I had a terrible experience at this dealership. I found a used car that they had posted online and emailed the internet sales manager (Ashley) asking if there was anything that could be done to get the final out-the-door price down a bit, as the car I was interested in was just outside my price range. The sticker price after taxes and fees was $18,900 ($16,995 before taxes/fees). I told Ashley that this was too much for me. After a couple of emails back and forth, we were able to settle on a price of $18,000 out the door (a number that ASHLEY had countered my $17,500 with). I live in Bakersfield, CA, which is 175 miles northwest (a 6 hour round trip) so I made absolutely sure this car was something I wanted and could afford before making the drive to Redlands. Ashley was friendly enough when I arrived. She had gotten all the paperwork ready and filled out before I arrived to speed up the process for me, which was nice. We took a test drive and everything on the car was nice and worked great. It was fairly dirty though (crumbs in several places, dried gunk on the inside of the passenger door, stains in the headliner, etc...) Ashley said she would have it cleaned (for a second time). As she was gone having the car cleaned again, I sat down with their finance director. After reviewing the invoice for the vehicle, I asked the finance director what the cost would be if paid in full, out the door: $18,900.. Not a penny off the original sticker price as Ashely had promised. The director said there is no way that they can go any lower on the sticker price and he didn't know why Ashley had said they could do $18,000. He basically put up a bunch of smoke and mirrors, although he did take $500 off the total (rather than the $900 I was promised) but he had to include an extended warranty to do that, which brought my total to just over $21,000 now. $2,900 will be able to be refunded in 6 years after the loan has been paid off and I have not actually used the warranty to get anything fixed. I was fine with that, but still upset that I didn't get the original deal that was agreed upon, as my payments are almost $40 more per month with the warranty tacked on. Fairly frustrated and ready to get off that lot, I did a very quick walk around with Ashley and she told me they were unable to remove the stains from the headliner because it needs to be conditioned. She told me (I did not ask) to go ahead and get the headliner conditioned and send her the bill. I said great. Two days later, I sent Ashley pictures of what needed to be cleaned and gave her the amount I was quoted for the job. She called me and said that they will not pay for anything. Instead, they wanted me to make another 6 hour round-trip drive back down the their dealership to have them clean the car FOR A THIRD time with no guarantee of any improvements. read more

Left my car dirty after serving ( black gunk all over my starring wheel and dash, when they didn't need any work on the inside) they also over charged for a part that they said was cheeper over the phone and charged more for when I got to the payment desk! I also spent 20 looking for my car cause the receptionist didn't tell me where it was it was till an older man saw me wondering looking and he went to find it! Very poor. I took my 12,000 mile 2020 ZR2 Bison off road truck in because it had got mud in the alternator from driving down a muddy road (a public road - not even off roading!) and had broken down. They refused to repair it under warranty and charged me over $900. How can a specialist off road vehicle like the Bison not be able to drive on a muddy road? There was a Prius on the road at the same time and he was fine!!! The service department at Tom Bell wouldn't listen, refused to help at all, and just said it wasn't their problem and that I should contact Chevrolet. They also left me stranded with no car for three days while the repair was undertaken. I contacted Chevrolet and they said that, if the dealer had bothered to explain the situation, that the parts would have been covered under warranty. read more

We own a Chevy Bolt, and we were headed up to the mountains on vacation. As was our plan, we stopped to charge the car in Redlands. The problem was that we could not get any chargers to plug into the car. In desperation, we came to Tom Bell Chevrolet. I knew that this was not a problem that could be fixed in a moment; parts would have to be ordered, etc. But their people were very kind to try to see what they could do, especially the service manager. While he was searching for parts, my wife and I prayed that God's will would be done in the situation. The service manager returned, and he was very gentle in explaining to me that they didn't have the parts and so it couldn't be fixed today. I told him that I knew that, but that I hoped that they might see something simple that could be fixed or worked around as a temporary measure. He took that to heart, and we went back over and looked at the car. His theory was that there is a mechanism that locks the charging cable in place when the car door is locked, and that must have gotten stuck. We talked about it, and he looked and saw that there was a little piece that looked sort of out of place. He went and got a tool with a hook on it and played with it a little bit and that peace drop down and the whole mechanism opened up so that a charging cable could be inserted. It was his extra effort and willingness to try to help a customer that was, in my view, an answer to prayer. We were able to charge the car, and continue on to Big Bear. I am grateful to the service department at Tom Bell Chevrolet, and to their service manager. I thank God for you, and know I will always remember the help that you gave me. read more

