I'm not sure if there are new owners but I was super stoked on my meal yesterday!! First of all, the prices are so reasonable! We just wanted a simple cheeseburger that wasn't fast food! So we ordered cheeseburgers and fries and chow fun! The service was great, food came out fast and it was delicious! Burgers were simple and good and the chow fun was bomb! We also had some soft serve on a cone too and it was so good and refreshing. There's tiny icicles in the soft serve! It's well lit Food is reasonably priced Large variety of cuisines including Filipino food Lots of tables for seating Staff is pleasant The "beef stew" is calderetta. Just FYI to all my Filipinos and it's not bad. The bad: Portions were meh. My friend got the pork lechon plate and he was jipped. About 8 pieces whereas all of the other dishes are LOADED. DO NOT get slushy. It's so sweet, way too sweet for my taste or anyone else's. I'd say if you're in the area give it a try. We decided to try out the shakes and breaded teriyaki as recommended by a noted YouTube vlogger visiting Maui. The ube and lilikoi shakes were perfect and not too sweet. I enjoyed the breaded teriyaki sandwich and fries. The fries were awesome! My wife had the breaded fish plate lunch. She said it was very good. I was so full that I couldn't squeeze in a sample. Got dinner from here so we could show the little one their festive Christmas decorations. They really do a good job during the holidays. Lots of blow up Christmas characters and lights, the baby loved looking at it! Only one "problem" the staff are so efficient, taking our order as soon as we arrived and the food was prepared so quickly we barely had time to look at all the decorations The food is always consistent here, breaded teriyaki being our favorite with a side of crinkle fries with mustard/mayo/ketchup dipping sauce. The service here is amazing! Super attentive and so fast. It's been a drive up since COVID and I honestly love that cause as a mom of three I hate having to lug all of my kids out of the car to grab food but also hate going to fast food places and I also love being able to sit in my car with the AC on. I feel super sad for the workers and wish they could get some shade though cause the sun really beats down in the area they're in. Food is okay, for what you pay for. Service is horrible! Right now due to covid it's drive thru style. But even prior to that wait was long and food took a while to get finished. The noodles are a little to oily, and the teriyaki was to dry. Parking is not to bad. Food was to over cooked for me. We attempted for lunch today but left empty handed, upset, and irritated. We arrived before 3 cars and they ended up taking those 3 cars orders and never acknowledged us. The kicker was while waiting for over 10 minutes to place our order (mind you the parking lot was only half full) and a car parked RIGHT in front of us way after, but the waitress took their order without taking our order first. It's not hard to track on which cars came first, cause only get like 12 parking stalls and 3 or 4 people taking orders. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO ALOHA!!! read more

We ordered the Teri Burgers along with Chow Fun. It was okay, definitely not the food that we grew up with.

