Up Thai located on the upper east side offers a great Thai menu. A very modern and warm dining environment with it being a little upscale but not feeling like you are out of place as well. It can be a causal or a nice date night spot. The menu featuring a unique Thai style street food options, modern classic dishes, and classic cocktail options. The service was great and all of the food was delicious with great flavor.
Absolutely incredible Thai cuisine. Been eating here for the past 5 years and it never disappoints! The flavors are immaculate and perfect. Service is great, can get busy however staff is friendly. Even when ordering through third party delivery services, it never lacks in quality. Love the basil fried rice, red and green curry. Interior is gorgeous.
For that price, i was expecting something better for $24 something that's including tip. Overpriced garbage! (We didn't asks to be seated) The wait was crazy for that bullshhh mango sticky rice. Also I felt like the person who handed me the bag lack customer etiquette you handed me a paper bag like you're handing me a rag or a bucket. this place is very disappointing and it was my first and last time ever going there. I hope they see this review.. if I could give this place no stars I would.
Still Good Thai food in one of the prettiest restaurants. There are plenty of Thai places on the Upper East Side and this is one is pretty solid. Panang Curry - a Thai curry with a creamy coconut texture and a sweet, aromatic spicy flavor. Thai Basil Shrimp - nice and spicy with string beans, peppers and fresh basil. Service was friendly but there were 4 of us and 2 dishes came came to the table a good 5-6 minutes before the others so by the time everyone got their food and we started eating, mine was not as hot as I would have liked. It was still really good!
From the minute we stepped into UpThai to check in, to the friendliness of the staff, the menu recommendations and the authenticity of the food, the incredible flavor on all dishes we enjoyed to the time we spent without rush - an experience I can only recommend when in the city. I have been a customer of UpThai for a few years whenever I come to town and the consistency is yet another reason to recommend it. The team cares, the food is amazing and options are plenty. All at a decent price. And please do try all of the duck dishes. Hands down out of this world. Go team UpThai!
The line gets very long here, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation beforehand. The restaurant looks small and unassuming from outside, but is very cute, spacious, and well-decorated once you enter. I really liked the similan curry. It was sweet and creamy with the perfect touch of spice. It came with a sweet pickled cucumber salad, which paired well with the curry, as well as roti and rice. The pad kee mao didn't stand out to me as much, but was still solid. Overall, pretty good thai food at an affordable price.
A book club friend recommended this spot and I am so glad she did!! From the outside, you would not realize how cute the restaurant is inside. I dined solo at the bar which was an amazing experience. The bartenders and staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food was incredible - I got their mango avocado salad to start which was so refreshing and flavorful. I got the massaman curry with the crispy duck and boy was that good. The food was so good. Would definitely go back! They do a lot of takeout orders as well!
Restaurant is very spacious in its location and has a very quiet ambience to it. I was very surprised to see the decor when we ate-- i just wasn't expecting it to be so nice. Not a place where you have to be too dressy so do not worry. The service was fast and the servers were so nice. They were also very helpful in any questions we had. We ordered the steamed mussels for an appetizer and it was good. I think it just isn't as fulling as i would want it to be for a shared appetizer so i prob would have gone with something else next time. We shared pad Thai with mock duck (WOW! Never had duck on pad Thai i went to Thailand) -- def a game changer. We also had the kea mao with beef which is flat noodles either some spice to it which also was delicious. The last meal we shared was the kana moo krab which was rice with and egg, steamed Chinese broccoli and pork. I always love to get a Thai iced tea when I'm in one of these restaurants and we also shared the lychee iced tea which was good but a little sweet (in case that's some thing you look out for). Definitely a spot i would go to again
A neighborhood go to spot for years! Up Thai is always solid and my personal favorite on the UES (where there are an abundance of Thai restaurants). The inside is well decorated and although it is often busy, it usually does not take long to get a table. This time we tried their salmon spicy rice special which was so flavorful and delicious. The sauce was perfectly spicy and added a nice kick and the salmon was very crispy. Also enjoyed the curry puff which had a flaky pastry and delicious filling. I have also gotten takeout from here and it is just as good. Will definitely go back.
Just had to come here at the recommendation of Marianne w. Hole in the mall place on 2nd avenue near 74th Street upper East side New York City. Wife have the $26 Suki dish with glass noodles shrimp chicken and vegetables along with breaded squid in a mildly spicy sauce. I had the $35 beef short rib Penang with brown rice. Dish came with slice sweet potatoes and several hunks of beef on bone in a spicy sauce along with green beans. Both of us loved our dishes and look forward to seeing Marianne come here to try the dishes. Hopefully she'll find some dishes without spice and without tomato sauce so that she can leave standing up.
4.2 / 5.0 You can eat authentic Thai food here! The atmosphere is like a bar, but there is also table seating. The lunch set allows you to choose your appetizer and main course. The pad dai I ordered was delicious and the spiciness could be adjusted. The staff were very kind, so I would recommend it even if you have children.

