It's been a looooooong time since I last went to Cupie's. I am not certain if this place still has the same pull as it did in the past, but it used to be the hot spot for plate lunch and after school snacks. The prices here are reasonable, since you still get mounds of food in a single order. However, I was a little surprised that a lot of the food looked not-so-fresh when I stopped by in the evening. My cousins and I were the only ones around, which was unusual. I remember waiting in line at a crowded Cupie's with packed outdoor tables. I will say that the sweet sour pork I ordered was FANTASTIC, probably because it was one of the more fresh items out that day. And, the mac salad was ok - not amazing, not great. As for service, the guy running the counter did not seem very interested in helping us out, even though we were the only customers in sight. I'm not sure if he was nervous or just had a break-up or what, but he was a little distracted. Though, he was very honest when it came to pointing out the more recently cooked items, and for that, I am ever grateful. Perhaps it was just an off-day for them. I am willing to give Cupie's another shot, out of loyalty to this Maui staple. So, I really hope the next visit is more promising. read more

Cupie's has been around, but with different owners. We went there about a year or two ago. What they were serving back then doesn't compare to what they are serving now. Before the food was laid out and you can pick what you want or order behind counter. Now, they have local faves like loco moco, and chopped steak. My fiancé got the breaded teriyaki- he was raving about how good it was back in the days before they changed owners. He said it's extremely good and that he would go back again. It was my first trying it and I actually really like it. I'm not a fan of sweet meat, but it is really good! For me, I ordered the battered fish. I asked the cashier before ordering of how it was. First thing she says is she's allergic to seafood, but she said it was one of the most popular item on the menu. The fish is called Ono and it's really fresh!! The batter is light and still crispy. When you cut into it, the fish is nice and flaky. It's soo good with tartar sauce! I definitely would recommend this place!! You can take home or sit outside. Customer service needs to be improved. Women behind the counter were very rude. So sad because it's a long time local establishment.

New owners and wow do they care about service. First place we stopped after the plane, wanted some local food. Had fish and chips, super crispy and fresh, some of the best I've tasted. Breaded teriyaki beef, wow what a great flavor. Teriyaki beef, nice sear and flavor. Beef has good smoke flavor because they cook it out back on a bbq. Owner chatted with us a while. Step up to the window, and you'll be greeted by the happy smiling crew who'll quickly take your order and payment, and ​give you a pager to call you when your order is ready. You can wait undercover​ at one of the picnic tables or cool off under the misters out front. No, I didn't grow up eating at Cupies but the vibe is similar to my home town drive-in​. Cupie's Teri Beef sandwich reminds me of the ones I used to get at the old Mitsui store on Kauai. Thinly sliced beef simmered in a savory and sweet Teriyaki sauce served on a bun with lettuce and mayo. It's better than the one I usually get at "da" other local family​ restaurant​ in Kahului at half the price. Their French fries and special sauce are as good as they come. Until recently, we were regular customers to the renewed Cupies. However when my husband called in for the special, we were disappointed for he first time. We were told at the window that they just ran out of the special, we then said we called it in about 15 mins ago. Then a worker in the back shouted out "oh that's my plate now" in Filipino but he didn't know that my husband speaks Filipino. How can they take away an order from a customer! Nice, simple, and easy is what I would say about Cupies. This was the first place I had gone to where the bill didn't kill the bank and the food fit it. The breaded teriyaki was good, the rice and chili was super good and the cheese burger was good. If it's an easy yet GOOD place to eat this is it. The only thing I wish they had more of is the soft serve ice cream choices. Otherwise, not a bad choice for simple food and relaxed atmosphere. read more

Cupie's is the only place in Maui to find local food for under $10 I've been able to find. Highly recommend the Lowell's special shake and coming here to pass around a lot of dishes. Cheap, good food, good people involved. If you see a lot of pick up trucks in Maui, you know the food has the local stamp of approval and it's easy to see why! Favorites are the milkshakes, French fries, and the Patty Melt. There is an assortment of flavors for the milkshakes. My favs that I've had are the ube, fruity pebbles, honeydew, watermelon, and peanut butter. Crispy French fries that comes with mustard ketchup are delicious. I absolutely LOVED the Ube shake, however I would say the size could be a bit bigger for what you're paying for. I tried the beyond burger meatless option and I enjoyed it, however I think their burger buns are not of good quality. It was a bit hard and could've been softer/fresher. As much as I do like cupies food, the prices for majority of the menu does not match the quality they serve as well as the quantity of food the give. I got a beef teriyaki plate and mini chow fun. The teriyaki and so sweet they tried to mask the taste of the actual meat which by the way taste old and funky (in a bad way). On the other hand whenever I get the chow fun it's so good but it never lasts the next day, by the time I save they rest of my leftover chow fun it's already developed a rotting smell. there prices are ridiculous and they ether need to lower it or produce better quality food. read more

Was excited to try it hearing they brought back the Cupie's that one was. Too bad I'm probably never going back. The breaded teri burger was good if you like mayonaise more than anything. Hamburger patties were thin and the chopped steak tasted like teriyaki meat. The food wasn't even the bad part, it was the service. I called my order in knowing they get busy. They call me back saying they ran out of the special. No problem i order something else. I send my daughter to pick it up. I then get a call saying they forgot to give us the whole order. Mind you my daughter is back in my driveway already and no we don't live in Kahului. She goes back and no sorry or anything but a he he he you may have to heat up the soup. read more

NO STARS went there tonight with 3/24 @ 6:50pm only 1 other car as we pulled up & young man taking orders skips the LOCALS and tends to prioritize MAINLAND VISITORS before US who pulled up AFTER US with no apologies or anything of that sort!!!! Young kids working with no guidance or customer service experience!!! I WILL NEVER BE A CUSTOMER HERE AGAIN, very discriminating and disappointed!!!! Meant to leave this review a couple months back .We had the special it was chicken Katsu curry! It was so delicious! Honestly I hope and pray they put this on their regular menu one day! It was so flavorful! The portion was huge ! Mom and I shared it and we had some leftover for the next day ! Being that we just live down the road we often check to see what the specials are on our way home from doing errands! So we stopped again a couple of weeks ago & I'm glad I stopped because sometimes there's extra specials that aren't on the voicemail ( hint hint ) but are on their specials board! So they had fresh mahimahi sandwiches that came with a full order of their delicious fries for like $16.99!! Yes we each got our own but honestly we both felt like we could have could have gotten one sandwich and an extra order of fries!! They did not skimp of the fish !! Passes them for years, driving by, never really taking the time to stop in. Would always end up going to an fast food chain joint. Pandemic hit, and as in was driving around the ad came on the radio. It got my attention, here was a business that stepped up, changed what they were doing, how they were doing it, and took a look to the past to fix it. Fast forward a week or two, was driving by again, and decided to pop in. I have gone a few times now and I plan to keep going. They were slammed today, 5/15/2020 and they still kept it helpful and friendly. I would recomend placing a phone order (or online if they start doing that). Parking lot is a bit cramped when they have a rush, but still enough room to do what you need to. Once things open up all the way, down the road, I hope they continue with this layout if not just the remote orders. Phone order will get you better food, faster than a fast food joint. I ordered a regular dry mein last night. Thought it was going to be just a smaller portion. It was terrible--- literally just an overcooked saimin sprinkled with some green onion!! No taste, not even a piece of some kind of meat. My husband had the roast pork & it was awful as well....lots of fatty pork disguised by lots of gravy.