This is my second visit here since they reopened. First visit wasn't very impressed with the food so decided to give it another shot! My family were out and about pretty late and ended up here!!! The place was packed and parking was limited. Parked on the side of the highway proceeded to the drive inn. Everyone pretty much were already eating and placed their order so there was no wait in line. The cashier was very friendly and helpful with milkshake flavors! I am very impressed by the variety of milkshake flavors they offer from your basic chocolate, vanilla, & strawberry, they have chocolate peanutbutter, ube, too much more to mention. We ordered the fried fish plate, fish and chips, cheeseburger deluxe, loco moco, a chocolate shake, and you already know I just had to try the beautiful purple ube shake! Hahaha! After we ordered we were given a beeper that will notify you that your food is ready. The dining area is kept fairly clean and they have tables to accommodate couples and families. Got our food in about 10 minutes. The food expeditor wasn't pleasant, seemed like she hated her job.... I'll just leave it at that!!! Let's talk food!!! The fish I believe is frozen not fresh, more like fish sticks. The husband was expecting fresh fish, but, was bummed that it wasn't. I do recommend you ask them about the fish before ordering just to be sure you know. I did get a chance to get a bite from my son's loco moco. Not the best and definitely not the worst either. Everything was good even quite impressed with the mac salad, except for the hamburger patties. There was no chewy texture like hamburger should have, just plain mush! Same for the cheeseburger! I did enjoy the crinkle cut fries they serve and that ube shake is oh so yummy!!! I do recommend you try it. Cupies really be that place. I don't know how to describe it but nothing feels better than chilling with your friends in the Cupies parking lot at 11:30pm snacking on some fries and a ube shake. So much in memories were made here. But beware! Never eat cupies 3 days in a row, because you will get sick of it. Never again.... Tips: always call in your order to skip the line. It saddens me to do this but this is the 2nd very bad experience at Cupies in the past month or so. Everyone wants it suppuration local businesses but when service is terrible it's hard. We waited and watched the waiter was take the orders of 3 people that came after us. She looked directly at me and turned around. Since movie to Maui, I've been here a couple times. When I first got here apparently they just recently changed ownership. The lines weren't nearly as long as the were today and all of my friends would tell me "you like that place??!!" Fast forward to the present day, and all of my friends who ridiculed me now say "OH YEA this is much better!" Apparently the previous owners were not doing a great job after taking over the place from the owners before that, but whoever owns it now is doing MUCH BETTER is the feed back I get. I've only been eating here since the new owners took over and I have no complaints! The place is way busier now then when I first moved here, and it's probably because everyone is figuring that out slowly! With a great wide menu full of plates, sides, specials, shakes, ice creams and much more you are bound to find something great here! The shake menu on it's own should own them some acknowledgement with flavors like ube, fruity pebbles and so much more! French Fries ALWAYS come with some yellow sauce here and if you never tried it, the breaded teriyaki is pretty bomb. Check the specials board, sometimes they get some good pickings on there too. My mom and I are visiting from Oahu and thought we'd try out Cupies. We placed a phone order (only have phone ordering or in-car ordering) which was fine. Said the order would be done in 10 minutes so we arrived 10 minutes later. Cars who placed a phone order park in a designated section in the parking lot and the workers will eventually come up to your car, ask for your name, request payment for your order, and fetch your order from the restaurant. However, after the worker had taken our money, she did not return. We were waiting in our car in the scorching sun, with our order not in sight. The other cars behind us and those who placed an order in their car at the restaurant were leaving even though they placed their orders after ours. We thought maybe it was because they were busy that our order was taking so long although we only ordered three deluxe hamburgers, a side of fries, and a chili rice bowl. However, 5 minutes eventually turned into 40 minutes and FINALLY someone checked in on us in our car. After finally receiving our food after 45 minutes, the worker who delivered it showed no signs of apology; she just blatantly handed it to us and walked away. We would've been okay after this disastrous experience if she had said sorry for the inconvenience but unfortunately, that did not happen... Plus, we even tipped them our change! The food itself was not bad (except our fries were COMPLETELY soggy since it was probably left out for 45 minutes)... I really came to try out their chocolate-dipped ice cream cone since I am a fan of the McDonald's chocolate-dipped cones which are only available for a limited time. So I figured I would try cupies since it's available all the time. Well I got to say it did not meet my expectations. Although the dipped cone looked