I wish you could give half star reviews because this place does receive 4.5 stars. I came here on a Monday morning hoping there wouldn't be much of a wait (it was rainy too). There was a wait, ha. So the reputation of this place definitely does not hang on my review. The food was honestly super delicious. I got the pancakes, my friend got the omelette and we shared. Everything was amazing. Two things that stood out to me was a) the delicious (super sweet) raspberry jam and the really crispy hash browns that came with the omelette. I can't give five stars to it because it just is....a brunch place. I think Clinton St. Baking Co. has become a bit of a legend in NYC and draws a crowd accordingly. But is the food life changing or somehow revolutionary? Not really. And is it worth a 30 minute (1-2hours on weekends - when most people are free) wait? No, absolutely not. Quick version: Yes, it is worth coming here and yes - the pancakes are that good. FYI, cash only during the day. They now occupy the corner of Clinton/Houston as well as their original space. This definitely has made wait times much more palatable. Popped in early on MLK day and waited about 20 minutes. Phew. Instead of overloading on pancakes, we switched it up. Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter, Wild Maine Blueberry. I do not know what this butter is made out of but there must be some crack in it. There are blueberries in the pancake and a smattering of wild blueberries on top. I prefer to slice sections of the pancake out and then drown them in the maple butter. It's just this mouthful of sweet, buttery, warm goodness. Spanish Scramble. If I could eat here all the time, I might actually get this quite a lot. It's a simple concept and it's definitely been done many times but I just love their version. It's savory, onionish and hits the spot for that desayuno craving. Poor service marred an otherwise fine meal. Our server, who was AWOL for the entire meal, could be observed chatting non-stop in the bus station. We could do almost nothing to get his attention. His attitude was careless and indifferent. This was really a shame because my host selected the Clinton St. Baking Company because of its good reputation and his own past experiences there. But whatever goodwill and fame they have garnered on the day shift was completely and utterly destroyed by the ineptitude of the night shift. On the food side, Latkes Egg Benedict were inventive to this Southerner. The latkes appeared to be deep fried, perhaps a tad hard, but they melted under the creaminess of the Hollandaise sauce flecked with parsley and perfectly poached eggs. A generous portion of house smoked salmon accompanied it. This was a real treat, smooth and silky yet not too salty. Though I live in the Deep South, I had never seen Vidalia Onion Rings offered before. The coating was light and crisp, and the sweet onions were a revelation -- both mild and well seasoned. My host ordered sugar cured bacon, but was served regular instead. He sent it back and quickly received a replacement that was both flabby with uncooked fat yet burned too. Since we could not flag down the waiter to save our lives, we asked the busboy (the only hard worker!) to intercede. A supervisor/ manager came over. He was pleasant and offered to remove the item from the check. But food aside--and what a damning thing to have to say!--the entire experience from start to finish was tortured, frustrating, and laborious because we could never get the attention of our server for even basic refills. No explanation or apology was ever offered. And, based on the buzz and food, that's a real tragedy. We wanted to love it, we wanted to have a great experience, but the server managed to sully the otherwise fine reputation of the Clinton St. Baking Company. LOVE! I discovered this gem via my friends IG. And I started planning and plotting on my next trip to NYC. A tight squeeze, real tight, the tables are only inches apart. When someone from the table next to us had to get up, we had to move a little and lean to the side. So I had started to write this review the first time I came here to try their pancakes over a year ago. I've gone back now more than a couple of times and felt that it was really time to give this a proper review (haha). I came here 2 weeks ago for a team breakfast meeting. We had put our name down at 10am (this was a Wednesday) and we were quoted a wait of about 20 minutes. This isn't too bad considering what the wait COULD be (If you come here, just expect to wait). Also, the whole party must be present or they will not seat you. We ordered 2 orders of the pancakes with warm maple butter; one wild blueberry and one banana walnut to share for the table. I can't tell you which one is better because they're both equally as good to me. If my appetite/stomach was an endless black hole I would eat both orders myself. Unfortunately, I do not have a black hole as a stomach/appetite. I also shared the Clinton St. omelette. Appearance wise, it looks underwhelming but honestly, tastes like any decent omelette you would get at a dinner so that was fine with me. It comes with toast and hash. One not though, if you had bacon to it like we did, the bacon is wrapped inside the egg but as a whole strip, it's not chopped up into bits (my own personal preference). I'm a fan and I see myself making occasional trips back for their pancakes. The maple butter is seriously SO good! I mean would I wait for 3 hours to dine here? Had several items off the menu...was okay but not what I was expecting from the reviews I had read.