Was in on 2/19/2022 to hopefully purchase a new/used vehicle... Let me tell you that was a huge mistake. After test driving 2, decided to see what kind of offer I could get. I explicitly told the salesperson that I have an approved loan to work with and he does not need to run my credit score.. I told him 5 separate times that I did not want my credit score run as I didn't want the hard inquiry on my record. After going back and forth a few times, we agreed on a price and I was waiting to be sent to the finance office when I got 3 notifications that I had my credit score run by them. When I asked why they did it I was told that they needed it to access the loan from the credit union.... I smell B.S. when I told the man behind the desk that I told the salesperson 5 times not to do it, he simply said that he was told by the salesperson that I had approved it, all while the salesperson was standing there lieing his ass off saying the the told me it had to be done. Needless to say.. I did not purchase the vehicle and made it quite clear that I would never consider them again for any future purchases. As I was leaving, the floor manager asked which h vehicle I wa taking home and I explained what happened and he said he was sorry and what can he do to get me in the car...mind you not fix the problem, but get me to buy the car. Thw follow up has begun.. received a call from the salesperson yesterday apologizing for the miscommunication and wanted to know what he cold so to sell me the car.... absolutely nothing... He sat my son and I down and wanted my personal information and said that they would need to do a soft pull om my credit before giving me numbers. I told the salesman that that's not going to happen and that I just wanted to know the special deal/price because of the 2.9 interest rate. the salesman brought in a guy named Jim who said he was the sales manager. He proceed to act cocky when I said I'm not going to agree for them to run my credit and that I wanted the price on the truck. Jim said we are not giving any numbers til we pull your credit and he sarcastically told me " You need to help me here" . That's when I helped myself and left the office. So I do after them insisting. So my appointment is set for 3:30 pm. When I was there I seen a truck that I liked and I told them what I could afford and what payments I could do, they appraised my car and told me that they could get me in for WAY more than I could afford. To make things worse they kept me there trying to get me to commit to payments I couldn't make and give them a down payment I didn't have nor could I get. They kept putting off giving me my keys so I could leave even after I told them that I have been up for over 24 hours. Found a nice preowned vehicle on their lot. Made the initial contact through internet/email with thier Internet sales guy. He sent me the "E Price" which was great. Told him what my trade in had been valued at, even did the steps through their link. All fell in line with what i was looking for as far as numbers. I have been looking at cars for a week already , so I knew what my trade was worth. (high and low) The debacle happened when I drove out to redlands, from cerritios, in 120+ degree weather on a Sunday, after a nice test drive in "said" vehicle, when the sales guy and his floor manager (thats what he called himself) came back out. I had a few questions about the "said" vehicle, but my first question was how much they were going to give me for my trade. I had already been approved through my credit union for a loan so I am not quite sure WHY they they would need my personal financials. I was not going to do financing through them. They asked a few questions about my car and they dissapeared for a few more minutes. I had also made the DUMB mistake of telling them what my loan amount was for. With their paper in hand and all the upcharges, out the door price was almost $40k and my trade in value was no where near even the low end. But they were going to give me all the special paint, and flashing rear brake lights, and the " E price" i was quoted (i have it in writing) was now $3k+ more. Need less to say I was beyond seeing red at the pure dishonesty on their part. I asked for my keys to leave. I don't know if these guys were rookies or just have no integrity. Floor guy was now blaming sales guy because he didn't know he had already sent me a price and NOW he was willing to give me the value i wanted on my trade. Even told me as I'm walking out if I change my mind he'll give me the deal. Are you kidding me?? I was so over Tom Bell Chevrolet and their mediocre sales people and Floor managers. I should have checked the yelp and google reviews before walking on here. Yelp has them at 2.5 stars. YIKES! Here is a PSA, the car i was interested in would have been a nice SUV for our lifestyle. BUT make sure you check the tires!!! It had 3 different brands and 3 different treds. I'm not sure if this is normal for preowned cars? Every car I have ever bought has always had the same 4 brand/size/tred. This bugged me as much as the sales tactics here. Jason (sales guy) and Pete (Floor manager) really need to brush up on their skills to be sales professionals. Starting with all the HIGH numbers to make customers feel like you are really working with them, not a great tactic. Looks like the E price was just a slimy way of getting me in the door, then rookie mistake of not sharing that E price with Floor manager. I asked very simple questions. Dropped off my 2020 traverse for service on 1/13/21 at 10 am. The "promised" time on my paperwork says 12:00. They couldn't provide a rental or complimentary drop off, which I didn't mind making arrangements for a couple of hours. Called at 3 pm since I didn't hear from them, they said one more hour and ten minutes, called back at 4:30 pm and they said one more hour. The lack of transparency is the reason for bad review, they have not been working on m car all these hours, since it was a warranty fix there wasn't going to be any out of pocket payment,so they put it off till the end clearly why it's going to be ready right at 6 pm which is the time they close. ***Freddy is a liar. Potential Buyers be aware*** I know this is long but I wanted to cover our whole terrible experience (except for the nice salesman Jerry) Ok, so where do I start? So, we went to look at a Tahoe and met a really nice sales associate by the name of Jerry. He was very kind and patient throughout the whole process. We went through all the steps of preparing to buy the vehicle we were looking at. It was now time to run numbers and he went to get the person