    Samosa Chaat

Came here with a friend on a Sunday evening, and made a reservation in advance on OpenTable, although we didn't really need one because there were enough empty tables when we arrived. The tables are located in the back of the restaurant, and it was pretty spacious and nicely decorated. Weirdly enough, the ceiling lights did go off at one point for about 30 seconds while we were eating, and then the air conditioner also started up, even though it was in the middle of winter... The service was great, everyone who came by our table was very friendly. It was also neat that they had digital menus on tablets (speaking of which, the menu is pretty extensive). We ordered a Chana Masala curry which came with rice, a Paneer Masala dosa, and Chaat Samosa. The Chaat Samosa was my favorite dish. I do wish the dosa had been hotter when it arrived, and the Chana Masala was so-so. I would come back to try other things including the chai!

    Misal with Farsan and Onion

Ordered Misal Pav, good in taste and spicy as expected. Farsan and Onion were too little for the curry quantity. Bread was crisp, and packing was good.

Came here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure how an Indian restaurant could be vegan and vegetarian based, but there was a lot of options. I got the tofu in the spicy chili sauce and it was delicious. The tofu was so well cooked and spiced that it didn't taste nor feel like tofu. I got the hottest spice available for the sauce but I did think it could have been hotter, but still delicious. Service was very quick and beyond friendly. The restaurant itself has such a nice back room for dining and is so clean and aesthetically pleasing. I definitely would come back!

Came here for a late dinner double date as we were craving Indian food, and it really hit the spot! They have a wide array of vegetarian and vegan Indian classics. The menu is presented on an iPad which was interesting. I tried the kadai paneer masala (which tasted like a chicken tikka masala with paneer instead of chicken). The flavors were incredible. I also tried some of my partner's Hakka noodles with vegetables (Manchurian), which was filling and had delish. The interior is clean and decor was aesthetically pleasing. Service was kind and they let us stay past the official closing time.

The hubby is craving Indian food tonight. Nice interior in the back dining room. The front looks like a counter and carry out spot. We started off with Gobi Manchurian, crispy, Mulligatawny soup, paper sada dosa, plain mung sada dosa, chickpea salad, yellow dal lentil, Chana masala, both spicy. $104.44. Service was so-so. Cleanup and food kept coming out. We did need a second table next to ours, since we have a lot of food coming. I noticed our waitress has had someone she's been speaking to the entire time we have been here. My husband wouldn't drink his water from his poured glass, because the waitress grabbed it from the top of the glass as she moved it around. :/ The going is definitely crispy, bit I have yet to get any cauliflower, it's all breading for the most part. Not what we were expecting at all. The pieces are all quite small, which could be why it's all breading only? It all tastes like crispy, burnt battered bits. These are the bits that we don't ever fight over at the end of our Gobi apps. The dal lentil is thick and creamy. It's decent. The Chana masala is pretty good, the flavor is quite intense here from the curries, good heat too. The paper dosa and the mung dosa came out well after all of the rest of our food was out, usually they would come out first and towards the beginning of our meal. The chick pea salad is good. Has a nice tart and fresh dressing to it. Nice garnish enhancement with the cilantro. The veggies are all nicely diced up too. The lentil is quite good, flavorful. The lentil is smooth and pureed, no chunks of lentils at all. It's a comforting soup. The paper dosa is nice and crunchy, it's huge. The mung bean is significantly darker and drier than the paper dosa. Glad we tried the mung bean, but not for me. The dal lentil, Gobi, Chana masala and dosa and mung bean dosa are quite a bit more expensive here than what we would normally pay at home. We usually pay maybe $7 for dosa. The other dishes are usually around $10 at most when we go to most Indian restaurants, anywhere else. Food was 3.5. Service was about a 2. I don't think we have ever spent over $100 for two is of at an Indian restaurant, ever.

    paneer bhurji dosa
    Brian S.

came here for dosa and found decent dosa. i probably just ordered the wrong thing wanting to try something new but wasn't all that impressed by the paneer bhurji dosa. the paneer was tasteless despite the green peppers and onions and missed any spice or spiciness i was looking forward to. the onion tomato garlic uttappam, on the other hand, slapped. the sambar, coconut chutney and tomato chutney on the side were great too. tried the salty lassi and also wasn't a huge fan service is nice and seating area is beautiful.