The food was spectacular! The wild maine blueberry pancakes were absolutely my favorite dish out of everything; a MUST try if you come here!! I got the classic eggs benedict with the smoked salmon. I enjoyed it but it was a little too creamy tasting for what I was actually going for that afternoon. I did scarf down those pancakes so that probably had to do with me not finishing my eggs benedict. My friends enjoyed their meal as well. The 4 of us had cappuccinos which were pretty strong; we had to add a couple packets of sugar to even out the taste! I give this place a 4/5 stars because even though the food was delicious, we had to wait approximately 2 HOURS to finally be seated at our table. We made a reservation at 12p on a Friday and were told it would be an hour wait. That whole time my friends and I sat in my car waiting. At 1:30p after not receiving a confirmation text, we got tired of waiting around and went back in the restaurant to see if our table was ready yet. The receptionist said there was another 15 minute wait so we sat by the waiting area. After 20 minutes, I went up to her to see if the table was ready and she said to give her another 10 minutes. It was then that I got extremely annoyed (especially since I was starving) and told her we already have 2 hours waiting for a reservation that was supposed to be an hour wait. I gave her a moment to discuss with her co-workers and then after a couple of minutes, we were finally seated at our table! For such a busy and small restaurant, I personally don't think reservations work out for them. They should have a first come first serve basis. Not everyone makes it to their reservations and sometimes people forget to cancel. Came here for the February special pancakes month menu! I love berries so chose the triple berries day (2/9-2/11). Must say the pancakes themselves exceeded my expectations. I saw on Eater this is one of the best pancakes in the city and was skeptical how different it can be from most pancakes. Oh boy these were some solid quality pancakes! There were 3 pancakes stacked and each was thick, embedded with blueberries and layered with lemon curd. The texture of the pancake was perfectly crispy on the outside (but not too hard or dry), steamy and moist inside with a beautiful steam/smoke upon cutting, even until I ate more than half! The pancake itself was so good I could just eat it without anything. I also ordered a side of the wild blueberry compote to satisfy my curiosity of the signature flavour since the Triple Berries had fresh blueberries. The wild blueberry compote was citrusy, not too sweet and went well with the pancakes. Overall this place deserves to be called having one of the best pancakes in the city!! read more

TLDR; Breakdown of review: 4 stars for food / wait time, but 1 star removed for the experience. One of my friends really wanted to get brunch in NY, so we decided to try this spot out, given how many positive reviews it's received. We only had to wait 30 min. for our table, which was good. We were seated next door, in the overflow room (for a lack of better words to describe it). We're leaving NY, so we had to bring our carry-ons with us. Mine is a carry-on luggage. We had the luggage on the outside of the table. The waitress said it'll get kicked around, so she takes my luggage and places it by the door. That really upset me. I grew up and still reside in a huge city. In my personal experience, regardless of what neighborhood you're in, any personal belongings are susceptible to theft. And I'm fairly sure that waitress wasn't going to monitor my luggage. And if someone stole something from my luggage/took my luggage, I doubt this place would've taken responsibility/reimbursed me. I just can't believe how stupid that action was. I would've handled in a few different ways: (1) ask us to try to flip the luggage horizontally and store it under the table to see if it fits, or (2) place the luggage behind the register. Most importantly, I would've at least asked the customer for consent to move their personal belongings. I got the chicken and waffles. Maybe it's because it's chicken breast, but it was pretty dry. Bone-in dark meat would've been better. It was nicely breaded, though. Loved the waffle and the maple butter syrup. Normally, I think of chicken and waffles as the waffle supplements the chicken. We ordered, pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash-browns, waffles, breakfast sandwich. We sampled each dish and the syrup was good. Honestly, I will not be returning there was nothing that tastes that was amazing. I've heard so much about this place over the years but knew it was notorious for their long wait times. Regardless, when my friends recommended it as the spot to catch up at I said, "heck, why not". Large windows allow for a lot of natural light to flow in so it was bright the entire time we were there. After being seated our server gave us our menu's and gave us ample time to look over them. When it came time to order I decided to go with one of the apparently popular dishes on the menu, the fried chicken & waffles ($17). It was definitely a hefty dish. Two pieces of fried boneless chicken breast on top of a very thick Belgian waffle. All of it was amazing but the honey-tabasco sauce was legit the icing on the cake. I'd highly recommend this dish if you're looking for something filling, savory, and sweet. The service here was really good too! After we placed our orders our server brought us out our drinks and after only waiting a few minutes our dishes came out to us really well prepared. The waiter informed us after the fact that though that this was a CASH ONLY spot. If he would've done so in the beginning it would've been more convenient. Overall a great brunch spot in LES. Regular eggs are $6, and they charged us $3 extra for egg whites. Buyer beware!! -the pancakes are decent at best. They are way too dense. Frankly, IHOP has fluffier pancakes for a cheaper price. The warm butter sauce they serve with them is pretty good, though. -the most disappointing item was the chicken and waffles. The waffles come with fried chicken breast. The homemade hot sauce that was served with it was pretty good, but this meal was by far the worst. We didn't even eat it. I was sent for pickup duty and am glad I flew solo during my visit - I was immediately seated at a bar/kitchen seat, while the couples around me were faced with 1.5 hr waits. + Pancakes w/ blueberrries - the warm maple butter, which accompanies all the pancakes, was probably the best part.
