The third time I had the short rib grilled cheese THAT was really tasty. Fries were better than the first time too. Anyhow I still don't want to try the chili or hotdogs again. We unexpectedly discovered this place the day before & decided to try it. What a pleasant surprise. I had the French Onion Soup Burger, & Hubby tried a sandwich. The burger is delicious and very creative, onion soup/broth included. I don't eat too much red meat, but the meat in the sandwich was so flavorful. Large fries were more than enough for 2 people. We also got to sample Vanilla Custard. My only complaint was that I asked for ranch dressing but never got it. The server was busy but friendly, so I didn't hold it against her. read more

Amazing food and even better atmosphere. My first time here and I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options but the staff was quick to help and offered recommendations. Finally decided on the short rib grilled cheese with onion rings while my sister ordered the Cobb Salad. A slight wait but completely worth it. Loved the sandwich but when I say the onion rings are good, I mean GOOD. Perfectly crisp with batter that doesn't separate from the onion. The salad was refreshing and light but filling at the same time. All the food tasted fresh and made to order. Their manager, Esli, checked on our table multiple times and made sure we had everything we needed. Sauce, refills, napkins, you name it and he had it ready before we even asked. Delicious burgers, salads, fries and even hot dogs. We followed The Stand from Westwood to the valley and now to Pasadena. (They also have a branch in Century City, which is basically serves a weekday lunch crowd. I am sure we'd be regulars there if evening and weekend hours penciled out for them.) If you like spicy food, you've got to try the Fire Fries, which are crispy and coated in a fire-hot Buffalo-like sauce. And on any of their sandwiches, I recommend a double-helping of the crunchy dill pickle chips. ***An earlier review for the Pasadena location -- shortly after opening -- praised the food but deducted stars for lapses in service. The food here is good and comparable to Dog Haus but let me tell you about their cookies and cobbler. They sell different assortments of cookies at the front counter that are soft and delicious. They also have a peach cobbler that comes with ice cream and are just delightful together. My mom was craving a goooood type of burger. Nothing like the stuff you have nowadays like all the fast food chains. A really good authentic burger. I yelped because I was in the area and came about The Stand. Great location!! Not too far from the hustle and bustle of old town Pasadena. The burgers.....well.....were ugggghhhmazing!!! thick , fat, juicy hamburger patty! Delicious crispy bun!!! Pickles were delicious!! It was just what my mom wanted and more!! It took time to get our orders but definitely worth the wait! Cooked to perfection!! I'm not a big burger person but will admit, this burger was everything and more! We live in the IE but will definitely make the drive back out to Pasadena just for The Stand!!! 5 stars isn't enough! It was so good that I didn't even take a picture lol. read more

Pre-pandemic, this place was one of our favorites for a good Sunday meal on site; great food, great service, and an awesome view of the Pasadena Playhouse. We had picked up "to go" food here for the past year on an almost weekly basis and there was never a complaint; seriously, the onion rings have no comparison. Fast forward 15 months and we are finally back on site for the same good food, same great service, and the same amazing view at sunset. It was my husband's first time out (we had to be careful because my elderly mom has conditions that put her as prime mortality candidate for COVID-19), but being fully vaccinated and hungry, the staff here made it the obvious choice for his first outing. We split the Chimmy Salad and a cheeseburger. Both were delicious. The steak on the Chimmy salad was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. The sauce on it was delicious. It was slightly overdressed, so I would recommend light dressing or on the side. The burger was great, the meat really good and altogether delish. The stand is always quick and delicious! Christina was the cashier that helped me and she brightened my day when I was feeling down.

Everything here is pretty delicious, but know what you're getting into before you come! Super greasy, super heavy, your diet won't be happy. You also might get tired of the heavy flavors before you finish your meal, so I'd recommend sharing!! My boyfriend loves over ordering, but next time, I'm forcing him to share ONE burger and ONE small fries with me. My favorite thing here is the sauces. The chimichurri, the sweet aioli, the lime aioli, the fire sauce... all super good! The fire sauce is extremely spicy though, FYI. If I came back, I'd definitely get a bunch of fries to dip!! The onion rings are really good too. Perfect batter and sorta sweet. It doesn't pair as well with the sauces though, because it has its own flavor. I would recommend this if it were anywhere else, but I'll probably not reorder because I need stomach room for the fries and sauces!! The heath bar cookie was amazing, though pricey at $2/cookie. I wish I had their recipe. The porchetta fries were okay, but heavy. I'd definitely share this with 4-5 people. I wish it had more apples to balance it out! It gets kinda gross near the middle because the sauce to fry ratio keeps increasing, as people eat. Probably would not reorder. The El Capitan burger was good, but not my fave. I guess I'm not that big of a fan of the texture of the short rib. But if you are, you'll probably enjoy this. The hot dogs were just average. This is probably the only thing on their menu I would say is a miss. Ohh!! And ask for pickles. So delicious! read more

The food was really tasty, and everything was fresh. It took about 20 minutes from order to table, but I believe that the steak takes a bit more time than other menu items. They should try to improve the time it takes to put out the food. The place was empty when we visited, so I can only imagine how long it would take with a full house. From their website: "The Stand delivers quality, speed and a diverse menu designed to meet everyone's needs." We tried two of their salads: - Southwest Chicken Salad (marinated grilled chicken, romaine, guacamole, ranch and bbq dressing) - Chimmy Steak Salad (marinated steak, spring greens, chimichurri, corn salsa, balsamic vinaigrette) The portions are big and definitely worth the $11-13 you're spending. There is plenty of seating, both inside and outside on either side of the restaurant. This place has to be one of my favorite spots ever. I've never had a bad meal (both dining in and to-go), and we've tried almost everything over the last couple of years. I work locally and come here for lunch often, but I also bring my people back during off hours because I just love it so much. But let me tell you my favorite part of this place ... the customer service is unmatched. The entire staff is amazing. I couldn't even tell you which one is the manager because they all take pride in their work and treat every guest with respect. Came in for a late lunch and to kill a bit of time while I waited for my wife to show up after a meeting she was having. I ordered the Stand Hef and The Chicken Cilantro Dog. The dog was delicious, I did not want to spill so I decided to use a fork and knife, yeah lame but really, you don't want to spill any of these awesome toppings avocado, cashews, onions, slaw, wow and the chicken cilantro sausage was sublime. Everything loaded on to a fresh roll that was perfect strong enough to soak up the toppings without falling apart. Great beer too, I orders a second Hef. If you are ordering food to be delivered, don't bother ordering fries or onion rings. The Stand makes absolutely no attempt to package them in a way to prevent them from getting soggy. I understand that packaging the fried sides to prevent them from getting soggy is difficult, however a few other restaurants do make an attempt and I know there is packaging made specifically to minimize the problem. That aside, the burgers are good, it's just disappointing to consistently get the soggy (and I mean they are just shy of mush) fries and rings. read more
