Decided to stop by DragonEats for a quick bite & instantly you can tell it's a well loved spot. Every seat was full but luckily I walked in & ordered immediately. The spot isn't too small but not big either, they've made great do with the space to provide bar style seating. I was able to grab a spot and the cashier came to give me my food which was very kind! I ordered the Garlic butter chicken banh mi. The veggies are so fresh, the cucumber and carrots are pickled perfectly and if you love cilantro, you will enjoy this banh me. I didn't expect to finish it but I did from how tasty it was. I would definitely come back here and try just the classic chicken banh mi, or even their other items. Definitely worth the stop. The chicken served on the bowl was a bit mealy and dry and did not have a nice charred crispy surface. The chicken breast spring rolls were OK. The avocado added some creaminess and the peanut sauce was not too sweet. The breast seemed to be somewhat food processed and a bit of a paste so it did not add much. The tofu on the other hand was flavorful, juicy, delicious. The other elements of the sandwich were good too. Delicious bread, crisp pickles, just enough jalapeno spice. The best banh mi I've had in a while. Vegetarian sandwiches are tricky to get right. They certainly did. The place is super casual and no frills. Order at a counter and food is brought to you. I first tried Dragon Eats on a food tour with co-workers several years ago and quickly realized this was a spot I wanted to come back to. The garlic butter bhan is ridiculously good. I love stopping by here. It's fast to order and pick up. The staff is always super friendly. This last trip continues to deliver excellent food and service. The prices are reasonable, making it a great value for the quality. Parking is tricky, but it is worth hustling to find a parking spot. read more

The food has always been fast especially for the rolls, I believe they pre-make their rolls, but since the day was more warm than usual especially inside the restaurant, I can only suspect they did not properly store their food. I will not be returning to this establishment. The reason I know it's the shrimp rolls is because I don't eat breakfast, I ordered the shrimp rolls for lunch and had Costco pizza for dinner. I think it's because they all close at 6PM sharp, and my cravings for Vietnamese food can come at any hour of the day but mostly in the evenings. I've been to the one on Gough a couple of times just before closing, and sure enough, that was the circumstance for my very first visit here on Haight. In fact, they were folding up the sandwich board just as I entered the premises. They serve a tightly coordinated menu - no pho, three bowls, three salads, three fresh rolls, and probably most popular were the eight banh mis because who doesn't like a sandwich on the run? Trying to avoid a carb overload, I kept it healthy by ordering the $9 Five-Spice Chicken Fresh Bowl. What made it 'fresh', I believe, was that they replaced the rice noodles with iceberg lettuce. Don't let their name fool you like it did me at first lol. Just because it has an American sounding name doesn't mean they don't serve authentic Vietnamese banh Mi! I ordered online and picked up and was greeted by three vietnamese ladies assembling the food and handling check out. They were so nice! The good: - uh their banh mis were pretty good, all the fillings were authentic and they load up for you!!! Loook at my pics!! Usually by the time we're in this neighborhood, this spot is closed. So we were very keen to try it the one time we arrived while it was open. I tried the duck sandwich and instantly loved it! The duck was so tender and juicy. It tasted just like the duck I'd get from Chinese bbq duck spots. Friendly staff with thick, fresh sandwiches! I was able to place an order over the phone, which was available for pickup within 5 minutes; super short wait time. The bread is delicious! Thick, with a golden crust on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The ratio of protein : veggies : bread was very well balanced! The veggies also tasted very fresh.