like a piece of art and the chocolate was a thin crisp dark chocolate with a coconut flavor, I believe they use coconut oil, it was the soft serve ice cream that I did not like. McDonald's soft serve is definitely creamier like real ice cream whereas cute puppies has an icy, less milky flavor to it. I also wanted to try their Deluxe Hamburger because I was told that it tasted like and In and Out Burger but not to me. I grew up a couple blocks from Cupies, so when I heard they were bringing the old fare back I was excited. There has been a lot of hype. I decided to wait to go so they could work out the grand opening bugs. The service was friendly and fast. My husband ordered the breaded teriyaki and I had the loco moco. The teriyaki was ok, but not like the old days. The taste was good but not strong enough. Kinda like it wasn't soaked long enough, or that(I'm a shoyu snob)they didn't use Kikkoman shoyu. There was also more breading than beef, it was sliced pretty thin. I don't think that would've mattered if the teriyaki was more flavorful. I'd also heard it could depend on who's cooking on the day you go. The loco moco was flavorful and came with 2 hamburger patties. The gravy was good and the Mac salad was pretty tasty too. But the patties were pretty thin, it seems to be a theme here. For the cost I'm not sure it evens out. Will I go back again? Probably, there aren't a whole lot of places that have plate lunches all day and late in the evening. This is all about my preference in food. Cupie's! Remember the old Cupie's? I mean when it was owned by the previous owner? Not that these Owners are new and not that this Cupie's is new too! Just reminiscing! The former Cupie's, before it was purchased by Bernard of Bento's and Banquets fame, and his wife, reminded me of an old stye Honolulu drive-in, like Chunky's (how many of us remember that one?!) or St. Louis Drive In. Since Cupie's was sold several (or many) years back, it doesn't have the same feel that it used to. The food here is not that bad, but I notice I have to add seasoning to everything, all the time, just to make the taste fit my buds. I guess I can see why, since some people may not want the food to be as salty as I may prefer. They do have a great selection and the portion to price ratio is pretty good. I've had the Roast Pork, Lau Lau, chicken and Teri beef plates over the course of time. They also have pretty good Breaded Teriyaki (floured and fried beef teriyaki) which is portioned pretty good also. Plates usually come with rice and Mac salad or chow fun and range in price from about $8.00 to $13.00, at least from my last visit. The good thing is the foods are normally always prepared and served buffet style from warmers, so if you're in a hurry, very little wait time. There are tables in the open air dining area, but the dining area is kind of...depressing? At least for me, I'd rather take the food out and eat somewhere else, even in my car! Located off of West Kamehameha Avenue in Kahului, they are directly across from The Latter Day Saints Church and next door to the Kahului Public Library. Awww man, I was born and raised in Maui, so I absolutely have fond memories of Cupies. This was the "spot". Plate lunches in the cardboard take out boxes and mini bentos were awesome! I always had the #2 - chow fun, breaded teri beef, hot dog, and rice. We frequented here often as my mom would either pick food up for us for an after school snack or we would head there and eat up. And, lets not forget their shrimp omelette! Ohh wow, no one comes close to what I remember the taste was like! Every Friday I had to call before 4pm to order a laulau plate - the best! The place was always packed!! Fond memories indeed. As they sold the place in the early 2000's, it has NEVER been the same. We ordered 2 shrimp omelettes that were filled with so much round onions and green onions that it was all you could taste--onions, onions, onions, onions, onions!!!! The rice was dry and hard. Mac salad was bland. UPDATE: Cupies is back with new owners and great little burgers. Local folks come for the breaded teriyaki plate but I'm a cheeseburger, french fries and a frosty ice cream cone while I wait. They used to be a little bit slow when they first got started because most of their help was as old as their customers, but now they're really fast with my cheeseburger deluxe and fries. I don't know how they do it but the burger is charbroiled, and I know they don't have any barbecue back there. French fries come with a tub of mayo/mustard/catchup to dip in. Very old-school. This is not your $13-20 gourmet burger. $3.05 for the cheeseburger deluxe. Worth every penny. read more

I remember Cupies growing up, and was bummed when the next owner changed up the menu now with the new 2018 owner I am happy to say they are doing an awesome job with the food they serve, which reminds me of the old days. . We ordered take-out tonight the team were pleasant at pick up, I had noticed that one of the plates opened in the bag. I was willing to pay for another plate, but they insisted on redoing the plate along with the plate it spilt onto, once our food was done they also gave us a complimentary side dish, which was totally unexpected. Rachel took really good care of us, my family and I appreciated the excellent customer service she had. Although the team had to redo our order, they all were delightful, collaborated well without a fuss.
