    Tofu banh mi

Upon comparing this popular banh mi restaurant with other known authentic options in SF, DragonEats falls below standard. Although the staff are Asian, what they serve is California fusion cuisine. Their banh mi sandwiches mimic standard subway sandwiches with under-seasoned ingredients customized for a western palate. Interior dining space is limited so best to grab and go if you do happen to hit up this place, but there are definitely better options to explore so don't recommend this place.

Decided to stop by DragonEats for a quick bite & instantly you can tell it's a well loved spot. Every seat was full but luckily I walked in & ordered immediately. The spot isn't too small but not big either, they've made great do with the space to provide bar style seating. I was able to grab a spot and the cashier came to give me my food which was very kind! I ordered the Garlic butter chicken banh mi. The veggies are so fresh, the cucumber and carrots are pickled perfectly and if you love cilantro, you will enjoy this banh me. I didn't expect to finish it but I did from how tasty it was. I would definitely come back here and try just the classic chicken banh mi, or even their other items. Definitely worth the stop. Plus the prices are great! Less than $20 for a sandwich is hard to find now

I tried the garlic butter chicken BM and was sadly disappointed. Bread was a bit dry, chicken was a bit dry, and filling didn't feel evenly dispersed. Taking a bite was either all veggies or all meat it seemed. You could taste the butter with the chicken but the garlic was lacking. Service was pretty quick and there's a bit of seating inside.

This is the five spice chicken ban mi. And it bangs. Great taste and great service at a great price!

Teriyaki Tofu Bowl. Piece of mint with plethora of bugs hidden underneath

Used to love this place. Today, I went back to the restaurant after a few months and I ordered the tofu noodle bowl. The bowl had a piece of mint in it with a bunch of bugs underneath the leaf. I lost my appetite immediately. Needless to say, I won't be retuning. It's clear they can't be bothered to wash/rinse their produce. It makes me question their overall food handling and hygiene practices.

Banh mi was pretty mid. Have had a lot better. Main thing was the bread was a bit stale. Pate was the best part. Good if you are in the area and you want something quick and affordable to eat but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

Incredible Vietnamese food, simple decor, counter service. Minimalist gourmet. One of the better meals on my first trip to SF, will return.

It took all of 3 minutes for my food to be ready after I ordered it, and unfortunately it tasted that way too.

"IT'S QUE VIET!"…read more No Superman here, but let me be your hero for a second because I'm about to put you on to, hands down, **the best Vietnamese food I've ever had**. I actually discovered Que Viet through DoorDash and had everything delivered. I ordered the Deep-Fried Imperial Rolls (Cha Gio), Grilled Chicken & Chicken Imperial Roll Garlic Noodles (Mi Top Ga Nuong Cha Gio Ga), Grilled Pork Sausage Rolls (Nem Cuon), Vietnamese Shrimp Mini Crepes (Banh Xeo Tom), and the Grilled Pork Sausage & Sliced Pork Woven Vermicelli (Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong). Yes... I spent almost **$100 for two people**. Looking back at the receipt, I had to ask myself, *"Is this place expensive, or am I just fat?"* Honestly... probably a little of both. Either way, it was one of the best $100 I've ever spent. If it's your first time ordering from Que Viet, do yourself a favor and get the **garlic noodles**. I know garlic noodles are everywhere these days, but these completely changed my expectations. They were perfectly cooked with an incredible bounce, packed with rich garlicky flavor, and the portion size was generous enough for leftovers (if you have the self-control). I also tried the **Banh Hoi Nem & Thit Nuong** for the first time, and it did not disappoint. One heads-up, though: it's generously topped with crushed peanuts. My friend has a peanut allergy, so thankfully we caught it before digging in. If you have any nut allergies, be sure to mention it when ordering. Every single dish arrived fresh, flavorful, and tasted like it had just come out of the kitchen despite being delivered. That's not something you can say about many places. If you ever find yourself in the city, you **need** to make a stop at Que Viet. This place has been living rent-free in my head ever since, and I already know I'll be back the next chance I get.

Some dishes were better prepared than others, but overall, the food was solid across the board. If you enjoy making your own spring rolls, you'll love the grilled pork skewers. The pork is super tender and has such a incredible flavor profile of lemongrass, garlic, fish sauce, and more. Rolled up with the woven vermicelli noodles and fried wonton crisps in a rice paper, you get a wonderful combination of texture in a single bite. The other crowd favorite of the night was the bánh xèo -- the stuffed rice crepe. The bánh xèo here is by far the best one that I've ever had, even surpassing ones I had in Vietnam. The outside was insanely crispy and and was surprisingly not particularly oily, while the inside was loaded with fillings. Two other dishes that were well received by the group was the betel leaf wrapped grilled beef and the sugar cane shrimp. The beef had a very similar flavor profile as the pork, but the texture was a lot more lean. The shrimp had a bouncy, yet firm texture to it, and was very well-seasoned. My only qualm with the shrimp dish is that the sugarcane did not actually have any sweetness to it. There's fish sauce on the table along with a shrimp paste sauce, but to be honest, every dish we had was so flavorful on its own, the sauces aren't even needed. The only dish that we ordered that fell short was the grilled river shrimp. The presentation of the shrimp is impressive and very photogenic, but the flavor was lacking and the cook was inconsistent. Some people had shrimp that was undercooked -- borderline raw, and on the other end of the spectrum, others had shrimp that was so overcooked, that it was very difficult to remove the shrimp from the shell without completely tearing the meat. That said, everything else we ordered was well-prepared, and very tasty. Service was good throughout the meal, and I would definitely come back again for a meal with a large group. 4.5 experience rounding up to a 5.
