    Omakase round 2
    Joanna S.

The night before the February 2026 snowstorm I walked from my hotel to Wokuni for an Omakase solo dinner. I had a wonderful evening, trying the chef's recommendations and adding a few extra selections of my favorite fish of the night, some Unagi, and some Wagyu. I enjoyed a cocktail as well as sake. The service was impeccable, the food was incredible. Atmosphere 10 out of 10.

4.0 / 5.0 A restaurant in Manhattan where you can eat delicious sushi. You can view the menu by scanning the QR code on your seat. It's packed with office workers at lunchtime on weekdays, but the turnover is fast so you can get in quickly. The BARA CHIRASHI I ordered came with three types of sashimi, eel, and flying fish roe. It was incredibly filling and satisfying. It comes with salad and miso soup. There are table seats and a counter, and strollers can be seated. I'm also curious about the limited-edition WOKUNI-DON!

Been here now twice for lunch, very fresh sushi and excellent service. Highly recommended.

My buddy asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday and I said izakaya, so he chose wokuni thanks to chatgpt. Place is pretty nice, definitely trying to be on the fancy side. Wait staff is attentive without being intrusive. For food, we decided against a la carte and went with the signature omakase. I'd say there's nothing inherently wrong with the place but it's "Asian American fancy." So basically like Nobu and Buddakan but less trendy and less expensive. What do I mean? We got spicy mayo rock shrimp, yellowtail jalapeno, and miso Chilean sea bass. You can't get more stereotypical than these dishes. Were they tasty? Sure. But you just have to know you're not getting authentic Japanese dishes. I appreciated the experience and again, nothing was wrong per se. But I'm just not looking for this type of food when I go out for a nice dinner. I would not come back.

Service was excellent - very attentive and thoughtful. The lunch omakase was well-executed with fresh fish and skilled preparation. Only complaint is the noise level. Sat next to someone having a loud business conversation throughout the meal (well he was trying very hard to impress the lady next to him), which really detracted from the experience. The restaurant could use better noise management.

Came here for a weekday lunch - headed here a bit early to avoid the lunch hour rush. By 12:30pm, the place was 3/4 full. The kid's meal was awesome. It came with a lot of variety and the treasure surprise underneath the boat's deck made this one of his top 10 restaurants. The cirashi bowl was so also great and yummy. Service was a bit slow but expected given the lunch hour rush.

This is, by far, my favorite sushi restaurant in NY. Points for being steps away from Grand Central Station and my daughter's job. What I like most about this restaurant is that the fish is super fresh, the waiters are super kind, and it's all very unpretentious. One day while I was here they rolled out an entire fish! People were bidding on it! Apparently, it's an event that happens 1x a month. What a blast! I always order Daiginjo Bara Chirashi Uni, Snow Crab & Shrimp Tempura, Seasonal Shellfish added to reg. Bara Chirashi. Freaking Fabulous!

came for dinner sunday night. immediately the vibes were super cool in the establishment servers were kind and food came out quick. nothing special for the sushi but it hit the spot and satisfied a craving prices were reasonable and we also got a miso soup - so yummy. will have to come back!

Cute restaurant. You can also rent it out. I never totally get all the little dishes that come with the food, but I do love to try them

Came for lunch and loved the variety of options available, the fish was very fresh. I'm not really much of an oyster guy, but these are changing my mind, recommend getting. A very nice cosy interior with ample seating, and service was on point as well.

Came with a buddy Yves for a Knicks pre-game meal ENTRANCE - a wonderful hostess greeted us and promptly seated us at one of the more rare booths. Although the table seating was quite nice as well. WAITER - our waiter Roni was fabulous. Very attentive and offered some great recommendations to try. MANAGER - the manager Jake actually came by to greet us and we had a pleasant conversation. MENU - while a bit limited in some aspects they offered enough choices for Sushi and Sashimi options. One side note is they do not have a combination Sushi & Sashimi item on the menu. SUSHI & SASHIMI - this is a high 5 rating. All of the items were super fresh. The cut size was good. The cut preparation was also unique. For example the spicy salmon was cut wit a piece of the actual skin. Very different and outrageously tasty. SAKI - the happy hour from 5-7 (was extended) and their saki was very good and served in a unique way. You have a small glass of saki in a little bento box with saki in the box. I learned to drink the remaining saki right out of box - very fun. RESTROOMS - super clean and while small (two people max), the small sink was so cool to use. PRICE - not for the light wallet but you get what you pay for so save up my friends for a once in a lifetime experience at the minimum

