I've lived down the street from Bamboo Teri House for over a decade and have never tried it. I have read people praising their ramen and the restaurant overall. Once again unsure of what to eat, I decided to finally give them a try. While looking at the menu online, I saw that there is an Ichiban dinner special, which includes a sampling of a lot of different items on the menu. There's chicken katsu, teriyaki chicken, gyoza, an egg roll, seaweed salad, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and some California rolls. This seemed intriguing, so I ordered two of those for pick up. They told me that the prices are 20% from the menu, but I was okay with that. The two meals were like $30-ish. I thought everything in the meal was good, except for the seaweed salad which was a bit slimy. Also, I could have lived without the veggie egg roll, but that's me. It was a solid meal, and I had enough chicken and rice left over for lunch the next day. Score! read more

Japanese joint offering noodles, curries & sushi in a counter-serve space with a few dine-in tables. Offering: Comfort food,Happy hour food,Healthy options Quick bite,Small plates,Vegetarian options. Very friendly owner and wait staff. Generous portions. Economically priced. Decor and ambiance is unique. One of my favorite local popular Japanese lunch or quick diner choices. They have several options, Shrimp and veggies tempura was great light and crispy . Salmon and cream cheese roll was just as good, fresh, only $8 on happy hour 4-6pm. If you go at 11AM you can get the lunch specials, under $10 good portion. Got a little taste of Japanese food, inexpensive, sharp personnel and cozy too. Simple but quality place. Celebrating 40 years in business! Now i know why! You order at the counter. Decent sized menu so it takes a bit of perusing. The staff doesn't rush you but there might be a line so step aside and make yr decision THEN get in line. They also have takeout menus while yr making yr choices. Self-serve coca cola fountain drinks YAY! During the anniversary celebration they have a few items at 50% off but i chose the two-item combo. Mixed tempura and sesame chicken. After ordering, take yr table marker, grab yr drink, and find a table. Lots of 4-tops and a few 2-tops. Restroom is clean. My order arrived with miso soup and rice. At first glance, i could tell the tempura was gonna be perfect. Just the very light golden almost baby duck yellow and the fringe! That's how you know it's good. The cook has to dribble bits of batter after the item goes into the oil. Two small shrimp, a chunk of zucchini, and eggplant. And the oil is CLEAN tasting! Gives it a sweet quality but no sugar added. Perfect! The sesame chicken is thigh meat marinated, battered, and fried. A very tasty generous version of karaage! I couldnt eat it all so gave my husband two large chunks of chicken. Completely satisfied. read more

I have worked down the street for over 5 years, and yet this was my first time here. I went with two girlfriends of mine and all three of us thought that 1) The food was delicious 2) The service was great and attentive and 3) The prices were very reasonable. Great happy hour specials. We went in when they were having one of their specials that they run a few times a year. I have the teriyaki bowl is a huge size and it was half off at $6.45, my family got the super teriyaki bowls which come with fried vegetable and fried shrimp with teriyaki chicken and sesame chicken pretty big bowls for $6.95 at the half-off special price. I also got the Chinese chicken salad it was okay chicken some sliced cucumbers and lettuce not anything special but it was okay, just okay it could have used some crunchy noodles in it, besides the avocado and little cherry tomatoes. We also ordered a sushi spicy tuna sushi, and it was like $6.00 at the half off price. The teriyaki bowl had plenty of everything and the sauce is very tasty and not overly poured or drowning in the rice. Overall the portions are very are very good, and there is plenty of seating inside for small groups of four to six people. It appears that most orders are for takeout so they've already been phoned in. Parking can be hard sometimes it's there you just might have to wait for someone to pull out access into the restaurant is right there. The staff is polite and accommodating and always checking to see if everything's okay. read more

I've been coming here for a while and I love this mom & pop shop! Their prices are super affordable and have awesome daily specials you can't beat. Their katsudon bowl is amazing and flavorful, compared to other places that I've been to. I'm always craving it! Service isn't AS bad as others are writing about, but I would suggest that workers should check in on the dining area more often since it's a bit separated from the register. It's a nice little restaurant and they're currently setting up Christmas decorations which I thought was cute. Come and support this small business! read more

This place is super close to my work so I went to eat there with my coworkers for lunch. Its in a small plaza and is kinda hidden. It's what I would call a Japanese style diner. You order your food and then you get a number and pick your seats/table. They have ramen, udon, rice bowls, sushi, you name it. There are so many options. I paid $11 something including tax for a curry udon with no added protein. It's a little pricey if you ask me. But the food was good and it's convenient. The cashier was also really nice and gave us recommendations for what to order when we first came in and were just staring at the menu. My coworkers also liked their food so it's likely that I will come back. Their rice bowls looked really good. They also have specials. Maybe I'll come back to try other things on the days there on specials. read more

I passed by this place many times but didn't think about stopping by as it looked small and dated. Then I read on Neighbor app this restaurant it actually good sp decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. It's much larger than it looks from the outside and the cahier was so helpful and friendly. He patiently explained different dishes, the specials they had that evening & even made recommendations. I thought it was a good sign when I saw an LBPD officer picking up boxes of food when I walked in. The first time, I got food to-go. About a week later, my husband and I dined in. There were many others dining in and they all appeared to be familiar with the menu, staff and the restaurant. The decor is dated but it made me feel nostalgic. :-) We will definitely visit this restaurant again in the near future. read more

