We really WANTED to like this place now that El Burro announced they're closing down in The Pruneyard. Haven't been here in 10+ yrs and now wish we had waited a little longer. The free chips and salsa were brought out within 1 minute of being seated, excellent! Cadillac Margaritas were served quickly and were terrific, but SHOULD be for $13. Service was prompt and attentive throughout our meal. That was all fine until the entrees were brought out. Chile Verde - how can there be no heat or even taste of chiles in Chile Verde? Really disappointing and with an overpowering cumin flavor. My Enchilada Suisas were also disappointing with a very bland orange/brown sauce. Maybe this was an off night, but a family-run business needs better quality control. An $80 bill (incl tip) for 2 mid-priced entrees, 1 side house salad and 2 Cadillac margaritas should get you an excellent meal and/or a scenic setting. We got neither. Hopefully, the owners read these reviews to check for themselves because they certainly have a loyal following. Sadly, our entrees tonight gave us no reason to be among them. read more

So just ate takeout from this joint for my wife's birthday. I visited yelp of course to find this dung heap...four stars I figured how bad could it be. Just goes to show that you are at the mercy of others bad taste when simply going off the star rating. Anyway the one positive I can say is that one of the salsa's we got with our to go meal was good. We both had the enchiladas with ranchero sauce as the waitress recommended it as one of the better dishes they did. I can't imagine worse Mexican food...it all tasted like MSG and the ranchero sauce seemed like bad holidays...so seriously 12.95 for two small enchiladas with restaurant depot ingredients. Guacamole also sucked big time... seriously if you like the food here you might as well eat out of a trash can for free as that is exactly what you are getting. after just having a bite of this food I feel like taking a shower and purging myself. It's lively, the folks are SUPER friendly, the salsa is excellent (2 kinds!!), the entree plates are the size of a bus steering wheel (HUGE), The cost is resonable, $30 for dinner for 2 with dessert,)and the food was YUMMO traditional Mexican fare....probably my new favorite Mexican place!! I have been wanting to try this place since my BF moved into the neighborhood, just a little over a year ago, and because of the parking situation (lot is small and always full, park on side street), we never actually made it. Now I am so glad we have!! And I'm even more excited to hear that they don't use LARD in the beans (vegetarian), so that's another plus. It was really crowded and loud, hard to hold a conversation. Service was reasonable, but sometimes a little hard to get the waiters attention (probably because of how crowded the restaurant was) My dad said the iced tea tasted like it was made in soap water so he had to send it back and get a water. Food wasn't terrible I suppose, but definitely nothing to write home about. Guacamole was kinda bland and the steak was decent at best. Huge restaurant which is the first plus I don't think I've ever waited more than five minutes here and it's always packed. Sign number one this place is managed well :) sign number two you sit down and automatically have homemade chips n salsa sitting in front of you- love this. And sign number three the food is always consistently great!!! I'll say this not somewhere I go right before a vaca if I'm watching calories at all Lol. I commonly order the shrimp quesadilla which is loaded with large prawns and gooey yummy cheese or the taco salad packed with beef, beans, cheese and all the fixings! and of course a couple cold ones- ice cold corona and modelos with a bit of salt n lime hit the spot after a long day at work. I've been here a few times and I always order the same dish - chicken mole enchiladas. After trying it the first time, I got hooked on it. Their mole is the best that I've had at any restaurant. Its always the right consistency and the right flavor. This is a family restaurant - literally. Every time I've gone, the restaurant if full of families with children. So you bet its noisy, but bearable as its a lively atmosphere. On weekends there is live music in the way of trios playing classic Mexican songs. Some of the trios play and sound better than others. During the pandemic Casa Lupe has the best take out service I have experienced! My family of 8 ordered food on Tuesday night it was ready within 30 minutes! It was delicious, hot and huge portions. We stopped by Casa Lupe on a Friday night and we're seated right away. We started with chips and guacamole, which was delicious. I ordered the chicken fajitas and my boyfriend ordered the tostada. The food came out quickly and it tasted great, my only recommendation is that the meals came out with refried beans instead of beans in water on the side. read more

