First of all, this place was a BUSY BEE. I found it through Yelp and brought my momma here for some good 'ole brunch. I ordered an iced latte, which lemme give u some background, is one of my favorite drinks of all time. Came earlier today because we were going to be in the Long Beach area and decided to grab a bite before going to the Aquarium. This place is located near some residential streets (where we parked) and offers indoor and outdoor seating. This place looks small on the inside but there are two rooms that can sit maybe 50 or more people at one time and includes bar seating. My husband got the Cubano Benedict (has pork, ham, and cheese) along with one side of pancake because he wanted to try it. He liked the pancake, which was slightly sweet and ate it without maple syrup. As far as the benedict goes, he can't remember how he felt while eating it! (It also doesn't help he's making cookies as I'm writing this and asking him questions about the food!)...so I'll leave it at that.... I got the half soup and sandwich (tomato soup and a BLT). I really liked my meal which also came with chips and a garlicy type of dip. The BLT had a lot of crisp lettuce in it, which I love! And crispy bacon! The soup was also homemade and delicious (even when I dipped my sandwich in it). The only 'blah' thing about this dish were the chips and the dip. They serve beer/wine cocktails, and have an espresso machine, but it was broken on the day we visited. The space is sparsely decorated and smells strongly of oil, but they have patio seating if you want to avoid this. The Cinnamon Swirl French Toast had good flavor and the bananas on top were perfectly ripe, but I did not love their bread choice. It was somehow soggy and dry at the same time. The poached eggs atop the Eggs Flower were gooey perfection, but the muffin was dense, and I disliked the oddly bitter hollandaise. The hash browns served alongside were undercooked. Service was friendly and fast. Their drip coffee was good, but I wished I could have ordered an espresso. Overall, I think Blackbird Cafe is a decent spot, but we will not go back. read more

You know a place is good when it is packed beyond belief. The cute cafe had wonderful decor and paintings inside from talented artists. The only downside about the place was that is was very crowded and got kinda hot inside after a while. It's also a little difficult to find parking, but not impossible. The food was absolutely amazing. I always love a good Greek scramble and this restaurant did not disappoint. The tater tots are also amazingly crunchy and savory without being too greasy. The Elvis peanut butte pancakes were so unique and delicious. The banana perfect compliment the honey and pairs perfect with the peanut butter. It is a bit doughy for my liking but still the best thing here. Definitely not coming back here. Although our server was nice, she was inattentive and unaware. When I noticed that the table behind us (who came in after us) received their food before us, I asked the server to check on our food. She brings it out and tells us that the guy who brought it out just brought out the food out of order. My boyfriend got the Eggs Benedict and took two bites. The eggs were overcooked so there was no run for the yolk and the hash browns were cold. Clearly, the dishes had been sitting for a minute. I got the The Matador omelet and was not impressed. I don't like fighting with my food. With the onions, green onions, and sausages all left in big chunks, by the time I'd cut up anything, my eggs were basically demolished. When the server came back to ask if we needed anything, she took no notice that my boyfriend wasn't touching his food and his plate was still full and I was asking for the check mid-bite. I ordered the peanut butter pancakes which I thought were pretty good! They also offer a side of sautéed tofu (they call it scrambled tofu), however it is not "scrambled." It is literally just cubed tofu that has been heated. If you don't eat eggs, like me, but want a substitute, I don't recommend the side of tofu.