Great space, great food. If looking for the lunch set, you have to come early as they sell out quick. However, their other options are just as delicious. I decided to go with the Daiginjo Bara Chirashi and it was delicious! So much fish and variety on top of well seasoned sushi rice. I really liked the dish. Their fish was super fresh tasting and it was filling. The service was super attentive. Just a heads up, they will seat you for lunch if your party is not complete but you cannot order their lunch set ahead of time if you are ordering the limited sets. You can order for yourself but not for the person you are still waiting for. Still worth it.

Disappointing Sushi at Wokuni - Proceed with Caution I went to Wokuni for dinner and started on a high note with the oysters--they were fresh, well-presented, and hit the spot. But the sashimi platter quickly turned things sour. The platter arrived with five types of fish (15 pieces total). First up was the salmon, which smelled faintly fishy--definitely not sushi-grade fare. It felt like something rolled out of Costco's fresh case. The fluke that followed was similarly lackluster, lacking the clean, fresh quality sashimi should have. The sea bass was a slight improvement, and the yellowtail was acceptable, though still not outstanding. But the real disappointment came with the tuna. I found a visible blood vein running through the flesh--unappetizing and easily avoidable with proper trimming. I flagged it and asked the server what was going on. He took it to the chef, who came back and told me, "This is how Japanese eat sashimi." That apology--or lack thereof--was laughable and insulting. Any competent sushi chef knows the bloodline is removed because it's strong-tasting, off-putting, and hardly appetizing. If the chef can't be bothered to properly clean their fish, what else are they cutting corners on? Bottom line: Inspect your sashimi before you eat it. My experience was disgusting and incredibly disappointing. This level of carelessness isn't what I expect for sushi. I won't be returning, and I can't recommend Wokuni to anyone who cares about quality or value.

I came here to throw down on some seafood and that's exactly what we did. I found out about this place because one of my favorite TikTok foodies posted that she came here when she was visiting from Chicago. It was also my friend's birthday so we figured we'd check it out. If you come with a group of 4 or more, including the birthday person, they eat for free, which is a pretty nice perk. This place lived up to every bit of the hype. We did the $125 option which includes lobster. If you have people in your group who are on the fence about spending the extra money, just remind them it's only about $35 more and that's basically the cost of one lobster anywhere else. Here you're getting unlimited lobster. The food literally just kept coming. At one point we were running out of room on the table. One thing I really appreciated was that the staff noticed and started putting multiple items on the same plates instead of bringing everything out separately. It sounds small but it actually helped a lot and showed they were paying attention. The drinks weren't super strong but they definitely weren't weak either. If you love seafood, come hungry and bring a group. The vibes were great, the service was on point, and we left absolutely stuffed.

It's honestly a seafood lover's dream. I highly recommend coming with a large group so you can try a bit of everything. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to others.

The flavors in the Manila clams were still a 10/10, but I was disappointed by the portion this time. I had more empty shells in my bowl than clams with meat! I'm not usually one to complain, but I honestly should have said something. The coconut crab curry, however, knocked it out of the park as always. The flavor is out of this world, and the succulent lumps of crabmeat practically melt in your mouth. Pro tip: If you order both dishes, mix a little of the sweet basil clam sauce into the coconut crab curry. The combination is incredible! The Tongue & Cheek cocktail was divine mildly sweet, refreshing, and incredibly smooth, with a velvety texture from the egg white. Service was mixed this particular evening. The host came across as a bit rude and seemed to have an attitude, but thankfully, my bartender was attentive, knowledgeable, and accommodating throughout the night. Despite a couple of misses, Fish Cheeks remains one of my favorites for its bold flavors, beautiful atmosphere, and consistently unforgettable coconut crab curry.