for that part of the process. In comes Freddy. From the beginning this person seemed grumpy and unfriendly. He walks up with the sheet and of course it has every upsell imaginable which is normal I guess. The price was nowhere near where we said we wanted/needed it to be. I get it, it is a dealership and it's time for the back and forth that I never look forward to dealing with. I let him know that I understand how it works and I really don't want to do the back n forth and I handed him a form of my credit score (I just recently ran my credit and provided my credit score), this is my budget, and this is our absolute highest amount we wanted to go. I even gave him a Kelly blue book instant cash offer from a previous dealership for our trade in vehicle. The number he came back with was so ridiculous I honestly felt disrespected. Again, I get it, this is a car dealership and you need to make money. I told him that the offer for our trade in was extremely low (less than half of the offer from the previous dealership). When we got there, we were told that they pay the top value for trade-ins. This was not the case. As a matter of fact, this was far from the case. When the negotiation was occurring, I told Freddy that we need to get this price somewhere much closer to the number of our budget I previously mentioned. He tried to tell me in a whisper that we can remove some of these extra options like he was cutting me a deal or giving me some special insider hook-up. It was for the Gap, Security Alarm, some Brake Safety Feature and Extended Warranty. These are options that every dealership tries to upsell you on. I told him; ok, I appreciate you trying to work with me on getting to the number we need the monthly payment to be at but the amount of the trade-in is significantly low, as the paper I gave him showed another dealership is willing to offer more than double. It was a big slap in the face. Also, he never once brought up lowering the price of the vehicle we are trying to purchase. Again, I understand that is not a tactic that dealerships do as they try to make the most money as possible. I brought this up to try and negotiate the high price of the vehicle down a bit. The sale price was priced much higher than the blue book value of the vehicle and still, not willing to bring it down a cent. He tried to tell me the dealership paid $35,000 for this vehicle that they have advertised for $36,900. I told him I have purchased many vehicles from dealerships and I used to work at a dealership as well, so I know that most, if not all dealerships do not buy a vehicle for that much and only mark it up $1,900. I told him, I get the dealership has to make money, but please have respect for me by not lying to me. He said, oh...well, even if we paid less for it, we still have a bunch of things to do to it. I told him, I don't appreciate being lied to. I told you from the beginning I have dealt with other dealerships who have lied to us and that's when we would leave. We appreciate honest dealerships, honest sales persons and honest managers. Now, when we first met Freddy, he told me that today was his day off and he had to leave a party to come in and cover a shift because someone called off. Now, if Freddy was upset because he had to come in on his day off, maybe Freddy shouldn't be in this position. I felt like Freddy was not willing to work with us because he wanted to leave and go to his party. Now if that is the case, we should have had the opportunity to work with someone else, so we could have worked out a better deal and left with the vehicle. By this time, it was nearing closing time so this is more than likely the case because he wanted to leave as opposed to staying and doing all the closing paperwork for the sale. I am very disappointed in this particular dealership. Yes, this is my first experience at this dealership, and it is going to be my last. I am going to make sure everyone who visits this dealership understands how you guys operate and know what to expect if they have any interaction with Freddy. He is going to go back and forth pretending to work with you until he wears you out and you give up and just pay the highly marked up price they're going for to make as much commission they possibly can. This is a shame because I read many positive reviews and experiences others had here. They must not have had to deal with Freddy or Freddy didn't have a party to attend that day. read more

Truck was dropped off at 9 am for a due bill which included detailing, a second key, and a driver side mirror replacement. Approximately 3 pm I asked about the status of my truck and was informed that it would not be available until noon the next day. I was promised same day if I dropped off in the morning. I then asked when did the truck get to the detailers. I was informed it was there at 2 pm. Why would I schedule and be promised an appointment at 9 with same day return if my truck is going to sit in the lot? A key is estimated 30 mins to program and cut, I'll give the service team a hour for a mirror even though that is more than enough time. If I schedule an appointment and miss it then I have to reschedule but your service department can sit on their job and everything is supposed to be okay? By far the worst service. I will not be going back to Tom bell for any scheduling of services or to purchase a vehicle. You have a terrible reputation when it comes to your ratings and I was like you know what let me give them a chance and sure enough, your dealership lives up to the piss poor reviews. I will highlight that Chance and Duran (I believe is how you spell it) is excellent but other than that, you either need to train, motivate, or replace your employees. Let's just say we had some ups and downs but there's been turnover and everyone I dealt with recently was very professional, from bottom to top. Special kudos to the owner who clearly cares about his customers as well as his employees, which isn't always the case in our world these days. I'm holding out giving a full five stars til I have my next experience there, but honestly, I would absolutely recommend this dealership for both purchasing and servicing your vehicle.
