Came here with my husband for an early dinner. It was actually our first date together since having a baby. So glad we stumbled upon this gem. The interior was well-decorated, spacious, and clean. The food was AMAZING. Loved the tapas platter option which allowed us to try 7 different tapas. We also tried the mixed shawarma platter and a couple desserts. Everything was delicious. The service was superb. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We spoke with Meddie, he was so kind and approachable. I walked in at 920pm and was refused a table but suggested "take out" by the lady working there. It was upsetting because I wanted to try all of the small dishes unique to Mediterranean cuisine yet this is impossible to enjoy as "take out". I could quickly tell she didn't sit me because of how backed up the kitchen was and many customers were beginning to get visible frustrated. I waited 40 minutes on a lamb shawarma that was nothing but mediocre. I might try this place again but not sure what the hype is about. read more

I understand that it's a first world problem, but even with our diverse food choices in the Bay Area, I have been complacent and bored of food lately. After eating at Zitouna, the flavors of their food have awakened my taste buds once again. Even though I am familiar with Mediterranean dishes, I had noticed on their menu that there were many things on there that I have not seen or tried before. My goodness, the food was delightful! My family ordered the familiar dishes such as Chicken and Beef/Lamb Shawarma Plates, and Baba Ganoush/Hummus. The items we tried for the first time was the Hooriya-a spiced carrot puree dip that comes with pita bread, Brik Fiselle-Potato and cheese wrapped egg roll, and Mujadra-spiced rice and lentils with fried onions and came with taziki sauce and pickles. There was not a dish we could have gone without. What's even more telling of this place, is that I have 3 little ones that tend to be picky eaters-tried and found themselves enjoying the food as well. Though they are in their soft opening phase, there is such a welcoming atmosphere. I found out through the owner that he used to work at Mezze and Mooore in the Mission and since then, he and his wife branched out on their own and opened this restaurant with more Tunisian influence, where the owner is from. Zitouna is such a refreshing addition to SF, in particular, the Outer Richmond area. I even found myself ordering take out from here this evening, the food travels well, and deliciously consistent. read more

Absolutely incredible food, will 100% be back. I typically get Mediterranean food in Redwood city area and this place easily blows them out of the water. Felafels were light and fragrant and Turkish coffee was rich without being all that bitter. The soups (both the chicken and the lentil) were both rich/flavorful and the chicken shawarma wrap and kebab plate were both solid choices. Fabulous new Mediterranean restaurant on Clement, came to their opening last Saturday and was blown away by how fresh and delicious every dish I had was. Ordered the beef/lamb rice plate, hummus, babaganoush, salad, and falafel (my favorite, and I usually don't even like falafel!). Also not to be missed is the Tunisian carrot dish as well as the mint lemonade, my kids loved it! A friend and I went there (for the first time) for lunch. There were so many enticing choices we decided to focus on the tapas and the like and share everything. Lots of things we hadn't tried before, and everything was tasty. Lots was also interesting -- called "Mediterranean" but I thought of it more as broadly embracing the cuisines of the Middle East. My "test food" is always baba ghanoush, a favorite of mine. I asked for just a taste (my friend doesn't eat eggplant in any form) and was given a full (free) plate. I did pay them some for it -- and took most of it home, and it is now my GO TO baba, I'll go back just to take some home. Oh by the way -- the portions of everything were MORE than generous! Setting is in a sweet spot: a step above casual, but also not formal or fancy. Service was attentive and friendly, helping us get our infant setup. Just incredible.
