My mom is a baker, so growing up I was extremely spoiled when it came to dessert. Especially cake. But unfortunately, I do not share the same talent for cake baking as she does. With my best friend's surprise birthday visit to Austin, I needed a cake ASAP. So I ordered a plain vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting. Very simple. The morning I ordered the cake, it was ready to be picked up in the early afternoon. But when we tried it I was truly astonished at how tasty it was. The vanilla cake was very spongy and moist. Not overwhelmingly sweet (personal preference). BUT THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING. WOW. It was so creamy and more cheesy which i loveee! Not only were they able to give me a last minute cake order in about 4 hours but they were able to give me amazing flavors. Absolutely my favorite bakery in Austin! They never disappoint and the food is great. The staff is always fun and professional. The Italian cream cakes are the best I've ever had and a staple at ever holiday in my home! I'm having to change my previous rating. Ordered a cake for my son. When we cut the cake it was not what I ordered. When I called back the staff were very apologetic but said the owner would call back. When I spoke to her she was not apologetic, argumentative would be a better description. She claimed I ordered that cake as it was and that what I got from them. The conversation quickly got heated when I told her I have been a patron for many years and I knew exactly what I was ordering. I told her I would bring the remaining cake back for a refund but she said she would refund my card . This was very bad customer service coming from the owner. I've visited this place once in a while over the years and today both my wife visited for lunch. We were so very pleased and everything was excellent!! Always lots of parking, friendly staff and did I mention the croissants are good and $2.50 as opposed to the $4 I've gotten used to paying a my other fave spot (not sure I should call them out by name here). Ok, I finally tried one of their infamous cinnamon rolls and they were very good and flaky. Initially, I was skeptical because they lacked the frosting that I usually associate with some of the top cinnamon rolls, but I was proven wrong. We also tried the ham and cheese croissant, the chocolate Italian cream cake and the turkey, provolone and dijon croissant and they were all exceptionally delicious! You can definitely tell that the pastries are made fresh. They are open from 7-3 and I rolled in a little before 7:10 to a line! I was #7 and as I waited for my turn, the line behind me just kept growing! They are well aware that the cinnamon rolls are a huge hit and for that reason, I spied 3 trays in the case and 2 additional trays on the counter behind the cash register. While you do not have to get there at 7 on the dot to get your hands on a couple of their flaky rolls, I do not think I would try my luck past 9. read more

Classic Austin staple that has managed to maintain reasonable prices for lunch options. Highly recommend the chicken salad on a fresh croissant. Their sausage roll is also a treat, but often sells out quickly. Great for order-ahead cake selections and larger dessert needs, as well. Indoor queueing is still a bit of a mess due to covid, but there is ample outdoor seating. The parking lot can get packed during peak hours, but if it's full there's plenty of street parking a block away, back in the neighborhood. read more

