Amigos is some good Mexican food, and I'm from Fresno, where we have really good Mexican food. We eat here every time we come to Bishop and this trip we've eaten here twice already. Don't judge! I've had one meal a day on this trip. With some snacks. Always have snacks. Yesterday (10-20-26) I had chicken nachos. Their chips are crunchy and so good. The toppings were fresh and I especially liked the beans. Today (10-21-16) I had the cancun enchiladas. Delicious! So unique and flavorful. Smokey with some sweetness. The boyfriend had the veggie burrito both days and said it was really good each time. I would recommend this place for anyone who likes good food. Which is everyone. We wanted fast and simple. We loved it! Were thinking takeout but it was pleasant and they fed us the best chips and pico de gallo so we did dine-in. Green chile pork burrito was really good - the chile stewed pork looked green-gray (as it should) but was very delicious!!! Guacamole was mild and a tiny bit salty just how I like it. Chicken taco salad and veggie burrito made my dining companions happy. Not fancy. Who cares? Good prices. My wife and I stopped in last night for dinner after a day of hiking in the Mammoth area. We have seen Amigos many times while in Bishop and finally decided to give it a try and we're glad we did. The Chips and Salsa were excellent and we eagerly accepted a second helping of each. My wife had the Cancun Enchiladas and water while I had the Friday special Santa Fe Enchiladas washing it down with a cool Modelo Especial. We both loved our food and I took some of mine with me because I couldn't finish it all. (I suspect that's because I went crazy on the Chips & Salsa!) Wonderful friendly Mexican restaurant that was just a great dining experience. Came in as a group of 18 from our fishing club and had to wait till tables turned over. Had their fresh salsa times 3 (yes 3 bowls) with my chips and dinner. Dinner was a tamale & taco combo - both done very well and with just the right spices and salt level. Amigos is my favorite restaurant in Bishop. Their service is consistently fast and friendly. Their prices are on the fair for Bishop ($8-$12 per plate) and the food is some of the best in the area. They have the best chips and salsa in town and, of course, they're free! The salsa is a medium-spice, fresh-made, concoction that pairs perfectly with their fresh-made chips. My favorite dishes are the Marinated Chicken Acapulco plate (a spicy, fire-grilled, boneless chicken leg dish served with sour cream, guac, rice, beans, and tortillas) and their Enchilladas Autlan (a delicious beef enchillada served with their fantastic green sauce). I would strongly encourage anyone who hasn't eaten at Amigos to stop in and give them a chance. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday around 4pm on the way home from Mammoth. There were a few other tables there but not too crowded. The Service --- The service was good. Our server was very sweet. Food came out quickly, they kept our water and chips and salsa filled up. She even asked us if we wanted to split our bill and split it 4 ways (we had a group of 6). What more can you ask for. The Food --- Chips and salsa were really good. Chips were cooked fresh, still hot and very crunchy. The salsa had green onions which was a nice deviation from the norm. I had the Street Cart Tacos which were fried tacos with carne Asada. They came under lettuce and salsa which was pretty watery (maybe the lettuce was watery) and made the tacos super soggy. It was kind of like I was eating a salad. Wasn't a huge fan of the flavor either. Although everything got kind of mixed up so I'm not sure what it was. It also came with rice and beans. They were okay, average. It was a lot of food, we all took home leftovers. The Prices --- My tacos were $11 or so. I was pretty disappointed with my tacos. Was looking forward to the crunchiness. But the chips and salsa were good as was the service and my fellow diners liked their dishes, so 3 stars. Skip the Street Cart Tacos if you stop by! read more

Here visiting Bishop with my family, and decided to give this place a try. We all LOVED it. Excellent customer service as the server was very nice, welcoming environment, and great speed of service. Free FRESH chips and salsa, which was a nice change compared to back home. This was a lovely surprise as the chips weren't oily nor too salty. And salsa was really good, I'd say mild in flavor. The food portions were huge and a really great deal for the price. It's double the size of a meal at a regular Mexican restaurant back home. Our meal orders all came with refried beans and rice. Everyone in my fam as well as myself agree the food was DELICIOUS. I rarely give 5 stars, but I gotta say I had only positive things to say about this place. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Decent food but they don't have a full liquor license, so don't expect to get a margarita here. At least they don't try to push wine margaritas like Loco Frijole. I got the taco salad with carne asada. It was pretty good, but more lettuce than anything else. If I got it again, I would order extra sour cream and guacamole because it did not come with much. My friends got the tacos and they seemed pretty happy. I think the Acapulco tacos were a hit. The chips and salsa are ok but the salsa is not very hot. If you are willing to drive a little farther to the north end of town, the Petite Pantry is another Mexican restaurant and has spicier salsa. All in all, ok for dinner in a pinch and probably the best Mexican restaurant on Main Street. But there are better places for dinner in Bishop. read more

On our way down from a week at June Lake, my girl and I decided we wanted some Mexican food. We spotted Amigo since it was conveniently located along the main road through town. There was no waiting as it was still early morning. The server quickly brought us over a carafe filled with ice cold water. We both ordered the Asada burrito and they were accommodating when my girl asked for more rice than beans. The portions were huge! Huge enough that we could have shared one burrito plate. The beans were delicious and did not taste like canned re-fried beans. The rice was tasty as well, not too hard, not too mushy. The burrito itself was scrumptious with pico de gallo, guacamole, steak, and beans! I took whatever was left to go and devoured it once I got home that night. My buddy and I walked up and down Main Street last night looking at all the restaurants and we settled on amigos because there menu looked good. CANCUN ENCHILADAS are fire!!!! My bean burrito was good but nothing extraordinary. My wife's cancun pork enchiladas on the other hand were delicious. they were sweet and savory and different. I have tried several Bishop, CA Mexican Food Restaurants. Amigo's is by far the standout. The chips are in house as is the salsa. The guacamole is fresh smashed avocados. No chemical additives that turn it an obscure green or give it a funny taste that other CA Mexican Restaurant utilize. The rice actually has flavor unlike other tasteless bits of color on your plate at other Mexican Food Restaurants. The beans are good but not up to TX standard. We have had multiple items off the menu throughout our 8 visits and have loved everything. I would suggest starting with one of their specialty enchiladas. Perhaps the best flavored enchiladas I have had in my Mexican Food journey. The service is friendly and nice. You will not be disappointed. Cheers. read more

We had the most delicious lunch today at Amigo's Restaurant!! The tacos were fabulous, the beans and rice were so yummy and the chips and salsa were the most delicious we've had in months!!! Yes, it's take out only right now but I'd happily eat in my car every day if I can eat from Amigo's!!! If you're traveling through, it's worth the stop.
