Parking was fairly easy at the trademark location Service was awesome. Super hospitable and professional. Food : * The brisket is by far the best brisket I've had. Melts in your mouth. Extremely flavorful and honestly I placed an order to go. * Pork ribs were not too fatty. Flavorful seasoning (dry rub). It doesn't need any bbq sauce but it would complement it well. * biscuits were good, they have a cheesy flavor to them. Portion size was good and they weren't super dry. *Mac and cheese. Real cheese. Not super saucy. The noodles were cooked perfectly. (My boyfriend and I had different in opinions on how we like it. He loved it. I wasn't a fan) WE BOTH agreed that the noodles were cooked really well, that it wasn't saucy, and that it was probably be made with real cheese. I've now gotten food from this bbq place twice (edit: 3 times now!), since they're often at Trademark, I love the beer there, and beer and bbq go particularly well together - it isn't the best bbq I've ever had, but is probably the best I've had in Long Beach, at least recently - Johnny Rebs' used to be good, ages ago, but has gone sadly downhill. Or I might have just discovered higher standards for bbq since I've had *really* good bbq - though admittedly, it's unfair to compare *anyone* else to Franklin Barbeque (they really spoiled me), but I have had better brisket a few other places (sadly, none of them were around here). Anyway, the first time I was here, it was pretty late (around 8 - they'd been running since 1), so they were out of most of the sides, but I was able to get a quarter pound of brisket and a quarter pound of pulled pork, two of my favorite bbq meats - and certainly much less expensive than Franklin, I'll give them that (that order was $12.50 + tax). The brisket was good, but not excellent (I enjoyed it, but it was a little dry); the pulled pork, on the other hand, was close to perfect. The second time, I was here earlier in the evening, so I was able to also try their mac & cheese, which was, likewise, good but not amazing (I also got more of their pulled pork, which was still extremely good). Both times, they were super friendly, and both times, they said it'd take ~10 minutes to get my food but actually ended up only taking ~5. So basically, there are a few bbq places I would go well out of my way to eat at again, and this isn't one of them, but being that they're often at Trademark, which is thankfully *not* far out of my way, I will very likely continue to eat their bbq pretty often anyway, since bbq and beer go so well together - and given that I've become a bit of a bbq snob, that still says something, I'd argue. edit: I was just back to give them another try, figuring the brisket may have been a bit dry cause I was there later in the day, so I got there right when they opened this time. Funny enough, yes, the brisket was indeed better this time (though their fatty brisket, the fat was still a bit more gelatinous than I prefer - I'd rather a more "melt in your mouth" feel, but regardless, it was pretty good brisket)... but I also felt like this time the pulled pork was a bit fattier than I remembered (it was still totally enjoyable though, just not as basically-perfect as I remembered from the previous couple visits). Anyway, I still wouldn't say I'd go well out of my way for this bbq, and that I've had better bbq (none of which was in SoCal), but do still I want to upgrade it to a 4 1/2 star review (call it a "soft 5"), because they're just so dang friendly and helpful, they have great bbq and hot sauce, the meat is good enough (especially with a really good michelada like the ones at Trademark!) that I definitely think I'll at least prioritize going to Trademark preferentially for when Brothers is there over other times, plus this time, they also included some complimentary (delicious) pickled onions and peppers (I hope they keep doing that!) I also gave the mac & cheese another try, and it was also better than I remembered (I could really taste the gouda this time), as well as trying their biscuits, which are really quite excellent biscuits - they're not huge, but you get 4 of them, so $5 is a reasonable enough price for them given the quality. (Side note, a weird combo that's oddly delicious: dipping their biscuits in their hot sauce.) read more

I was at an event over the weekend that Brothers Keeper BBQ catered. I was able to sample a few of their items and would definitely consider having them cater any gathering I do in the future! I thought it was awesome that they came with their smoker and grill- super prepared and very friendly. Baked beans: By far my favorite. The flavor is rich and warm, and it has a good texture. I would literally eat an entire bowl of this again. I think there was an excellent balance of beans and sauce. Mac & Cheese: There's a good balance of pasta and cheese sauce here. I'm particular when it comes to mac and cheese because at most places it tastes so bland. The mac and cheese was seasoned perfectly! Chicken wings: The wings were fried and cooked just right. I put a little bit of bbq sauce on top and it definitely added to the flavor of the wing. Yummy! Pork Rib: I felt like the rib I was served was a little tough, however it was still delicious. I ate mine without bbq sauce. You could taste the smoky flavor and even though I was super full at that point, I could have had another. I was in charge of finding a caterer for a private party and these guys knocked it out of the park. Last minute change of venue- no problem. Last minute additions to my order- no problem.. vegan option? Sure! They had my order ready on time for pick up since it changed from catering to a pick up order (again last minute, no problem!) Communication was always quick which made planning and last minute requests a breeze. The food... holy crap was it GOOOD, like three O's kind of good. Everyone at my party was raving about how amazing everything was. The menu consisted of spare ribs, brisket (a winner in everyone's book), Gouda mac and cheese, biscuits, house salad, and vegan tofu "burnt ends" on quinoa... just thinking about it makes me want another slice of brisket. We found out about this spectacular bbq from a suggested Instagram post. We tried it out on the strength of how great the bbq looked and were blown away by how amazing the bbq is. We got a couple of combo plates to try a few different meat options, plus the smoked cheddar sausage and biscuits. The first thing we tried was the smoked cheddar sausage it was so ridiculously good, smoky, cheesy with balanced seasoning. The ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and tri-tip were tender and cooked to perfection. Just enough seasoning and bark to enhance the flavor of the meat. The smoke gouda mac and cheese was very cheesy and a must get. The coleslaw was very good a little tangy and creamy. And finally the honey biscuits were perfectly light tender biscuits that don't need butter. You definitely have loyal customers now. We will be waiting for the next pop event. read more

Ever since I moved to LA, finding quality BBQ has been a problem. Not anymore. This is great BBQ, the best in LA. I had the ribs, which had a lovely brown sugar based rub that was very enjoyable. Not too sweet and not too spicy. I also had the Brisket, which was smoked in a Texas salt and pepper rub. The slices were a bit too thick for my taste, but it was still great. It's rare to find good Texas brisket in this town, so that very minor complaint is worth it. Sides consisted of a great homemade Mac n Cheese that was kid approved by the 9 and 11 yo kids and adults alike. The honey butter biscuits were also great and eaten quickly. All in all, a great meal.