This place is amazing! The menu is large as well as the portions. Each dish was delicious! We arrived right before rush hour and were able to be seated immediately despite not having a reservation. Our server was friendly and the restaurant itself had very nice decor. We will definitely be back. read more
I got their lunch specials and you get a lot of food. You can get a choice of 3 appetizers, a soup or salad, and an entrée. I got the green curry and it was one of the best I've ever had!! The salad and chive pancakes were good too. I like that they have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is very nice, too. They seemed very busy with take out orders so the restaurant must be very popular. I look forward to eating there again. read more

Came in on Monday for lunch at this place after reading the reviews. It was quite busy, but not overly crowded so I was seated immediately because I was one person. For my meal, I went for the lunch special, which offered a variety of choices. As an appetizer, I got the ginger salad and chive pancakes. Both dishes were absolutely delightful. The salad is simple with a delicious dressing, while the pancakes were served as two small crispy triangles with a sauce on the side. Yum! Moving on to the main course, I ordered the chicken pad Thai. It was decent, though I felt it lacked a bit of flavor. Personally, I would explore other options next time. However, the portion size was more than generous, leaving me satisfied. The interior had a pleasant and cozy atmosphere. The service was good too so I would revisit to try something else. read more
Amazing flavorful dish that looks small but the toppings/meat are plentiful. This was definitely packed to the brim of the pot, and I felt so full that I saved half for leftovers. I wish they had more rice in the dish (which is usually the opposite of what others would say) to balance out the amount of toppings/meat, but overall was a solid dish. read more

I stopped by Up Thai for a lovely Thai lunch. We started with the curry puffs and they were great! The flavor was perfect and the filling was fresh. I had the basil fried rice with chicken. The dish was fresh and piping hot. The basil was fresh and the spice level was perfect. Up Thai offers a large menu - ranging from the exotic to the familiar so everyone will be able to find something to enjoy. Service was fast and prices were reasonable for the Upper East Side. read more

This is my favorite go to hands down - food is always delicious and very reasonably priced. I order takeout from here at least once per week and have been a customer for the past several years. I am coming here to write a complaint for a situation that I have never before experienced.... I went to up Thai last night and thought I got WAY less food than usual. We wanted to order in (like we usually do on Sundays, after I complete my long runs for marathon training bc up Thai is a significant amount of food), but the restaurant was so busy that they weren't taking take out orders, so I thought, "why not just go in?" I had just run 20 miles so obviously I was dying of starvation and requested extra veggies with my panang curry (also specifically ordered this dish because it's a significant portion of food). When the meal arrived, it seemed like way less than I typically get both dining in and with takeout (especially considering the extra veg request). I ate it nonetheless (practically licking the plate at the end... And was still hungry lol). However when the check came, we noticed that my meal had not only a "tofu" and "extra veg" designation but also a "lady" descriptor....... Does that mean you're giving females less food?? Just because I'm a 5'0" small woman does not mean I need less food, this is so incredibly sexist!! Once again I had just finished running 20 miles (and I do about 75 per week) so I needed my nourishment. Super disappointed that I didn't get a full meal and came home hungry, and sad that I was profiled as a "lady" eater when I routinely eat 2x more than my six foot tall boyfriend.... I guess we will just have to stick to takeout to satisfy my hunger and dine elsewhere. read more