Ahimsa is a warm & pleasant Indian restaurant. The moment you enter the dining hall, it's subtle yet thoughtful Indian contemporary decor will settle you down. Servers, very gracious & on point present an iPad menu with a delightful choice of Indian dishes from street food to North Indian curries, South Indian dosas and desserts- there's a dish for everyone. I tried their Sada Dosa & it was absolutely lip-smacking and delicious. Perfectly cooked and sambar spiced & portioned appropriately with two chutneys. Prices are more or less at par with NYC standards although some appetizers seem overpriced. Definitely gonna give Ahimsa another shot!

came on Friday night for dinner since i had a major craving for dosa. this spot absolutely hit the spot. we enter and theyre playing the most wholesome indian music - was such a cute vibe for a friday evening. we order a chaat for the table and it was spicy but delicious - definitely enough to share between 4 people since entrees are huge you dont need too much food. i ordered the cheese massla dosa and it was a looot of food i couldnt finish - but it came so warm and fresh with all the chutneys and potato - so delicious and the cheese was a nice extra touch to make it extra good def would come back because theyre food is good and service is incredibly nice!

I've never eaten Indian food other than tandoori chicken many years ago. What would you recommend I try as a first timer? Can't be spicy or fried.

Really depends on what you like, but I'd suggest saag paneer. It is spinach and cheese. Usually not spicy.…

A Hidden Gem That Completely Changed My Perspective on Vegan Food…read more Yesterday was my first visit to Le Botaniste, and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. The storefront and fresh drinks first caught my attention, so I thought it was mostly a juice or beverage spot. The moment I walked inside, I realized it was so much more. The restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere, and everything looked incredibly fresh. You can immediately tell they take pride in the quality of their food. The highlight of our visit was the exceptional customer service from Alan. He welcomed us with a smile, took the time to explain the menu, answered all of our questions, and gave us recommendations based on what we were looking for. His knowledge and enthusiasm made choosing our meals easy. Alan recommended their most popular bowl, the Pasta Bolognese, and mentioned it was also his personal favorite. After just one bite, I understood why. It was rich, hearty, full of flavor, and if no one had told me it was vegan, I never would have guessed. It has officially become one of my favorite plant-based meals. For my mother, Alan recommended the seasonal Mediterranean Bowl, and it was another excellent choice. I asked her if she enjoyed it, and her response was simple: "Yes... and I want more." That pretty much says it all. The drinks were also fresh, refreshing, and paired perfectly with our meals. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their drink menu. Even if you're not vegan, don't let that stop you from trying this place. Le Botaniste proves that plant-based food can be comforting, satisfying, and packed with incredible flavor. A huge thank you to Alan for making our first visit such a memorable one. Great food is important, but great hospitality makes people want to come back. Needless to say, I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

The bright and beautiful neo-Victorian vibes complement the visually appealing displays of food and decor that recall a 19th century apothecary. With locations around NYC, as well as in Belgium where it all started, La Botaniste serves up "100% organic plant-based food." The bowls are pretty substantive and they have lighter starters/sides too for those who just want to dabble. You can choose one of their signature bowls (the Tibetan Mama, with its satisfying curry base, comes highly recommended), or build your own from a lineup of bases, sauces, toppings, dressings and garnishes. The food tastes fresh and clean, and I include this place in my rotation of healthy quick salad/bowl/vegetarian meal options in the neighborhood. I love that they have raw vegan treats, an increasingly rare find since several of my favorite raw vegan spots in the city closed down over the years. I'll admit I was first lured in by the antiquey aesthetic and the colorful vintage florals, but the food and environment are both very pleasurable.

