, but we left and will not return. It is their lose we dine out a bit. My fiancé and I were vacationing in cape cod, and were looking for a nice dinner restaurant. Read good reviews for roadhouse, and after checking the menu decided to try it out... I ordered the southern surf n turf which consisted of baby back ribs and shrimp, she ordered the sirloin... DELICIOUS! They also have one of the best clam chowders I have ever tasted! 6 people had dinner at the roadhouse at 5:30 last night (Saturday night). When we arrived we probably the first people there. We had the rudest waitress any of us have ever had and we dine out frequently. We always enjoyed the roadhouse in the past but the waitress told us by asking for separate checks we were making it difficult for her. If we asked her for anything she made us feel like we were putting her out. Out of 6 people 4 were unhappy with the food. We all agree we will not be returning. read more

I had the Crab and Seaweed Salad as my entree....there was more crab than salad vege, 2 fistfulls of crab were dunked on the plate.....!!! The lobster bisque was wayyyy to creamy though. We are finishing a wonderful family dinner for 13 family members visiting for the holiday. We came when they opened at 4pm on Sunday and made the best choice! We each had something different with delicious choices like Lobster Ravioli, Scallops, Salmon, Lobster, Chicken Fried chicken, and kids fish and chips and pasta. Finally a meal that I could call great on the cape. In an area that is so rich in seafood and tourism, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a restaurant that has decent food. In the end you have to pay for it though. The Roadhouse Cafe is not cheap even though the name makes it seem like a hillbilly bar from a Patrick Swayze movie. That couldn't be further from the truth. From the moment you enter the parking lot, with valet parking, you will feel special and well cared for. Our waitress was especially friendly and attentive. The dining room is very dimly lit and the service is drawn out, so make it a date night rather than a quick bite. I ordered the clams casino for an appetizer which was on the small side and nothing incredible but the Seafood Fra Diavolo entree was a good sized portion full of lobster, shrimp, and most notably scallops in a flavorful and spicy marinara sauce. If you do go I highly suggest reservations. We went on a weekday night around 7 or so in the "off season" and the hostess seemed hesitant in giving us a table. read more