Solid food, great ambience and lovely service. Overall a great experience. The Semilan curry was delicious but not very spicy even at medium heat. The fried rice was delicious, as well as the pork Buns. Cocktails were also tasty and decently strong. There are plastic dividers up between most tables except for the 2 person tables next to the larger tables accommodating more people. read more
Overall: Great food, great drinks, affordable, nice staff, and beautiful environment/atmosphere - laidback vibe Probably one of the best Thai restaurants in the city - its not a fast casual restaurant but also not super formal. Its a place to sit down and enjoy a meal with others. They also do take out though. There is a wide variety of Thai food and not just your classic curries and noodles. The food is all very tasty. There is a small drink menu but I recommend the lychee martini. Prices are very reasonable. Staff is nice and attentive. The decor inside is really nice but they do also have an outdoor dining area which is more plain. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area - no big cons to mention! read more

Delicious Thai food with great customer service. Pearl, our kind sever recommended the shrimp green curry and it was phenomenal! So juicy and creamy. The entree comes with rice. She also informed us all the dishes could be altered in spice. The crispy duck basil fried rice and chicken pad Thai was just as delicious. The crispy duck is a bit dry but the fried rice was the best I've ever had! Will try it with other proteins next time. The soft shell crab mango salad is refreshing and citrusy. The summer roll is all vegetables and small in size. The crispy spring roll was yummy! So full and the jasmine ice tea was refreshing! Will come back for sure, this is an authentic Thai restaurant with fabulous staff and great ambiance! read more

I don't know where to start.. everything was amazing! The inside ambiance has the perfect mood lighting with lanterns from the ceiling, a moody looking bar, plants from the ceiling and wall. The drinks were delicious (and strong!) We started with the pork bbq buns and WOW the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The steamed dumplings were flavorful and they did not skimp on meat. For entree we had the Kea Mao. We are from the SF area and have tried a fair share of Thai restaurants but we have not tried anything as delicious as Kea Mao. The Beef in the curry was so soft and tender it fell apart in your mouth. The curry was very good, we were anticipating something spicy but it leaned more towards the sweet side. This place always packed with people waiting to be seated, probably because it's not that big but mostly because the food is decent. It's super low key and casual UES vibes. I love the up spring rolls, basil fried rice, and any of their noodle dishes. You also can't go wrong with the stir fries and curries. Solid Thai food! But nothing special. I enjoyed eating this as a sort of every day food, and would definitely order this for takeout lunch or dinner. The interior was pretty! And would try to get a reservation inside if possible. If you want a more typical Thai meal, I'd recommend. read more

I took my parents here because they love Thai food and we were not disappointed. We ordered the pad thai with pork, pad krapraw with pork, and green curry with chicken, and we loved each dish. The ingredients were all so fresh and flavorful. We even ordered a second pad krapraw at my mum's insistence. Gunn was our server, and he was so personable, attentive, and courteous. I was so happy this was my first choice of restaurant after not being able to share a meal with my family for over three years (': my parents were also so happy. Highly highly recommend ! read more
I was at Up Thai several years ago and remembered loving the food, but for some reason forgot to review. Came back today with my friend and the food and service was just as lovely as I remembered. My friend started off with a lychee martini and I had a Thai iced tea, which was very tasty and refreshing on a warm day. For our mains we both got something we never had, which was called Nam Tok. This was a sliced sirloin steak salad with coconut sticky rice in a Thai Chile lime sauce. We both found this to be very flavorful and delicious and would definitely get it again. Well to be honest I'd probably get my favorite pad see ew, but I'm happy I got to try something different. Our waitress was as sweet and accommodating as could be and the bus boys were very efficient without being intrusive. Really do enjoy coming here! read more