We love eating Bamboo Teri House! We recently discovered it and had only done takeout. It was always amazing and great value. Dining in was equally as good but we enjoyed the nice presentation of the food and friendly service of the staff. The restaurant is definitely mom and pop and not flashy, but it is clean and bright. The lunch combo is $10 and comes with a generous serving of teriyaki chicken, tempura, noodles, and a couple pieces of California roll. The chicken to rice ratio is perfect and the tempura is light and crunchy. The kids plate comes with chicken katsu, sweet potato tempura fries, noodles, Mandarin oranges, and toy. Another great value and the chicken katsu was perfectly cooked; tender, moist, and crispy. read more

The reason I'm giving them 3 stars is for the flies. Months ago they were cited by the city- we saw the posting on the door and decided to dine anyways. During our dinner, our table was literally attacked by little gnats and flies. We could t eat without swatting them away. Just an overall crappy dining experience. So we stopped going in the hopes that they would clean up there act. We gave it another try recently- and the flies are still there! Granted not as bad as the previous times, but still enough to notice and be annoyed by the swatting and shooing. I don't think we can go back after this. It's a shame because we really enjoyed eating there. We've been coming to Bamboo Teri House for years. It was our usual spot for eating out. The food is good, it's consistent. We have no issue with the food or the service. My family loves how they decorate for the seasons and holidays. read more

I love this place. The lunch specials and Ichiban dinner special are such a great value. Go on Tuesdays if you like tempura b/c they have great deals and on Thursdays they have additional lunch specials. The food is very home-style which I find comforting. Don't come here expecting Michelin star, gourmet, fancy food. (The only complaint I have is sometimes the rice is a little undercooked but nothing that nuking it in the microwave with some water can't fix. ) I love to call ahead to pick-up for lunch. It usually take about 15-20 minutes. The people at the front desk are always nice. read more

Met he Son of this establishment. He happens to be a foodie like my fiancé and i . He mentioned his family owned this sushi spot for over 33 yrs.. he is a foodie like my fiancé and i that being said had to try it out!! Happy hour M-F 2-6pm not to mention the other specials happening Tuesday and Thursday. Oh and $8 pitchers of Sapporo!! I went to this restaurant yesterday afternoon and ordered a (3) piece shrimp tempura and when I opened up the container to take a bite the shrimp was cold as if it was sitting out and not cooked when I placed my order. I gave it back and stated to the staff tgat that the tempura was cold and not freshly cooked. I didn't receive so much as an apology. I will NOT BE Patronizing this business again. i'm a fan. the food's great. the service is always friendly. parking is never an issue. price point is on point. the hubs + i always order to go. we get the to go chicken and shrimp (teriyaki chicken served over rice, tempura shrimp, one piece of broccoli, and noodles). we call it in, always ready within 10-15 minutes. read more

What happened to this place! We came in at 12 noon today, Door was still locked and when the girl unlocked the door, she does not even open the door to greet us. Did not make eye contact, was not friendly at all even borderline rude. Handed us the wrong order and did not even apologize when we told her it was the wrong order. Her rude demeanor just left a bad taste in my mouth we cannot even enjoy my meal. She acted like she did not want to be there today. It is sad because the owner has always been nice and pleasant. She was there too today but she is mostly in the kitchen. Never coming back here. And the outside parking area smelled like piss. read more

I've patronized this established for over 15 years. Today, I ordered the Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll, & gyoza. Everything LOOKED good. Sadly the sushi was bad! The only edible part was the gyoza. Ieft all but two pieces from each roll as neither tasted right. I told the owner and she had nothing but excuses. No partial refund or anything! Now I'm hoping I don't get sick! If I do, they'll be paying the bill. read more

History

Established in 1985.

In 1985, Joji Ota decided it was time to introduce his passion for Japanese food to the city of Long Beach. He and his family chose the wonderful Bixby Knolls neighborhood to open their take out restaurant. It was a small humble space with only four tables, but a lot of heart. The Japanese have always believed the bamboo plant to be a symbol of strength and longevity. Exposed to the harshest forces nature can muster bamboo will bend, but never break. It remains strong, year after year. Thus the name Bamboo Teri House was chosen in hopes that Joji's restaurant would take on the same characteristics as its namesake. Almost thirty four years later, Bamboo Teri House is proud to have lived up to its name. Not much has changed (besides the larger dining room); it is still family owned and still the best Japanese taste in town! So come on in! We promise you high quality ingredients, great value and a most delicious experience, straight from Joji's heart.

Other places plaster the batter on there and you're sittin there trying to find the shrimp. Although once I did take out (and I live about 15 minutes away), got home and it was mushy :( Take my advice, its best to eat it there while its hot n fresh. Well worth it. My husband ended up not eating the miso salmon, so I ate it. I ate half in a separate plate and added the miso sauce (since it came in a separate container). I was good. The salmon could use a little seasoning. The miso taste is very subtle, but was good. I know it's meant to be a healthy dish. The vegetables were steamed, so again it didn't have much flavor. But overall it was a good dish. Because we ordered thru a third party, they packed the food really well. And I like how they have the utensils, chopsticks, napkins already pre-packaged so it's easy to include in to-go orders.
