We returned for another Christmas night dinner one year later, with about a dozen intervening visits. The quality is still excellent, with many dishes not found in an Americanized Chinese restaurant. Two issues stand in the way of the fifth star: - Some of the waitstaff have limited English language skills. This can make it difficult to have a dialogue when there are questions or special requests. - The racial stereotyping continues: our table is always set with silverware, replacing their basic setting of chopsticks. We are continually warned about menu items (this is served cold; that is spicy) on the assumption that we must not know our way around authentic Chinese food. I don't think their intentions are bad, but it's still annoying. I'm sure that Asian-Americans are far more often the object rather than the perpetrators of stereotyping. All the more reason for them not to make assumptions about their customers based on appearance. read more

Very average with above average prices. The good was well presented but it was incredibly bland. Literally no flavor. Service was poor. 15 minutes and no one came to the table. I don't rate many restaurants these days, and wow this food was so darn good I just had to! I now wish I would've taken pictures. The prices were super cheap! We come from Boston/Lynn area which prices are doubled so we were surprised by how nice this place was and how good the food is for the cheap price! 1. We had the beef lomein (beef was soft, succulent, juicy, just perfect guys!!) the lomein had many veggies in it, perfect amount of sauce, not dry at all. 2. White rice was even yummy! Like what? 3. Not very good This is a new restaurant that has opened in Lexington Center and given the more upscale location we were hoping for the best. We tried a variety of dishes and found that the flavor and execution for many of the dishes was not good. The scallion pancake was just greasy and not crispy. Shredded pork and spicy tofu was characterized by a lack of pork and a non-descript salty sauce.The Noodle with Peking Sauce also had a very strange-tasting salty sauce and was basically inedible. Other dishes were unusually sweet.The General Gau's chicken was very good though. For the prices, which are a bit above average for a Chinese restaurant, we would have expected more refined flavors and execution, but the dishes we got just did not live up to the mark. This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. Great location and service. My husband & I spent a wonderful night over there meeting our long time friends & their two lovely daughters. All of us enjoyed delicious food and dinning environment. We especially love appetizer calamari, very unique, quite different from the cold calamari appetizer or fried calamari we used to have, it is a hot appetizer with shredded ginger and red pepper, very fresh and tasty. I have tried Pot-Roast Pork, Chinese Spaetzle and Egg Drop Soup, Pot-Roast Pork with Scallion Pancake Platter, Chinese Muffin Stuffed with Pot-Roast Pork or Beef, Noodle with Peking Sauce, Cumin Flavored Stir-Fried Beef, Kung Pao Spicy Chicken, and Beijing Dumplings. They are so good. I heard their chain restaurants in Beijing China, Guolin Homestyle restaurant sent their chef here, that's why they can make real Chinese food. I ate there on a Saturday evening and order chicken and broccoli. The lowest quality "white meat" chicken I think I've ever experienced in a Chinese restaurant. I left most of it. Priced at only $10.95, they should raise their quality and their prices. Pretty restaurant, very empty on a Saturday evening about 6:00. I love this place for many reasons. First, the food is amazing. I think my favorites are the scallion pancakes and the chicken fried rice. We have been many, many times and never had anything we didn't like. Second, they really could not be any nicer here. They are welcoming to us and so kind to our 1 year old son who often comes with us. They remember our favorite drinks and meals and are happy to recommend new things to try. Last time I was there, the waitress remembered that I didn't like the skin on the eggplant and asked the chef to peel it for me. I had a coupon from a book I bought from a Lexington lacrosse player so I thought I would try out a new Chinese restaurant. The reason for the mediocre rating is the fact that the cashier did not honor the coupon. He claimed it was for dine in only but that was not listed on the coupon. When he claimed it didn't matter because I was $2 shy of the minimum for the coupon I said I would order something else to make it valid. He then reminded me it was for dine only which made it clear to me he wasn't going to honor it. I paid, thanked the man for his time, and quietly went on my way. The ordering online process was great. Just click what you want, the order is totaled and you pick up at a time of you choice. That was very convenient. The food was good, it was not greasy, and it was hot (temperature). The food was ready on time and the staff was pleasant. I will not be returning because they did not honor my coupon. I usually go to Changhai but I went to this restaurant because I had the coupon and wanted to try it. I will continue to go to Changhai for Chinese take out. It's not about the $10 I did not save. It was about not feeling like I was valued as a customer and for that reason I won't return. read more

Enjoyed a wonderful takeout meal from Beijing this past winter. My family all agreed that the food was delicious and was not greasy at all. The restaurant appeared to be very clean and everyone was friendly while I waited. They had ample seating at a bar and many dining tables nicely spread out in different areas which I liked very much. As the location is on the second floor of the building, the outdoor seating available has a great view of historic downtown Lexington. We are looking forward to enjoying a dine-in meal on their deck this summer. read more

We popped in for lunch on a Tuesday. We were very pleasantly surprised with the affordable lunch menu. We chose this restaurant over the buffet (didn't look appetizing enough for the $16.95 price tag) at Yangtze River after checking that out first. The menu is lacking in descriptions of the dishes so things like the Beijing Pan fried noodles we didn't really know what we were in for. We ordered the Ginger Squid appetizer, beef and mushroom lunch plate, general Gao chicken, and the noodles mentioned before. I think we waited about 15 minutes for our food to arrive, it felt a little longer because we were with our children and they were antsy in the booth. The General Gao's chicken was very good - still crispy and mildly sweet but not especially spicy. My 4 and 7 year olds agreed it was good. It was served with a few heads of steamed broccoli and the was nicely plated. The beef and mushrooms was excellent - tender beef and nicely flavored sauce that was again mildly sweet but not especially spicy. Hubby asked for brown rice and it was good. The biggest surprise was the Pan fried noodle dish a it had a medley of proteins - scallops, shrimp, beef, pork and chicken with lots of veggies that were cooked well (neither over not under done). It was delicious and the seafood was tender and creamy. The noodles had a nice balance of saucy and crispy. The only thing that I didn't think was excellent was the Hot and Sour Soup - I just didn't find it sour or spicy enough. The decor was very pleasant and modern - shades of light and mid tone gray accented with a rusty orange and silver metals. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and has that airy feel, which was really surprising! There is also patio seating in the summer months from what we could see. The ladies room was clean and well stocked. All in all, this was the nicest and most affordable nicer Chinese sit down meal we've had in a while. I tend to avoid Chinese restaurants because I find most of them to be heavy on fried options and sticky sauces that just aren't my thing plus not as many veggies as I'd like (unless you order the vegetarian option). We'll be back to this one next time we're in Lexington Center! read more

Being a long time Lexington's resident, I wanted to experience a good Chinese restaurant in my neighborhood. I think I found it. The menu does not offer hundred of possibilities, but this is precisely why I like it. The food was above what I expected. Everything was tasty.. The decor is simple and modern. If you don't mind waiting for over an hour for service (with reservations) by all means try this place. We arrived 10 minutes early so we told the maitre di we'd wait there for our table. After not hearing from him again, we ordered food from the bar. As we finished sharing a scorpion bowl, we were now 30 minutes into our reservation and still waiting for some portion to arrive. After more than an hour's wait we left without eating a thing.