We had a raspberry cookie and a cinnamon roll/morning bun crossover as well as a roast beef sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, and tortilla soup. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Overall the sandwiches were good, the tortilla soup was ok (wouldn't order again) and the pastries were good but not great. The cinnamon roll was a bit hard and dry in the outer layers. The cakes and cupcakes looked good! This is my absolute favorite bakery in Austin. They never disappoint and I always leave happy. I'm so glad I discovered this place. I love how the pastries are delicious without the high prices, people are super nice and mannered, and employees are so kind as well. One additional essential perk is that there's parking! That's one of the criteria when I try new places now so bless this place because of that. My favorite here is the cinnamon roll, they're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the cinnamon swirls. I've never had such great cinnamon rolls like this. They have a wide variety of pastries and breakfast food. This is a place I would recommend to people over and over again. I took my family here when they were visiting and they loved it too. Just be aware that they close at 1pm on Sundays and they usually run out things fast around 11/noon time and come here early if you don't want to miss out on some goodies! Fruit/cream cheese filled ones are delicious and more than enough for one person. Raspberry is my favorite. They have by far the best slice of quiche that is worth paying for (because I can make my own). The filling is not too milky/runny and not too egg-y. They have a variety of cookies, cupcakes, sweet and savory pastries that I will eventually try, but when I see the raspberry cream cheese croissant, I can't help it! What a great find. Some friends mentioned the spor so we dropped in to give it a try. Don't be alarmed by the line, it moves swiftly. We decided to try a bit of this and that. Our list included the cinnamon roll (beware that it is a croissant base not roll dough base), oatmeal raisin cookies, marble cupcake (cream cheese in the middle is the marble), sour cream, lemon pound cake, and tomato/bacon quiche. I had a really hard time rating this place. They did so many things great.... and a few things not. Service: good standard service Atmosphere: 5 Star - cute and homey. Sandwiches: 4 Star. The fresh baked bread was amazing! But the flavors of the inside fell flat. Baked goods: the kolache was really good. The pie was terrible. The crust was stale and tasted like a pie you would buy in a box in a grocery store. The pie is what brought the level down for me. The Sausage Puff is almost like a Kolache but not quite the same, its more of a croissant type dough around a huge tasty sausage, so light and flaky as well as savory and filling. They even offer a side of some yummy deli type mustard to go with it. Yummy.... The Spinach Ricotta round is delectable. The dough is so light, flakey, buttery, fresh, and heavenly. The spinach ricotta filling is perfect, just the right ratio of dough to filling and its creamy with well balanced flavor. Delicious! This will definitely not be my only visit! The staff always seems rushed even if there aren't customers. Asked for a recommendation from someone and he said he didn't really have one. We came in on a Saturday around 4pm (they close at 5pm) and all the pastries were gone. Only the cookies and cakes were left. On the other hand, the Grandma's Chocolate Cake and Italian Cream Cake we got were delicious. Both were moist with sweet icing-- perfect cake to icing ratio! The hot chocolate was also good. So I briefly worked here (maybe 2weeks max) a long time ago- almost 7 years ago now. I loved the experience and knew upper crust was known for they're delicious sweets. I order a gateau Marisa cake ( with fresh strawberries in the middle) for my husbands birthday. We were so excited! We cut into the cake and it was so gritty and dry we couldn't even finish the slices we cut. The flavor was amazing but the cake was so dry it would crumble in my hands like a cookie.. it felt like Grits it was hard and crunchy. We were driving around and I saw the sign Upper Crust and I yelled at my husband...I have that place bookmarked, pull over There was a short line when we got in. I got bug eyed with the nice selection behind the glass display. I couldn't decide. It took me a minute. Ah, go basic and yummy...that was my tummy talking. I ordered a plain croissant and a strawberry danish with a cup of chai. The husband ordered chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate. There's lots of tables and another room to sit plus seating outdoor too. My croissant was flaky on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It was really good. As for my strawberry danish I expected it to be super sweet and it was not. It was just right. My chai was at the right temperature and made to perfection. On to the picky eater...he actually enjoyed his hot chocolate that he had to inquire and see if they sold it to make at home. He raved about it all afternoon. I was surprised at how large this place was and how sold out they were of most things. This place is great if you prefer you desserts very sweet. We had a delicious carrot cake but it was very rich and couldn't eat all of it. The same can be said for their cinnamon rolls. However I loved those and would be back for more. The service was quick but the staff was not very educated on what were in each of the desserts and just said basically everything is good. We stopped here on Saturday morning and they were not busy at that moment. The main lady behind the counter (owner or manager) basically ignored the three of us for a couple of minutes. We move down the row towards the cash register. We told her that we had not ordered yet and were waiting on someone to take our order. Three other families walked in while we were waiting to be served. The rude lady with colored glasses and rotten attitude told us that we had to get in line. We were the ONLY people in line at the time we walked in. She told us to "get in line". We tried to explain that we were the only people in line but she was irritated. We went back to the get in line again and she asked "who was here first" and we stated "we were here first and have been here for several minutes before anyone else came in". She also snipped at another group of people while we were paying. The pastries were good and delicious but the main lady behind the counter needs to vastly improve her people skills and attitude or get out of the people serving business. You are not serving this business well. She also treated the family behind us with the same disrespect and made snotty comments while taking their order. If you don't like your job, move on! She does not have to worry about seeing us again as we will not pay money to be treated terrible, especially if we are helping to support the business. read more

Its unusual for me to write a review for places I haven't physically been to but someone from my church group brought a carrot cake from here for a gathering and man! It was the best carrot cake I've had. The cake itself was moist and fluffy with the perfect amount of carrot. And the icing was really creamy and sweet just like I like it.