Pretty classic Thai spot on the Upper East Side. We came here for the lunch special. It wasn't crowded at all around noon time on a weekday and we didn't have to wait at all. I got the pad krapraw, with tofu vegetable soup and the fried chive pancake. There are other appetizers that you can choose from. The tofu vegetable soup was light and mild. The fried chive pancake was nicely crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pad krapraw was delicious! It has string bean, onion, bell pepper and basil mixed in a Thai chilli sauce. A great option for tasty Thai food in the Upper East Side! Wait is never too bad and the food comes out super quickly. We got the papaya salad, green curry, and cashew nut stir fry. Everything was delicious and fresh. A good amount of food too. I will definitely try to come back and try more dishes. read more
Came to Up Thai after spending the afternoon at The Met. We got seated right away during a busy lunch time. We had the lunch specials that came with soup and salad. We ordered the wings which was cooked well. The pad Thai was delicious with a generous amount of meat which I always appreciate. Service was fast and with a smile. This spot was great! I loved the inside design, they had ac and fans so it was a comfortable temperature even with the heat wave outside. I was in the neighborhood the other day. Came across this Thai place near my Physical therapy session. The crowd was a mix of all kind of people... locals, business lunch, grad celebration, families, friendly get together... so it was good sign. I had their lunch special. They made the kea mao just the way I like it! they take the pandemic seriously (which I appreciate) as there's partitions between each table. My friend and I came to Up Thai around 6:30pm on a Wednesday. Had my friend been there, we would have been seated immediately. However, they only seat complete parties, so they put me down on the Yelp waitlist. My friend arrived around 7pm (those train delays), and we were seated within the next few minutes. However, it was completely packed around 7:30pm! The interior is nicely decorated, but it can get loud as tables are near each other. We ordered the chicken satay ($9), pad thai with tofu ($13), and panang curry with chicken ($14). The chicken satay was a pretty good deal. It came with 4 skewers of chicken and a side of garlic bread. The chicken was flavored well but was a tad dry. Luckily, the delicious peanut dipping sauce helped with that. The garlic bread was amazing! It was a little on the oily side but the flavor was on point. My friend is a big fan of Up Thai, and the pad thai is a favorite of hers. I was impressed with the flavors of the curry as well as the amount of chicken and veggies that were in it. The curry had mild heat, but I wouldn't let that steer you away unless you really cannot handle spicy food. I was also impressed with the service. The managers at Up Thai clearly hold their employees to a different standard. Our server did multiple check-backs and just had a genuine warm and friendly vibe. Our waters were constantly refilled and you can actively see the supervisor managing the floor. The only downside to this is that that homey vibe is lost when everything is operating like a business. Overall, pricing is competitive with Thai restaurants in NYC. Since Up Thai has put out the best flavors I've tasted in NYC so far, I feel like it's well worth the price and will be back to try out more dishes! read more

4.5 but the pricing was good with the big portion. My Friend got the Moo Dang and I got the krapraw Gai. The Moo Dang is kinda like the Taiwanese minced pork rice, but more meaty with more anise flavor. The krapraw gai was well seasoned and flavored with some decent kick. Both were delicious and perfect for a chilly Saturday noon time. The crepe dumpling was a little bit disappointing lol. It was kinda like cheung fun with peanut filling. read more

Dining at Up Thai was a great experience! We had a reservation and got seated right away. We had a few beverages to start and ordered soup called Tom Juan. It had many fresh vegetables and glass noodles as well. We all ordered signature dishes such as the Thai salad, pad see ew, and pad Thai woonsen which were all great! The flavors were great and definitely set themselves apart from other Thai places in nyc. The friendly staff was the cherry on top here! We weren't rushed and we're able to enjoy our group dinner. read more

No, it is not Halal but almost every dish is available in a vegiterian version! The selection of a dish is followed by a question of what kind of meat, tofu or veritable is desired.
We have a reservation for 6 people in front of the restaurant! I was wondering if it's a nice place to sit up front? I have not been there before and and pictures don't talk about it either!
