What a gem near Hayes Valley! My husband loved it so much that he wanted to order another banh mi. I ordered the teriyaki tofu bowl which was filled with lots of vegetables and super flavorful! And for around $10-11, it was not bad especially since we were around some expensive places. Dingles was around the corner and Suppenkuche was a few blocks away. My husband and I split the other 2 banh mis he ordered: Le Sardine and a beef banh mi (it was one of their specials, but I'm blanking on the exact name). I preferred the le sardine more but maybe because it had more of a difference in texture from the bread. I like that the bread isn't rock hard. I've had some scratch the roof of my mouth before. I know some people like the crunch but I need something softer and this place delivered. I def wanna try more of their items so I'll be back! read more

Roasted pork (4/5): This came with mayo, soy sauce, cucumber, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, and jalapeno. The roasted pork was shredded/pulled. The baguette itself was decent. The flavors of everything together was good. It came with pate too. Shrimp spring roll (3.5/5): This shrimp roll had rice paper, rice noodle, red leaf lettuce, red cabbage, and mint. The shrimp portion was small. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The peanut sauce was good. The food came out pretty quickly and service was good. It's packed full of kale and seasoned with cilantro, fried shallots, black pepper and plenty of lime juice that offers a delicous amount of acidity and freshness. They do have a parklet outside w more tables though. We ordered the following: - pork banh mi: this was SO GOOD. Bread was crispy and fluffy, and the inside was packed with layers of pork. The fattiness of the pork added lots of flavor and pairs well with the carrots and leaves. Also came warm - pop combo: had a variety of different cold cut meats so it was a nice contrast to the pork banh mi. The bread and vegetables were good but it was cold and I personally preferred the pork banh mi more - soup: just ordered this for something warm but this was surprisingly underrated and very refreshing. The kale was really good and paired well with the fried shallots and cilantro. Lowkey I'd go back just for this One of the more affordable places I've been to -- sandwiches were about $12 and had huge portion sizes. When I first ordered, I asked about a bathroom - not only do they not have a bathroom, but bro couldn't even suggest anywhere I could try. Not cool. I had to tell him nevermind in case I had to buy food from another restaurant in order to use their facilities. Ultimately I found a place nearby and came back to DragonEats to order (again). I enjoyed my sandwich on their cute exclusive patio bar seating across the sidewalk from the restaurant. The other main problem was insufficient mayo, so the sandwich was too dry. Meat was good. Carrots and radishes and cucumbers were good too. Could've done with more herbs, and of course switching out the jalapeño peppers for more authentic birdseye chilli peppers. Oddly enough there seems to be more vegetables than noodles. The fish sauce is offered on the side. The banh mi are stuffed with vegetables and your protein of choice. They came warm and are packed with flavor. The bread is not too thick and is well balanced with the amount of filling inside the bread. Service is pretty quick and the quality of the food has been pretty consistent over my many visits. There are a few spots to sit and enjoy your meal inside and outside the restaurant. I had the POP Banh mi which has third different types of cold cut meats and included plenty of pickled carrots, radish as well as cilantro and cucumbers. My partner had the 5 spice chicken Banh Mi and was also very impressed by the portion size and taste. It was warm and just what we needed on a rainy day.
