    Christmas Buffet
    Lana O.

Buffet's ain't for everyone. Heck, some would scoff at the idea of eating anything but a home-cooked meal with family on Christmas. My family (mom is 78 this year) decided to try something new: reservations for four next to the fireplace for Christmas Dinner Buffet. The staff were all friendly, smiling, and happy to be working at Christmas. I noticed several large groups (including one table sitting 15!) as well as 2-person tables. The Carving Station was quite impressive, offering Prime Rib, Ham, and Roast Turkey. The traditional sides were featured, along with individual Shrimp Cocktail, cold Crab Legs, warm shrimp scampi, and four different fresh, extra-cheesy pizza options! My sweet tooth was impressed with warm bread pudding with vanilla sauce and both hot berry and peach cobbler. OMG! I've lived in Reno for 35+ years but hadn't been up to North Reno to visit Bonanza Casino in about 15 years. They celebrated 50 years in 2023... they are definitely doing something right. Get up the hill and check out this local, long-time establishment!!!

Eggs Benedict, sausage and bacon, shrimp cocktail and meatloaf

Another Sunday, another chance to dine at the Branding Iron Cafe Sunday breakfast. The usual fare was there: salad, shrimp cocktail, oatmeal, sausage links, bacon, eggs Benedict plus all the other meats at the carving station, the made-to-order station and the dessert station. The service was alright this time around: the carving station lady was busy with something in the back kitchen, leaving her station unattended for an ample amount of time to form a queue of people waiting for a slice of prime rib. Our server was pleasant enough but inattentive. Savannah, the manager and young man who was our buss person were exceptional, they checked in on our party so many times and cleared discarded dishes, replenished drinks, gave us a couple extra napkins, it more than made up for our absentee server. Overall, our dining experience was still fairly positive.

This is a casino restaurant and with it comes some expectations. I have never been before and I will likely not go back. My cake batter pancakes were poor the first go around and about as poor the 2nd time. So as to not disappoint my host I slogged through the pancakes. "Hard" on one side, soft ish on the other and not that tasty for "cake batter". Waitress was busy on several tables. Maybe it's worth a second visit.

Four of us went there for dinner for the first time on Saturday evening around 5:30. The café was pretty empty. That puzzled us as it was a Saturday night. We were promptly seated and given menus to look at. We were also given water and iced tea pretty quickly. The server soon arrived and took our order. She was quite lovely and very funny. I ordered the traditional turkey dinner. It came with a salad. The salad arrived promptly. We just started eating our salads when our dinners arrived. That always frustrates me because my dinner is sitting there getting cold while I'm finishing my salad. The rest of the party felt the same way. Our server actually apologized about it. Nonetheless, we finished our salads and started eating our dinners. Our table was pretty small and there wasn't a lot of space with the salads and dinners all on the table at the same time. The bus person never came to pick up our salad plates. Finally, I was able to catch his eye and asked him to remove the salad plates. He also never returned to refill our water glasses. I finally asked our server if she could do that for us. Everyone agreed that the vegetables were overly salty. Actually, none of us ate them. My entire turkey dinner was also extremely salty. The ambience was OK, but I please know that you certainly smell a lot of smoke from the casino in the café. The prices are reasonable, but based on the quality of the food and the inattentive service, I'm not sure I will be racing back.

So tonight we've hit our fiftieth visit in five months. We've had every nightly dinner special and a few NY Steak and Eggs, $10.95 from midnight to 5am on the weekends. In addition to the good food and large portions, the management here seems to find the best people. Basically, every new server we encounter ends up being good folks and more than just waitstaff. We had the pleasure of dining with Monique tonight. She's very quick to get our order in and served. But, that's not the end of it. She keeps close tabs on us until we leave. Talk about a delight to talk to, we always try to get her to join our party. Poor girl. She tolerates us well! 01/25

Savannah, and Luyen were amazing this morning! My family and I came out for breakfast this morning and had an odd request that was accommodated and worked out for us immediately! Luyen was on top of our drinks and they were never even close to empty and she had the absolute best attitude! Savannah was the best server taking us in her section with an awesome attitude and great service! Continually asking if we needed anything at all, and ensuring our experience within the restaurant was going well. 10/10 experience. Not to mention the food is reasonably priced! Definitely coming back and recommending to family in the area.

First time trying the buffet since it relaunched. The food was outstanding. From fresh salad choices to a great breakfast selection. Made to order omelets and a dessert selection. The staff were attentive and friendly. The table service for drinks was fast. Family friendly and a great choice for weekend dining. It was not fast paces and we didn't feel rushed.

