Mm, mm, MM! I over-ate, and I ain't even mad. First off, the complimentary chips and salsa are fantastic... chips aren't salty, and the salsa is fresh and delicious -- some of the best I've had. I'd buy it if it were at the local store. As for the plate I ordered, daaaaaamn tasty. I got the enchilada and chile relleno combination and was pleased that it tasted unlike most other Mexican restaurants, which is a good thing. The sauce on the chile relleno didn't have a generic flavor to it. I thought it was pretty good, but probably not the best I've ever had -- I was also a little disappointed that the pepper was very mild in terms of heat. The enchilada I got with chicken and I enjoyed it, especially the stringy-as-hell cheese on top. No fake crap at Astorga's. The rice and beans were also better than most places. I give Astorga's four stars because the waitressing was brutal... she didn't split the check, the food took awhile to come out, and she was just negligent all-around. This was some of the more unique tasting Mexican food I've ever had, but the service keeps me from giving five stars. This was a great stop. read more

This restaurant is located on the north end of town on the right as you enter town and past the Paiute Palace. It's located on a corner, but can be somewhat hard to see. All parking is in the back. The pavement on Hwy 395/Main St. is painted with "No Parking" all along that side of the building. The place was fairly packed on a Friday night. Lots of family groups filled most of the tables. The server was friendly, but it was clearly too busy a night for them to be very attentive. We received one small bowl of salsa and some chips. We ordered quickly, then started muting on the chips. The salsa did not last long, and no one came by to check to see if we needed more. They do offer free WIFI with a decent connection, so truthfully, I wasn't as annoyed at the lack of attentiveness, because I was able to check messages on the internet. Before I knew it, the food we'd order, 3 different tacos, street-style, and a house style burrito. The food was well-made and tasty. We were famished from hiking all day (and it being a long time since we'd had lunch sandwiches.). I would definitely return here to eat. read more

Best Mexican food in Bishop. I lovvvveee the Chili Rellenos the sauce is smooth and not tomato tasting. The Rellano burrito is also well done, wet with plenty rellano sauce. Salsa is not overly hot, chunky with fresh products, and great pico sauce. They give you large beverages, icy and cold. They serve beer wine and Mexican soft drinks. The place is spotless, they have a large room for special events or parties. Easy parking and outside area to sit and enjoy the mountain view. Service personnel are happy, polite and eager to make your visit enjoyable. Ok now I gotta hurry back I feel the need for the burrito. read more

Long time travelers through Bishop on our way to the slopes. Open until 9 pm, Astorgas was a delicious respite for our hungry family. Established in 2001, this family owned restaurant is delightfully decorated outside with lights and heated patio area. Friendly greeters and very timely service. I had the grilled fish taco combo plate and a Paloma cocktail. Fresh tasting and quite flavorful. My family ordered the carne asada burrito , bean and cheese burrito, and carne asada quesadilla. The only thing I would comment on is the bean dip is basic pinto beans with cheese. Our server was friendly and the prices reasonable. read more

Astounding food. Like your neighborhood Mexican place. Super friendly staff, attentive, but did I mention the food? Hubby had the pork tamale. Presentation was best I've seen in even the fanciest of places and delicious. If you're going thru town, plan lunch or dinner here. Super fast service if you want it, but never rushed if you don't. Stopped by after our final day of climbing in the ORG. It was only about 4:30 in the afternoon, but we were famished. We were seated in the room off of the main dining area because we arrived with 6 and expected more to join us later. We were seated at a table that could easily seat 20. Chips and salsa were immediately dropped off. They were super good! The salsa is definitely freshly made, with lots of tomatoes and green onions and plenty of chilies for heat. I think it also tasted a bit garlicky. The chips were warmed, though I couldn't tell if they were freshly made. Regardless, they were tasty and stood up well to the salsa. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and were disappointed to taste that they were likely from a mix, as they were too sweet and not tart at all. Also, we had to prompt the server to bring lime and salt. I ordered my usual default Mexican favorite of chicken enchiladas with red sauce and rice. I wish that the description would have indicated that they come topped with green onions, sliced olives, and cotija cheese as well as the usual red sauce and cheese. It looked pretty, but I scraped it off because I don't like any of those. The meal was delicious and super filling. My friends also seemed to enjoy their entrees, especially the shrimp and steak fajita combo. The service was super friendly, and the servers remained calm, even when our party of 6 ballooned another three times until it ultimately reached 12 people in total. Our server let us pay our check up front, order by order. And we got to use the 10% off for my Yelp check-in! I will definitely return to Astorga's on my next climbing trip in Bishop! read more

The service sucked out loud! They weren't particularly busy, so there's really no excuse. There was litter on the floor in the dining area, and I've seen nicer bathrooms at truck stops. There were six in our party, and we had to ask multiple times for napkins and refills. My iced tea was served in a chipped cup! The salad I ordered came out to me about 1.5 minutes before the entrée. We were looking for Mexican food passing by Bishop from Lake Tahoe. Food was average but not worth the wait or service. This place caters to the locals rather than all customers. After about 12-15 minutes of waiting for someone to take our drink order, I finally brought it to a bus boy's attention and he then took our drink order. After about another 10 minutes, I noticed two parties that came after us were being waited on for their food order. I then had to call the waitress (older thin lady with dark brown hair in a bun or short pony) to let her know and she became argumentative. Saying she asked the party and they said they were here first. Really!? Is that a serious practice of restaurants?? Unless waiting in the butcher area at Stater Brothers, I have never been asked at a restaurant if I was here before another table. I was watching as all this happened and the fact she wants to debate about it only shows her defense because she was wrong. The younger waitress who sat us then intervened and apologized and took our order. She even said she would make sure to put our order in to the cook before the two other tables. This waitress was very sweet and helpful unlike the old bun lady who just wanted to be right. If it was not for this sweet young lady, we probably would have left after waiting 45 minutes for our food. And yes, the two tables received their food before we did. There was even another table that arrived even later that received their food before us. I can't help but think old bun lady was involved in that. The younger waitress again apologized for the wait in us getting our food. We didn't order anything complicated. Simple items: quesadilla, taco salad...Never again!!! I should have read these Yelp reviews before because we are definitely not the only ones that have complained about the service. Great vegetarian/ vegan burrito in Bishop! Manuel is incredibly friendly, and will work with your order to meet whatever vegan or vegetarian needs you may have! I strongly recommend the Veggie burrito (to be honest it is the only thing there I have ordered) but I hear the jeuvos rancheros and chilequiles are excellent. The veggie burrito is just so big and delicious, I can't bring myself to order anything else! The salsa is all great, my favorite is the macho salsa and the jalapeño salsa! If you ask nicely they will even give you enchilada sauce to go if you want to get your wet burrito on when you're in a rush. They charge for salsa which is a huge bummer, and generally speaking, this place is more expensive than the Mexican restaurants I am used to which is why it gets four stars. read more

We stopped in while driving by and the atmosphere was great. They have adapted well for the COVID-19 precautions with the staff constantly wearing face coverings and the tables spaced appropriately further than 6 feet. For the food, I had a sizzling fajita trio and my wife had wet supreme verde burrito. In addition to this meal and the chips and delicious salsa, we ordered chili relleno for later and every thing was delicious with a very patient and professional staff. So disappointing! We were passing through Bishop and craving Mexican food; after reading the reviews I thought Astorga's looked like a good choice. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito, and could barely pick through half of it. The meat was tough, chewy, and totally flavorless. My husband had a bite and picked gristle out of it. Stopped here for takeout on our way to Mammoth. Chips and salsa were so delicious we ate them all while waiting and had to order another!
