I went to Culpepper Cattle Company last night with a friend before a comedy show at Dallas Comedy House, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the prices or the reputation. We were seated inside at a small two-top that was actually a metal patio table covered with a tablecloth. It wobbled constantly and felt out of place for a steakhouse charging premium prices. After a few minutes, we asked to move to a booth, which was better, but I'm still puzzled why that original setup was even being used indoors. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. We had to remind him to bring cocktail napkins, and our drinks sat empty for about 20 minutes before he returned with our food. I ended up asking for iced tea because I was pretty thirsty by that point. I ordered the 6 oz filet medium, but it came out medium well and overcooked. For $38, I expect the steak to be cooked correctly. The Caesar salad was excellent, and the house margarita was tasty, but I had asked for no salt and it arrived with salt. Could I have asked for corrections? Sure. But sometimes you can tell when it's not going to change the overall experience, and this was one of those nights. Maybe it was just an off evening, but for the prices they charge, I expected much better. Based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it or return. read more

Had a really great time at this place. Saw that it had some great reviews. I liked the ambiance. It's very country western. They show westerns on the TV and play good country music. Started out with the calamari which the calamari was pretty normal, but the sauce was amazing that you dip it in. I highly recommend that. I had bean and cheese nachos which I really don't recommend but if you do get them, make sure to ask for them to be extra crispy. My husband had the fajitas and I tried the beef and oh my gosh that beef fajita meat was so good. So if you go and you want a good fajita get these. The flour tortillas are also made fresh in house. As for the dessert, I think that it sat too long after being heated up because the marshmallows you could tell we're supposed to be melted, but they were cold because it had sat too long before someone brought it to us, but it would be amazing if it was brought to us on time. Service was amazing. If we needed something, there were multiple people willing to get it for us and I'm sure they would have brought us a new dessert but we needed to get home. I came here for my birthday. It was a Monday night. Came right in and was seated not many inside the restaurant. I forgot what I ordered but it was a mixture of tac, enchiladas and flautas. The first time it was extra rare, the second time it was literally black, charred and burnt. We had an amazing experience at Culpepper Cattle! Excellent drinks and wine, the friendliest service provided by Caroline and Davis and delicious food. We sampled the fried green tomatoes and guacamole (which was freshly handmade and served chunky style). We had the grilled shrimp fajita tacos, and topped it off with the most amazing and delicious warm brownie!! After dinner, we got to tour the building, which was originally a manufacturing site for ginning machines. 100% recommend. read more

We had such a wonderful experience at Culpepper Cattle that I felt compelled to share. I first arranged a visit for 25 members of our staff, and every single person had something lovely to say -- from the quality of the food to the outstanding service. I then returned with my family, and it was just as exceptional. Our server, Kayla, during the staff visit, was fantastic, and Antonio, who looked after us on our family visit, was attentive, humble, and incredibly accommodating -- especially with my two toddlers, which made all the difference. A special mention as well to Zach, the manager, and Melissa, the assistant manager, who were both so welcoming, helpful, and genuinely attentive throughout. We tried a bit of everything -- the kids' menu, fajitas, and the steak -- and every dish was simply superb. If you're looking for a fine Tex-Mex restaurant with excellent food and truly warm service and a great ambiance, I couldn't recommend Culpepper more highly. Such a cool place, it's located in the old Continental Gin building, near Baylor Scott and White, north portion of Deep Ellum. I liked that they had a good size parking lot (no valet or anything). The restaurant itself is a really nice blend of romantic and cocktail vibes. The food was really good, I enjoyed that it was a blend of steakhouse and Tex-Mex. So you could get anything from steaks and burgers to enchiladas and fajitas. As well as lighter items like salad. Everyone should be able to find something they enjoy ! Our waiter was Leo and he was very cool and knowledgeable guide. They bring out fresh tortillas and butter to snack on as welll. I ordered the Purple Passion cocktail which to me tasted like a fancy margarita with champagne on top. I also ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were soooo good! Came here with a friend for dinner and I had a good experience. There's parking on site along with valet. The customer service was amazing and the waitresses were very attentive! For drinks, I ordered the purple passion and cowboy cosmo and they were both lovely made. We had the chips + guac for the table and it could've handled a little more salt and lime. Food tasted great but plating and amount of chicken and steak could've been better. The combination plate is about $30 so you'd think it would be worth it.
