So, we went to Upper Crust to forage for something a bit simple for our dinner guests dessert . We bought an Apple Pie and is was awesome! Our quests all loved the Apple Pie! The simple pie came with cinnamon brown sugar crumbles on top of Granny Smith packed crust for an extra sweet touch. It is one of the best Apple Pies we have ever tried. I have been going to Upper Crust bakery for 25+ years. My son was, in fact, one of their first employees. Used to love this place. No more. I stopped in late last week around 8:30 a.m. For the EIGHTH time in a row, they were out of sausage rolls. Seriously? There was not one pastry in the case aside from three trays of their cinnamon-sugar rolls. No scones, no sausage rolls, no croissants, no fruit-filled breakfast pastries. Nothing. I know that Upper Crust does a lot of business, however, at 8:30 a.m. with no one in line ahead of Mr and only five customers in the store on a Thursday, I'm hard-pressed to believe that they wwmere sold out of literally all pastries that early in the day. And eight times in a row the sausage rolls are sold out? That tells me that management is not doing their job and tracking sales. And, whatever happened to the ricotta-dill bread? I'm pretty much done as a walk-in customer. The lack of inventory is inexcusable. I will, however, continue to order the gateau Marissa for special occasions butcthatcis all Upper Crust, disappointing. read more

Homemade apple pie was delicious. The wife and kid each got a cookie (oatmeal, chocolate, peanut butter for one and oatmeal raisin the other) both of which received rave reviews. My only critique is that it would be nice to have the pie heated up. I didn't ask if it was an option so I can't ding them for that. We were hoping for cinnamon rolls but came in the afternoon and they were sold out. With that in mind if you're looking for something specific you may want to go early. read more

Super delicious pecan pie - one of the best I have ever eaten so far. It was so moist, savory, and the pecans were so crunchy and delicious. Amazing!! Also the Apple Danish was very delicious as well. But our fav was that pecan pie!! The latte was yummy as well. We ordered a medium and it was ginormous. With my best friend's surprise birthday visit to Austin, I needed a cake ASAP. So I ordered a plain vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting. Very simple. The morning I ordered the cake, it was ready to be picked up in the early afternoon. But when we tried it I was truly astonished at how tasty it was. The vanilla cake was very spongy and moist. Not overwhelmingly sweet (personal preference). BUT THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING. WOW. It was so creamy and more cheesy which i loveee! Not only were they able to give me a last minute cake order in about 4 hours but they were able to give me amazing flavors. She wears a white top and glasses, shoulder length hair, she looked unhappy and annoyed, absolutely not inviting. Quiche - Yes, the quiche here is heavenly. Even among all the sandwiches and baked goods to choose from, the quiche would be the highlight of the bakery. My #1 recommendation if you're looking for a good breakfast quiche. Baked goods - Overall they are great. They will heat up the bread for you if you're dining in, so they're nice and soft when you bite into it. Even the cornbread wasn't dry which means they're doing something right. The cookies are great, but if you're not looking for something sweet, the sausage rolls are some of the best I've had in Austin. Coffee - The coffee is all locally sourced which is great but wasn't anything special. However, it pairs pretty well with the sweet baked goods (e.g. danishes, pies, cupcakes, brownies) so if you get sweets then I would say it's worth it. When I went, they had Guatemalan and French Roast for those of you interested. Service - If you're the get my order quickly chop-chop kind of person than you will have a great experience. Otherwise, the service may seem a bit terse. They all know exactly what to do and how to do it, but they almost rush you through the process and seem more intent on finishing your order than making sure you got everything alright. Food is 5 stars but the service was 3. Additional Note - Staff told me that the cinnamon roll was their bestseller. My group was split on whether they liked it or not. Personally, I thought it was better than the breakfast restaurant quality cinnamon roll, but I wouldn't say it's particularly special for a bakery. Still worth a try. Love this place. It's a bit far from me but I make the trip every once in a while.. The quiche are so good here! My friend, Kim K, told me about the Ham brioche and I had to try it out. It did not disappoint. It's huge!! I only like the ring of ham around the side but my daughter enjoyed the bread haha. (low carb and all) :) I got a double shot esspresso and its great. Love this place. The line is pretty constant, people coming in and out but the employees are super super nice and fast! Can't wait for many more weekend mornings here :) read more

Ok, I finally tried one of their infamous cinnamon rolls and they were very good and flaky. Initially, I was skeptical because they lacked the frosting that I usually associate with some of the top cinnamon rolls, but I was proven wrong. We also tried the ham and cheese croissant, the chocolate Italian cream cake and the turkey, provolone and dijon croissant and they were all exceptionally delicious! You can definitely tell that the pastries are made fresh. They are open from 7-3 and I rolled in a little before 7:10 to a line! I was #7 and as I waited for my turn, the line behind me just kept growing! They are well aware that the cinnamon rolls are a huge hit and for that reason, I spied 3 trays in the case and 2 additional trays on the counter behind the cash register. While you do not have to get there at 7 on the dot to get your hands on a couple of their flaky rolls, I do not think I would try my luck past 9. read more

We had a raspberry cookie and a cinnamon roll/morning bun crossover as well as a roast beef sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, and tortilla soup. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. Overall the sandwiches were good, the tortilla soup was ok (wouldn't order again) and the pastries were good but not great. The cinnamon roll was a bit hard and dry in the outer layers. The cakes and cupcakes looked good! The Italian cream cakes are the best I've ever had and a staple at ever holiday in my home! I'm having to change my previous rating. Ordered a cake for my son. When we cut the cake it was not what I ordered. When I called back the staff were very apologetic but said the owner would call back. When I spoke to her she was not apologetic, argumentative would be a better description. She claimed I ordered that cake as it was and that what I got from them. The conversation quickly got heated when I told her I have been a patron for many years and I knew exactly what I was ordering. I told her I would bring the remaining cake back for a refund but she said she would refund my card . This was very bad customer service coming from the owner.