Until this 4th of July weekend (250/2026) we had never heard of Archie's. It was recommended to us and we stopped in on Sunday the 5th for lunch on our way out of town. What an amazing choice. I ordered their bacon cheese burger. Guess what? It was GIANT. It was delicious. It was perfect. Comes with fries but I got onion rings. The onion rings were perfect too. Largest order of rings I have ever seen. The burger (1/2 Lb I think!!) had nice thick bacon in every bite, two large and fresh slices of tomato, a big old slab of an onion slice, mayo and lettuce. I can't remember if there were pickles. It was the best burger and onion rings I have eaten in at least ten years, maybe 20. We will be back, EVERY time we are in town from now on. I can't recommend this place enough. Special shout out to David, our server. This guy made no mistakes. Laughed at all my stupid dad jokes, was attentive, patient while my companions changed their minds 36 times, and was friendly too. Says it was only his 2nd day on the job, but I wish he had been working for us at our restaurant (Hokkaido Noodle House) in Sacramento. He is a pro already, give him reasons to keep working for you boss. Don't worry, we won't steal him from you, we are retired and closed our joint 10 years ago. Rock on Archie's! You have earned a few new fans today.

Was surprised it had a second floor with a small deck and pretty decent views! Big place. Great Happy Hour Deals (half off drinks) and other specials. I haven't eaten breakfast there but the burger I'd put in the top 4 in Reno. It is giant diameter wise but the meat is the same amount of a smaller thicker burger which makes it no too hard to eat. I'd call this a Purist's Burger. Crisp lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, sauce. They went really light on the sauce to the point I didn't think it had any. Fries were excellent too. Price is very reasonable (that's typical near a college.) I've tried Royce, Juicy's, and The Parlor. I'd put Archies below Royce and Parlor but above Juicy's. Two left on my list are Armando & Son's Butcher Shop and of course Beefy's.

When we arrived, every table was full, so we grabbed seats at the bar. It turned out to be a great spot to watch the bartenders create beautiful drinks, including some of their signature cocktails served in a glass purse for parties of two or more. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with groups celebrating birthdays and other special occasions. After looking over the menu, we decided on the lox crostini bites and the bruschetta. We each ordered a glass of sparkling wine. I added a chocolate rim to mine, which was fun to look at, although it didn't add much flavor. While we waited for our food, we enjoyed watching the flowing chocolate waterfall. Considering how busy the bar was, our food arrived quickly. The crostini were crisp, and both appetizers were fresh and flavorful. The only drawback was the volume of the DJ, but we knew what to expect as soon as we walked through the door. This is definitely a fun place for parties and groups looking for a lively night out. One last observation: I probably wouldn't choose this spot for a group of men. The décor and overall vibe are very much geared toward women, but the name says it all.

I tried the McIsley (fried chicken, dill pickles, ground mustard, honey) and nearly passed out from pure bliss. The biscuit is golden brown on the outside while warm and pillowy within. You'll need a fork and knife, but the menagerie of sweet and savory building blocks will come together any which way you deconstruct it. My wife tried The Chatfield (fried chicken, cheddar, bacon, apple butter) and was equally content. The Oregon Marionberry jam was a tart yet sweet customized side, and I much enjoyed the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese to round off the plate. The breading is evenly blasted with seasoning and the tomatoes themselves are plump but not the least bit soggy. Without a doubt though, the service was unmatched. There was a list of specials for the day too. - For a place that has "wine" in the name, I thought the wine list was a bit limited/uninspired...the reds, for example, were heavily focused on CA wines, with a few Italian ones thrown in. - My wife and I ordered the Bee Sting Pizza, the Pistachio Pesto Arancini, and the Wedge Salad...all to share between the two of us. While everything was good, the Wedge Salad was the standout, with the Arancini's a close second (and a great sized portion). One of our friends ordered the Salmon special, and it looked good but pretty small in size considering the ~$40 price tag. - Service was good. There was a mess up where the server didn't hear our friend's order correctly and brought the wrong item, but she fixed it although it meant that he didn't his food for a while after the rest of us started eating. It was an honest error, but it would be good if the staff were empowered to do some kind of goodwill gesture, e.g., a free drink, a free appetizer while he's waiting for the food, etc., when something like that happens. - There was a weird thing that happened on our bills...the total that was on the itemized bill that we got from our server didn't match up with the pre-transaction processing fee total that was on our credit card copy...and, unfortunately, our server couldn't explain why. And, yes, there is a 2.5% credit card transaction fee added on (which we didn't see on the menu or anywhere else, but we learned about when we got the itemized bill). - Vibe is just ok...it's pretty loud and the tile floor and tables/chairs felt a little cafeteria-like. I wouldn't call it cozy by any means. Bottom line: Liberty Food & Wine Exchange was a nice place to meet up and the food was tasty...when I asked my wife if she would go back again, her answer was that we should try other places first, which is probably what we'll do.