I love spinach even plain, but I think it could have used a touch more seasoning. The tofu scramble was seasoned, but it could either use more seasoning or more moisture. The corn muffins were dry and crumbly, definitely the worst part of the dish. My friend said that the sauce brought the burger together and hid the fact that it's a Beyond burger. She also mentioned that she didn't feel heavy after eating the burger, which was nice. Despite us telling the restaurant that we had to go to a musical, service was on the slower side. My friend also had to try several times to get to the bathroom, since someone was always inside. However, the staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. I would only recommend P.S. Sentir is 100% vegan, and I would confidently bring even my carnivore friends here without hesitation. If nobody told you it was vegan, you'd simply think you were eating some of the most creative, flavorful Mexican food you've ever had. It's that good. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can tell this isn't just another restaurant. The atmosphere is warm, stylish, and inviting without feeling pretentious. Every member of the staff was incredibly kind (thanks Camila who served us both days!), knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to talk about the menu and the other restaurants in the group. Their passion for what they do shines through in every interaction. The food completely exceeded every expectation we had. Every dish was beautifully presented, packed with bold flavors, and unlike anything we've had before. We found ourselves talking about every bite and immediately discussing what we'd come back to try... which ended up being less than 24 hours later. We were so excited by the food on our first visit that we completely forgot to take pictures! (It became a complete afterthought because we had already scarfed everything down. ) Thankfully, we redeemed ourselves on day two! The cocktails also deserve their own standing ovation. They're creative, beautifully crafted, and every bit as memorable as the food. If you're looking for a restaurant where every detail has clearly been thoughtfully considered from the atmosphere and service to the food and drinks, Sentir absolutely delivers. We travel to NYC often and almost never eat at the same restaurant twice because there are so many amazing places to try. The fact that we chose to come back the very next day says everything you need to know. Sentir has officially earned a permanent spot on our "must visit" list every time we're in that part of the city. What We Ate (and absolutely LOVED): Sentir Guac - Easily one of the freshest and most flavorful guacamoles we've ever had. It was served with chips and a deep fried tofu that was reminiscent of a "chicken skin" or something along those lines. I've never tried anything like it and it was good and unique! Carne Asada Tacos - Perfectly seasoned with amazing texture and incredible flavor. Al Pastor Chicken Tacos - Sweet, savory, smoky, and absolutely delicious. Cream of Corn - I wasn't expecting a bowl of corn to stand out the way it did. It was warm, comforting and cheesy. I just wish it came with something to dip with. Unfortunately too much was dripping through the fork and I wanted to savor it all! Chile Rellenos - Beautifully prepared with layers of flavor in every bite. It was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth! Tamal de Carne - Tender, comforting, and packed with incredible flavor. What We Drank: Sentir Michelada - One of the best my husband ever had. The chose Modelo as the beer Little Pitcher - This was a bunch drink. It had grapefruit & orange juice (among other things) but it was shockingly unique and dangerously easy to drink. Café con Ron - The perfect twist or play on an espresso martini but a million times better! Nutty Olivia - I believe this was on "special" and it was a mooth, creative, and another cocktail I'd order again in a heartbeat. It contains gin, which my husband doesn't like but he must have stolen at least 3 sips before I told him to worry about his own drink! Final thought: If a restaurant is good enough to make us skip trying somewhere new in New York City and instead return the very next day, that's about the highest compliment we can give. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, or a lifelong meat eater, do yourself a favor go!!! I have a feeling you'll be planning your second visit before you even finish your first.

Amazing food, drinks, service, and ambience. I went around 5:30 pm on a weekday and was seated…read moreright away. While we didn't order too much, everything was delicious and filling. We got the Philadelphia maki roll, spicy mang, and the chicken yakitori skewers (my favorite). The skewers have a tangy sauce that make it so good. The drinks were also unique and beautifully served!

Beyond Sushi was in Midtown near where I was staying, so I ended up coming here---on Valentine's Day, which happened to be a mistake! Since I didn't have a reservation, the lady who checked me in told me I had to find a seat at the bar. Her attitude was not the best, as when I looked over the menu and made a decision on what I wanted to get, she dismissed me when I waved her over, saying she is not the person taking orders. Um, okay? Then who is? One guy at the bar was nicer, and was able to take my order. I started off with a hot tea since NYC was cold in February, and then decided to have as much as I could of two dishes---the "chicken" yakitori skewers and the Korean BBQ skillet. The skewers came in a set of two, with a white mayo-like sauce drizzle and pickled cucumber on the side. Super delectable, though very filling because of the protein! The skillet was made with classic Chunk Foods protein, the go-to plant-based option for all the meat dishes at City Roots restaurants as far as I know. This was incredibly filling, but the sauce and the texture were all around delicious as well. I could NOT bother to finish the brussels sprouts the skillet came with---way too much to stomach, and I was going to focus on the "meats" since I can always have brussels any other time! The bill by the end of it was PRICEY. That's why I only go to one of these restaurants as a special treat when I visit NYC. Watch out if you order hot tea...$13!! I guess that's the NYC way, but still!