Being new to the area, I read through most of the reviews and decided to give Casa Lupe a shot, despite my tendencies to be "picky" about my Mexican food, 1. Service was very prompt and pleasant. 2. Food arrived very hot, 3. I judge places by their rice, beans, chile verde and salsa, and I give them about an 8 out of 10. Not the best I've ever had, but still enjoyable and tasty. No complaints, other than when they warn you the plate is hotm it is VERY hot! Don't get your arm near it! Teen son had the shrimp quesadilla, was really tasty! Hubby had the tres colores enchiladas, and he enjoyed the cheese much more than he thought he would. Chicken is normally his favorite. We'll be going back, for sure. Atmosphere was colorful, and very casual. No need to get dressed up at all. read more

My husband and I just went for brunch, I had never been there before, and he had only been once. It wasn't too busy and had a really chill vibe initially, the we were greeted and sat really promptly. The guy who first served us was this boisterous, outgoing dude, and super helpful with recommendations. Our waitress was equally helpful and was always there when we needed her without being too overbearing. Food wise though, this place was excellent. He got the Menudo and I got the Plato Tres Colores. The portions were huge and everything was hot and fresh. Especially the chicken enchilada I got though, I was surprised at how moist the chicken was, as normally when I go out to places the shredded chicken is always dry, so it was a pleasant surprise. So I normally go to the location in Sunnyvale; because their margaritas are bomb! I wanted to give this location to try, with the hopes that the margaritas would be just as good. But lo and behold I had to order an extra shot on the side. Whereas I would go to Casa Lupe numbers two and order margaritas with no issues. My wife ordered cat fish tacos, the cut of fish was perfect but it had no taste; it was very bland! So I'm a little perturbed to say that having a night out with my wife wasn't completely ruined; but I wouldn't recommend anyone getting the cat fish tacos. What the hell happened!?!?!! This used to be a great family restaurant. I had not been there for several months, and today's experience says I won't be returning. Service remained good but the food sucked! Tortilla chips used to arrive warm and freshly cooked--Today's were cold and stale like a generic prebagged warehouse brand. I ordered fish tacos and they arrived in gummy cold tortillas. (I thought they might have been flour, but after bringing the uneaten portion of my meal home and cooking them, I discovered they were just raw corn tortillas. Amazing they had been folded without cracking). All told, the food we had today was substandard, which was shocking since the food we used to get from Casa Lupe was so utterly delicious. I'm guessing their long time cooks quit or died? Or worse than death: New Management ....? I'm totally heartbroken. read more

One word: MOLE. This Latina says "Order the chicken mole" Decadent Dark Chocolate mole sauce with chicken breast. So rich and delicious. And if you don't finish your plate please call me and I will come straightaway!!!! Service was fast and on point. We ordered a mango margarita and a melon margarita. The melon margarita tasted like a honeydew melon. The drinks were light however we weren't looking to get drunk. I have no qualms asking for more alcohol if we so desired. I went here last night for my brother farewell party after long hours of drinking. My ex coworkers and I sat down at a table of 10 and man it was crowded at first we had to ask to add another table which took forever for them to clean up and set up. The server really sucked i can not believe the waitress, I believe that she knew she was going to get the gratuity tip of 18% so she just left us a lone most of the time. I had to ask another waiter for water 3 time and for them to refill the endless chips and salsa... we were drunk and hungry and needed to sober up. Anyways, I ordered the carnitas with corn tortilla ... they brought me flower, but i did not care i was hungry anyways. The refried beans were nasty as hell, my carnitas was soft and tender, but no flavor all i could taste was the lime they gave me to squirt on the meat. I would probably come here again with a smaller crowd so I know I will be taken care of instead of brushed off because they know they are going to get a gratuity. I never seen their back room before. It was so nice. It was decorated so tastefuly with different colors and objects. I had chevalas. And super nachos. It was so flood. The food is always great. The service is always extremely quick. They keep the chips and salsa coming all meal long if you want, which is good because the chips and salsa are amazing. The margaritas are plenty strong. The price is correct for the quality of food and the service that you receive. Anyone who says "I started to get sick..." needs to qualify that statement - did you throw up or have to "run for the border" because of the runs? Getting a case of diarrhea from good Mexican food isn't out of the normal at all, so quit rating this place poorly because your pansy stomach couldn't handle the goodness that is Casa Lupe! read more

I hosted my man's 60th Birthday Party here last Saturday night and Casa Lupe truly exceeded my expectations. Al is great to work with. He listened to my wants for a menu and room set up and coordinated everything with his staff flawlessly. Food and service were outstanding! We included an open bar for our friends and family and Julio worked his magic keeping the beverages flowing and our guests very happy. We bought out the large side of the restaurant and seated 75 guests along with entertainment. I highly recommend Casa Lupe Restaurant for your banquet needs! read more

I love this place. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Emphasis on "favorite"! You'll see the owner here every day. I love the staff and the food. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food this is the place to go to. You'll get the same wonderful service and tasty food EVERY time you come here. Just typing up this review is making me crave the food here. If I ever don't know what to eat, I definitely default to this place because I know for certain that I won't be disappointed. I love their chicken fajitas. The only suggestion I would make is to take it off the stove a bit quicker as the veggies tend to crisp up/slightly burn (not to my liking). I always ask them to take it off a bit sooner for me and they always do so. The staff doesn't have any issues with altering orders off the menu. They're so flexible. I have been going to this restaurant for well over 15 years now and you know something the food is just as good then as it is today. I know this is a family business and when you arrive you also will be treated like family. Everything to do with this business is friendly and open. The people are fun and enjoy what they do. I am sure since they are family they do not have much of a choose, but they do enjoy it. We have celebrated may Birthdays, family function and we are looking forward to many more event in this coming year with this group of people. I have tried everything on the menu, but there are a few I would suggest if you are unsure what you would like, again anything you get will be great, but here are some of my personal favorites: 1. Carne Asada 2. Chimichanga (Shredded Beef) 3. California Enchiladas 4. Eggs and Chorizo These are some of the meal you can see me eating while I am here, but of course I have had everything on this menu and enjoy it each and every time I show up. Also the drink are fantastic and the size of them, well be ready to let somebody else drive home that evening. The meat in the enchilada was chicken breast and that was good, but I didn't finish it because the sauce was so overly sweet and cloying. It caramelized on the plate it had so much sugar in it. Bleh! I ordered my standard combination: Taco, cheese enchilada, and it included rice and beans. The rice and beans were good, but they kind of skimped me on the beans. The taco had a nice crispy shell, and the lettuce was fresh, they didn't short me on the taco meat. The enchilada was decent, but the enchilada sauce had a strange after taste. The place is pretty big, and features a full bar. I didn't find the food to be worth the price though, my combination plate was $14. The parking is not that great either, probably only about 20 spots total, and it is a big restaurant. The food is okay, but I doubt I will be back. read more

We love this place and go about once every week. They don't have your standard huge selection of mexican fare, but what they do have is fresh and tasty. Their tres colores enchiladas are super tasty. their chili relleno is amazing because they don't use the standard anaheim chile, instead they use the poblano/pasilla chile. yum! It's a no-frills mexican restaurant...the frills come from the great service and the owners:) The family who owns the restaurant are very on the ball and make the place very comfortable. and they make kick-ass margaritas, any which way you'd like them. I don't like so much sugar so they'll make a tequila, lime juice, cointreau margarita with a splash of sweet and sour. One of my favorites. I usually go there with girlfriends, and we get the same waiter every time. He knows what we order by now, so we get that small-town feeling there. Great margaritas. I always order the tostada, which has kinda gone down hill recently. However, I would recommend this place just because its cute, friendly, they give you chips, and the menu is large. They are NOT OPEN on SUNDAYS. I would say, nice date place, because you get restaurant service, and the price is inexpensive. NO outdoor patio. read more

But first, they start u out w a basket of warm corn chips and a bowl of salsa fresca and a bowl of red chili sauce- how thoughtful !! =) Tip: go easy on the chips ;p They serve their carnitas in classy way : in a separate oval dish...their carnitas are warm, soft tender and kinda sweet. Nicely presented in an oval bowl covered with sauteed sliced onions,bell peppers and finished with a few sprigs of fresh cilantro . Decent spanish rice and refried beans round out the meal. Tip : two light eaters would be stuffed =) Very Nicely plated. Get yourself an icy cold Negra Modelo and watch THE game on one of their flat screen tv's. Customer service: first rate.
